The Dutch Flat Hotel is truly a hidden gem! Tucked deep into the quaint town of Dutch Flat, CA, lies this homey and welcoming inn. We stayed in the Dentist Quarters Cabin which was a delight! It's a compact house complete with a picket-fenced yard and rockers on the front porch. The inside is a collection of antiques and modern amenities so carefully curated it could be featured in a magazine! We dined at the restaurant where we ate top notch food while sitting in front of a wood burning fire. We stopped by Dutch Flat Hotel with a group of eight and had a really enjoyable meal overall. The ordering process was simple. Everyone ordered at the counter, and the staff brought the food out to our table. The service was friendly, and the food arrived quickly, especially considering the size of our group. I ordered the Prospector's Burger and added bacon. The burger itself was excellent. It was juicy, flavorful, and easily the standout item of the meal. If I'm being honest, I probably wouldn't pay extra for the bacon again because it didn't add much to the overall burger, but the burger itself was absolutely worth ordering. I also tried the pesto chicken sandwich. The flavor was good, and the pesto was tasty, but it could have used a little more chicken and filling overall. The bread was fresh, and it was still an enjoyable sandwich.The fries were a bit overcooked for my taste and ended up being a little too crispy. One person in our group ordered the clam chowder special and unfortunately found it so salty that it was difficult to eat. Even with those few critiques, we had a good experience. The burger was excellent, the atmosphere was relaxed, the beer selection was solid, and the staff was friendly. We'd definitely stop in again if we were passing through Dutch Flat. read more

Informational only - we stopped specifically to have lunch on a Monday as "lunch and dinner Friday-Monday" are advertised online AND on the sign outside the hotel. Turns out the restaurant doesn't open until 4pm as we found out from some other visitors. So, no idea if the food is good or not but they should correct the signage. read more

This was a nightmare stay. This review is for the hotel and not the restaurant. I tried the food at the restaurant and it was pretty good although it did take awhile to come out because it got packed. For the hotel, it's advertised as having breakfast included, but there is no breakfast half the week when the *restaurant is closed Tues-Thurs*. I checked in on a Monday when the restaurant was open, and check in was at the cashier. I thought this odd but I didn't think too much about it at the time. This turned out to be a huge issue. When I tried to come back for my second night stay, on a tuesday, the restaurant isnt open. That means the restaurant is locked. All exterior doors are locked, your room code does not work on those doors. So how do you get in? I called the "front desk" and I could hear the telephone ringing inside the building/restaurant. When I left in the morning I had the same question of how to lock the doors behind me, but I put in my room code and heard the doors lock after I unlocked it from the inside. I should have realized then how odd it was that no one was in the building in the morning, but I just thought I had left earlier than anyone else had gotten up. I overlooked the hairs i found in the bed and just brushed it off and went to sleep the first night. But it did make me question if the sheets had even been changed. I overlooked the plume of dust that billowed out when I sat on a chair outside. I mean if they weren't to be used, put a sign up. I even overlooked the false promise of a hot breakfast, but getting locked out of my room after a long day was the final straw. I had to find lodging elsewhere for the second night and will be asking for a refund for my second night's stay. The staff I interacted with during my first night was very sweet and helpful, but what use is a sweet staff if they aren't present? I didn't didn't realize there is no one that stays the night manning the hotel like you would expect at a normal hotel. With this being a "historic" hotel, what this equates to is that its creepy. I will not be re-booking in the future. read more

What went well? Everything. Public service notice; they are open Friday through Sunday only. We were there on a Thursday and we walked in and they said oh we're sorry we're closed. We turned to leave. I said oh we came up here specifically for my husband's birthday from Sacramento. The chef came running out and said" I'll make you lunch for your birthday, what do you want? The whole visit was like this. From Winston, the young man inside to everybody else it was such an amazing experience. I highly recommend the burger. The fries are so incredible. There is food group unto themselves. My husband loved his burrito (he added ground chicken). Well, it's not exactly around the corner, it more than makes up for the drive. Our fabulous server Laura Lee recommended the seared wild-caught ahi on a bed of arugula with a soy-ginger vinaigrette, and she was spot on...the dish was beyond delicious. The garlic fries were the best we've ever tasted...crispy, not greasy and with the perfect amount of garlic. The Gold Diggers Pan Potstickers, as always, were amazing. The hotel is very quaint and has the feel of the old west. As soon as you enter you feel like you back in the gold mining days. The people are unbelievably friendly and the food was amazing. We had the Burger and it was the most delicious I've had - for real. The fries were crunch on the outside and soft in the middle. Not sure how they do it but came and try it for yourself. Stopped by the bar after the white elephant rummage sale. It was a hot day, but the drinks were cold and the atmosphere was lively! The bar/restaurant area is so beautiful and historic. Took a ride from Foresthill Ca to have lunch at this unique hotel and restaurant. The town is like stepping back in time. Such a cool experience. The food was great!! The staff amazing! The wine served is top shelf. A good selection of Cabernet which were described and actually let us try a sip or two of 3 different bottles. Very knowledgeable of each winery and we really enjoyed our choice. The staff were so friendly and fun We absolutely loved our experience here. Took a short roadtrip with Thom to Dutch Flat yesterday. Went up for the annual Rummage Sale. Weve been hearing good things about the Dutch Flat Hotel with new owners who have brought the bar back to life. Great ambience in this 1852 hotel saloon. The Dutch Flat hotel now has a restaurant. A short drive off the freeway brings you to the Gold Rush era downtown. Upon entering the restaurant you are greeted by the hostess/waitress/bartender. In spite of her numerous responsibilities, she provides the most thoughtful and attentive service. The food is outstanding. My friend and I enjoyed soup for lunch. Clam chowder for her and cream of mushroom for me. We shared the German pretzel as well. Our meal was brought to the table by the chef who we were told also developed the menu (a wonderful variety suitable for lunch and dinner). I can't wait to return and try something else from the menu as well as the bar which I saw has a nice selection of wines and local beers on tap. Awesome experience, great ambiance, delicious hot food! The pretzel is huge, and perfectly paired with the yummy sauce. We couldn't decide what to order, so we ordered a little of everything, lol. We got the pretzel, the wings, the hamburger, the flatbread, and there could've been one other thing. Drinks were excellent too. Everyone was so kind and accommodating. For my 75th birthday we stayed at this hotel. Very rustic with lots of charm. Unfortunately, the main hotel was booked for the weekend the $119/night rooms were gone which forced to book a cottage and they are expensive!!! We stayed one night in the "Love Shack" cottage - the name made my wife laugh a bit. The cottage was recently renovated, nice and cozy, but for $300/night not, IMO, worth the price. The room was ok but the surrounding neighborhood was iffy, some adjacent neighbors looked to be junk collectors. The bathroom window didn't have a curtain and anyone could look in which made my wife a bit concerned. So we took a towel and covered the window - tacky! Speaking of the bathroom I was called to duty by the wife to kill a spider which looked to me to be a black widow hanging in the corner of the widow sill waiting for dinner herself. Also, a few cobwebs hanging from the light fixtures in the main room. The proprietor was very friendly and helpful. If we stay again, which is doubtful, it will be the $119/night rooms only. read more

The hotel was rented out for a group of us to hunt ghosts by Ted Moore a Paranormal expert. Sadly, I didn't witness any strange occurrences but we had a blast and the hotel is beautifully restored with a full professional kitchen just waiting to book your wedding or family reunion as 8 rooms to rent! Well stop by as there's a cute town waiting to be explored and the Monte Verde Inn says to have great food! Cons: beds were horrible as all mattresses in all rooms sagged. Super happy that she made this mistake because wow the food was fantastic!! So many delicious sounding choices it was hard to decide and now I want to go back to try more. The atmosphere, the service, the quality, they even have gluten-free options (although not a gluten free dedicated kitchen). In every way this was a positive experience. She, our Seller was so happy to have this gathering of people to celebrate her change in life moving forward . It's a little bit off the beaten path but well worth the drive. The hotel I didn't have a chance to check out but the grounds look amazing and I would imagine it's a destination in and of itself. Wow! We have never been to the little town of Dutch Flat. We stopped to take a look and saw Dutch Flat Hotel served food. We decided to give it a go. We were welcomed with a big smile and lots of warmth. Ordered the only burger, which was spectacular, the fries it came with were beyond good. We found out they had just opened the day we stopped in. We were so impressed. I would encourage anyone coming down from the Reno area or up the hill on 80 to give this gem a try. You will not be disappointed. read more

Had a great stay at the Dutch Flat Hotel with Allison. We weren't sure what to expect ... it looked like this spooky old hotel that was definitely haunted. We're always up for an adventure! This place was so cosy, warm, inviting, and although NOT haunted, there was a Lestat on premises. Again, sadly NOT a vampire, but the sweetest old pup that mostly wagged his tail from his couch and gave you all the attention at breakfast time. Speaking of breakfast, delicious both mornings. Allison made specially requested pancakes for our kiddos. Great hosts all around and in every way. The rooms were very cosy and old, with wood creaking floors and Victorian era decor. Each had space heaters that kept the place warm in winter. Don't expect a typical hotel with anonymity here, but it is 100% worth a stay. Our kids loved it, we loved it. Spent a long weekend with my wife's family at this quaint, historical site. It was a wonderful experience. I love my in laws and we had a great time visiting and catching up at this incredible property. The guy, Alex, that takes care of day-to-day operations is great. He is so personable and friendly that we had him join us for most of our meals. We had the entire property booked so we had a home away from home. There is a little market right across the street run by a gentleman named Abe. He is very nice and carries all the stuff you might need. This saves you a trip to Colfax which is about 12 miles one way. I highly recommend this property if you are looking for a spot to relax and take it easy. read more

I booked this place by accident through AirBnb (I wouldn't recommend doing that ) and it turned out it was meant to be. I was very nervous traveling with a two year old but it turned out to be exactly the getaway our family needed. Allison and Joe were welcoming, fun, and accommodating. They are such gems, they make everyone feel comfortable and it feels like you're hanging out with family. My daughter was in love with them as well as the play area, Dutch the kitty and Lestat the puppy. There is a kitchen you can keep food in (handy if you have kids). I definitely hope to come back. This hotel is so charming. I have to say that the best part is Alison and Joe! They are incredible hosts! We went up for mine and my daughters birthdays last weekend and we already booked to come back next weekend! Book now, you will not be disappointed! We did not even realize until we were there that it is a B&B. The weekend breakfast was amazing! Alison can throw down in the kitchen! The other guests were also so much fun to visit with! My now none year old had a great time in the game room and playing in front of the gorgeous fireplace in the lobby. The lobby is set up like a family room. I also enjoyed that there are no TVs. We played games, went on walks and even met some of the locals! We drove 20 minutes and found a great place to go sledding! This will be our regular weekend getaway spot! read more

Such a memorable stay for all the best reasons. The hotel has such a charm & warm vibe to it. I didn't get to meet Allison (she was out), but I was greeted by her stand-in: Audrey, who was very kind and welcoming! She took me on a brief tour of the hotel & explained some of the hotel's history in addition to explaining what we could interact with. The piano, billiards table (until 10pm courtesy hours), & kitchen were free to use if we wanted to cook something. The fireplace was also constantly on (Mark chopped new firewood during the day out back!) Mark also prepared coffee & breakfast for my partner and I, which was so sweet because we didn't even inquire about breakfast- we were surprised with it. The owner of the hotel also has a rescue pitbull who is such a sweet dog (I'm a dog person haha). He was friendly, never barked, & rarely moved from spot to spot- he laid down for long periods of time. I wouldn't worry if you're afraid of big dogs because he won't follow or bother you, he's very independent, but he's open to you approaching him & petting him if you'd like! Audrey and Mark were so down to earth that my partner and I were almost in disbelief that we found a hotel with hosts so warm and welcoming. The hotel is beautiful & it was interesting to explore the various amenities/decor inside, but I really think the hosts make the whole experience unforgettable. We had a wonderful, unexpected stay at The Dutch Flat Hotel when we were trying to get to Reno from the Bay Area and we got turned around on 80 due to an accident. A quick Google search led me to this adorable and quaint hotel. Wendy helped me book a room for my family of three with a queen bed for my husband and myself and a full for our adult son. The Puccini room was perfect for the three of us, our luggage and all our Christmas presents! We arrived shortly after heading back on 80W and were invited to relax in the lobby while Lee cleaned our room. Lee brought me tea and went to work while we enjoyed the comfortable lobby and admired the holiday decorations. After he finished and we moved into our room for the night, we then headed to dinner at the Monte Vista Inn, highly recommended by Lee. He then set the fire place for us so we were able to enjoy time by the fire after our delicious dinner. We had a restful night sleep and were able to hit the road early in our second attempt to make it to Reno for Christmas. We are so grateful to Wendy and Lee for all of their hospitality that made this bump in the road an enjoyable experience for our family! read more

We originally came to celebrate Valentine's Day and Presidents' Day weekend because it was hard for us to find affordable lodging in Truckee. This place far exceeded our expectations. The owners are incredibly friendly. We had a tasty breakfast each day: the biscuits and gravy and quiches were delicious. And the best part was just how dog friendly it was. We have a cute schnauzer mix and it was really an inviting place for him. Would recommend to anyone, and are planning to come back for another ski trip soon! read more
