The rooms are spacious. Use the air controller under the window, not the one on the wall. Rooms come with a mini fridge and a coupe of waters. We recently stayed over after playing golf at Half Moon Bay golf links. I was initially hesitant to book here after reading a few meh reviews and pics were not impressive. It's also located in front of an RV park. However upon our arrival we were pleasantly surprised to find a nicely well maintained 2 story hotel with lots of parking. Our room was on the 2nd level last room on the street side of hotel. Our room was nicely decorated with updated furnishings, very comfortable size and super clean. It felt rather new. The sign outside said est 2017. There is a brew pub on property that seemed to be popular but not too busy. The whole time we were there, we never heard our neighbors. It was nice and quiet. Our stay inclu ded a to-go breakfast bag: muffin, granola bar, apple, bottle of water and yogurt. Nice touch! We would definitely stay here again. read more

This is by the far the best affordable hotel I've stayed at for the price and class being a best western and not a Ritz or four seasons. The hotel is very new and clean and although it was practically empty when I visited, it felt cozy. The room was spacious and the beds were so comfortable. I loved how it came with a modern mini fridge and the bathrooms were stocked with refillable pumps of soaps and toiletries so we wouldn't run out of shampoo or body wash. Not much of a view for its location but the room was comfy and offered a good selection of cable tv. The best part was the hot breakfast buffet. They had a decent selection of fruits, baked goods, yogurts, fruits, drinks and best of all they had hot breakfast sandwiches! They serve free bottled organic water and orange juice too. Overall 5 stars for the hotel itself but 0 stars for the front desk. The best service we got was from the lady who was running the breakfast area alone the whole time we were there. The lady at the front desk was unwelcoming and not helpful at all and during the day you have to use a tablet to call someone via video call at their home for help with checking in or out etc It's been a few weeks since my stay and I still miss it. Friendly service, clean room. I don't know if it was the open bar at my wedding (and the double nightcap at the pub downstairs) or the bed but I didn't toss or turn. I slept like a baby. A baby so oddly quietly and incredibly still that you'd worry was in need of medical attention if not for the constant farts. Minor complaints: elevator seems slow, the breakfast pastry is a doorstop, the group booking lady was slow to respond, and the shampoo smells like lemon and wood like you've just dusted nice furniture. read more

Here's what you're likely thinking: what an underwhelming facade and boring location; this little chain hotel in a little parking lot off of busy HWY 1 with no ocean view in sight. DON'T let it fool you. This place is classy, welcoming, relaxing and affordable. We ended up here after a last minute change in accommodations, so disappointed at how uninhabitable our room at a well-reviewed inn in Pacifica turned out to be (smelling and looking like a gas station bathroom). So much so that we cancelled the day of and ran away, hoping that HMB would have something that allowed our beloved dog and wasn't $500 a night. Erica greeted us warmly at the front desk, in a lobby that was so surprisingly nice in its appointments: beach rustic with a British nod, brand-new feeling and fresh-smelling. We told her how offensive the smell and appearance of the aforementioned Pacifica property had been and she assured us that the cleaning products that they use at their location were eco-friendly and had no strong odors. She showed us a pet-friendly room on the 1st floor and we were sold immediately on how nicely it smelled (a faint whiff of leather, in the warm and rich sense; very clean), how beautifully decorated and how smartly designed it was. We felt...welcomed and valued. We booked our stay right then and there and proceeded to have an absolutely amazing trip in HMB, exploring the charming downtown, the Johnston House (the white Saltbox on the hill) and scouting out great beach spots for our dog to enjoy (do go to Fitzgerald Marine Preserve and Pillar Point). Go inside, take a whiff, have some citrus ice water in the lobby and eat at Cameron's next door, and you'll want to stay forever. read more

Not the best choice in Half Moon Bay. The Hotel itself is clean, and well up kept; the staff was friendly and accommodating; but this property was lacking in certain areas. 1. They charge $45 per night per pet (far more than most hotels we stay at). 2. They only provided Decaffeinated coffee pods (Green Mountain) in the room. 3. There was only one wash cloth and hand towel in the room. 4. At the breakfast bar I noted most of the Orange Juice bottles were three weeks past their expiration date. they n longer offer the fresh squeezed OJ as shown their picture gallery. 5. The Marketplace snack shop as shown their picture gallery is no longer functional. We frequently visit Half Moon Bay but will not be returning to this hotel. read more

I guess I thought I wrote a review, but maybe it was on the BW site. OK, the rooms are well appointed, tons of light, quiet and well insulated. They are a bit narrow, especially in the suite with the fireplace. The bathroom was okay, I would have preferred a tub, but we got a large shower. The service was okay, they are very nice and friendly. They are a bit understaffed and I had to wait a few times at the front desk for assistance when I needed something. Otherwise, this is a BW at heart but upgraded for the area. I had grave concerns staying next to the RV Park and had it been summer, I would have asked to be moved. Considering it rained almost all weekend, there wasn't any noise. However, for over $800 for two nights on a non-holiday weekend, I really don't want to go to the beach to look at an RV Park. read more

This was my first time staying at a Best Western, however I'm sure they aren't all this nice. I loved the cute British decor, which, especially in the guest rooms isn't over the top, just a nice touch. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. It wasn't the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in, but it was comfortable, clean and the staff was really nice. I also like that they still provide a free breakfast. The location posed a small problem for me. As someone who travels alone for work, I typically enjoy eating in my hotel room after a long day of physical and mental labor, so apps like Door Dash are a godsend. Often I have no issues accessing these apps, but in this area there isn't much close by and Door Dash is unavailable. Luckily, there is a Pub right next door, but my visit there left something to be desired so the next night I ended up just picking up Taco Bell on my way back to the hotel. The good thing about the location is I had a beautiful scenic drive when I drove in and out of the area! read more

This renovated hotel was called the Aristocrat during our July weekend stay. We walked into a clean, nicely decorated hotel. Of course, we picked the hottest weekend in the East Bay, so like most places, the Aristocrat was busy. While we didn't bring our dog, I initially liked that it was pet-friendly. As usual, my first stop in any hotel is to check out the cleanliness of the bathroom and, especially with Covid, it's pristine appearance was great. However, in the middle of Room 111's floor was a large, brownish/yellow, improperly cleaned spot that strongly resembled a pet "accident". Even with only initial housekeeping (except on request) and (although unlikely ) if this stain was NOT animal feces there was no excuse and it had been there a long time to be so dried and embedded. I certainly didn't let my feet touch the floor and it is unlikely we will stay there again. read more

Very nice new hotel and convenient to shops , restaurants and the Beach. I would give it 4 stars with one exception.... MALIK THE CREEP. He worked the check in office both Friday and Saturday nights and made my Girlfriend and I very uneasy. He had the demeanor of Hannibal Lector , not as menacing but none the less creepy. He followed and stared at us from the time of check in , to we unloaded our car and back through the lobby to the elevator. He also said some things to us to make us feel very uncomfortable and was unprofessional. His behavior was very odd to say the I contacted the front desk staff the next morning and they were very understanding and there had also been other complaints against this guy but he was scheduled to work the following night. When we were pulling into the parking lot just after 3 on Saturday , he followed a couple of teenage girls out of the building and stared at them until they were out of site. We briefly spoke with another couple who he checked in and the both acknowledged his oddness. The only logical explanation for his behavior is Drugs or mental illness. Very unprofessional and shouldn't be this job. However the rest off the staff, front desk and housekeeping were very friendly and professional. But I will not be staying there again , if Malik is an employee. UPDATE; Malik was arrested on double murder charges for fatally stabbing 2 men. Looks like I escaped near death. Glad I didn't take him up on his offer to Go hiking on his secret trail. read more

The room 208 (King Suite) was very pretty. Nice view of the valley, cute gas fireplace, plenty of space for a family of 3 plus a dog. However, I woke up at 4 am because I was being eaten by BED BUGS!! I'm very sensitive and allergic to bed bugs. My back started swelling up immediately. I went down to reception and asked to be moved. We were offered Room 125, which is a Double Standard room. Unfortunately, they didn't have any other King Suites available at 4 am. I asked if the hotel wanted cover laundry services for us, but the receptionist said we needed to take it up with the Manger after 8 am. So we and the bed bugs moved to a different room in the middle of the night. If Room 125 did not have bed bugs before, it certainly has them now. I got a new bite the next night. I'm mentioning room numbers in case someone else gets bed bugs in these rooms in the future. Manager Erika has been notified about the bed bug situation. If the hotel doesn't take care of it, the next traveler has the right to sue the hotel. This Best Western is now called "the Aristocrat." Stay away from it. There's a good chance that if you reserve a room, pay up front, and travel to Half Moon Bay, California from wherever you live, your prepaid reservation will not be honored, you will be turned away, and then given a runaround about a refund. My partner and I drove 70 miles to Half Moon Bay on February 19th to celebrate her birthday, and that's exactly what happened to us. Turned away and left to find another hotel at 5:00 p.m. on a Saturday evening. I've traveled extensively for both business and pleasure over 40 years and this is the first time that something like this has ever happened to me. The hotel desk clerk, rattled and annoyed because the couple ahead of us had exactly the same problem after traveling a much longer distance, was unhelpful and nasty. What she apparently expected was that I would listen to a sob story about how difficult all this was for her, before my partner and I hit the road to drive home through the early evening bumper-to-bumper traffic. That traffic was the very reason we booked a room in the first place. Following up the next day concerning a refund, I called Expedia, as I was instructed to do by the desk clerk, following her phone call with the hotel manager. Expedia called the hotel and was told by the clerk that I needed to speak to the hotel manager directly. The manager is not on premises, and isn't available, and so now it appears that I am without a remedy except to dispute the charge through my credit card company. Is there any worse customer service than this? It's possible that a conciliatory bunch of malarkey will eventually be posted by someone at Best Western to explain how difficult this situation was for the hotel and for everyone but the person who paid $389 to reserve this room, and then followed the hotel's instructions to seek a refund. Don't believe a word of it. Customer satisfaction at Best Western obviously isn't among the hotel's priorities. It's simple enough never to let anything like this happen to you. Just don't book at this hotel, or any Best Western, especially if you are 100% counting on getting the room that you paid for and not being royally screwed. read more

By far the best "best western" I've stayed at. Super clean and tastefully decorated. Top notch linens in par with Hyatt. Breakfast was the best motel breakfast with massive bowl of fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, toast, fresh waffles, juice, quality coffee, etc. Night one of seven while riding a tandem SF to LA. Rode all day in the rain. Came in muddy and soaked. Zero attitude from staff. Got cleaned up and had dinner at adjacent pub. Cheaper than going to England. Top notch! read more

My car was broken into and my whole purse stolen.... so had to cancel all my cards, including the one that they had the reservation booked on. She was so very kind listening to my story and really laid some of my worries about staying one more night to rest. This Inn is the bomb. First thing you notice is how spotless clean the lobby is. It smells great and there's a coffee and water station to greet you. Room was ready when we arrived and exactly what we reserved. King room is spacious and just as clean as the lobby. The bed was comfortable and ample pillows to make your stay perfect. Morning has a full buffet breakfast, eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, pastries and best of all fresh squeezed orange juice. Price us reasonable ($199 per night)for the area. The gran and go breakfast they provide is really awful. Low quality food and snacks full of preservatives. Hotel was amazing...! Very nice and brand new with a very welcoming staff. We arrived in the evening and we were greeted by a very nice front desk person who also went along in joking with my 5 y/o daughter about her traveling adventures. The manager happened to be at the front desk also and gave us great nearby beach recommendations (you can walk from the hotel just under a mile or drive to a couple different places.... we walked the scenic route through the coastal area). He also recommended several different restaurants close by that had great food with a lot of different choices for us and our kids. Overall, it was a great stay and everything was super clean and had great character which I wouldn't expect from a chain hotel which felt more like a boutique experience. The Good: -Friendly and knowledgeable staff -Very clean and very new -Great hot breakfast(simple and satisfying, my kids loved the cool OJ machine...) -room was a good size with great fireplace -great attention to detail and very well thought out style - Fitness room was just the right size and had a good mix of equipment The bad -parts of the hotel still under construction(finishing touches? I'm hoping this place gets better as they get more seasoned. It appears to be a new hotel and there was construction early in the morning with two idiots running equipment in the parking lot at 7 in the morning, and yelling and laughing while they took selfies of each other while we were trying to sleep. The room was ok. It's off of the beaten path just a bit but not far from downtown. It's ok for a quick nights stay on a short notice but, not a place i'd go out of my way to stay at. Manager not calling back Oct 31, 2019 I booked 7-3 a room for an up coming wedding and we had a block of rooms reserved (at least 10 rooms booked for the weekend of Oct 24-27.) On Thursday (10-24) we arrived at 9 PM to find out the hotel was over booked and we had no room. I had called on Monday 10-21 to let the hotel of our late arrival and that we were to be booked in a 2 queen room.Everything was fine for our arrival late Thursday. After front desk tried everything she contacted her manager William to help find us a room. Very satisfied the front desk called hotel management and was able to find us two rooms at a discounted rate. Happy with the service we went off to bed after a long drive. Sat 25 after visiting with family at another hotel I came back to being locked out of my room and my daughters had also been locked out. My husband came back locked out also. Found out the front desk only reserved our rooms for one night??? Oct 26 I checked my banking acct. to find we were charged for weekend rates. Not rates on confirmation, not rates agreed to on Thurs but much higher rates! I talked to William he agreed to look into it and fix it. Nothing was done. Beyond the hotels control PG&E shut down power Sat 26 threw Sunday 27. We could not check out properly. I was told again by Vicki that agreement on Thurs.night would be what we were charged. We were charged $1380.00 and additional 460.00 pending. Our original charge was to be 733.99. And Thurs. night we agreed to a different charge at a discounted rate for both rooms. All should have had AAA discount on top of it. NOW, William manager will not return my calls. He has been on property in "meetings" per Bob all day. I've left 4 messages. NOW I had to call customer care and they couldn't get in-touch with hotel. So I have a file number. I also contacted my back and they are ready to dispute charges. As the post from 10-28 on this feed it was difficult not having a shower, flushing toilets, coffee or breakfast, sleeping with generators from RV park and Pub that is attached but I know its not in the hotels control. Better planning since when we checked in and were told this is happened 2 other times in the last month would have been nice. I do feel bad for the young girl walking guest to their rooms with the flash light on her phone and having no one else with her in the pitch black. Maybe bottled water for guests leaving, fruit,breakfast bars....we had to drive to Gillroy before we could stop for gas and food. Again not the hotels fault but service would have been nice. Again, leaving (on Sunday 27) Vicki agree and remembered the price William had given us on Thurs the 24. AND SHE HAD THE PAPER COPY I SIGNED THURS NIGHT! My only regret was not to get a copy of what I signed on Thursday night with discounted price and AAA discount on top. If William would just return my 5 phone calls and give us back the money we were over charged it would be simple. And I have called verifying they have power several times since Sunday. What is more important a happy customer or a meeting? I know William was on property in "meetings" . I had problems with staying at a Best Western we would normally choose a different chain but because of the wedding and reserved block we went with it. My family stayed at this hotel for two nights in a king-size room with sofa bed. We checked in and out with no complaints. A few days after checking out, we received an email saying we are being charged $200 for breaking the sofa bed, which my 45 lb four-year-old had slept on. After I contested the charges, the General Manager suggested I also stole a black throw blanket. He had no evidence whatsoever. When I reported all this to Best Western Corporate, I was told that they cannot contest the decision of the hotel and they could do nothing further. No evidence needed, they can just charge you hundreds of dollars with impunity. So, buyer beware. Book somewhere else. read more

Ive stayed in alot of hotels, especially for days like today (my birthday). Now I have to say the cleanliness around this facility is fantastic. You can tell that they take a very serious approach to taking care of their guests and thats appreciated more than I can say in this time of the world. The room is great, awesome bed. And now, the young ladies at the front desk, Nadiah worked the evening and Kasandra (god I hope those are spelled right) worked in the morning. They were fantastic. Super, super nice and super helpful. I've been in customer service for a long time, and they know how to do it. Very polite, helpful, and a genuine feeling of caring for your needs as a guest. Fantastic job here, I WILL DEFINITELY be staying here alot more in the future. It made this part of my Bday suuuuper sweet! P.S. Clean and new hotel. During Labor Day weekend we stayed one night. We paid $290 for one room with two queen beds. The room was clean, had a large TV, enough space for our family of four to move around, free bottled water, and a keurig. The lobby had a nice fireplace to warm our trotters. The free bfast was good. Was a pleasure to stay in a place where everything is brand new! Staff was super nice, friendly and helpful. Room was sparkly clean, the bed was huge and a bit of heaven. Extremely large TV. Room was very quiet, but not 100% dark. I would suggest they invest in some heavy duty drapes. There were large wooden blinds, but it did not cut out all of the light. I also suggest a fan in the bathroom. Breakfast room was busy - an OJ machine that crushed fresh oranges was very cool. Typical fare otherwise, which could be improved upon, but was not the worst i have had. Was the lowest rate I had found in the area, so we were very happy. It's hard for me to describe this place. I can start with what I liked, the TV has great channels. It looks clean, unless you actually notice the dark pubic hair on the floor. the shower head is literally 8 feet from the floor of the shower, I couldn't reach it standing on my toes with my arm stretched to the max. I'm 5'5", not super short for a girl. so weird, it's very hard to adjust it in any way. No bathtub, a real bummer after driving all day wanting to soak away the aches and pains. No pool or hot tub, which was booking.com's fault, I filtered that into my search, but didn't double check as I was on the road at the time. Rather loud for the location. the bed is weird, the head is lower than the feet, when I turn around and put my head at the other end, away from the tv it's fine, but lying facing the tv my feet are higher than my head, uncomfortable to say the least. I've stayed in much nicer places for much less money. Not a fan. Ok, one more weird thing. The "artwork" is hung on the walls so high, the bottom of the pictures is at the top of my head, weird. oh, it gets even better, there's hooting and hollering down the hall toward the lobby, it's 11:30pm, I call the desk and ask "is there a party going on down there?", she actually paused and said hmmm, yeah, kind of, do you want me to ask them to quiet down? I said, ya, I do. Unbelievable. Oh no, please let people party in the lobby all night. I didn't pay to SLEEP here, I must have paid to be irritated by other people being loud and obnoxious half the night. Now I hear high heels? tramping up and down the hall, she probably told them what room was complaining. I don't doubt it. getting even weirder, the peep hole was stuffed full of paper. took it out so i could see what was going on. why would the previous people block it like that. another, no microwave, frig is not cold, not even close. they advertise smoke free property, I almost asked the huge guy sucking on a cig right in front of the lobby door if I could have one, but I hung tight and didn't! Still not smoking, yeah! but the point was a smoke free property, not so much. here are some tips to improve this place: put in a pool. put microwaves in the rooms. put bathtubs in the king rooms. lower the artwork and the showerheads. not done, more to come read more

This place is surprisingly decent for a Best Western. My guess is it was an independent outfit before getting bought up by BW. In spite of that, it seems to have retained its charm. First off, you really can't miss this place. It's right on Highway 1, and is super brightly lit with neon green lights at night. With the pub attached, it really does have the feel of being on a street corner in Britain. Plus it's walking distance to Poplar Beach and the coastal trail, which is great if you don't want to sit around in traffic and fight for parking on a warm day. The hotel is very well maintained, inside and out, and everything is very clean and the decor is tasteful. The room we got was really spacious and came stocked with a good variety of Keurig coffee. I was pretty impressed with the WiFi, which is free and very fast... something you didn't always see at hotels, but is a necessity if you are trying to do work. The staff is attentive and friendly and you never have to wait long for someone to come to the front desk. Though I haven't stayed at any of the other hotels in town, I have to believe this is one of the best, as a lot of the places up the road just look dumpy.
