    Chicken Biryani
    Margo C.

I enjoyed a delicious and peaceful dinner here...the wait for the food was long but worth it. This is a good place for a (very) leisurely meal with friends and family. The naan was very fresh and warm, the chicken biryani seasoned just right (ask for the raita to go along with this--it's very good). Seating is ok--not the most comfortable, but not bad. Parking isn't super easy--there are several garages nearby, though. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more dishes!

I'm going to bump it up since this was served in a cafeteria setting at my work; my office's cafeteria opened up a pop up for various local restaurants to come in and today it was Bethesda Curry Kitchen. I opted for the paneer w spinach, butter chicken, chickpeas and basmati rice lunch for $14. Was it the best curry I've had? Far from. But was it decent? Yes. I mean, everything was precooked to the location and warmed up to serve. The rice was well cooked. The butter chicken was a little overcooked with the cubes of breast meat. The spinach still had quite a few spice pods in the mixture that made for exciting bites! The chickpeas, unfortunately, lacked flavor and was more just spicy. Naan was totally forgettable. So overall, a 3 kicked up since it was precooked for who knows how long and would probably be better freshly made.

    Kulfi

I order a lot from this restaurant and it's really good. Unfortunately a bad experience, I ordered kulfi, halfway done eating it and wanted to collect some pistachio pieces to add to my kulfi from the container. When I look down I see this big piece and thought wow I must be lucky to have been blessed with a big chunk of pistachio, to then be surprised upon better lighting and inspection. Bug skin! I have no words. I turn it around to see creature feet. I forced myself to throw up, even if I didn't consume it, I am hoping PRAYING that pieces of it weren't sprayed along as pistachio pieces. Would I order again from this restaurant? Maybe. Maybe not. It was just from this dessert container and their other food is good. Will I be more wary? Yes 100%. I am traumatized by this experience.

Stopped by for some quick takeout at this Bethesda Indian restaurant on a balmy Saturday afternoon. The service was quick and the staff were friendly. The food was just meh. I ordered lamb vindaloo which had a slight kick but not much flavor. The restaurant looked clean but smelled a bit musty.

Always a good meal at Bethesda Curry Kitchen. Rock solid five stars... a Tikka Masala that is to die for! Smooth as silk Mango Lassi. Garlic Naan to knock your socks off. Basmati rice cooked to perfection. Whenever I'm in the Woodmont section of Bethesda I always enjoy BCK!!

Always go for the small family-owned hole in the wall place. Which this is. Their menu is quite appealing; it offers a nice variety including a South Indian selection. Vegan items are marked, and choices are pretty diverse. Among the hard-to-find items are a paneer kathi roll appetizer (basically a tortilla with delicious cheese and sauce inside) and a masala dosa. I really liked this dosa (a fermented lentil-based crepe). It tasted freshly made, was fluffy and aromatic, and large. The potato masala filling was delicious and not overly onion-y as these things often are. This was head and shoulders above the dosa I tried at Malgudi in DC, and a good dosa is hard to come by around here. The sambar that came with the dosa and the mulligatawny soup I ordered separately were fine; salty to be sure and tasty enough, but not the highlight. It seemed to be professionally run; they had fast service and their website is quite functional, which is for some reason a challenge for some restauranteurs. It's also one of the closer places to NIH and Walter Reed and has a lunch buffet. Definitely a place I'm coming back to.

This is my favorite Indian restaurant. Anil's cooking is the best: fresh with wonderful seasoning. His core menu is fantastic and nuanced, from Masala Dosa to anything (salmon, shrimp, chicken) tandoori. Aloo gobi is bright, perfectly spiced and his malai kafta heavenly. Tonight I met the Chef Specials for the first time, his new creations. I selected the gobhi avadhi and it was exceptional, a head of cauliflower with a very light batter beautifully seasoned. Extraordinary! If you are looking for an Indian treat for yourself or a place to bring a crowd, Bethesda Curry Kitchen cannot be beat. Oh, and the warm carrot halwa was a special dessert- loved it!

They also have the best sausage for appetizers oh my they were so delicious. We also had a dessert with baklava not sure what it was but man it was delicious a bit floral but it was mind blowing. Since Indonesian food isn't easy to find in the DMV, I'm really grateful to have Artha Rini so close to home. The restaurant itself is small, casual, and welcoming, and everyone we interacted with was genuinely friendly. I ordered the Soto Ayam, and it was exactly what I was hoping for--warm, comforting, and flavorful without needing to add much of anything. My wife had the Pecel Lele, which was tasty, though the fish was just a little overcooked. My only other minor complaint is that I wish the portions were a bit larger. One thing to note is that the menu leans pretty heavily on coconut milk, which can be tricky for my wife because she has a sulfite allergy. What really impressed us, though, was Artha herself. She patiently answered all of our questions and even told us that if we call ahead, she'll source the one brand of coconut milk that doesn't contain sulfites so she can prepare dishes my wife can safely enjoy. That level of care and customer service is hard to find these days, and it's more than enough reason for us to keep coming back. We're excited to work our way through the rest of the menu.

Unfortunately, the last few visits haven't been great, and tonight was the worst it's ever been. I ordered the matar paneer and it was watery and almost completely flavorless, which is very unlike what I've had there before. The rice was even more disappointing -- it tasted old and was hardened into clumps, almost molded into the shape of the container instead of being individual grains. It was difficult to even break apart. The samosas were good, which was the one bright spot, but the garlic naan barely had any garlic on it. Normally their naan is amazing and very flavorful. I'm really disappointed because this used to be my go-to spot for Indian food. I'm hoping this was just a bad night, but after a few recent experiences that were also lacking in freshness and flavor, I may have to start looking for a new place.

The hot fries was a regular order of fries served with an imbalanced sprinkle sort of dumped on the top layer of fries and not distributed all the way through, which had an extra cost of $2 for the sprinkle of spices, which was an annoying difference in price in my opinion. Solid options for beer and a few ciders. Full bar as well. TVs on the walls only showing sports. You get a table number, order at the counter, pay, and they bring it out to the table number. Casual spot. My immediate thoughts...this place is overpriced. My sausage dog, fries and cider came to $26, plus tax, so about $31 bucks. I repeat, $31 bucks. I honestly felt as though the place was price gauaging. A few other people at my table mentioned the prices and thought they were overpriced. Not much service received, just them bringing the order out. Food was yummy, but I'm not convinced about the value. I have had sausage dogs, hot dogs, fries and beer around the world and I feel this place was overpriced. I like the atmosphere because its a perfect place for casual dining and decent for groups.
