This locksmith is within a mile of my place so whenever I locked myself out or needed to replace my mailbox after losing the keys (you can see that losing keys is the story of my life), I called this place for a price quote. I think I used this service once but since then every time I ask for a price quote, it is incredibly high compared to what I end up actually going with from other people. I believe this place has quoted me $75 and above for a house lockout and also for a mailbox change. Their transit cost is the cost of less than 2 miles, which is far less than $1 even on the most gas-guzzling car. The time it takes to get to and from my place is also less than 10 min. And the time it takes to actually pick a lock or replace a lock has never taken more than 30 minutes and has often taken 15 or less. So the pay rate he's asking for is in the ballpark of $110 an hour... as a conservative estimate. I can easily find another place located nearby that will charge $50 instead. I'm for high pay for good work but I'm not super fond of businesses that gouge customers. I've think I've even visited this place in person to see about a garage remote. I got a remote for $35 somewhere, but this place was asking for, what? $50??? I actually feel kind of offended and taken advantage of. Other places are way more reasonable. Okay fine, in response to the owner below, I am willing to believe that the $50 remote was not here! The rest remains true. The owner sent me a message explaining he asked for $75 for a mailbox replacement, confirming what I said. I got it done for $50 from elsewhere. Multiple other places were willing to do it for $50 actually. My point is that this place charges considerably more than some other places in the area. For the time I did use this place though, my locksmith was fast to arrive and very professional, but so are all the locksmiths I've used from this area, so unless you speak Korean (maybe that helps? I am not sure), I suggest you look elsewhere (and surely, if you speak Korean, you can still get a good deal elsewhere). read more

My mom locked us out. Again. No joke. So after trying to pick the lock with a credit card, pick, screwdriver, etc., I gave up and called Mr. Jin to the rescue. He is seriously the most boisterously happy man ever! My Door didnt scrape the floor before he "fixed it". He replaced some screws from a collection of old screws and said it was the best he could do. My door scrapes the bottom of the floor now. He then proceeded to tell me that it was better for the door to scrape the door incase of an earthquake. LOL. Then he said the door scrapped the floor before he touched it. I lost one of my car key for my 2011 4-runner and happened to pass by Beverly Locksmith. Toyota dealer quoted me $200 for the alarm/car key plus $150 for programming. Mr. Jin the owner quoted me $120.00 for everything. He ordered the key and a week later I came back to have it programmed. Can I give -10 stars? I call him and ask him how much will be a key for Toyota Corolla 2014 make. He tells me from phone 130$. I ask him if I can come at 5 to make it he says it is ok. So I drive 50mins to come here he sees my key and after checking catalogue says it won't be 130$ but 140$ and will take one week for key to arrive. I say what the heck it's not big deal for 10$ let's do it. He tells me key is normally over 200$ so I should be happy. Then I do my big mistake. I tell him that at toyota they quoted me 380$ for this key. So as I walk back in my car he calls me again and decides he could charge me more for my car key. I go there and he tells me he checked on internet and my car key is 40$ more-180$, not 140$. At that point I lost all patience with his fleecing attempts and asked for my 50$ deposit back. He even tried to give me 40$ in cash instead of 50$. Even if I assume it was an honest mistake and somehow magically the generic key that is 40$ on amazon cost that more, a good businessman would rather reduce profit than quoe an false price on a customer-TWICE. I'd rather ride a bike for rest of my life than give my money to "businessmen" like this. read more

Jin is an experience locksmith who's been in the business quite awhile, however the cost of service was 3X the customary amount, but $15 for a single plain copy is excessive. I've visited and called competitors, all confirmed what I thought the typical price would be (at the most $5). It's great that he's available 24/7 and he's able to travel. He is a veteran of his craft, the copy I was given works, which I CAN'T say to all the smiths I had before. I finally did it: locked myself out of my apartment. I went to Yelp, found Jin and Beverly Locksmith, and just 15 minutes and $80 later, all was right in my evening. It was the knob lock type, no deadbolt. He picked it in seconds. He then duplicated my key in seconds in his truck, free of charge. He also drove me to the nearest ATM to grab cash, sparing me the credit card fee (9%). I learned a bit about his story as a locksmith in LA and came away feeling far less traumatized than expected. Just got done with finally getting back inside my place. As you know, being locked out is no fun, and finding the right person for the right price is very hard. Luckily, I found Beverly on Yelp and he arrived in 10 mins. I'm currently staying Koreatown, so glad to have BLS nearby. The normal price in this evening will run you roughly $70-80, but I negotiated for $60 because that's all I had on me. I tipped an additional $5 upon finding more money at home.
