    My beloved Longboard
    Phil S.

I took my favorite longboard to Bethesda Boards for just a change of wheels. Kaare (pronounced Carey) the owner looked over my 30+ year old board and suggested a complete refurnishing new wheels, bearings, grip tape etc. I came back later that afternoon to essentially a new board that I have re fallen in love with. He charged me very very reasonable prices for the parts and next to nothing (or maybe nothing) for the labor (of love). Kaare has a love of people, skating and skaters which is obvious by the way he treats customers young and old (I'm a skate geezer). He has some young acolytes working in the store who are helpful, hard working and share his love of all things skateboarding. He has recreated the feeling of the legendary skate shop of my youth - the Sunshine House in Bethesda (he even gave me some vintage stickers and new stickers for my board). Bethesda Boards is a great place for young skaters to hang out and dream or shop for a new board, I was particularly taken with how they respectfully took care of and encouraged the young women who visited and purchased at the store. I have been skating for over 50 years and I've been to a lot of skate shops and this place is one of a kind for it's atmosphere, energy and service. It has this skate geezer's unqualified 100 star endorsement! Keep up the good work and keep skating!

Great front of the store, can't miss it with a controversial sign or "art" hanging above the door.

I'm not even a skateboarder; I needed help loosening my in-line skate wheels, and Kaare totally took care of me, no charge.

Most of the other bike shops I stepped foot in managed to mansplain me right back out the door. Laurel was patient and helpful as I tried on literally every pair of pants (men and women) in the showroom. The crew there was also super gracious in helping me with some basic questions about my new bike. Love my new riding pants and gloves. Really looking forward to coming back to take a basic maintenance class, learn more about fixing my bike up myself, and meeting more riders.

It's also a great place to learn more about your machine, make repairs, and customize. Gear selection is limited to make finding what you want easy. The shop is very spacious to keep the space feeling more like a hangout than a warehouse for merchandise. A lot of the brands are not distributed by any other brick and mortar shop in the area (Saint comes to mind), and all are high quality and stuff you would actually buy. There is also a selection of supplies, which is targeted for members if the motorcycle club. They stock 15-50 boxer oil which is hard to find to support the boxer owners that are members. This evolving support is part of what makes membership valuable. Which brings us to membership. Half of the space is a members only garage which is available by signing up for one of a few membership tiers. Dues vary with access: higher tiers cost more and give you more time to make use if the garage space, use the wide assortment of shop tools, and in a few cases give access to specialized machinery. Classes that are made available to the public are offered to members at a discounted rate. It's common for 2-3 different projects being worked on, and collaboration is natural. The DC moto scene is small but welcoming, and Dunn Lewis is definitely a good place to connect. They offer events and rides that are available for anyone, and it would be hard not to get involved with DC moto clubs like dirt church if you hang around the shop. Mason and Laurel who run the shop are always available for tips on what's happening around the city and are a huge part of what make DLMC worth supporting. There's also great food and bars on the same block. Worth mentioning. As far as what could be better: it's a new space and features are growing. So if it doesn't have everything you need, you might have to wait for them to bring it in. But you only need to make the suggestion and it's something you'll probably see in the future. All moto and scooter riders are welcome. More than worth a look.

But right after we walked the first salesman, Allen greeted us and got me set up with Joe G. Joe listened to what I wanted and found the perfect bike for me. A 2016 Can Am Spyder RSS. She is the perfect color and everything. The total time from paperwork to out the door with paperwork was just under an hour! Two days later after they'd put her together( my bike was so new it was in the crate and the warhorse crew had to put her together) and had her at the store ready for me to take home. Gunnar in finance was awesome and friendly and they hurried but got everything done so we could try to beat a big rainstorm that was on the way. Another salesman, Jim S., filled in for Joe (who was off the day I picked up the bike) and did an excellent job giving me final instructions on the shop and how to operate my new bike.Everyone in that store including the parts guys had a big smile and told me congrats on my new baby! #bestfeelingever I have been riding 2 wheels for over 20 years so the info he and some of the other guys gave me helped!! The price was fair (other than fees). But the experience could've been better/more. Their fees are higher than other shops, and they don't flex/waive any of them, nor tell you what the fees really cover. Other shops know they can be flexible because a positive experience means they can make money back in the long term from related additional purchases or return/loyal visits. Pete's didn't seem interested in any of that. It was a very much one-done transactional experience.
