We went here after dinner to have a drink and play pool. The vibe is like a neighborhood bar, very casual. I did not have any food, but looking over the menu, it is typical bar food. Our server was attentive and made sure we were good with our drinks. The pool table was reasonable and the facility was clean from what I've seen. I'll be back to actually try the food. read more

I specifically chose Betty Jane's bar and Grill because I saw perch on the menu when I was searching on line for a local place to eat. My cocktail was good. My perch dinner was awful. The perch looked like hard, thin hockey pucks: deep fried patties made of ground perch with additives instead of fresh perch fillets that one would expect from a Detroit area restaurant. I am originally from Detroit and was in town visiting. What a disappointing first meal in town. I love everything about this place! I had no idea when I first started going here for dinner that I would frequent it as much as possible. The food is amazing, no matter what you get. I've been here a few times and it's a local hangout. I typically don't hang out by my house, but this is a fun little spot. They have a decent menu, staff are great, and I'm a little obsessed with the Gouda and Bacon Macaroni & Cheese bites! OMG.....I think about these little nuggets of gooey yumminess all the time. Open until midnight and dine-in available as well. Dark inside. Smells like smoke inside. First time being in a bar that stinks badly of old stale smoke inside. It's been smoke free bars since 2008 or so too. Can't say I have smelled a bar like this since 2008 either. The smell was giving me a headache. Taking a while to get in our order since we asked for a minute to look at the menu. We had planned to order a spicy chicken nachos, no bacon, Greek salad with grilled chicken, Cobb salad with grilled chicken. This little place opened up a couple years ago and took it over from our neighborhood bar owner, Joe. The new owners have done a really great job on trying to rebrand it and the late afternoon. What a great place! Right when we walked in, we were welcomed by a gorgeous woman at the bar ... her name is Jamie! We ordered our drinks (his a simple bud light and mine was a stoli soda n lime that she made fancy for me). Ok the umbrella made me feel fancy n happy. Jamie had some awesome recommendations from the vast menu items and the Lobster Bisque was as delish as she said it would be. Top-tier for late night bar food. I have to say that this place really isn't my vibe or crowd save for the entrance that feels like you could be walking into an afterhours. I don't want to offend in elaborating more on that, it's just not my scene. I will say that in spite of that there's a lot of little things that surprised me the first time I went here. Lit candles on the tables on a Tuesday night. No upcharge for soda waters with cuts of lemon and lime. The waitress coming near the pool tables to let us know our food is ready. Putting up with my autistic friend's need for a dumb amount of sauces. The staff here are really nice and on their game. I've eaten here a good 5 times in the last month. The onion rings are perfection. The first time I had a corned beef sandwich and couldn't put my finger on what was elevating some bites to an extraordinary balance of flavor. I decided to try the super bizzare quesadilla they have featuring onion straws, bacon, slaw, and sriracha. The first time I ordered it the lady on the phone asked if I was sure I wanted everything on it lol. I took it as is and honestly it really slaps. I've had it a couple more times since. The burgers here are really excellent. The wings slap hard. There's an oddly unique flare to most food and I think that's really where they excel the most. I want more stuff like the quesadilla. I've only had one thing here short of excellent and that was the cheese curds. I'm not going to lie, the cheese curds are honestly bottom tier and more closely resemble okra bites from a you-buy we-fry than a good cheese curd. One bad menu item amidst an otherwise all-star cast is more than excusable. I haven't tried the desserts at all because honestly the price point on them is a bit ridiculous. I think they had like $10 elephant ears that recently got replaced with $9 fried oreos. Really, look at what Blufin in Grosse Pointe is doing for $6 with tempura friend oreos served in a gorgeous oblong heighted bowl with tons of ice cream, whipped cream, and raspberry melba sauce and tell me you've got them $3 beat (You definitely don't, but they're also guilty of price gouging on some of their appetizers though--$17 for a few nicely decorated wonton crackers.) Betty Janes is probably the best bar food in the area. Common staples are almost all uniquely elevated far beyond your expectations and the creative liberties taken are all more so treats than risky experiments having you wish you'd come across more unique concoctions on the menu. There may be a couple more untested items beyond the cheese curds that ought to be omitted, but I've yet to find a lack of quality in anything else. Desserts probably ought to not be so outrageously price gouged, but at least the costs for everything else are pretty fair to what's delivered. read more

Worst $16 Cobb Salad I've ever ordered anywhere. Cheese crumbles, onions, egg and avocado are nearly non-existent. Asked for no tomatoes, which was on the receipt and sure enough, tomatoes were on the salad (but thankfully as sparse as the rest of the ingredients). Previously had the fish at this establishment, which comes in triangles. It's hard to find any restaurant these days that takes pride in it's food and Betty Jane's just isn't worth the effort. read more

I've driven by this place countless times, but never went in. Some friends invited me out to dinner there one evening and they raved about the food. I was pleasantly surprised seeing the sign on the entrance door, stating no one under 21 after 5PM. This is a game changer right off the bat, because some people really don't care to hear other people's kids while they are at a bar, which is a place intended to unwind for adults. The place is large and has various games. They had a good crowd around the time our group (6 ppl) arrived, but we were never bothered or near anyone else, so loving the amount of space they have. Our server was on point and efficient. She took our drink orders right away and then we ordered food shortly after, without her missing a beat. I had one of the mixed drinks from the list that is on every table. I cannot remember what I ordered, but it was a solid drink. Our table ordered various entrees for dinner and i ordered the Philly cheesesteak wrap with potato wedges. I really like the wedges because they were sliced thin and the ratio of fluffy potato to crispy exterior was great. The tater tots were amazing to say the least. perfectly seasoned and cooked. They were crispy, fluffy and addicting. Everyone enjoyed the meals they ordered. Upon receiving our bills, it was great to see they price their drinks affordably! I don't really have any complaints about this establishment and think they are doing a great job. I will be back more often! read more

This place was actually surprisingly good - my expectations were a bit low on walking in, but we grabbed a table and got actually really good service throughout our visit. Regular check-ins, friendly service, helpful staff. The food was perhaps surprisingly good - I was not super hungry and yet ate my whole wrap. My holiday 'mule' cocktail was quite good as well - and a nice complement to the meal. I'll knock them down a point for the fact that there were people that seemed to be smoking there in the bar, which is illegal in all Michigan restaurants and bars - so it's rather crazy to me that no one seemed to care at all. A friend of mine went with me to check out Betty Jane's as we enjoy finding excellent burgers at different places. The reviews for BJ's were really good so we went there to check it out for ourselves. I have to admit they were right on with the burgers! I like mine pink, not semi raw or overdone, which sometimes seems to be hard for restaurants to do, but mine turned out excellent! I had American cheese and sautéed mushrooms lettuce, tomato, and onion (I would skip the lettuce next time as that seemed wimpy) on it. They placed the cheese over the abundance of mushrooms (yum) so that they were not falling out all over the place. I cut the burger in half so that I could eat it but once you pick it up, you just don't set it back down! I also had the tater tots and they did the Cajun seasoning for me and they were very, very good as well, very crispy and full of flavor. The waitresses and the staff were very nice and attentive which is always a plus in my book. It is more of a bar type setting but well worth going if you want to check out a really good burger. read more

I always thought that feeling wanted at a restaurant/bar was something you could only find on tv shows but the staff at Betty Jane's shows excitement when you come in! Whether it's your first visit or your 32nd. It's a great feeling! I always get their burger! But I also suggest trying their take on the chicken nachos and quesadillas. I have yet to be unhappy with something that I've ordered from their menu. If you all haven't visited the lovely staff of Betty Jane's then you must!! Trust me!! On the neighborhood bar scale, totally a 5/5. Super clean space, very open, otherwise, typical of a bar of this type. I'm glad that during busy times, I won't feel like a sardine! The staff was friendly and attentive and the food was hot! Really good place for a bar burger. It was prepared exactly the way it was ordered, and it was sized right. Ever get a burger that's so huge and full of garbage that makes it impossible to eat? Yeah me too... But this was just the right size and awesome! Highly recommend a simple burger w/ American cheese and bacon. Simple, classic and perfectly executed! Decent beer list too... Typical American "domestic" and then a decent craft list. Beer tasted fresh and clean and the glassware was looking good too; again this place is clean! We got the mac & cheese bites for an appetizer which were great. The sodas were bland bar soda which was somewhat to be expected. The fish sandwich was entirely mediocre. The chicken sandwich was incredibly underwhelming. Neither of us ate even half of our sandwiches. The fries were tolerable. We both ordered the " black betty" drinks which were the best part of our meal. They were very tasty. The service was good even though the waitress didn't let us know about an up charge for a side of ranch. The vibe in there was okay, super dark, to the point where you can't even see the menu even at 1pm...but that can be expected with the bar atmosphere as well. Overall, We don't plan on ever coming back, wouldn't recommend it for anything other than a drink, and are highly disappointed that we spent $57 on a meal that we did not at all enjoy. read more

Listen, I didn't have a problem with Joe, he was funny. Now that Joe and Joe Suds is gone.. it's really the same inside! My friend even commented that I seem to be a regular because I walked in and took my usually spot at the bar!! Still the same. I only ordered a shot of tequila. That's my drink of choice. I'm not sure why I thought they would have a decent variety of wine but they only had those little individual bottles you get in a 4 pack from Meijer. (Hey, soon they can go to Kroger and get them there-- insert eye roll--) my shot a step above well and was $8. Expensive for a "well" type tequila. I did ask about their ranch before ordering food.. they make it homemade which gets my vote any-day!! Because of the good ranch I asked for the typical bar food, waffle fries. But wait, they don't have waffle fries anymore, they are sweet potato. Gross. So I got tots. I think I ate maybe like 5/6? So my bill came, I don't remember my total but I'm OCD so I always keep things straight, so my total plus tip was $20. That's one shot and a basket of tots. read more
