I didn't know there are so many different kinds of keys. Apparently, the key I wanted to have copied isn't very common so the worker had a difficult time finding the right key. After 10 minutes of searching, he found it! I got 2 key copied for $4. If I went to Home Depot, I don't think they would've be able to make a copy. I also wanted my car key battery changed but he couldn't get the screw out and also stripped the screw. I yelped around and made few calls to find out what the average lockout service costs. If you are reading this, you are probably aware that they aren't cheap and some even charge you extra depends on the distance that they have to travel. My main decision was driven by his availability and the cost. It was about 65% cheaper than other locksmiths that I've called. We all want to pay less. He gave me 20 minutes estimates. His location was about 2 miles away, about 10 minutes if you drive. He arrived within 15 minutes and quickly unlocked my door. The whole process took less than 3 minutes. I was completely satisfied. So, being the handy man I suppose myself to be, I tried to install a locking door knob set into a closet door here at home. My home is too old for that kind of simplicity, the old door knob is some rare, undersized thing which cannot be replaced by today's sized knobs. I call Beverly Locksmith and the dude shows up on a Sunday, takes my new doorknob and installs it in like 10 minutes. It's a clean job and now my door locks. I don't know what this was supposed to cost, I budgeted $100 and paid under that. A slight blemish might be that he did not provide me with an estimate, even after a request or two. If you live in DTLA, keep in mind he will make you pay for him to park which is understandable, but I would have like to be warned. So glad my neighbor gave me the number to Beverly Locksmith. We have been having a hard time unlocking the top lock of our front door and I had one task to find a locksmith to fix the door while my aunt was on vacation. What a nice guy. I recently lost all my mail keys and needed someone to replace the lock for the mailbox and give me plenty of new keys. I called Jin and he arrived 20 minutes later, installed the lock in three minutes, and gave me two keys right then. I asked for three more and he said that he was out of blanks in his truck, but if I could stop by his shop later he would give them to me then. I had no problem doing this as I was heading that direction in the next hour anyway. When I came over, he greeted me with a warm smile and gave me an extra, fourth key free of charge. I paid $54 in total for the whole shebang and it was all extremely fast and efficient. Also, he was the first locksmith in my area to actually pick up the phone :-P My keys are a wee bit sticky, but they open my mail box with ease and I'm sure they'll soften up in no time. Mr. Jin is a true professional and a craftsman. I called him about fixing our WiFi door lock, and he not only arrived quickly, but took it upon himself to swap out the component in the opposite door that had been poorly installed by the last locksmith (from a different company). Impressed, I called him back the next day to try to fix a wrought iron yard gate that had become so warped that it did not close, and whose lock was broken. Other vendors had refused to do the job, telling me it could only be done by a wrought iron specialist. Unfazed, Mr. Jin got some tools out of his truck, shaved the door down, installed the new lock (even color matching it), and it works beautifully. After having dealt with multiple well-intentioned vendors who ultimately couldn't get the job done, it was remarkable to see an expert just breeze through and do amazing work, making it look easy (which it isn't), and all with an evident sense of both pride and humility. I just bought my first home and I was hoping that everything after the purchase would go smoothly. It started with getting the locks changed.
