Went for a family function to Betty's. There was a fixed selection with an open bar for beer and wine. The service was attentive, fast and friendly. Lisa in particular always had a smile and everyone left pleased. We ordered the fish and chips, which was a bit i consistent from one plate to the next in terms of cook and size. Betty's is kind of on the fringes of how far from home I'm normally willing to go for a meal. We've never gone on our own; only ever with a group. I have to say that it's pretty much perfect for groups: I think they have some kind of space warp machine working in the back somewhere, because there seem to be way more private dining rooms than should be able to fit onto that lot (and I still don't know where the actual kitchen is). There also seems to be an infinite number of washrooms tucked away in various nooks, so nobody needs to suffer from... pressure. The service is always friendly, the prices aren't outrageous, and the decor is, well, unoffensive. It doesn't really seem to have a particular visual theme. It's decorated like a hotel room or somebody's living room. Not rustic, not trendy, just kind of comfortable and vaguely familiar, if that makes any sense. The food is... fine. To my taste, it's not as good as Green Acres, but definitely better than the Barrel. I've never heard any complaints about the food from any of the people I've been with when eating there, but, well, I can't just bring myself to rave about it, either. This place seems like a place the locals frequent so we decided to try it out and we were not disappointed! The queue was pretty long but it went by quickly and the staff was super friendly! I had the famous fish and chips - the fish was battered and fried to perfection and the chips were regular unsalted fries. We ate breakfast there if you could call it that. We got the worst meal. There was some orange goo on top that was supposed to be biscuit gravy. It wasn't edible. Wish I had ordered scrambled eggs and sausage... that is hard to mess up but we paid over 10$ each for crap on a plate .The waitress couldn't even give a 2nd cup of coffee to my husband. Wish we had eaten anywhere, but there. Parking was a nightmare. I really wish there was something redeemable about it, but there just wasn't ! Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. A little more out of the way than so many places, but worth the extra 7 minute drive. The staff were so nice and very accommodating. We arrived just after 10 am, and were promptly seated. I had the breakfast special with peameal bacon and my husband was able to order a club sandwich even though they weren't serving lunch yet. The food was really good. Mine was standard but well cooked, and my husbands sandwich was great. They cook the turkey in house and thinly slice it. It's no wonder why it's been open for over 50 years when they show that kind of care when preparing dishes. We would highly recommend taking the time to drive out and support this local place. Happened upon this restaurant after 7 years living in St. Catharines. By far the best food in the area for this style of restaurant.every meal I have had has been exceptional for taste and portion not to mention the price is more reasonable than most plus they serve the best homemade pie. Stopped here as part of our tour. We were escorted into a little area, away from the restaurant. The servers were gruff and not pleasant. You were afraid to ask for anything. If you are trying to drum up more business to get tour buses in and others, you probably shouldn't put your worst waitress in the mix. As soon as the pie was served, no one could be found to ask for more tea, coffee, or a take out box. We were given three choices on the tour; fish fry, beef, or chicken. I had the chicken. It was moist and delicious. It was served with mixed veggies, mashed potatoes and gravy, and a roll. All were delicious. Pie went around and there were numerous choices. I went with the chocolate pie, which was also very good. The food was good, I just wish the service matched. If there was just a little more pleasantries from the staff, there would have been more stars. There was one server who was nice. She kept coming around with tea and coffee. I'm surprised the gustapo server wasn't ordering the nice one around to stop being nice to the tourists. read more

We hadn't been here for over 20 years but we were in the neighborhood. We weren't disappointed. Although they don't have their famous buffet any more, our meal selections did not disappoint. I had the liver & onions & bacon which came with mashed potatoes, gravy and mixed vegetables ( mostly green & yellow beans & baby carrots). The extremely generous portion of beef liver was the most tender I have had in a long time. The mashed potatoes & gravy were also delicious but the vegetables were too al-dente for my liking. My wife's fish and chips were the best she's had - she kept raving about the lightness of the coating and the fries which tasted like "real potatoes". While at Niagara Falls for our 1 year anniversary, we ran into some people that had rave reviews for this place & the fish & chips platter. We were craving seafood so we made our way, very close to the falls (their directions helped). Very good size venue & apparently they host events. No long wait time to be seated or wait to order. Server was very friendly & welcoming. We both ordered fish. I had mashed potatoes & slaw with mine. We were both pleased with deliciousness!! Also loved the roll muffin that proceeded meal. + good food, lots of seating - poor service, worlds smallest tarter sauce I went here last night for my mother's birthday. They only take reservations for parties of 8 or more. The decor in here is nice and it's not that noisy. Lots of senior's here, which means good food at reasonable prices. Most of us ordered the classic fish and chips, priced at just over $12. The fish was haddock and tasted really good with the batter not being too heavy and the fries were lightly colored and cooked perfectly. One strange thing is that the tarter sauce comes in the worlds smallest container. I'm not sure what they were thinking. Is tarter sauce really that pricey? Sad. Our waitress was not the best at serving us. The food served was not hot. I asked her for extra napkins for the 4 of us, she brings 2 napkins. My sister asked her for more water, the waitress fills her glass, and with my glass sitting almost empty beside it, doesn't even ask if I would like more water. We had to wait a long time for things and the waitress would disappear for long periods of time. Not only the waitress, but I found the other staff at this place not being the friendliest. I'm not sure why they are that way, but it just doesn't feel like a comfortable happy place. I have mixed feelings about going here. Worst experience ever! My kids had shards of glass in their glass bottles! Waitress did nothing! Manager and owner Joe who refused to provide his contact information offered no sympathy, was rude and threatening. Visited this restaurant as part of a tour group on April 30, 2023. We were seated in the back of this large restaurant. We had a buffet breakfast. Everything was delicious! While visiting Niagara Falls this is a must. Excellent service and even better Pecan pie (no pic I tore it up). The fries were so good.... too. Don't get me started...once I added some salt they were good to go and about ate them all. The portion was hige though. I also had the Haddock sandwich. Been a patron of this fine establishment for years. Literally the best fish and chips in Niagara!

I was attracted to this eating establishment by its sharp external appearance and beautiful gardens. Inside in seemed like an older multi-room family-style eatery rather than the elegant restaurant I thought it looked like it would be. I was seated quickly for a late supper but then left to wonder if I had been forgotten in a corner. I can wait patiently with a simple glass of water after a long parching day of touring. I was thinking about walking out any second. Eventually smiling Madeleine greeted me with a strong French accent. Afraid of not getting her twice, I ordered my drink AND entree. She recommended the specialty "fish and chips". She zipped into action quickly. The water came (only concern was it was delivered in a foggy glass that looked like it could not "come clean"). I ordered a Canadian pinot grigio that was VERY delicious. She delivered a warm roll and room temp cole slaw. (I prefer ice cold cole slaw but it was okay.) The entree was the small portion haddock which was very large AND cooked to perfection along with "real" mashed potatoes as my tater preference. This was a filling $10 meal. It was sweet that she said, "God bless your food, enjoy your dinner" as she left. I've never had a waitress say grade before! I was wishing I had room for the chocolate meringue pie I saw another table sharing. It was endearing to see the many repeat customers (and many elderly) interacting with the servers like family. This is a worthy eating establishment. The interior needed updating and I had a rocky start--so the solid "3" is good representation. The food experience was a "4". read more

Betty's restaurant is apparently known for their fish and chips which I did not order. The menu consists of breakfast til 2pm with the usual breakfast items including eggs, omelettes, waffles, and pancakes or French toast. Sandwiches and burgers are also on the menu along with dinner choices which include a seafood platter, shrimp dinner, scallop dinner, chicken or veal parmigiana, and roast beef dinner. We attended during dinner time and upon being seated very promptly we got a basket of complimentary bread which tasted very good and fresh. I ordered the chicken parmigiana which was great. Portions were also generous. My wife ordered the infamous fish and chips and found it well deserving of their claim. Overall we were quite pleased with the food and service. Our server was phenomenal. She was prompt and went above and beyond by bringing us coloring books to settle our disruptive kids so we could enjoy our meals. This place may not be right down town in the Clifton district But the prices were very reasonable and worth the 20 min drive from our hotel. For dessert we tried the lemon meringue pie which, when it came, was a over generous piece. Overall for 4 people, our bill totalled just a little over $50. Highly recommended. First and foremost Charlene exemplifies customer service. We recently had our dads 80th birthday party here and arranged it long distance from Vancouver. When we arrived - we were met with a smiling happy team lead by Charlene - essentially our ambassador for the evening - ensuring that everything went smoothly. The room that we had was nicely, simply decorated with warm wood and earthy tones. The food we selected was a nice assortment of comfort foods including pierogies for our dad . All the food was delicious - and many commented on how good the fish was. They had a full bar for those who wanted to partake. Above and beyond everything - the service was truly exceptional - friendly, authentic, and invested in making our day so special. We had an amazing dinner tonight at Betty's. They were expecting our bus of 30 Girl Guides from Alberta, we had a choice of 3 meals that we pre ordered. Fish and chips, Roast Beef or Chicken Parmigiana, all meals were delicious. We started the meal with a lovely green salad and Betty's buns and finished the meal with a choice of cream or apple pie! Being a Brit and having more than a glancing interest in fish and chips. The statement of "Best fish & chips in town" sounded like it needed checking out. Betty's was a short (5 minute) drive from our over night accommodation (review to follow) and upon pulling into the car park we noticed a big yellow school bus. Not the first thing to instil confidence that there may not be gaggles of rowdy children inside, but the school group left as we parked. We were acknowledged by the host and shown to our table. The 10 shrimp platter to start (shared) was a nice way to start the meal and build up to the fish main course. Bread and butter were on the table, that goes without saying, fresh and warm. There it was, like a glowing plate of heaven, light battered fresh flaky fish with more than enough chips, fried to perfection and not oily. Well, that little lot didn't hang around was promptly washed down with a nice pint of beer. The starter and main were too much and we therefore didn't get to try the desserts, but they did look good. Only real issue, the restaurant could do with a little dusting, but the service being nice and friendly outweighs that. Will definitely be returning for more fish and chips. As for the claim of the best, we only tried here but think the other restaurants will have to go some to beat Betty's. read more

If you are looking for a good home cooked meal Betty's is for you. This large, well staffed and clean restaurant has a kitchen full of good old fashioned cooks that make everyday food fantastic. I had baked chicken so tender and tasty that made me lick my fingers. Add real mashed potatoes and gravy plus mixed green beans and it felt like Sunday after church at grandmas. We came by for brunch on a Wednesday. It was pretty empty which wasn't surprising. It was definitely a nice change from the more touristy areas of Niagara. The food was pretty good, I got Betty's Omelet with everything (mushroom, ham, and cheese). The home fries were okay but nothing special. Betty's is a far cry from the bland tasting chain restaurants that litter Niagara Falls. This is a family owned place - one of its kind. My husband and I only stayed one night in Niagara Falls and didn't do research ahead of time in terms of where we wanted to eat. But I clearly did not want East Side Marios, TGIF's, etc. We basically did a quick yelp search and found out about this place. We also made it half an hour before closing time so that was a win! Food: There is a lot of fish on the menu, including a lot of healthy options. I ordered the grilled halibut and husband ordered the seafood platter. I opted for veggies and he went with fries. Everything was really well cooked and delicious. I loved the breading on the fish - it had the perfect amount of crunch and didn't taste oily. The dinner rolls were also delicious spread with a layer of butter. Nice hearty portions. We had enough leftovers to take back with us to the hotel. Ambiance: Nice, comfy place. Lots of seating options even though people were still coming through the doors a few minutes before closing. Service: One downfall was the amount of waiting we did for our food. The restaurant was emptying out and it took around 15-20 minutes for us to receive our meal. A bit long considering how there were not too many people. This is why I was oscillating between 3.5 and 4 stars (so closest was 4 :P) Overall: A positive experience because the server was so nice! So this was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. I didn't know much about the restaurant. I didn't have very high expectations.. When we arrived (I was part of a very large about 50 party group) we were seated promptly. The main waitress, a younger waitress seemed to be ok. The older very gruff waitress was a complete turn off. I felt like I was troubling her each time I asked for something.. So they forgot to serve my 4 year old.. So my mom gave her the one she had while we waited.. And waited.. The food took forever to come out (to all tables). We started eating probably 15-20 minutes after the guests who received their food earlier did.. The fish and chips.. Well the fish was flavorless and greasy. Coleslaw was vile.. The fries were probably the best part of the meal (real fresh cut )but needed salt. The salad was also fresh .. These 2 reasons are the only reason this place is being given more than one star. For the food to be so mediocre, the service should have been stellar and it was so less than even acceptable. We were so disgusted with everything that we just wanted to leave. I went here on a bus tour around Niagara falls and since they claimed that they had the best fish and chips around, I knew what I would order. Now to the food, the fish was wayyyy to greasy, I had a stomach ache afterwards! It also came with very wet and flavorless Cole slaw which wasn't a delight at all!! The chips, they were no better then burger king's, I would actually rather go to burger king!! The salad was good with a nice vinagrette and some romaine lettuce (would be 1 star otherwise) the final side dish there was steamed vegetables which were overcooked, had no flavor, and mushy. Asked for two "Hadock and chips" to take out. And was assured that this would be Hadock. And was charged $27.00. I did not mind the price, if I was getting what I asked for.
