We were passing through from Cape Cod back to Chicago (After visiting Niagara Falls) and couldn't be happier we landed here! This place was fantastic! We shared the Mediterranean dipping plate for an appetizer and all agreed we each could have had it as our meal it was so good! This place more than pleased two meat eaters and two vegetarians! My friends and I went here for brunch on Sunday. We were there when it opened, so we were seated right away. We requested a seat on the patio and they accommodated us. Our server was prompt and friendly (and refilled waters and coffees often) and the food overall was delicious. I had the biscuits and gravy which was a featured special that morning and my friends had the waffle smothered in banana's foster (which I think was also a special that morning) and Mickey's casserole. Both liked their breakfasts, but noted the waffles were overly sweet. My eggs were not cooked as I requested and the table needed some love (even after we played with the leveler we had to use care not to slosh our drinks), but all in all I would recommend and return next time I'm in Buffalo. read more

OKAY. Where do I begin? My girlfriend and I came for our first Betty's Brunch and we were NOT disappointed. My girlfriend knew exactly what she wanted (Vegan Scramble Tofu Hash) but I didn't know where to begin. The smell in here was crazy good and every dish we saw made our jaws drop. ***I was veryyy hungry*** [Enter our server Leah] I told her what was up and she - without skipping a beat - said "You need the biscuits and gravy." SHE WAS NOT WRONG!! Leah could read my mind and my soul was pleased beyond belief. And big shoutout to the kitchen staff for kicking butt with our meals. The tofu scramble was RIDICULOUS and the biscuits and gravy will be in my dreams for a long, long time. Thanks for the recommendation, Leah!! Quick side note: I asked for a fruit cup in hopes to get it before our food came out but Leah said it might take a while because the kitchen was overwhelmed with orders (and yes, it was very busy). The food and atmosphere is awesome! I came here for a late breakfast on a Friday with a few friends. We put our name in for about a 30 minute wait so we decided to sit at the bar for a drink until our name was called. We were clearly in earshot of the host calling names, but he was so quiet, we didn't hear our name. They then proceeded to give our table away. They came over to notify us to we missed our table, which was weird because they probably should have just come over to tell us that our table was ready in the first place. This should be addressed because a couple next to us at the bar (and also happened to be closer to the host than us) also missed their table within 15 minutes of us. We came here for brunch and there was a pretty decent 45-60min wait. The standing room was tight which is irritating to the customers who had already been seated; not very pleasant for staff either to have to maneuver through a crowded space to deliver food and drinks. The wait is not worth the food quality, I probably wouldn't visit this place for brunch again as our order was wrong and we waited a good while before our food even came out. I recently moved to Buffalo in July 2021 and I heard of Betty's from several locals. I decided to give the place a try I mean it's breakfast how can someone mess that up right? Well Betty's did and left me extremely dissatisfied. I was sat outside the location was beautiful and the waitress was very friendly, the people working are not my issue whatsoever. I decided to order off the specials menu, key word "specials", and got chicken and waffles. Now I've gotten chicken and waffles at several places before as well as in the South and Betty's chicken and waffles are a disgrace to the name. The chicken is clearly not fried fresh or even fried! It's a frozen chicken tender heated in either an oven or microwave! I went to cut into the meat and the skin slid off as a mush. Very much not appetizing and made me feel extremely nauseous. I sent the food back and asked for it to be recooked or get a new plate. The waitress took it back and 5 minutes later I got the exact plate unchanged. The only thing the chef or staff did was put my food under a hot light and instead of fixing the problem they made it worse by overcooking my potatoes on the plate. Now this is a $16 dollar plate of food at a time (6/11/2022) where gas is $5 a gallon. I don't go out very often and this was a special breakfast because my little brother was visiting. After they brought it back I cut into the chicken again and voila mush part 2! After that I told them I was no longer hungry and to please bring the check. And wouldn't you know it Betty's decided that even though my plate was not touched and I was clearly dissatisfied with my meal, I ate maybe 2 pieces of potato and a tiny sliver of chicken, they would charge me the full $16! In total I spent over $42 on a meal I wouldn't eat even if you paid me! I will never recommend this place and I've told several of my friends, coworkers, and family about my visit and they said that I should write this review. I wouldn't have been mad or even upset if they offered me a new breakfast or even took a little off but they didn't care! Either way I still tipped $7 for service that was terrible. You have lost my business forever. PLEASE REVIEW THE LOWER REVIEWS AS THEY ARE FAR MORE ACCURATE AND NOT HINDERED BY THE EXTREME BIAS OF BUFFALO LOCALS. If you are a vegetarian this will be heaven for you. They have plenty of great options and it isn't just your basic meals with the meat taken out. If you eat meat they also have good options. I went for dinner around 6:30. The place was neat and clean, was not too busy as we were seated immediately. I ordered the coconut chicken dinner. We waited a very long time for our food, approximately 45 minutes without any comment from our waitress. I thought the chicken was dry but the skin was done nicely with a good crispiness. Although it was under seasoned and i am not one who likes my food salty or overly spicy. The rice was kind of bland and also under seasoned. I tasted my dates grilled cornbread and we both thought it was extremely dry and lacked flavor. The waitress did apologize at the end for not being as attentive as she normally would be, but offered no reason. The food was hot and did look fresh but overall I was disappointed. read more

I was in town visiting family and we decided to grab breakfast at Betty's after reading so many positive reviews. The location and patio seating were quaint, locals were walking their dogs on the charming street where the restaurant is located. That was the best part of the experience. We ordered shrimp and grits, an omelet, scrambled eggs and grits. We waited almost 40 minutes before we received our food. The scrambled eggs were hard and ice cold, the grits looked like cornbread. The waitress was dismissive and we couldn't help but notice that three tables that arrived after us received their food before we did. I asked for a second cup of tea, the waitress brought hot water and no tea bag. When I asked her for a tea bag she appeared annoyed and didn't return with it for another 15 minutes. She did however, ask us three times if we wanted hot sauce snidely. I suppose she assumed that because we're African-American we're obligated to consume hot sauce. It was one of the worst microaggressions that I've experienced in a very long time. I really should have asked to speak with a manager, but I had a plane to catch and didn't have time. Came here with my daughter to celebrate her birthday, had reservations but was completely ignored by the hostess, listened to her take many phone orders for takeout, watched her also make multiple drinks as we stood there waiting with out being acknowledged when we walked out a half hour later and went to another restaurant. I understand with all that is going and staffing may not if been up to the task for a Saturday night but not even any eye contact or acknowledgment from the hostess is unacceptable. So... I really like sitting on this patio and missed it all winter. They have really good waffles. I have been in the house for 4 months and went out for the first time since Quarantine. The restaurant itself did NOT follow the guidelines as far as we were concerned. As soon as we walked in there was a (nice) lady at the bar serving Mimosa's. She literally took her BARE hands and put the fruit on the glass and proceeded to take her bare hands to strain the cherry juice from the cherries she put in the drink! Wow !! We were seated on the patio. They were still putting ketchup bottles on the table (not individual packets) etc. There were no paper menu's and the menu's they did give us were not being wiped down. We wore masks when we walked in. Sat down and since they did not disinfect things as they were supposed to I went to my car to get wipes to wipe things down. I was on the outside patio and forgot to put my mask on.. ( I did NOT walk through the restaurant) and the waiter said to me "the next time you get up from your table you must wear a mask".. ok no problem.. my mistake. I WAS outside.. but I get it. I ordered decaf coffee. I always ask to make sure it's decaf since I have a heart condition. No harm done..just have to be sure. I asked "This is decaf right?" he rudely said "You asked for decaf so that's what it is". WHY ? Can't you just say "Yes". I asked for a straw also and never got that and I didn't speak to him that way!!! I am sorry to say I am disappointed today... I was so looking forward to going here after a very long winter.. I am hoping they can fix things so i can enjoy my visit next time especially when I'm spending $26.00 for breakfast (eggs and a waffle?) ... EVERYONE needs to take the right precautions. I have been to Betty's many, many, times and have never been disappointed. As a vegetarian, it is quite difficult to find restaurants that have more than a couple of options for me on the menu. I can only eat so many portabello sandwiches and pasta primaveras people! At Betty's, they always have a vegetarian special running AND a vegetarian soup du jour. There are also many options available on their regular menu (Roasted Vegetable Risotto and Tofu Hash are some favorites of mine) , which is updated seasonally. Betty's sources as many of their ingredients locally and you can tell that the chef and the staff take pride in what they are serving. You're eating out, yet enjoying a comforting home-cooked meal. The new addition to the restaurant is beautiful, they now have a bar and an area for late night snacks on the weekends. I can't wait to try out these new additions to the menu! read more

It was a beautifully sunny Sunday morning in downtown Buffalo when my girlfriend and I decided to head down to Betty's for brunch. What started as a nice morning would end with 2 disgruntled, never-to-return customers. Chapter 1: As we entered the restaurant, we put in our names. Table for 2 with a 20-30 minute wait. After waiting patiently for about 40 minutes (and watching others who had come in after us be seated), I got up from the waiting area to find that our name had been crossed off the list and never called. When I told the hostess, she asked if we had been outside when she called us, but we were not and she never called our name. She seated us at a cold table by the door, surrounded by waiting potential customers . Fine, crisis averted, right? WRONG. We ordered coffees only to wait another 5 minutes to receive some cream. After waiting so long to be seated we had already decided on our order, but after 10 more minutes of waiting for a server to show we decided to leave the table and move to the bar where there were 2 open seats. Chapter 2: Once we sat at the bar our order was finally taken, only to come back and say they were out of the pork hash that I wanted. Maybe they would have still had it if we hadn't been skipped when being seated and had been greeted by a server. After waiting another 40 minutes to receive our breakfast, the dishes came out lackluster at best. My substitute breakfast burger topped with a fried egg came out well-done when I ordered medium-rare. No wonder it took so long. The side of sausage was forgotten and then brought out burnt and lacking any kinda of flavor. The eggs benedict came out ok, but I expect a little more service from a place that charges $11 for it. Chapter 3: As we patiently waited (again) for our bill, our plates were not cleared. We sat as others were happily taken care of before we finally received our bill. At this point, I would like to mention that both my girlfriend and I have served in countless restaurants and NEVER leave less than 20% tip on a check, but today I became the 15 percent tipper I have learned to loathe (and no one in that place even deserved that). Sorry to say Betty's, but you blew it. We live right around the corner and would have become frequent customers if the experience was right. Never again Betty's, never again. read more

My parents were visiting Buffalo for the weekend so I thought I'd bring them to Betty's. It was a tense brunch because of the disappointing food. Eggs were over cooked and not seasoned at all, potatoes were crumbly on the inside and leathery on the outside from being reheated countless times, and everything was cold. Food wasn't horrible but it was the worst service I've ever had in Buffalo. The hostess did not even acknowledge us and sat other parties that she knew before us. At one point she told us she cannot seat our party without everyone being there and we were all there and she replied "thanks for letting me know" in a very rude way. I'm still zinging from my Sunday brunch from a couple of weeks ago. Upon arrival, we were squeezed into a small table on the inside while others waited for outdoor seating. Since neither of us were picky, it seemed perfect to just sit down and start with a mimosa and bellini as quickly as possible :) Our waitress was friendly and didn't mind as we missed looking at the menu at all in favor of conversation. I'm forgetting what my companion got in his brunch adventure, but due to having experience in classic southern food (having gone to school in Memphis), he recommended that I get the fried green tomato benedict. Oh my word, was it delicious. It was one of their specials they had for the day, but it was so good that I've been craving it ever since. Brunch prices, especially for alcoholic beverages, are a little pricey. But they do brunch right. Beautiful mimosas which are guaranteed to induce subsequent random cravings throughout your day and random bouts of desire to drink orange juice hoping it's spiked.
