They know the cars so well and have fixed certain items, like my power rear windows, that had flummoxed multiple other mechanics who also had charged me much more. Shant and his son are always super friendly and detailed in what needs to be done with my car and how much it will cost. Shant even helped me prioritize fixes so I could spread the cost out over time. My car runs probably better than it did when new. The rudeness and unethical conduct of Beverly Laurel Automotive's owner named Shant, is shocking. I hardly know where to start. The rating on Yelp is unfathomable, so I do not believe it's a result of customer reviews. (Perhaps due to paid placement?). I will say that after several visits to this shop, I now realize the owner only wants to deal with customers, who exhibit having plenty of disposable income. This is the owner's M-O. I met several well-heeled patrons there, who haven't a care for the over-pricing. His favored customers have older Mercedes, as a fun, extra sports car. On my first visit, he complained about his $13,000 rent, as if it was an excuse to gouge customers. He seemed in a very bad mood. There was no expensive repair necessary, so he was discourage that his mechanics do the work. In the process, he changed his explanation about the necessary repair several times. His final discouragement was that he'd not be able to get to it for 4 weeks, I feel, just to get me to leave, so I did. The experience was extremely poor. About 5 years later, when I was finding it hard to find someone willing to work on my Mercedes top, so I figured I better to go a Mercedes specialist. I thought "ok, maybe it was just a bad experience, so give him another try," so I reluctantly stopped back in the shop. He was busy, so I agreed to wait a week for a diagnostic appointment. I verified the appointment by phone the day before and showed up on time. Upon arrival, it was very hard to get his attention, even though I stood patiently waiting to speak with him for 25 minutes and explained I had an appointment. He said he had no record of the appointment, but I was considerate, because I felt that could happen to anyone. Then he put me off another 2-3 weeks, still just to do a diagnostic. I waited and showed up for the 3rd time, when he said he filled the hydraulic fluid and charged me to do so. I later learned through YouTube videos that the level it was at, was already full as indicated by a line anyone can see on the tank, so my money completely wasted. He just wanted an easy fix, with no diagnostics. Owner Shant explained that the fluid all over the floor and him was the result of him trying to put fluid in, because he didn't use the hose properly. He was clearly annoyed. I paid and drove out. I returned shortly after, when the top did not work. At this point I'd done a lot of online research. By then, I was quite educated about how these tops worked. He complained about having to do diagnostics again. In an effort to save him some trouble, I asked if he was open to my emailing him links of what I believed to be the problem, in an attempt to save him time. He said send it, but ultimately refused to look at them and got angry when I reminded him to he said to send them. We made another appointment. I showed up on time again and just as someone was leaving the shop very angry. Shant told them to "Go f**k themselves," which was a big red flag to me. He told me he didn't want to deal with it. I mentioned that he could have told me that 4 weeks ago."Ok leave it, I'll look at it," he finally said to me. When I did not receive a call back at the promised time, I called him. He impatiently blurted, "Come pick it up!" with no explanation. I asked if it was fixed and he said, "Yes!," but something was fishy in the way he was talking to me. I was accustomed to his brusque manner, but there was something else behind it. Upon arrival, I noticed that suspiciously there were no mechanics at all in the shop. I asked to see it working, because I didn't trust him. After swearing he "got it to go up and down 10 times"-- guess what-- it didn't work. He just wanted me to drive out, shouting, "Get it out of here. I need the space." I asked him what he tried and he said he put some lube in. I saw it all over the side of the panel, so I asked, "Why didn't you even take the panel off? What would make you think just shooting lube in the side would work? You agreed to look at the videos, why do you refuse to do so?" Then he starts getting furious, because his negligence cannot be denied. I suppose I was just another customer exposing him. Then he proceeds to scream at me. Ultimately, the fix was described in one of the Youtube videos. I had to move 2 clips along a metal cable under the front panel about 3/8". That was it. Yes, that simple. Please avoid this shop at all costs. The owner even abuses his son, who seems like a nice man, but it's terribly clear, he's quite sadly under the thumb of his father. I have a 1991 Mercedes 300E that I have owned for 22 years. The body is still in great condition, but the car has had intermittent problems because of the car's age. One morning, 'Champagne'(My family's nickname) would not start. I towed 'Champagne to Beverly Laurel Automotive(At the recommendation of my other mechanic who was no longer servicing older Mercedes). I am so glad that I did. Kevin took care of me and 'Champagne' with the car only needing some minor adjustments.
