Placed an order for pick-up today. I've been to this Best Buy and I like going to it because it is in Lake County and the taxes are cheaper. I pkaced my order at 3:24 PM and it was ready to be picked up my 3:34 PM! I headed over and when I arrived, I checked in on the app and it was updated with a button to indicate that I'm in line. We shopped for some phone accessories but didn't find anything we wanted. So we made our way to the pickup line. We were greeted immediately and I mentioned that I was picking up an order. The cashier scanned my phone and quickly pulled my order. I checked it and it was exactly what I ordered. The cashier said thanks for the order and we were on our way out. Overall, the service was the winner here. Staff was friendly and the item I purchased was $100 off where every other store I checked online had it for regular price. I highly recommend buying from this location as the staff is quick to gather your online order and they are very nice at this store. read more

I wanted to buy a new computer at a store, instead of online, so I could ensure a salesperson earns a commission. The experience was not great, though there were some bright spots. I was initially directed to the Apple area. Two employees were working there with other customers - no problem. They disappeared after a bit, seemingly with those customers. About ten minutes of waiting later, hoping someone would be ready, I found both employees at the Microsoft area. No one had been available in the Apple area for that long - it seems understaffed. Someone in sales worked with me and was largely informative. The process wasn't inefficient; buying a new piece of technology takes time. Even so, it got a bit frustrating when two errors came up. First, upon transferring me over to the Geek Squad section, so I could have them transfer the data and assess the resale value, the first error came through: The transfer was said to be $40, but the woman at GS told him me was mistaken, and that it's $40 to transfer data between phones but $90 for computers to do so. I will give them credit for the high resale value of my old computer - Apple's online estimator gave me a paltry $35, whereas Best Buy assessed it to about $150. Still, the process of figuring out whether or not I could apply that directly to the bill, had to do a store credit, etc., was something the employees had to ask multiple other people about. It is OK to do that, of course, but it felt inefficient to this degree. As the GS employee looked through my computer, she mentioned that they'd have the new computer ready (with the data transfer) within 24-48 hours. I was very surprised! I politely mentioned that no one had told me that it would be an "overnight" thing - taking some time was anticipated, but overnight or even 2 days?! She was surprised I hadn't been told yet. Sales very much should've mentioned this, and there should be more coordination between teams. I wound up leaving it overnight, especially since my old computer already got the resale value assessed and needed to be there. It was ready pretty early the next day, which is good, but this was overall frustrating. Not as important, but they love to have 2-3 loud songs all playing at the same time. It is one thing to have different songs in different areas of a large store, but this was all quite close together, in terms of where the sound was coming from, and it was jarring and annoying. EDIT: I forgot to add...they have roving salespeople from AT&T who make eye contact with you while you're waiting around and then take advantage of your kindness. I find this process frustrating, similar to people with clipboards trying to get you to sign something. It is intrusive and tacky. I don't know why they allow this. read more

Sunday I went to Best Buy Vernon Hills store which is close to my hose to buy an Apple iWatch, The model Ultra that I wanted cost about $900 and I did my homework and knew exactly the model that I wanted. Walked into the store which was like a ghost town. I saw maybe a few customers walking around. Looked for a salesperson which took a few minutes to track down. After I told her want I wanted, she responded that she is too busy with another customer, that i should go to the front and they will find someone to help. I did just that and there was no one in teh front. Again seeing an employee with a blue jacket walk buy i asked for some to help me get the iWatch, he said that I should wait by the display and he will get someone to help me. Waited another 10 minutes and walked back to the front again and this time there was a greeter person. I asked her that I know what i want, I do not have any questions, just need for someone to give me the product. She said that everyone is busy and that it will be 15-20 minutes. I said the "The store is empty why so long", to which she replied that everyone is busy. I told her that I should have gone to an Apple Store. I waited for about 10 minutes and walked up to her again. With an annoyed expression she said that "sorry no one is available right now". I said this is unacceptable and l am leaving to an Apple Store (which I would need to drive about 10 miles. She said "I am sorry but we are short staffed". I said yes you are and whose problem is that". You don't even understand what the problem is. I drove to an Apple Store in Deerpath, and walked in. Wall to wall people and about 25 salespeople. Got attention immediately, the associate brought me the product I wanted, I paid for it and left in about 8 minutes. Drove to ABT because I wanted to look at some grills. Again packed with people, I got a salesperson immediately who walked me through the options. Best Buy VH is grossly mismanaged. You have a customer walking in the store wanting to spend $900 and is unable to do so with the store having the product. But its more than that. Its the company culture, I can see it in the attitude, the behavior and most important by the customer experience. very different attitude and experience in Apple Store and Abt Inc. We needed a cable for a laptop and first tried to find it at a retail store rather than online. We were greeted as soon as we entered the store -- and the staff person recommended two locations in store where we could look for it. Unfortunately, BestBuy did not carry it and we'll probably have to order it online after all. The store was clean and organized, though not many customers. I had an amazing experience at the Best Buy in Vernon Hills this morning. When I got to the store, I was greeted by James Gotshall, who asked me if I needed help. I did. I had bought a replacement power cord on Amazon for my HP laptop. It didn't fit well, so my laptop wasn't powering as efficiently as it should. I asked him if we could open the box and try the replacement power cord that was supposed to fit my laptop to make sure it was a snug fit. He did just that. It worked! I bought two cords. When I went up to check out, only one register was open. There was a wait. James saw this and opened up a register to check me out. James is an outstanding employee. He made a visit that I thought was going to be a headache into a wonderful shopping experience. read more

I purchased a Yamaha receiver from the GM of the store, who helped me. It failed completely after 2 months. Store would do nothing said to contact Yamaha directly. After several wasted calls toi Yamaha they finally said to send it back and they would evaluate. They agred to send a new one That unit acted up in 3 days, will not communicate with my tV a top model Sony XBR to do basic things like turnthe TVon and off. Previous Yamaha did it fine. Best Buy no help at all,talk to Yamaha. Yamaha Tech Suppirt said it must be your TV. I explained this is the same TV as used with the previous Yamaha-NOTHING IN RESPONSE I went back to Best Buy. I stopped in to BestBuy because a store that I was at in the same shopping plaza did not have a public bathroom. After visiting the clean bathroom which had paper towels (not an air hand dryer!) Sold me an HP Envy computer. It was on sale for about $700 Out of the box, the computer would not work - it would not read an SD card. After six months of playing their delaying tactics, visiting their ineffective Geek Squad, four separate times, they finally realized that the mother board was defective and they had to junk it. They had my $$ for 6 months. I had no computer for 6 months They also had me purchase a $180 membership for assured and expedited repairs. That was also money down the drain I had about a solid week of my time trying to get this piece of garbage to work. I purchased and loaded software on the computer They will only give me a store credit for the computer. It will cost me, aside from the trips, software purchase, loading of programs and fooling around with it, another $300 over and above the original cost of the computer and the Best Buy membership to purchase a different computer. They will only say, 'well we are giving you your money back' To make me whole, I will somehow have to end up spending an additiona $1,400 on this experience. To say that I am an unhappy camper, and a screwed purchaser is an understatement. read more

Facing lots of competition from online retailers and discount stores (like Costco and Sams Club), as well as electronics retailers in premium malls, I like how Best Buy has made some improvements to stay relevant in the current market. Some things I really like about the store: - Very nice and spacious parking lot - The salespeople weren't too cumbersome, and the ones I talked to were knowledgeable about the products. - Overall, it wasn't too loud or crowded inside, with a logical layout - Lots of discount appliances were available, in addition to premium options - Nice displays for premium products, almost giving it a mall feel - Good selection of all items from TVs to appliances to cameras to smartphones - Great displays for appliances, especially full kitchen setups. This really stood out for me for being nicer than most stores I'd visit when shopping for appliances. - Excellent selection of televisions - Had several VR options available, including an oculus rift unit for testing. What I wasn't a big fan of was the aged dark color carpet which doesn't fit in with the "cool" vibe the store seems to be projecting. The really cold warehouse lighting also took away from the experience and contributed to a negative opinion when I first stepped in (versus warm lighting and nice bright wooden tones on displays or brighter colored walls to invoke positive feelings). This was confusing as the carpet and lighting was distracting enough to take away from the overall premium and modern looks of the displays and products. The selection of games, music, and other media were also quite limited, although the push to stream these online may contribute to the decline. Overall, I like this Best Buy store more than other local ones and would visit again when looking for premium products. read more

I called Samsung they were sending a technician out Tuesday then it changed to Thursday then they canceled Thursday cause they needed to order parts ( for a TV they haven't even looked at yet) now my appt is for 12/6 . I have used Geek Squad for several years under a service contract. They are pretty good for in-home servicing of theater/entertainment systems and for IN-STORE work on computers. BUT: Their remote service is DREADFUL and to be avoided at all costs. Best Buy contracts out this work to a company in India or SE Asia; their people are very hard to understand and they are TERRIBLE with computers. They twice wiped out permanently all data on my computer when asked to do a very simple task. They never accomplished properly any of the simple tasks I have asked of them, and they take a very long time to do a very bad job. (In my last use of them, I was on the phone with a series of their "top and most experienced people" for 5 hours straight and they still weren't able to do the task. All of my experiences with them have been dreadful. NEVER, NEVER USE THEM. read more

I have only one expectation....I want the best all the time service. Best Buy Geek Squad delivered; they did not mind my requirements and exceeded on meeting each expectation. They are lead by by a great GM, by the name of Shawn. I had a unique requirement during my data transfer process and it had to be approved by Shawn. He approved the unique requirement and technicians Kyle and Palmer took care of the rest. I highly recommend Best Buy Geek Squad. They are solid, you will have a great experience. I will say one thing when buying any computer, device, or platform. Make sure you have well defined requirements and expectations. Communicate clearly and you will not have any issues. read more

BestBuy is on its way to join Circuit City in the tech graveyard. Bought a sound bar that went bad after a couple weeks and they exchanged it. The new sound bar had the same problem but lasted about 2 months longer. Called BestBuy customer service and they said there were problems with this sound bar so bring it to the store for a refund. Manager John at the store immediately said can't do anything for me and I'll have to contact Samsung. Not even looking at my purchase history. Didn't care about my past loyalty. BestBuy's service has gone down, they'd rather pawn you on the manufacturer then stand by the products they offer...they've lost a customer who's bought multiple tvs, sound bars and watches the last couple of years. Bought a package of a refrigerator, stove and dishwasher 2/20/2020 with the black tie warranty. Our refrigerator went out 3 weeks ago at this point. Why hasn't it been fixed, you ask? It should've been if the techs ever showed up. We've had two appointments now that have failed to call or show up. We've spent a total of 12 hours and several hangups on the phone to try and get anywhere. We now have a third appointment, NEXT WEEK. I'd be surprised if they even show up. We were at Best Buy Vernon Hills yesterday. We had a Samsung galaxy watch that has fall detection but the fall detection was unreliable. Rich from the Geek Squad worked on the watch for over an hour and was finally able to get the watch to send out an SOS when a fall was detected. He was extremely diligent and determined. I was there on November 5th, 2022. The girl who helped to apply the City Bank credit card for financing to bay a laptop was very rude and nervous. Unfortunately she didn't wear her badge so I don't know her name. Then the manager came, his name is Jhon, but unfortunately he was also not polite and started blaming me for some reason and citing that my English is not very good. This is very strange, because when they issued a credit card, they understood my English, and when I asked for clarification of the details, they stopped understanding my English. This store has gone to being the best place to get CDs, DVDs, stereo and video cables, etc., and now they have nothing anymore. Anytime you go in to get something, they say they don't carry that in the stores, but you can get it online through their website. No kidding. I can get anything I want on the internet, the point of a brick and mortar store is so you can run in and buy it and have it home using it within the hour! The other annoying thing is that they have more annoying salespeople in the store than shoppers! You can't be in this place for more than 2 minutes, and have to keep repeating no, you don't need any help, you are just looking, leave me the hell alone so I can look and think without asking me that a hundred times by each employee! There is a HELP desk in the place, if I needed help, I would walk up to the help desk and ASK for help. All the salespeople either need to go behind that help desk, or just wait for someone to approach them, stop being like the blue ghosts in Pacman chasing after us, as we try to run away from them so they leave us alone. Highland Superstores and Fretter used to be like this, and they didn't last very long! Best Buy is going to go out of business too, if they don't stop with the high pressure salespeople. And a greeter at the door now asking questions too? Step aside and let people walk in. But I guess that is irrelevant now that they don't even sell CDs or DVDs anymore, they used to be the place to go for music and movies! Now you have to buy everything online, so no need to walk into this store anymore, as they don't stock anything anymore. If they were smart, they would go back to selling CDs and DVDs again. That was the only reason people really went to Best Buy. Or to buy a TV. Even the selection of TVs has almost disappeared. Or has it, do they even sell TVs at Best Buy stores anymore? Don't know, because I haven't stepped foot in this place the past two years, they don't carry anything I ever want or need anymore. Get rid of the salespeople, and stock the store with some merchandise. Half the store is cellphones, I bought my cellphone from the cellphone service provider for less than half the price Best Buy was selling the same model. No one goes to Best Buy to get a cellphone, you go to a cellphone store for that. Learn a lesson from Radio Shack. Radio Shack stopped carrying electronic parts and turned into a cellphone store. Then went out of business for that stupid move. Best Buy is for buying CDs and DVDs. It would be like if McDonalds decided to stop selling Hamburgers and started selling cellphones instead. read more

Worst customer service imaginable!!! I just wasted about an hour of my time on the phone with BestBuy customer (dis)service. It all started when I made a mistake of going to a BestBuy store in Vernon Hills, IL, to get my son a birthday gift - a new game console and a couple of games for it, for the total amount of just under $500. One of the games required an activation code, I was told it would be emailed to the address I provided. This morning, more than 12 hours after the purchase, having received no code via email, I called the customer service at the number printed on my receipt. They told me that they would need to transfer me to the Digital Download Department, which at that time was closed, and that I needed to call back later. I did. After I waited for nearly 20 minutes to get connected to a live person, I was transferred to the Digital Download Department, where they told me that I should have purchased this download on bestbuy.com rather than in store, that they were unable to assist me, and that I needed to go back to the store where I made the purchase. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, a representative told me that her supervisors would not take my phone call, and repeated that she could not help me. I then called the general customer service phone number again, and asked to speak with a customer service supervisor. Instead, a representative who answered my phone call said she would transfer me to the Digital Download Department. Trying to explain to her that I already spoke with them and they refused to assist, and that I wanted to speak with a customer service supervisor, proved futile - without listening, the representative transferred my call to Digital Download Department, where they once again said they could not help. read more

Took 3 times for it to accept my credit card, but eventually confirmed, Credit card Compary called me, I confirmed no fraud. Site shows oder being prepared. 3 hours later, on their site, its "Still Being Prepared for Pick Up":" So, look at site to see where the problem is, no info. I call, says 30min wait, after it takes me 5-10 min to get to the option to talk to an operator.Didnt want to wait that long, hanged up, saw what stores had the printer I wanted,. We've been to the Best Buy at Vernon Hills on more occasions than one and our experience here has been positive every single time. The store itself is pretty big with a vast selection of things one would expect to buy at a store like this. There is a person usually at a counter near the entrance who can help if you are looking for something specific and not sure where to find. Recently I was here to buy just a memory card and not only did he point me in the right direction but also had one of the store staff sent over who could help me out with my purchase and any questions I may have. All in all this is a nice Best Buy to be at! read more

I LOVE this Best Buy!!! The staff at this location are so nice and very helpful. I got my LG refrigerator from this location and had a wonderful experience. This location has a lot of home appliances that u don't see at Abt and home depo. When my refrigerator got delivered to my house, the style and size was perfect in my kitchen. I bought my coffee machine here today and again was enjoyable shopping experience. I will come for more electronics and appliances. read more

When we checked out, an old lady named CATE was the cashier. She asked if we want to register our phone number just in case we wanted to return the merchandise but I said NO it's okay. Then she SARCASTICALLY said "WHY IS EVERYBODY HAVING ISSUES GIVING THEIR PHONE NUMBER AWAY FOR SOMETHING THAT IS GOOD?". There's no argument about their low prices. They are very competitive. However, if you were to order any appliances that require delivery, you are in trouble. We bought a stove that needed to be delivered to our condo which is a high rise in the city. Best Buy gave us a 5-hour window that our stove will be delivered, which is even worse than the cable company. On top of that they tried delivering twice outside their promised time and outside the permissible delivery time at our building. The third time they tried delivering, they called after I literally waited all morning from 9- noon that they will 2 hours late. At that point, I canceled my order and decided to go with ABT which was night and day better. Never again buying anything from BestBuy that requires delivery. read more

WOW what great service. I was referred by the Verizon store in Vernon Hills to go to Best Buy to purchase a new phone. I had not done business with Best Buy for years. Yet I reluctantly went and I am glad I did. I met Jenkins in the phone department. I had not bought a phone in 5+ years. He was though in explaining features on a few different phones and helped narrow down what would work best for my usage. (Which only consists of phone calls, text, messaging, and low internet use). Jenkins set the phone up and made sure all the apps moved over. The ones that did not he reserched and figured a way to make it work. He was professional and customer service oriented. I want to like best buy and enjoy having it in my area but the service here is awful. The people that work here are all about making the sale and trying to sell you their protection plan and have no customer loyalty. I purchased a new iPhone 6 here and within 8 days a small hairline crack appeared in the screen. I went back and was told by customer service they would take it back since it was within the 14day return policy but I had to go to the phone department to do it. After waiting for 50 minutes for a rep to be available only to be told they would not take the phone back even though the manager said he could tell from his assessment the phone was not dropped (which it was not and not mishandled). I called apple who said that best buy should take it back within that period but they would not. Thankfully the Apple Store handled the situation appropriately. Best buy you need to learn how to work for your customers or you will go away just like your cd collection...a thing of the past. Oh for anyone else with this issue a hairline crack in iPhone screens with no other damage to the phone is considered a defect and covered under the 1 year warranty and was replaced for free at the Apple Store. read more
