Horrible hotel experience. The shampoo, conditioner and bath wash dispensers were all EMPTY. I found out when I was showering. I went to call the front desk only to find out our hotel phone had no plug. I had to walk down to the front desk for supplies. There was a moldy coffee pod in the machine and under the bed hadn't been vacuumed in months. Gross! Key cards don't work on side doors so staff props them open with rocks. Are room didn't feel secure. Housekeepers were wearing daisy dukes with their tees tied up expososing their whole mid-section. Completely unprofessional. I actually am a professional Airbnb cleaner and our staff could never dress like that. Do better Best Western. read more

You would think that after two years of terrible reviews, the owner(s) would do something about the staff. This has been my worst experience with Best Western and I stay at them regularly for business. I have a shower at home so when I travel, I ONLY book hotels with hot tubs and a bathtub in the room. This BW had neither or at least could not accommodate. As disappointing as that was, no big deal. However, I did arrive a day early to finish my work in the business center like I have many times before. To my disappointment, the only computer they had was non-operational. The memory was so full it could not even open a web browser. I tried for an hour to make it work. At this point my dismay was obvious, and rather than suggest an alternative computer or a place that I could finish my work. The manager offered to cancel my reservation without charge but I declined. Things continued to go downhill from there... from foreign hairs in my shower to old coffee left in the machine. The pool being filthy with bugs inside and out of it. My friend skimmed the entire pool before we used it. I also got the eye roll when I asked for pool towels, and when I asked if they wanted me to leave them in my room or prefer the bin near the pool, the man at the front desk said they were not even aware there was a towel bin in the pool area. While we were swimming, a woman kept watching us from her window with distaste and talking to herself or on the phone. After swimming, that same woman banged on our floor (her ceiling) then called the front desk for a noise complaint when my nephew (who is five) fell off the bed and started crying. When they left, I went to the front desk to talk about it and the same guy refused to get up from his chair. He asked if I was checking in even though we had multiple conversations and when I said no, he asked what I needed.. while staying seated behind the wall. I told him I came to talk to him but never mind and went back to my room. He was too lazy to even stand at the desk to greet customers, let alone smile or have any personability. So far all the staff I have spoken to or observed are either ignorant or incompetent. There is of course more but this review too long already. The hotel is new so the decore and furniture is still nice but it's just not enough to come back. If you're staying in Colfax, save yourself the disappointment and go to Best Western in Auburn. To the owner(s), EVALUATE YOUR STAFF AND HIRE PEOPLE WITH PERSONALITY AND EXPERIENCE or your business will continue to disappoint and destroy the brand. You may be independently owned but you should still uphold the BW standards. **Update** It's been three days now. I have yet to receive any room service, not even fresh towels, and the trash cans are full. The power has also been off for a couple hours now and the back up generator is not working. My room is pitch back. On a brighter note, I finally met a member of staff that was good at their job and handled a tough situation with courtesy and professionalism. Savannah is delightful, knowledgeable, and experienced. They need to hire more like her. read more

I live very close to this hotel and went in there this evening on the way back from my walk to ask a question at the front desk. I was surprised to find no-one at the front desk. There was no sign stating, "Will be right back," or anything. There was a service bell, which I rang several times to no avail. A man who was staying there grabbed a snack nearby and waited at the front desk to pay for it -- but he finally gave up after waiting several minutes and said that he would pay for it tomorrow. I told him that I had never experienced anything like this, and he said neither did he. After what seemed to be an eternity, I called the hotel from my cell phone, and the front-desk person finally emerged and said she was in the bathroom. I told her that this was unacceptable, and she said that she was the only one there. I told her that they needed more help. I left in disgust and vowed to never stay there. Anyone off the streets could just walk right into that hotel, undetected, and wreak havoc -- and this woman wouldn't have known anything about it. Unbelievable and irresponsible! read more

I feel bad for writing this review, but this was possibly one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at. The lady at the front desk was so, so nice and helpful - none of this was her fault by any means, but we were appalled at how bad our experience was. When we first checked in, we were given a room and went up to put our things there. The bathroom was disgusting and hadn't been cleaned at all. There was human waste in the toilet and splattered all over the toilet seat. It was so disgusting that we went down and asked for a new room. The lady at the front desk was super nice and understanding and gave us another room, which this time had been cleaned and had the cleaner in the toilet still. As appreciative as we are, the experience was off-putting and made us wonder what else hadn't been cleaned that we couldn't see with the naked eye? The new room was ok I guess, but there were carpet beetles along the wall, large dust bunnies behind the bed and what looked like crumbs along the edge of the box spring mattress. The rooms are "cleaned", but not throughly. We felt like it was just generally a dirty place to stay. Sad to say, we wish we had stayed elsewhere because even in a new room, it was still not completely clean. Additionally, the walls are paper thin. You can hear everything - people stomping around, slamming doors, talking, coughing and hacking. Bring earplugs or noise cancelling earphones. My best advice is to drive a little farther and stay in Nevada City, Grass Valley or Auburn. We are never staying here again. read more

I've stayed there twice and it's not very good. The first time we were attacked by bees at the pool and had to go buy spray to rectify the situation as that's the main reason we stay there. 2nd time not many bees but cock roaches in the pool and parking lot so they're obviously everywhere else. It was the 3rd and 4th of July. Nice celebration on the 3rd in the small town which is why we stay even though we only live 20 minutes away. Booked an extra night just to relax and nap but couldn't nap because there was construction happening in the room above us! Why didn't they give the guy 4th of July off? When I mentioned it and asked for another room, they were like "he's only working another hour and a half, you're not going to take another nap before then, right?". Apparently not. The vending machine took our money and gave us nothing, front desk said they have nothing to do with it but they had other stuff for sale. The breakfast was OK but eggs undercooked. I appreciated that hard work from the breakfast and cleaning staff. The front desk guy came out to the pool area 15 minutes after breakfast ended pretending to look for cleaning (they didn't clean the pool area the whole weekend) and I mentioned the cock roach in the pool, he ignored me and chastised the lady that had just worked really hard for hours making breakfast for everyone for taking a break. He also had his young son, maybe 2, on site while he worked, so I'm guessing he might be an owner. Bottom line is, whoever owns this place doesn't seem to give a crap about cleanliness or customer service and treats their employees like crap. That was my take away. We have stayed at this hotel several times. We like to come here for the July 3rd Colfax fireworks. Last year July 2024, we was disappointed in the room as this hotel isn't that old and things were dirty. This year July 2025, we decided to try the hotel again. Such a difference! It's back to being clean! We were in room 316. Bathroom clean, nothing out of place. Ac worked great! The fireworks are visible from the parking lot. Such a good show, and the hotel is clean again. My husband and I have stayed here about 6 times previously. This time we had requested an accessible room which was confirmed with the online reservation. Upon checking in the gentleman said we were assigned a regular room. We showed him o our phone had a confirmation for an accessible room. He said it didn't show on his computer but he would honor on request. Oh how kind of you. There were several problems with the room: Air conditioning unit rattled the whole time we were in the room Bath room faucet was not secured, bar of soap under the handicap shower seat, end covers on the shower hand rail we not connected Bed side reading light did not work, not able to change time on clock on nightstand Loud sound when ever someone left or entered their room, no cushion when closing the door. I've stayed here two times prior to last night without issue. The hotel is newer, so the rooms are nice and the beds are comfortable. Unfortunately yesterday was not the most pleasant stay. Upon checking in I went to use the restroom to find a dirty toilet, hair in the sink and in the shower there was multiple hairs and conditioner on the floor that showed it hadn't been wiped down. I'm not one to complain often so I figured I'd wipe it down myself with Clorox wipes that I keep in my suitcase because I travel often. I went and sat on the bed and I found a dirty TOENAIL. I called the front desk and told him the room was dirty and he asked for clarification before putting me in a room on another floor. The second room was better than the first but still dirty. There were crumbs on the table, the linens on the bed were wrinkled and dirty which was further proven by a dark hair underneath the covers (I have a blonde balayage) and once again the toilet and shower hadn't been wiped down. In the hallway on the floor appeared to be someone's potato that had possibly fallen off of their plate. Needless to say I'll be staying in Auburn moving forward and just back tracking for work. I just hope I don't get bed bugs from this dirty place. read more

The hotel is about two years old and is well kept by a friendly and helpful staff. The rates were pretty good and the rooms were nice. The complimentary breakfast was fine but you want something better, there are a few places within walking distance from the hotel. read more

Recently had family visit from Australia. Happy to have Best Western in Colfax. Reception area was clean and welcoming. However the pool was dirty, with debris floating on it. Surrounding area was covered in cigarette butts. Our daughter asked for more towels. Given 2 and when she asked for one more because there were 3 of them was met with eye roll from staff member. When more toilet rolls were requested they were told "Sorry we are out of toilet rolls" Really!! Breakfast - no coffee, no milk - every day. They were probably late down on their first day, but the rest of their stay they were down early and in plenty of time to get at least a cup of coffee. We stayed at the Best Western in Colfax recently, and while it's not the fanciest place, it was definitely worth the price. The real standout, though, was a staff member named Taylor. He was by far the best part of our stay--so friendly and helpful! Taylor made sure we had everything we needed and really went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. Like any budget hotel, there were a couple of minor issues, but with someone like Taylor around, it didn't matter. He made the stay feel so much better. Thanks, Taylor! We stay here about once a month for business trip. Each time it gets worse, the rooms are half cleaned ( hair in the shower, tooth paste in the sink, etc. This time there was quite few ppl sleeping in there cars in the parking lot And lots of suspicious activity on the north side of building. We alerted the front desk and she told us that they have been having people removed pretty frequentl. if you want a quiet, clean and relaxing place this is not it anymore. read more

Terrible! We stayed 3 nights & did not get any sleep the 1st 2 nights. An employee decided to party in the room next to us all night (loud music). The next day he played loud music & loud preaching all day. I asked him to turn it down. He was rude & disrespectful. The next night he or someone else left a very loud TV on so no sleep again.
