I've been a loyal customer at Cycle Gear - Springfield, VA and have spent thousands of dollars here without any issues--until now. Recently, I bought a pair of winter gloves after the sales rep assured me they'd keep my hands warm in 40°F weather. Within 15 minutes of riding, my hands were freezing. I went back to return them within the 90-day window, and the gloves were in as-new condition. However, the manager on duty stated they could not be taken back because I mentioned I'd ridden in them--despite the posted return policy clearly saying this restriction only applies to helmets. The gloves showed no wear, and I was well within policy, but he kept insisting corporate wouldn't allow it. The whole exchange dragged on for about 20 minutes, with the manager repeatedly calling me back to the counter in a dismissive tone to tell me whatever corporate supposedly said next. It felt disrespectful and unprofessional. As someone who has spent a lot of money at this store, I'm extremely disappointed in the lack of corporate clarity, disregard for customer loyalty, and basic courtesy. Can't make this a one star review because the other customer service reps have been great. read more

I walked in, trying to find a part. So I asked an African-American sales person that was at the counter. He was short in his responses to me zero courtesy. And I get it motorcycle. People are supposed to be tough, but I just needed to get some help, instead the only thing he said was to go look at three different websites. I could've done that from home. Had an horrible experience at this Springfield Cycle Gear location. Purchased a Neotech 2 helmet and the manager (African American big built guy) was unprofessional and wasn't enthusiastic about working with us. We needed assistance in mounting a Bluetooth device we purchased along with the helmet. The manager took the helmet and without notifying us, glued it on the helmet (essentially you can't take it off or return the helmet making it final sale) instead of clipping it on. He didn't consult with us prior to doing so. Now we are stuck with a glued Bluetooth helmet and if we try to mount a new Bluetooth, it'll damage the $800 helmet. We reached out with our concerns and the shop misinformed us first and when we corrected them, they pushed back with new explanation thinking we wouldn't know. Overall, the do not seem to care about customer service nor wants to help if you run into issues after purchase. Buy your accessories SOMEWHERE ELSE. SHAME ON THIS BUSINESS. read more

Back-to-back good experiences here. I went in for advice on and to get fitted for a helmet. I showed up fifteen minutes before closing. The woman at the desk told me not to worry about the time and wanted to make sure I got exactly what I needed. Tried on multiple helmets and she patiently explained the standards and technologies in each, while being sensitive to my budget when recommending helmet models. I suffered a massive TBI in a car accident years ago and she was incredibly sympathetic. I left the store with my new helmet ten minutes after closing. When I got into my car I saw them turn the lights off within seconds of my exit, I realized they had kept the store open and I was the last customer there. Very classy. When I went to my motorcycle training course a few days later my instructor pointed out that I had probably chosen the wrong size and there was too much free play in the helmet. I took it back, this time another staff member was present. He didn't give me any stick about returning a helmet. Inspected it within a few seconds and was very kind on a return and exchange that would net him zero commission. I rarely write reviews, but this place was fantastic. It can get crowded in there at times with too many customer and too few attendants, but that's every business these days and that they're so patient with each customer is a welcome throw back to when people gave a damn about good customer service. read more

Upon entering I was immediately greeted and helped. The employee that was helping me was very knowledgeable about the different types of motorcycle gear and the levels of certification of the gear. When he was showing me the different types of gear and me asking a ton of questions. He never seemed irritated or anything. Very down to earth and social. Also very helpful & knowledgeable. The overall place is fully stocked and very clean. Some of the items are pricey though. But after comparing some of the prices of the stuff in the store to amazon on my phone it seemed almost the same though. The selection is somewhat limited depending on what your looking for though. They are fully stocked with helmets, jackets & other stuff. But if you're looking for knee pads and elbow pads. Your limited. They have a fitting room and are very friendly with you trying on gear. When I was there I must have tried on like 5 different outfits. Never felt rushed or anything. They were also very professional in helping me find the correct sizing. With motorcycle gear it should NOT be loose fitting or baggy. It should be SNUG fitting. Very friendly & helpful employees. Also very social. The general crowd is mainly adults. Regular people and motorcyclists. The only downfall is the bigger stuff tends to be sold out. Depending on your body type. You may have a limited selection due to sizing. But I still managed to find a perfect snug fitting size pants & jacket. Overall A+++++++++ read more

I came here in preparation for a cam am trike class. I didn't have any gear and wasn't really sure what to get. The first guy I met was busy and so I wandered a bit. Then I met chastity (hope I spelled it correctly) she was awesome!!!! Patient.. showed me some sale items... didn't just upsell me on expensive stuff. I really appreciate my experience here. Here's my experience at Cycle Gear: - Another customer checked out while I was there and his total was $42 + change. He hands over a $100 bill and the employee says, "We don't have change for that." Seriously? I know not many people use cash these days, but you can't provide less than $60 in change to make a sale? The customer left without making a purchase. - I browsed for 5 or 10 minutes then asked for help finding a helmet that fits me correctly. There were two guys working. One was doing something on paper and a computer (which I assume was ordering or some other store-related activity). The other guy was tasked with helping the customers on the floor, ringing up their orders, and answering the phone. He was really nice, but he was doing everything himself while the other guy stared into the computer ignoring everyone. After another 10 minutes of not being helped after asking for assistance -- I decided it was time to leave. - I went back a second time and the staff were friendlier, but just as clueless. Not sure if it's the current job market or what the issue is, but it seems like they just hire anyone with a pulse instead of trying to find people passionate about motor sports. I could even look past that if the staff were knowledgeable and helpful, but they're not. - Helmet inventory was pretty pathetic, so I tried some helmets on to get the right size then ordered online from Amazon. Walked in to Cycle Gear and was told I was required to wear a mask to shop in the store. Walked out, got a mask on, came back in. Fun fact, the guy mandating the mask policy had a neck gaiter pulled down. Its interesting that the other store members had their masks on and the mask police had his down. When I came back in he pulled it up. But the whole time he was talking to me he had it down. Called the store after I left and talked to RJ. He said the policy was you had to have your mask on. He said in Fairfax County its mandatory. I went to the Fairfax County site and found the most up to date information as of 8/25/21. Its recommended for all but not mandated. It's one thing to be fearful of COVID. It's another to rewrite policy to suit your own world view. And even though a different guy really did try to help me, the bad experience was so strong I think I'm done with this store which I used to love, buying electronics, armor, etc. It's a shame, but I won't be lied to by anybody and there are plenty of other businesses to shop at. read more

Took him a while to even recognize that I was there. Told him what I was looking for and got a "we don't have that you need to order it online", then went back to his phone. They have their own brand that is good that is on sale all the time and other brands that demand a better price that are better quality and in endurance. I was disgusted when they told a rider a helmet is a helmet. They have Shoei Shoei helmets are no better than? Seriously a helmet is a helmet? WRONGE. WRONGE WRONGE. Shoei has years in experience in helmet safety that Cycle Gear needs to convey to their employees. Your helmets meet code. Amazing Experience!! I don't often right reviews, but my experience at the Springfield Virginia wrote was so over the top I need it to. As a new dual sport motorcycle owner, I need it a jacket, boots, helmet Gloves, etc. Brian was so over the top patient, kind and Incredibly knowledgeable of the products he sells. He explained the differences between gear for adventure riding, sport riding, and selected gear for me to try-out, based on my likes and dislikes. I was there over 2 hrs, and even though he was the only employee handling customers and the phone, he made sure to pull down gear for me to try, while he juggled his other responsibilities. I would really like to see Brian recognized for the amazing person he is. After all, as a business owner, I know your employees that are in front of your brand can make or brake you. Mid to low end products except a few nice Arai, Shoie, and AGV helmets...the rest is Sedici and Bilt. Also, the spare parts they keep are the kind you can get off eBay for cheap. I probably wouldn't have posted this review because at the end of the day id like to see any motorcycle related business succeed, but the cashier is consistently rude to me every time I step in the store. I don't fit the mold of a biker, I get it. He mugs me and gives me the "wtf-are-you-doing-in-here" look every time I walk in here. Sorry I have a day job and have to be in professional looking work clothes bro. Sparkling with all its newness, I ran into this bike shop off Backlick to get a motorcycle helmet tonight and had a great experience. It was close to closing, but the staff was busy helping folks and unloading stock. I explained that I just wanted a simple helmet for occasional riding behind someone else. The person helping me asked a couple questions, showed me a few options of styles, helped me find ones in my size to try on, and just overall was a pleasure to deal with. There was no "up-sell". He even stayed late after closing to put a different visor I'd selected on the helmet for me. This place is close to me and I appreciate that the staff got that I just wanted something to wear to ride without breaking the bank on something fancy. They don't sell or work on bikes here - its a gear place only, but as I don't own my own ride that suits me just fine. read more

I had just passed the MSF course and it was time to get some gear. I bought a 2013 Harley Davidson Dyna Street Bob and was ready to ride. I had never bought a helmet, or any motorcycle gear before, so I knew nothing about fit. Bought my first bike 2 days ago and went to this store for a helmet and jacket. They had a great deal on both and the customer service from Rex was great.
