I've stayed here about a dozen times. You can talk to a real person on scene over the phone, they have nice staff and they're helpful. So many hotels have gone to a centralized desk in India or some crazy off site location and if you have to rearrange booking it's painful. These guys make my life easy. The hotel is a classic, but it's very nicely kept and things are redone regularly by appearances. The pool is a good spot to hang out, it's never packed or dirty and the gym is entirely adequate unless you're a pro bodybuilder. In today's automated world it's good to see some Hotels are sticking with the fundamentals in service. I've had nothing but pleasant stays over the past couple of years. Other hotels in the area, I cannot say the same. read more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AND INCREDIBLY UNPROFESSIONAL One of my primary reasons for booking this hotel was the beautiful pool prominently featured as an amenity. Had I been informed it would be closed for more than 2/3 of my stay, I would have NEVER checked in. The problems started immediately. I reserved and paid for 2 queen beds with a patio/balcony. At check-in, I specifically asked whether my patio room could be on the ground floor and was told yes and that I was already assigned one. I had significant luggage and my service dog with me and made multiple trips to a room a decent walk from the lobby, only to discover a single-bed room with NO patio. I hauled everything back and explained the mistake. Another employee initially said their reservation didn't show my room type. I pulled up my Priceline confirmation proving what I booked, at which point he told me this was something that "keeps happening." If this is a known issue, why aren't room types verified at check-in? After finally getting the correct room, I noticed someone pouring chemicals into the covered pool. Nobody had mentioned a closure and the posted pool information indicated it should be open, so I called the front desk. Only after I continued asking questions was I told the pool was undergoing maintenance and wouldn't reopen until Saturday around 9 a.m. This was the FIRST time anyone disclosed that the pool would be unavailable for the majority of my stay. I saw no notice when booking, through Priceline, on the hotel website, at check-in, or in the room. Had they disclosed this before checking me in, I simply would have stayed elsewhere. I immediately contacted Priceline. They contacted the hotel, but the hotel would not authorize a full refund despite a major advertised amenity, and a primary reason I chose this property, being unavailable for most of my reservation without prior disclosure. I packed up and left anyway. I had already paid approximately $35 for an Uber to the hotel and then had to pay for ANOTHER Uber, transport myself, my service dog and all my belongings to another property, AND pay for another hotel. The room itself was also hot and extremely humid. The AC would not go below 68°F and couldn't get the room below approximately 73°F while I was there. One of the pillows also had a visible hole on top. I documented everything. The pool needing maintenance isn't why this deserves one star. Things happen. The problem was the complete lack of communication and how the situation was handled. A room mistake can be fixed. A pool can require maintenance. But guests should be informed of major amenity closures BEFORE checking in, especially when that amenity is prominently advertised. This was actually a hotel I would have considered staying at again. Instead, I ultimately chose to pay for another hotel and additional transportation rather than remain here. After this experience, I would never return. Hotels are expensive. Spend your money somewhere that values your patronage and communicates honestly about what you're receiving. read more

But the room was nice, although they really focused on the kitchen, while letting the bathroom stay behind in 2005. Will not be back. We've stayed here multiple times over the last three years and always had a great experience. The staff and owners have always been responsive and accommodating. Nice clean pool and landscaping, Rooms are clean and comfortable. Just checked in to a newly renovated room and honestly couldn't be happier. New TV, carpets and beautifully equipped. I appreciate the history about Yakima they have posted around the property in the form of pictures with descriptions. Plus the fact that you see that many sports teams have stayed here over and over, suggesting that this place has left an endearing reputation to so many people. Stayed here for over a month and during my stay I noticed a few things that go on here. During busy nights expect there to be crowds all around with unsupervised kids. The courtyard is big enough to host as a small park with BBQ grills and an 8ft deep pool(no open containers). The sound echos well in the courtyard so please be mindful of other guests. It has a fitness center however during my entire stay one of the cardio machines was always out. The dumbbells only go up to 50lbs and the sanitizing wipes are dried out. When I told that to the front desk they were nice enough to acknowledge my concern but never addressed it. One of my party did experience some theft of his property and also brought that concern to the front desk which never got resolved. No police report, suggestions, investigations or mention there after. The staff can be very nice there especially Dave the maintenance guy. He was diligent to address some of our concerns and exceeded our expectations in the services he provided. He was probably the only one that was willing to go the extra mile. Breakfast was served every morning from 6-10 (scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, cereals, waffles, coffee and fruit drinks). In the evening you'll find cookies in the lobby with a coffee station along with Soup. This place wouldn't be my first choice but in all honesty most of the in town aren't so great in the first place. read more

The front desk staff person was friendly, and we were able to check in an hour early on a Wednesday. The property is older but well maintained and clean. Our room was on the second floor and had a queen bed, sofa, and desk. The bathroom was fairly small, with the sink inside (I prefer it outside), but the shower was good. Part of the floor in the room creaked a lot, so I wonder how noisy that is in the room below. Our room faced the courtyard and had a small balcony. The breakfast included the option to have eggs cooked to order, so we were able to have customized omelettes. Yum! read more

If your like me you will stay away, stay far away! This is just a run down old motor lodge with a lot of fixin up. Kind of like putting lipstick on a pig doesn't change what it is or how it smells. Front desk staff is surly and doesn't smile. Rooms are old and have an odor to them that is unpleasant. Beds are ok but nothing to redeem all the issues. Breakfast is rotten! Just stay away from it and go to a restaurant! They 'forgot' to make up my room one morning, see the picture of my room when I got back. I definitely will not be staying here again and probably not any best western in the future. There is a truck stop next door which you can hear the engines running all night. The interior looked very old and dated. The room was on small side and especially the tiny bathroom barely enough room for 1 person and be able to shut the door. One of the hotel personnel made rude comments saying you were not allowed to be in the entry lounge area due to COVID all the while he was not wearing any mask or PPE and then went on to say if you want to blame someone blame China. We stayed at the Best Western Ahtanum Inn this past weekend for the 4th of July holiday. It was a last minute decision to get out of town from Seattle. We typically stay at the Best Western Grapevine Inn in Sunnyside, as that is the best base for wine tasting throughout the Valley, but this time we had made plans with friends who live in Yakima, and decided it would be best to stay closer to town. At check-in, we asked if we could get a lower level room adjacent to the courtyard, as we were planning on using that area and the pool and wanted easy access (one of the main reasons we chose this hotel as opposed to a few others). Elizabeth was happy to oblige. It did have two Queens when we had booked one Queen, but it wasn't a problem. The rooms were clean and AC worked well. My only complaint was the size of the bathroom. It was VERY small. The Best Western Grapevine has bathrooms where the sink/counter area is much larger and the toilet/bath are located separately, and I much prefer that set up. The location of Ahtanum Inn is outside of the downtown area near the mall. It's just off the highway, though it wasn't noisy at all. They have a great outdoor pool and court yard area. Our first night, we had a BBQ set up and were enjoying some food and adult beverages and lost track of time. One of the maintenance guys came by to let us know that the sprinklers would be coming on in 15 minutes. I thought that was nice of him to give us the heads up so we weren't surprised and soaked! Overall, we enjoyed our stay. If you're coming here (or anywhere else in Yakima for that matter) and expecting Four Seasons style accommodations, then you'll need to re-evaluate your expectations! But for the price and location, it's good. read more

Amazing staff . Like the friendliest staff I have ever meet at any place of business! I felt like I was in a movie . They not only had their fresh coffee/ cookies out but they were also offering chili ! So random but so good . The hotel had a charm about it . The interior had old pictures placed around , dating back to as early as 1920. The pictures were of the town and the building of things throughout the town . The rooms were clean and comfortable . I have been staying here up to 9 years . Incredible breakfast incredible staff makes me feel comfortable checking in . 11/ 16 went to check in . I made reservations at 12:37 this afternoon for a particular room that was available . When I arrived at the hotel there was another guest wanting a room over a certain duration of time and I said I would vacate my room in order to accommodate the other guest . Apparently it didn't work out for the dates that you wanted . The room that I reserved earlier in the afternoon was apparently not available so they gave me a different room . If you're staying in yakima for a couple of days with kids and/or pets, this place is great. Clean, quiet, easy access to shopping and the freeway. Avoid the temptation to walk over to the outback. Lousy service, lousy food. The layout surrounds a huge outdoor courtyard with inward facing rooms. The courtyard has plenty of room for pets and a decent sized pool with a deep end. My one issue is that all the doors are very loud opening and closing. Woke the baby up several times. Oh, and did forget to mention: avoid the outback. Whelp, this will be my last stay at a Best Western. The staff were friendly but aside from that, this was a total waste of money. Dark and grimy. A bad remodel of an old hotel from yesteryear. It smelled horrible. The breakfast wasn't very good though again, the staff were very nice and kept things replenished. It's in a rundown part of town but that's our bad as we didn't do our research on that. We called ahead and asked for a dog room. We were quoted $140-ish but at checkout they added $20 for a pet fee . Why wouldn't that be included in the quoted price? They told me the fee isn't part of the quote because people request pet rooms without having a pet. Yeah... ok. "I'd like to request a filthy, first-floor room that faces the parking lot and smells like a dumpster!" After all the taxes and fees, our room was over $180. We chose not to stay at the Oxford to save some money but it turned out to be the same price- and it's in a better part of the city. Big regret on our part. Look elsewhere. Trust me. read more

We stayed one night when my daughter's soccer team played in Yakima. I've experienced better, cleaner hotels for the same money. The room was a non-smoking room, but it smelled like it used to be a smoking room. My daughter woke up in the morning with a bumpy rash behind her ear that we think came from the pillows (bedbugs?). The rash disappeared a couple hours after leaving the room. Our room had a double queen, but the bathroom was very small. One person at a time in the bathroom and you constantly had to maneuver yourself or the door around the toilet. Any hotel that keeps a coffeemaker, ground coffee packets, and mugs in the bathroom should really take a lesson on cross-contamination from the toilet just feet away. Gross! The breakfast was ok; barely above needed sustenance. From the self-service waffle maker, cereals, loosely cooked scrambled liquid eggs, pre-cooked sausage links, biscuits/gravy, probably the only think I liked was the coffee. I've stayed in the Yakima area before and this is the first and last time at this Best Western. Next time, I'm sticking to the Red Lion in Yakima, which is also conveniently located off the I-82 freeway. read more

I came from Seattle for the Red Wine and Chocolates special over the presidents day weekend. I had very little expectations of the place but my stay was terrific! Upon arrival I asked if I could receive a complimentary upgrade to a larger room. Sure enough, they switched me to a larger room with a couch and balcony view. There was a beautiful bag with a box of Chukar Cherry chocolates, bottle of wine and two glasses. The next day I asked if my check out could be pushed back and they offered to move it to noon instead of 11. I was very pleased! The staff was wonderful! I will stay here again! AAA++++ read more

Spent one evening here after booking this hotel through Priceline (where it was rated highly). While it's a typical motel, it had a lot of personal touches. From the actual coffee cups in the room to the little note blessing whatever brought us to the area, it felt like a nice, clean and safe place to stay the night. The staff was very friendly as well, breakfast was good and I loved that the mall was right next door. Only downside, the bathroom in our room was a bit small. I felt like I had to trip over the toilet just to properly shut the door and we didn't get a bottle of shampoo. Instead, it was in a dispenser in the shower which seemed a little weird to me. Very clean and a few little upgrades that other hotels might skimp on (as in better than builder grade bathroom counters and mirror) Great flat screen TV Comfy mattresses Hair dryer and iron/iron board Fridge and microwave Single cup coffee maker Wake up call! I am a former Road Warrior and I've now started to travel for the company I work with currently. I had not stayed at a Best Western before and booked them on this trip as we are using a new travel planner with tighter guidelines. I'd had a rocky experience on my flight in to SEA-TAC that put me about 3 hours behind schedule to get to Yakima for an event the next day... talk about putting a crimp in the first day of my trip! I get to the BW, walk in the door and there is Blair, greeting me with a warm smile and a hearty welcome, balm for the soul of a weary business traveler. She informed me that my Travel Planner had booked me in a Smoking room and she asked if that's what I wanted ("No, thank you!") so she looked at my reservation then said, "Oh, you're a Gold Member, let me put you in a suite!". (Reservations had matched my Gold status with another chain... how cool is that?!) Blair also offered me a snack bag with two bottles of water and some goodies then said, "If you haven't made plans for dinner, we're putting out some chili and cookies in a little bit". While not my first trip to Yakima, this was certainly the warmest greeting I'd gotten and certainly the best service from any hotel chain in years. Oh, and the chili was delish! The site itself is charming with a "lodge-y" feel. It is adjacent to a mall with chain restaurants, etc and the property is just off the highway: super-convenient, even if the roundabouts can be tricky when the drivers in front of you are afraid to take their turn... ;~) My suite was well-appointed with two queen beds, a roomy bathroom, partial kitchen (fridge, two electric burners, medium sized microwave, dishwasher and cookware/dinnerware/flatware for 4 plus granite countertops!) and a spacious living area with dinette, sofa and chair plus a small balcony with a view of the grassy courtyard and pool area. The livingroom even had a Murphy bead behind the couch: while overkill for just one person, it would be perfect for a family traveling in the area. I spent a very comfortable evening working at the dining table with HGTV on in the background then slept like a rock until my alarm went off. They serve a very nice breakfast in the dining room and even provide paper plates if you want to take food back to your room. The service was outstanding, everyone there both warm and accommodating, and I felt welcome in this clean, quiet, well-kept property. I plan to stay here again when business brings me back in April. read more

We reserved a king size bed room. The bed is very comfortable and had about 5 fluffy pillows. The bathroom is VERY small even for a slim person. The room we had wasn't vacuumed too well - we found a small dog tooth on the carpet - YUCK!! Don't be fooled by the breakfast. They claim "meat, egg patties, & much more." It really is cold scrambled eggs mixed with crumbled sausage, cut ham, or just plain eggs. It looks rather disgusting. I saw more than one person just dump it in the garbage - besides us. They also served hard cold biscuits with cold gravy. If you go early you'll find fruit, cold cereal, yogurt, orange juice. I didn't think this was much of a step up from continental breakfast. We'll be going out to breakfast tomorrow morning. The pool looks decent with tables and umbrellas. We didn't use it given there was a convention of teens out there screaming until 10pm at night. Don't blame them - it was a pretty hot day here. read more

We stayed at this Best Western because we were in town for soccer tournament. I was incredibly disappointed with our room considering the price of $128/night. And that was our group rate. I was told that the price was $119 when I booked, and I brought that up to the front desk clerk that checked us in. She quickly cut me off and informed me that it was the group rate and their typical rate is $150/night. The entrance of the Inn is beautiful and has a nice lodge feel. However, the room was incredibly tiny. There was hardly room to walk around the beds. The walls are thin and the doors are too. We could hear every noise. The positive side of this place is the hot breakfast in the morning, many choices. I have stayed at luxury hotels in Seattle and paid slightly more. I don't know how they get away with charging this amount for the limited amenities provided. We would not stay here again. It isn't in the best of area either. read more

Staff was nice, however despite being a non-smoking room it reeked of cigarette smoke and was musty. The entire hotel was very dated the carpet in the room was stained and gross. I wouldn't dare walk barefoot. The WIFI was absolutely horrible. It constantly would lose signal have no connection. I won't be staying here again and wouldn't recommend it either. read more

We booked a king suite and it had a balcony facing the pool, which we were concerned might be noisy but wasn't bad at all. The a/c worked well during the Oregon heat wave and the bathroom was nice with good counter space and decent towels. Wifi was decent, flatscreen tv with DirecTV was nice, and overall the experience was good. Front desk staff was pleasant and friendly, though this hotel uses an antiquated key-type system that appears proprietary to this location and in my mind doesn't lend itself to easy maintenance in the event of lost keys. Less-satisfactory hotels we stayed at during our two-week vacation all used keycards so this location should seriously consider it as well, though I understand the retrofitting would be costly upfront. Arrived New Years Eve day. Allowed me early check in. Booked on line for 90 dollars. Greeted wonderfully by Jason. Very professional in attitude and appearance. The foyer is very clean and welcoming. Upon entering the room, very fresh smell and everything super clean, even the corners. Bathroom a little small but nice with a heat lamp. Towels super soft. Coffee pot with actual coffee mugs! Bed very comfortable w nice pillows. Flat screen w good channel selection. Jason called the room to ensure everything was to my satisfaction. Nice gesture. It is super that they guest laundry facilities at a very reasonable rate. Location: while located next to a very busy truck stop (I am a trucker), there was absolutely no truck noise. An Outback was located not more than 100 yds. from the hotel and the mall within walking distance. I have not yet had the breakfast but, with the quality of everything else, I am looking forward to the experience. Highly recommend! read more

My daughter and I wanted to come over to Yakima for the state basketball tournament, so I asked my wife to find us a hotel. She said the reviews for this place weren't great, but the pickings were slim so we took it. They asked my wife if she wanted a room next to the pool and she said yes. When we got to the hotel, our room did have a nice view of the outdoor pool that was covered and closed for the winter. Okay then. I always like to sleep with the fan on, so I set the fan to on and turned off the heating and cooling. It wasn't long before the entire room began to smell like a combination of Marijuana and cigarette smoke. Yes, this was supposed to be a non smoking room. So, I had no idea what we were supposed to be paying for this room, but as I was walking out the door with bags in hand I notice a sign attached to the inside of the room door that stated that the maximum amount we could be charged for this room was $139 with a potential additional charge of $10 if we had a pet. When I get to the front desk to check out, the lady prints up my bill and I see that it is $169, plus taxes. I flinch and then mention to her the sign I had seen stating that the maximum charge for that room was $139. She bluntly stated that "that is an old sign that should have been removed because we have recently gone to "flex" pricing". Welllllll, I didn't have time for a discussion because I had a game to get to that I drove 4 hours to see. Needless to say, I wasn't happy with the handling of the pricing confusion and I will not stay at this place again. Oh, and I almost forgot that the ice machine on my floor was out of order. I found a brand new hotel at Legends Casino for the next 2 nights for $119 and $99 and so far the staff is awesome and the room is awesome. read more

Okay, it is my fault I left my phone charger. However I called within 4 hours and they said no it wasn't plugged into the wall where I left it. I requested both the housekeeping manager and the hotel manager to ask the cleaner direct on my behalf. No reply. So the cleaner got a $10 tip and my new Samsung fast charger. Strange behavior.
