The place is interesting with murals and owner had some unique choice of songs in the list which perked interest of the group I did not try any food and coffee was too sweet. This place is probably the largest coffee shop in Macomb County, with several nooks and even a side room that's great for a small group wanting some privacy. There's a stage area, and I have attended several events here. There isn't much in the way of food, more like snacks such as bagels. You may have to wait a while for it, The owner is a bit quirky but friendly. I wish he would hire additional staff, especially for events as he can't do everything in as efficient a manner when he's running food and drinks out to tables, cashing out orders and just juggling too many jobs. One specific area where extra hands might help is cleanliness. Tables aren't cleared and wiped as well as they could be. The decor needs attention as some pieces just look dingy. Apparently you can't just come in to do work... but there's no donate that says that. This was my first time going and I live less than a 3 minute walk from the place, so I decided to give it a try today. Never again. I had JUST ate before going in so I wasn't hungry and didn't have a need of buying something. The person (who I'm assuming is the owner) made some smart remark towards me about my water bottle, purse and backpack while he was helping me with my computer charger because it kept falling out of the wall. He asked did I plan on buying anything (not rude to ask) but I politely declined and told him why (I had just ate). However, then he harped on the fact that because I'm in a cafe I should buy something and he thinks it's rude not to... so I asked him if he wanted me to leave. He kept going asking me to buy something and I asked him again did he want me to leave because I'm not hungry. Mind you, I am LITERALLY the only person in there. If you are an actual coffee drinker then I wouldn't recommend this spot. My vanilla latte was pure syrup and curdled oat milk. The latte wasn't your pretty poured in a mug. I got mine to go and it came in the styrofoam cup with the cafe pictures. I can say the ambiance could probably be enjoyable for other just not for myself. I stopped here to meet with my friend who lives across town from me. I was looking for a spot we could meet really quickly because she's pregnant and I'm going to be her doula. We found this spot in the middle and were going to talk here for a little, maybe like 30 minutes. The owner comes over to us and asks if we want to get anything, my friend says no thanks because the baby doesn't like coffee. I look at the menu but I say no thank you because I honestly didn't want anything. I didn't know that this was a place that didn't allow you to come in and talk/do work unless you buy something. The owner proceeds to rudely kick us out and say we are loitering. The place is run down, dirty, the outside sign is broken, and I almost fell sitting down in the chair because it was falling apart. The dovetail is the perfect third place. A great place with a sense of community, regulars, and an awesome owner. The service varies on what hour you go because it's literally just 1 fella. The interior design alone will keep you occupied and astounded, and the owner has a story for how each little thing came to be. If the art isn't your thing there's literally 100000 different games for you to play at your will. I wanted to try a new coffee shop that was not the traditional corporate style brands. This place seemed interesting, so I went there to try it. I ordered the Almond Latte, and it was just whatever. The primary flavor was the almond syrup. It really did not have that coffee feel to it. There was also no design at the top that is usually given with lattes. The atmosphere here was pretty cool, but I feel that it has a bad location. There is a lot of art and visuals all over the walls. As I walked into the Dovetail for the first time I was greatly pleased by its quaint charm. All of the furniture is mismatched and you even have the choice to lounge on car seats! Ok, this rating may be mostly because of the decor in this place. It's crazy and beautiful. This coffee shop is on a very busy street and could be missed by everyone. This is a cool hangout to just chill. I recently moved over to this area and found out, you never know what's behind closed doors if you don't check it out. One thing I can say is, most places in non descript areas or hole in the walls are the best places to discover something new, great and exciting. So check this place out, if the art work doesn't get you here maybe the different coffees, teas, and cocoa will make you stop by. For me it's they're made in house chocolate chocolate donuts. Oh yeah they also have live bands playing from time to time. It's a really cool and inexpensive way to impress a first date. read more

I attended an event there with my daughter and daughter-in-law. The coffee was adequate, it took 30 minutes for a sandwich to arrive at our table. The set up looks like it is prepared for events with speakers with a stage area, but only one person staffing. If the Baristas goal was to be the surliest staff member ever at an independent coffee shop, he won hands down. When my daughter ordered a sandwich he let his disgust at having to prepare food come through clearly, and she was afraid to ask for any condiments on her sandwich. Everything he prepared was done extremely loud, disrupting the speakers, as if he was disgusted at having to be there with the event presenters and audience. Stopped in one morning in an attempt to support a local small business rather than Starbucks. I regretted my decision after the first sip. The owner told me lattes were the house speciality so I ordered a caramel one. It took him close to 10 mins to make it so I assumed it would be amazing. Unfortunately that was not the case at all. The vibe was nice walking into this place. Definitely a little hipster with eclectic furniture pieces and soft background music. I will say that my experience went downhill from here. The guy working at the counter ignored us from the moment we walked in. My boyfriend and I stood at the counter for almost ten minutes with another patron while the worker continued to make food on the grill. He never glanced our way or stated that he would be right with us. We just awkwardly stood there without being waited on. I would've understood if the place was packed, but there were only three other patrons inside at the time. At this point we just decided to leave. I'm honestly surprised this place is still open. Their espresso lacks depth...the pastries are store bought. The donut I ordered on my most recent visit was stale. The clientele is your standard older or high-school aged Warren resident. Some might call them the alternative crowd. I feel bad for the owner. He seems to do everything here. The few times I've gone in, I've seen his staff sitting around doing homework instead of working. There's so much potential at this location, given its proximity to a large hospital. Medical professionals loves their mocha-frappa-latte-whips. The Starbucks on Woodward near Beaumont get so much business just from Beaumont, especially for the night shift. If this place can get some better management, it has great potential. Otherwise, it will remain a mediocre coffee shop in a sea of sub-par shops in Michigan. read more

If you live in Warren or anywhere near Warren, this cafe is the place to go! I come from the local high school (CLHS) and my friends and I were really distraught due to the fact that there's no cool hangout spots are Warren. BUT THEN, all of that changed when we discovered The Dovetail. This place is one of the coolest cafe's I've been to. Great dude running the counter, SUPER UNEXPECTED AMAZING FOOD and the best strawberry smoothie I've ever had. The wide assortment of drinks is enough to keep me running back for more. This is definitely a must visit if you live anywhere near here. I know this will be for sure our hangout spot! read more

I ordered, there was one guy behind the counter, he was neither exactly friendly or personable. Blasé would be the best way to describe his demeanor... & don't get me wrong... I don't need to be pampered or entertained, but this guy would never make me want to come back here... and that's why I gO to smaller places hoping for genuine or connection. Dirty. Stinky. Unsanitary. Overcharged from posted price BOTH times I went! I first came here a week ago because I was at the community college and wanted some coffee during my break. The owner was the only one working. He overcharged me from the price on the board. I confronted him. After hesitating and saying he changed the prices but didn't update them, he fixed it. The place was completely dead and dark inside at 12pm on a weekday. I liked the coffee and thought I might buy some to make at home so today I brought my boyfriend to see if he liked it too. (He said it's too bitter and his dad said it was too sour so we didn't buy any...but that's not the bad part.) When I came back, it was dead again - 11:30am on Saturday. The worker was sitting outside smoking with an elder man. It stunk so bad. There were ashtrays full of butts. So you would not want to sit outside to enjoy your coffee. He came in and he didn't wash his hands. I was over charged again!!! We ordered 3 double shots of espresso. I was overcharged almost $3 this time. I brought it up and he fixed it and refunded me after arguing about the price. My boyfriend went to the bathroom and came back saying 'Don't go in there. It's horrible. We will go somewhere else.' Well there was another bathroom so I told him I would go. That was DISGUSTING. There was no reason for it to be like that since there were no guests at all. They weren't one bit of busy. The trash was overflowing with paper towels. It was dirty in and around the toilet as well as on the sink - which had toilet paper in it. We quickly left after that. I was so embarrassed that I took my boyfriend and his dad who is visiting from Switzerland there. I will never go back!!!!!! Additionally, an elderly couple came in when we were finishing our espresso and wanted to sit down at a table that was dirty and they had to ask the guy working to wipe it down for them. As others have noted the area is quite spacious, the gal making the drinks was fun to speak with, and the drinks were done well. My only complaint is that the furniture is a little sparse and cheap looking, but I'm sure when they get more visitors they can replace that.
