This is definitely not the most modern or luxurious place, but for a motel in the city center at an affordable price, it's actually quite good. The room was very spacious, although it could use a bit more natural light. One thing that pleasantly surprised me was how clean everything was. The room had no unpleasant odors, which is always a big plus. The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly, professional, and made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. Overall, I had a good stay. The only downside is that many things in the room feel outdated, including the air conditioner, carpet, and bathroom door. Some renovations and updates to at least a portion of the rooms would make a noticeable difference. Still, considering the price and location, this motel offers good value for money. read more

So, this Motel was the first of 3 establishments we stayed at during our trek up the PCH. The first thing I noticed when we arrived was the outstanding dining area for breakfast. The other only dining location that was better than this one was a hotel we stayed at in Dubai. My wife had requested a 2nd floor unit because we wanted a kitchenette but initially they put us in a ground level unit. The gentleman at the check in desk was more than happy to give us a 2nd floor unit with a kitchenette since it was there mistake. The room was very spacious and the kitchenette was awesome. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy as described in other reviews but we had no issues at all. This establishment is near restaurants, shopping, and grocery stores so you can pretty much get anything you need. I was also very impressed with the Ice Machine, you have to actually use your key card in the machine to get Ice. There is a CVS across the street and please be advised there are railroad tracks about 100 yards from the motel. First of all this is a motel, not hotel. This was not mentioned anywhere on their site. That means that you will have people yelling from their rooms into the parking lot at all times of the night. Rooms have an a/c window unit, meaning that the bed by the a/c will be freezing, but the other bed will be too warm. The rooms are SMALL. Breakfast was from 6 to 9am only. Every time any of the room's a/c units turned on, it was loud enough to wake you. The door had a gap when fully closed, which didn't help any noise cancelation. The new paint was very poorly done and the bathrooms are not cleaned. The vent in the restroom was extremely dirty. There is no security so people will be fighting and yelling until 2am and then again at 6am with no one to tell them anything. Kids were running through the hallway and again, nothing was done. Horrible hotel and location in a terrible part of town. Very unsafe and all rooms are out in the open since the rooms are not in an enclosed building. You park right in front of the room's door. I arrived very tired from a 4 hour drive, two beds, one didn't have the top sheet on one bed, I put my stuff down and immediately walked over three rooms down to inform the housekeeper. She walked over with me and said she'd go get me one. She came back with another housekeeper and she asked if "Did you turn the covers?" Excuse me??? I said look I'm just letting you know I need one I literally allowed you in the room I have my son here and my stuff halfway the door. She brought me one. I stayed two night. She asked the following day if I needed anything else I said no she had towels blankets etc in a bin. Turns out when I checked out they charged me for two sheets and a TOWEL??? I was livid.... Baffled, I can't explain the frustration. I have never stole in my life I was with my son MILITARY!!!! They were supposed to call corporate and call me back his name is Noon. The reception was not the nicest trying to make it seem like she was only giving me the total for the room I questioned separate charges I had like 4..... she's said things were "missing". BAD EXPERIENCE SINCE WE GOT THERE UNTIL NOW.... No one has called me back. I will file a police report or do something. This might happen to people and they don't check their bank accounts. I only checked because I had to Zelle someone money. I did tell Christine your housekeeper probably stole it and blaming me because I didn't take it when she offered it. What a shame. I stayed here for work while playing in the orchestra in a production of The Nutcracker. My room was clean and had all the amenities including a fridge and microwave. The included breakfast had a great variety including bacon, eggs, juice, fruit, bread, and pastries. The pool area was very nice. The staff was helpful in answering questions and was available 24/7. First off they don't tell you when you book your room that there's also another $100 fee upon arrival and when we arrived the parking lot was completely empty and as people showed up they stuck them all in the same corner. Next don't get a non smoking room by the smoking rooms because you will be charged for smoking in your room. I talked with management and all they could say is the room service said it smelled like smoke and that is how they decide who and who not to charge a $200-$500 fee. Ridiculous. Check-in was quick and easy. My husband and I were on the 1st floor. If I stayed again I would ask for the 2nd floor as the 1st was a a bit noisy. The room was very clean and well cared for. All linens were fresh and in very good condition. For a one night stay, this was a good choice. read more

I had arranged an "early check in time" of 1pm (as opposed to 3pm) via the Best Western email I received "Pre-Register Now for Your Arrival." When I arrived at 1pm to early check in, I encountered an employee (possibly the manager) who not only was unhelpful but was also hostile. He kept insisting that check in time is 3pm, and I informed him that I had arranged online to early check in at 1pm. He informed me that I needed to call Best Western to confirm that early check in time - HOWEVER, the website never informed me that I had to call to confirm an early check in. He was rude, condescending, and kept insisting that he was "not aware" of the early check in time and that check-in time was 3pm As a paying customer, I did NOT appreciate his attitude and felt that I was definitely not valued as a paying customer, at all. Eh. This place definitely wasn't what I thought it would be, I guess pictures can be deceiving and I just had higher expectations. Pros: -free breakfast has a bunch of variety and has fruit loops and really good cookies along with peanut butter packets and even fresh pancakes. -large parking lot Cons: -we got a NO smoking room and upon entering we were hit with an intense smoke odor. It was very strong and unacceptable. Not to mention they even had ash trays all over the room! -bed kept creaking with every move -the sheets did not smell clean and were crinkly - the "exercise room" is a joke. There's a treadmill, elliptical and a handful of weights. Super tiny and in the middle of the parking lot. -rust stains and dirty looking tub -scraggly towels and honestly not enough of them The people at the front desk were decent enough but honestly it wasn't all that. Not a kids-friendly hotel. Watch out if you are with kids. We had 4 families travel to Oxnard in June and booked this hotel online. When we checked in, the front desk staff told us to take the kids out of the lobby because they weren't able to hear the phone. It's a public parking outside and there was not a chair or bench for people to rest. The cars constantly came in and out that seemed very dangerous. We had to keep the kids stand in front of the lobby and told them not to move. Right after getting into the room, we received a phone call from front desk to warn us no kids running in the hall way (it's so wired to get that call because our kids didn't even stay in the hall way for long). It's a very bad impression for us. If you are traveling with kids or big family, stay away from this property. read more

We stayed here for a great price compared to other hotels during May. It was during the strawberry festival and CSU graduation weekend. The staff was very helpful and kind. The included breakfast is awesome! It's a full hot breakfast with eggs, bacon and pancakes along with the continental normal stuff. I have it 4/5 stars only because the key kept getting demagnetized and I was constantly at the front desk to get it re programmed. I had accidentally made a new reservation when I meant to extend my reservation, when I called the lobby to fix the problem I was told my reservation was cancelled and nobody informed me!! My call was forwarded to "Noon" and when I asked what was the reason they canceled my reservation he completely refused to give me a reason!! The reviews on hotels.com looked good, so we booked a night here. I'll start by saying the staff was amazing! Very friendly and helpful. However the "Inn" is really an old motel. The rooms were clean, but definitely need updating. The sheets felt like sandpaper. The free breakfast was inedible, the eggs were watery and the bacon was so gross I had to spit it out. There were people yelling and partying at midnight. When I called the front desk, they dealt with it immediately and effectively. So kudos to the staff! So in conclusion, staff was great, but would not stay here again. read more

Usually book with best western for their above average accommodations for a decent price. This location was mediocre to say the least. It seemed like a cop out to not have a cot available due to Covid. Just like anything else. Wipe it down after use. We are paying for it. So traveling with 2 adults and 3 kids. One of us had to sleep on the floor. All other best westerns are serving breakfast of some sort during Covid. I've recently stayed at a best western in San Diego and they had an assortment of jimmy dean options, breakfast bars, and juice available. This place is in a run down location, and I feel they cut the breakfast and use of cots just to be as cheap as possible. Also the staff walking around the place gave us the stink eye the entire stay. HOW THE HELL IS THIS PLACE A BEST WESTERN?? I stay almost exclusively at BW whenever I travel. I expect a certain level of Quality from BW. Starting with check-in. I arrived early and 1230 is a very early check-in but when you have 20% occupancy it shouldn't be a huge problem, instead they tell me to come back in an Hour! NO BATHROOM IN THE LOBY, POOL OR WORKOUT AREA??? WTH, I just spent 5 hrs in Fire Traffic Jams and you Won't check me in and tell me the restaurant down the street has a restroom!!! The room was clean and seemed to be recently updated, EXCEPT...... The Bed and pillows Rated as the 2nd MOST UNCOMFORTABLE BED I have ever slept in...The first was Rocky Ground and a tree log for a pillow in the Army!! Breakfast was Suspect at Best. Watery eggs, uneatable bacon and very few choices. $50 security deposit?? I ask him what is this for?? He says incidentals, I look around and ask him what incidentals could I possibly have here, porn-channels, room service?? He finally says it's for stolen towels, broken room furniture etc!!! Well that's about All you need to know if your thinking about staying here!! There clientele seem to steal towels and break stuff!! BEWARE!!! THEIR ROOMS STINK AND ARE DINGY WHICH YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR HOURS AFTER YOU CHECK OUT!!!! I just realized that I never left my warning here on Yelp... it is on a few other hotel review sites. Wife and I drove down to Ontario from Sacramento to pick up her new car. We decided to take our time and cruise up the coast coming home (in two cars). We opted to stay with Best Western in Oxnard because at the time we exclusively used them and we just so happen to roll in around the time we were ready to call it a day. Check in at around 8pm and are in bed by about 9:30pm (we had been driving for over 10 hours). We wake up as early as we can to still get a free breakfast (which was marginal) and check out. I think this was around 6:30am. All is well and we are enjoying our day. We are in Santa Cruz (I believe) having lunch around 1:30pm when she gets a call on her cell phone from the Front Desk. They start saying that they are going to charge us an additional $350 for a "cleaning fee" because the room "smelled like smoke". NEITHER MY WIFE OR I SMOKE!!! PERIOD! I immediately explain the situation to the manager (related to the Independent franchise owner) who says that when his cleaning ladies went into the room at 1pm to clean, they thought that it smelled like cigarette smoke. Mind you the air conditioning units are all under the only window to the outside which is right next to the front door... It literally just pulls the air in through the wall from directly in front of your hotel room door. Which is also the main walkway. People throughout the complex simply step outside their front door to smoke as it is not allowed inside the rooms. I always sleep with the fan/AC on because I need the white noise to not wake up constantly. I am about 95% sure we would have left this on when we left at 6:30am I tell the manager that this is absurd and that they only thing I can think of is that someone in a room adjacent to us was smoking in front of their room. He then starts talking about charging my card in the past tense... I ask if they actually already charged my card that amount and he puts me on hold for about 5 minutes then returns to the line to say yes it was charged 15 minutes before he called me. So they knew I was checked out at 6:30am and then waited 6.5 hours (knowing we were driving a long distance home) to call us and tell us that they "smelled cigarette smoke". No ashes, no butts, nothing but a smell. Ultimately this was our mistake as it could have completely been avoided by checking on Trip Adviser prior to booking. A young woman also from Northern California/Southern Oregon had stayed there a week or two before us and had the EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE!! Same "smelled like smoke" story from the manager WAAAYYYY after she is checked out and on the road. For her though, the extra $350 that best western charged her left her without gas money to get home. Best Western corporate does absolutely NOTHING aside from contact the manager/owner of the hotel (who are related) and ask for their side. Not for a resolution but just to document it. Corporate will flat out tell you that they are all individually owned and operated and has no ability to provide a resolution on the individual hotel or the companies behalf. Is it a coincidence that this location has been taking their time "Updating" the rooms one by one? Finally, when I wrote my review on trip adviser, the manager had the audacity to respond and BLATANTLY LIE about calling the police coming to the hotel to verify that the room smelled like cigarette smoke and write a report. When I called the Oxnard PD about this the same day the manager responded to my review, they informed me that there is was never an officer that was ever at the hotel that day and that there is absolutely no police report. BEWARE OF THEIR SCAM... THEY ARE FRAUDULENTLY CHARGING PEOPLE FOR CLEANING FEES, LOST TOWELS/PILLOWS ECT. The worst hotel experience I have ever had! In my 18 years of a high school, club, collegiate and international coach, I have never had a team accused of stealing something. I took my team there for a tournament from out of town. We only stayed one night and when I checked out I was called by the manager named NOON that I was being charged an extra $125 for "missing pillows." I had 5 rooms and my girls moved the "missing pillows" to other rooms so they were more comfortable. The "missing pillows" were in the room next door and the housekeeper declined to look. I called the manager and a front desk clerk named Carlos was not only condescending but downright rude and said repeatedly that I was going to be charged. I asked him again to go check the rooms and they were able to find 1 pillow so I would be charged $100 instead of $125. I was not asked as to where the "missing pillows' were or anything to that matter. I was told I was going to be charged. They can do whatever they want when they have your credit card and since each Best Western is independently owned, there is no corporate office to file a complaint. Who steals pillows? So yes I complain about a lot of things but the one thing that I really am adamant about complaining about is people with disabilities I'm here at a hotel in Oxnard California who were willing to accommodate me for for a handicap room but they don't accommodate handicap smokers so here I am almost 6 in the morning and my disabled husband can't even get a bench or a chair to sit on outside until the pool opens at 8 a.m. so once again they're not really or the night shift clerk is not willing to accommodate an ad a person a person who is handicapped who just wants to sit outside and enjoy the weather the coolness of the outdoors and the let you know I am staying at the Best Western I thought they unlike a lot of hotel chains they would be more accommodating my bad read more

I've traveled a lot and stayed at many kinds of hotels, including Best Western. So, I wasn't expecting too much from this place given its age and location. First off, don't be fooled by its appearance on the outside. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Plus, there are huge flat-screen TVs in each room with free HBO; need I say more? Finally, the hotel is right across from a new CVS pharmacy, so it's convenient in that you don't have to drive everywhere. The beds were comfortable and came with lots of pillows, which I love. The mattresses were a little firm for my taste, but hey, everyone is different. The one negative was the cockroach we found in the coffee & tea basket, which wasn't too pleasant. As for location in Oxnard, it's about a 10 to 15 minute drive to the harbor. Next time, I think we might stay closer to the water, but this Best Western is not a bad choice for those looking to save some money. read more

OK it is a Best Western. I understand that I am not going to get luxury but I'd love consistency. I am not a big fan of chain anything. I like to explore the towns and and dine and purchase from locally own place but when on a budget and traveling with 14 teenagers, consistency from a chain is always good. The only consistency I found was the lumpy beds. Their continental breakfast was reduced down to hot coffee and packaged goods. The remote didn't work. The hair dryer didn't work and even though the rooms were suppose to be smoke free the halls reeked of cigarettes and we smelled pot. When we do this trip next year we will find a different location to stay at outside of LA. read more

If it wasn't for Todd I would never stay stay at this location again!!! I am a Diamond Select member, so I stay at Best Western quite a bit. If you have a policy that is the choice of the customer you should not make the choice for the customer without their knowledge. Then when the customer says the choice made for them is not their preferred choice, you say "sorry the decision was already made we can't go back or give you both". I am talking about the $1-2 gift bag in this example of customer service. To me the Hotel management/ownership is more concerned about saving a dollar or two (literally) than ensuring customer satisfaction. This place is GREAT. It is clean, cute, and has a very friendly staff. This is our third time staying here now and we always know what to expect. No surprises ;) Great pool as well, small workout area. Just enough to pump some lead if that's what ur lookin for. It's a good location too, central to main roads in the area. The bed was super big, super comfy, pillows a little on the soft side do if you're driving in, just bring a firmer pillow from home just in case. The room just "feels" comfortable, cozy, welcoming. Not outdated like most hotel chains these days. Cute palm tree lamps next to the bedsides, not something I'd expect. Nice touch. Love it, can't wait to come back read more
