Coming back to this hotel after years of trips here as a kid I was sad to say this trip was not as good as it could have been. The room was non smoking yet the room smelled of smoke. The staff seemed very unorganized when it came to checking in. With the key cards needing to be created you would think that the maintenance guy wouldn't take it with him. The breakfast room you will need a voucher. Years past it was included. The beds were comfortable and the staff was able to change the sheets quickly when I called after a spill occurred. Maid service was excellent. There is an ice machine that was helpful in filling our ice chest. I think next year we will find another hotel that has better customer service and prettier landscaping. I was very tired from a long trip, I tried using the side door as they have a sign, when I tried opening the door, it was locked, the lazy ugly fat women there and the stupid lanky moron saw me but didn't go to open the door, so I had to bang the side door. The stupid moron dude didn't respect me as I am 53 years of age and rebuked me saying not to bang on the door. About a week ago I booked a room with a king bed and I was a little hesitant due to the reviews that are on here but to my surprise it was very well cleaned and very spacious. Good breakfast in the morning and for $89 not bad at all. Seeing that every other hotel around here charges $150 a night. Words can't even describe what a complete and utter dump this places is. My girlfriend and I were planning a weekend getaway and what better place to choose then Channel Islands inn. The name sounds amazing!.. right?...Or so we thought. When we first pulled in, the place was so sketchy we thought our GPS directed us to the wrong place. Trash and abandoned shopping carts throughout the parking lot ,homeless people living between the buildings ,broken down cars with the windows busted out in the parking lot, fallen down parking lot lights laying in the trees etc. We decided to walk in and take a look around. We walked up to the front desk and there is nobody around. We ring the bell several times and no one came out. At this point we decided to walk around to see if we could find someone to help us. Finally, after around 15 minutes someone came to help us with all her kids right behind her. What?.. are you kidding me!.. Our check in was at 3 but we were told that our room wouldn't be ready until 4...at this point we decided that this place was way beyond sketchy and definitely didn't look clean or safe to stay!. Anyone thinking about staying here, do yourself a favor and don't waste your hard earned money on this establishment. This doesnt even deserve a star. Booked a suite room. Upon entering, there was a noticeable unpleasant odor reeking. Lights were not working. Front desk took forever to answer. Missing lamps & burnt bulbs. No towels in the bathroom. No cups in either desk, called front desk and requested for one, was told its in the kitchen and wont be available until 6am. Asked where to buy drinks or 24 hr convenience store, front desk recommended jack in the box. Went to front desk and found a fridge fully stacked with beverage. Extremely rude front desk. I do not understand why this place has such a low rating. Right from the start the lobby is a beautiful space and Vanessa at the front desk was very helpful and professional! Im giving this hotel a 1 star review based on custom service. We were told breakfast was served from 7am-10am but when we woke up the next day and asked where we could eat,she told us im sorry we stopped serving breakfast at 9am and we thought it was over at 10 Overall the room was ok,it has everything u need for a one night stay But to me they need to improve on customer service Also when we tried checking out before 12pm nobody was there at the front desk,i rang the bell 5 times and no response,i even said hello After a while the lady came back but i noticed she had a little girl with her,so i think she brought her daughter to work To me u shouldnt bring your children to your work environment Good hotel, but really u need to improve on your hospitality read more

Don't stay here! Not worth it at all! Rooms were dirty. Bathrooms were disgusting. Tub had hair and dirt in it. Looked like they only clean at eye level and nothing below. Room blankets had stains. Ac unit had a knob missing so we were stuck at the temperature it was at until a family member lent us a pair of pliers. Elevator hasn't been working for apparently 10 months.. And they charge $10 to take the breakfast plates to our elderly/handicap family members. Breakfast was gross. Potatoes seemed like they were reheated. Saturday it was only eggs, potatoes and waffles. At least in Sunday they added sausage.. In the past they had 2 waffle makers. They only had one now since the other broke. The one that was there... The timer didn't work so you had to time it to make sure yours didn't burn. Juice wasn't minute maid like it claimed to be. The pool was the same as last year... It didn't meet health codes so people weren't supposed to swim in it. They had a sign up in the beginning that looked like it was from the city but later on it was stake down.. I don't think the city would have someone come out on a Saturday to inspect it... Ice machine is a waste of space since it does not work. Service wasn't great at all. Asked for towels and was told we would get them in 15 minutes. 30 minutes late nothing. Called and said OK be there soon. My mom called for her room and an hour went by. Neither of us had towels. Called a third time and finally 20 mins later we got our towels. Abandoned cars are left there or at least they look like it because of all the cob webs and dirt and leaves on the cars. I am really disappointed at Booking.com for even having the Channel Island Inn included in their offerings. It took almost an hour to get checked into the hotel. There was a long line of people waiting to check in, and only one clerk, who had to go back and forth to check reservations, get printouts, and make keys; ridiculous! Then, we get to our rooms and all of the plugs are so worn out, our phone chargers slip out of the socket, the remotes to the TV's don't work, there are no ice buckets (I know there is a fridge, but ice buckets are nice too), there are coffee makers but, no coffee, the carpets smell, and the rooms look dingy. At this point, I don't even know if the ice maker works, since it has been over an hour now since the desk said they were going to send over an ice bucket; must still be checking people in. Pretty shady looking area. DON'T BOOK YOUR STAY HERE!!! NOTE: Never got an ice bucket. The towels felt like sandpaper, and you could see through them. What a dump! read more

We would stay here during drill weekend. Needless to say this building was definitely needing some major changes. The building and facilities are old and run down. The staff would get very defensive when you requested things or requesting room changes due to uncleanliness. If your looking for a cheap place to stay, I'd go somewhere else. There are better cheaper places down in Ventura or Camarillo. This location changed the name to spruce it up, they didn't change the facilities. read more

Had 3 rooms for a family reunion in the area. This was the host hotel. One room had broken air conditioning and broken ceiling fan, another room had brown water come out of the bathroom and vanity sinks, and the 3rd room had large black stains all over the carpet. No hand towels provided in any rooms - 2 of the rooms only had 1 bath towel and 1 washcloth. No manager available for complaints. Email sent one week ago and no response. Also, pool not working (apparently for more than 1 year) ice machine also does not work. Family reunion has used this as host hotel for years - but not anymore. I have pretty low standards for hotels. It's not my house, it's not my bed, I don't expect much. Yet somehow, Channel Islands Inn & Suites still managed to disappoint me. They failed to inform us that if we didn't check in by 9pm, they'd give our room away. We were running late for the wedding so none of us had time to stop and check in. When my friends tried to check in at 10pm, they were told the room they reserved was given away. They did offer another room with a king size bed and sofabed. Whatever, we need somewhere to rest our tired asses. Get to the room, sofabed doesn't work. *sighs* Whatever, I'll just sleep on the couch while my other 3 friends shared the king. Next morning, 8:20am, we call to get more towels for showers, "Sorry ma'am, we don't have anyone to deliver until after 9am". WTF?! So homegirl walks to the front office and there's a line. So my 2 friends that have already been there are in the King size bed and tell me to join them...(no no not weird like that) So I am attempting to fall asleep but have a hard time because this hotel likes to have their mini-bar refrigerators running as loud as possible!! YES!! Well I wake up bright and early to make sure we catch their "hot breakfast" thats what advertised on the sign....We all decided to get up and get ready. I am 3rd in the shower and find out that, oh yes there is only shampoo no conditioner for hair and its the smallest bottle of shampoo, I would say the size of my pinky finger! Yeah I am not kidding. Also while taking a shower, the lights keep flickering on and off because apparantly, the lights are controlled by the outside of the bathroom, so anytime they were turning off and on the lights I would get affected. So a very adventurous shower I was taking. So I get out of the shower and get ready and I go to dry my hair with their top-of-the-line hair dryer and it has no heat whatsoever...Yeah room not terrible but definitely not good The breakfast is probably the best part of this story. We get there and they have 3 cereals to pick from, and bread, eggs, sausage, and warm juices. They also have a waffle machine that was being run by a family of 20! I finally attempt to make a waffle and the damn thing sticks all over the waffle iron! I was very upset!! But I had some cereal and some eggs and it wasnt terrible but next time I might do a little research on hotels if I am ever staying up there again. read more

My friend and I (both young females) checked in on a Sunday night, we paid $80 for the room. Around 10:30pm we were resting, watching tv, and the room's telephone rang - once. Then about three minutes later, it rang again and we picked it up immediately, only to find a dead line. We called the front desk and asked if anyone had been calling our room from there, and they said no but they would check into the phone lines to see if anyone had (probably not an option given how old the motel was...they had VHS tapes that you could rent). We told them we were freaked out and we would appreciate them checking...never heard a call back. Other than the creepiness factor that scared us like we were in the beginning of a horror movie, the motel was ok...clean enough but not the best place to stay.. No internet either....unless you use the old computer they have near the front desk. read more

*This is the Ramada now, no longer the "Comfort Inn".* Icky, dirty, gross... Health code violations everywhere. BBB, eat your heart out# Cigarette butts, trash, and gum around the pool deck; Jacuzzi heater broken and pool unheated; dead spiders smashed on the walls; beer left in the fridge (positive or negative?), and we were moved to three different rooms since our card keys would not work in the first two. The website's pictures of the rooms were pretty accurate. The staff's friendliness with the buffet breakfast are the only things worthy of a star here. UPDATE: The manager Marina called me to sincerely apologize, she also asked for copies of the pictures (to send to corporate?) and promised me credit for another stay. She attributed the uncleanliness of the rooms to the upcoming renovations, said the dirty pool area was due to understaffing over the weekend (which I was told was common practice by the front desk clerk, Victor). Not sure how not washing your dirty sheets in between customers has anything to do with renovations though? I promised her I would update my review, then later decided to give another star for the sincere, punctual follow-up and hotel credit. read more

I would have preferred to sleep in my car rather than this motel. The front desk staff "misplaced" my ID card and one of the girls was supposed to mail it to me. It has been over a month since I was supposed to receive it, so I had to buy a replacement ID. Who knows if it was ever mailed in the first place. I spoke with Leslie, the manager, and strongly suggested a refund for the unprofessional conduct this motel demonstrated repeatedly. This motel decided it was not their problem and issued no refund. Also, everything the other reviewers say about the hygiene standards and functionality of the equipment in the room is true. Stay very far away from this dirty, shady motel. read more

Good luck not tripping over the beds trying to make it to the bathroom at night. Ants in the kitchen and everything is half done coffee maker with coffee but no creamer or sugars shampoo no conditioner and in a sweet to accommodate a larger group they give you two towels so you have to ask for more and we never got the extra pillow that we needed for the pull out bed. Oh the nice porch with broken chairs, spider webs and a loud obnoxious air conditioning unit accompanied by 7 a.m. tree trimming services! Upon arriving it looked rundown but we figured we'd give it a shot since we had nowhere else to go and it was non-refundable. When we entered our room, I noticed that the sofa was filthy and the sheets & pillow cases had stains. When looking for the room phone to call the lobby, there wasn't one available. So I called from my cell phone to let the girl know. She said she'd send up house keeping. House keeping arrived an hour later and provided new sheets and pillows. Now here's the cherry on the cake....come morning time, my husband decides to make coffee from the single coffee maker provided in the room. He opened it to pour water in and it was full of mold! This place deserves 4 stars simply because their breakfast buffet was pretty delicious! Keep in mind this is a really old hotel and the rooms are just mediocre and the beds aren't too comfy, but to me a good breakfast to wake up to makes up for it! For breakfast they had: make your own waffle (original and waffle flavors, scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, toast, orange juice, apple juice, coffee and cereal) what more could you have asked for! Plus you get pretty decent tv channels too, I was able to enjoy a few movies as I rested for the night. The place is also quiet which is nice when you need to relax from a long day of venturing around oxnard. I would definitely come here again just for the breakfast! read more

Stay far away from this hotel (which is no longer a Comfort Inn, now a Ramada)! We arrived at the hotel and it seemed nice enough, even if it was quite old. However, once we got to our room our opinions quickly changed. We opened the door to a blast of hot air and an overpowering smell of cat urine and mould. We turned on the air conditioner and opened the windows, in the hopes the smell would go away by the time we got back from dinner. They certainly did not. We went to the office and spoke to the staff (the staff were very apologetic and helpful) and they gave us two other rooms (they no longer had any three bed suites available). One of the rooms had the air conditioning running and didn't seem quite as bad, but the second was even worse than our original room! We received a refund from the staff, who were the only thing good about the experience we had. We didn't stay long enough to judge the breakfast (which is given a good review here) but I doubt it could have made up for the overpowering smells in the rooms. The rooms themselves could have been worse but also could have been a lot better. They were generally clean, but very tired. The bathroom was in need of new fixtures and the beds could use updated linens. The pool area and landscaping seemed nice, but the hotel itself would need to be gutted and redone to really be livable by most people's standards. We ended up staying at the Hilton Homewood Suites which was at least 30 years newer and much nicer. Shockingly, the Hilton cost less than the Ramada! read more

I've been here before, though this time on a Groupon thing, making it an even better value. You arrive to a friendly staff, manger's hosted (cocktail) happy hour with "heavy appetizers", usually enough for dinner - no charge. Last night it was meatball sandwiches; not gourmet, but O.K.. Nice rooms, bright, great location, clean, functional, free WiFi, flat screen LG TVs and a better breakfast than you ever get any where else at this price; not one of those carb-laden things you get from other folks advertizing a free breakfast. Older motel is surrounded by well-cared-for, colorful foliage. You wake up in the morning to the smell of fresh baked bread courtesy of the bakery next door. It could be worse!
