We made a reservation a few days prior and had the $75 afternoon tea. It was a great experience to catch up with girlfriends and to people watch. We stayed there for possibly three hours! The restrooms were convenient and clean. The restaurant was packed and busy. We had an accommodation for a pregnancy and they did not seem familiar with how to adjust the food accordingly. Otherwise it was an excellent experience. They also really do not like it when you bring disposable cups with water into the establishment! They tried twice to throw mine out

I love eating at the bar the last few times I've been there. The service and food is still continuously wonderful. They've made a little change in management, which definitely has been to the better benefit of the restaurant! Guy who works there is absolutely wonderful at the front of the house. Always smiling and pleasant.

Visited in 2022. Service was above average, but I'm not totally sure it justified the price point. I've since realized that sometimes afternoon tea just isn't quite my cup of tea (pun intended), though I'll admit the sandwiches were actually really good. Overall, a lovely experience and a classic NYC moment, just not something I'd personally go out of my way to repeat.

We really enjoyed high tea at BG Restaurant. The tea itself was wonderful and the presentation was lovely. The tea sandwiches were excellent and fresh, and the desserts were delicious. That said, the offerings felt a little light for the price. The tea selection could be broader and while the desserts were great, I wished they were a bit more generous with the portions. Overall, it is a beautiful spot for tea in the city and worth a visit, just know you may leave wanting a little more.

I enjoyed the experience, but I definitely had better before First, I got the Nuit À Versailles, and the tea was okay. I felt like I couldn't taste the flavor as much. Second, the egg sandwiches and deviled egg were okay; I wasn't fully satisfied. The smoked salmon was good tho! I loved the scones, so good! The desserts were okay. Overall, the high tea experience was okay. It was expensive, so I don't think it's worth it. I wouldn't do the high tea here again but it's worth trying once!

Visited BG, the restaurant on the 7th floor of Bergdorf Goodman, with a friend on the Monday of a long weekend. We made a reservation the day before, and the restaurant was very busy, and we wouldn't have been seated quickly (or at all) without one. We were seated near the bar and kitchen, in chic shell-like chairs with a lovely view of Central Park and The Plaza. The tableware and glassware were beautiful, and our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and made great recommendations. The meal started with complimentary focaccia and butter, enjoyable, though not served warm. For appetizers, we shared the Mushroom Tart with raspberry jam ($28) and Poached Pear and Prosciutto Salad ($32). Both were fine, though a bit underwhelming and definitely overpriced for what they were. The tart was very mushroom-forward but not hot, and the salad was just okay. For mains, I had the Roasted Chicken Salad ($36) and my friend ordered the Herb-Crusted Chilean Sea Bass with Shrimp Risotto ($48). My chicken salad was fresh and generously portioned but lacking in flavor. The sea bass, was excellent, perfectly cooked and beautifully paired with the saffron beurre blanc, though the shrimp risotto was just average. I also enjoyed the tea service. We ended with desserts: the Pumpkin Cheesecake was outstanding, and the Pear Cranberry Cobbler was also very good. Overall, the experience was enjoyable, especially thanks to the excellent service and elegant atmosphere. That said, only parts of the meal truly stood out, and the prices are steep. For the cost, you could easily find a more exceptional lunch elsewhere. Still, it's a quintessential New York experience and great for people-watching.

This place is beautiful! I felt like a step back in time. The service was incredible. My husband took me for afternoon tea for a major milestone birthday. The server was nice enough to bring me a pillow to put behind me, the birdcage seats are pretty but without the pillow uncomfortable. Long story short something must have been on the pillow and got all over my pants. I actually walked around not noticing until I came to a mirror on a different floor I had a whole day ahead and a Broadway play. The afternoon tea was good the sandwiches could have been more. Compared to other afternoon tea it's small portion of sandwich. The biscuits are the Best!! I just wish I would have gotten an apology or something for my pants looking like I had poop, probably chocolate, it wasn't from my food because that leg was no where near. The special birthday chocolate mousse cake with a chocolate ganache was incredibly and appreciated. Good thing I was near lots of places that sell parts.

Shout out to my waitress Maya!!!!! The friendliness was the cherry on top on just an overall experience. She answered all my questions gave wonderful recommendations and even brought out a birthday surprise at the end which the restaurant comped thank you very much for that. I didn't have lunch here, but I did do the afternoon tea, which is something that I would do again if I had the chance for $75 you get this tray of treats, mini sandwiches and desserts and if you want to be extra fancy you can add on a glass of champagne. The place was pretty small and is located on the seventh floor of BG department store. You get a view of Central Park and you're located right at the corner of where the plaza hotel is at. It was very busy, but Best believe the waitresses and servers were very fast so there was hardly any wait. I can't wait to come back and try the lunch. Thanks again BG restaurant for a wonderful experience!

Fancy restaurant, lovely decor, enjoyed the afternoon tea, a must visit. I was glad that I was seated by the window with the breathtaking views of Central Park. I also ordered a lobster salad, portions were great and food was amazing. Service was immaculate and staff were on point. I'll be back for sure.

Came here for afternoon tea, but dined on everything!!!! The restaurant is located on the 7th floor of the department store. We ordered four orders of the afternoon tea service and lunch and service from the staff was impeccable. We had several food allergies at the table and they accommodated all beautifully! We ordered drinks, lobster macaroni and cheese, duck dumplings, coffee, and steak. Okay, so the afternoon tea was a bit of a let down. I'm more for the savory and scones but they disappointed me the most. The scones were cold and I only liked one of my savory options. The desserts were actually the best. The tea was also super delicious. We had some great tea options. The food options and alcohol 20/10! Yeah, that good! Duck dumplings, best I ever had. No gaminess, super tender and juicy. Everyone loved the lobster macaroni and cheese and steak was so juicy, flavorful, and tender (no A1 needed). Even though the afternoon tea was a bit of a let down, the food, drinks, and service more than made up for it. My recommendation is to go for the regular menu items and you won't be disappointed. I will definitely be back!

I recently visited my cousin New York and I was recommended to visit the restaurant at Bergdorf Goodman's. I was really intrigued to walk through the beautiful department store and ascending up an elevator. Once you do, you end up in a hallway which in the middle is the entrance of the restaurant. I visited the restaurant by myself and was told that it would be around a 30 minute wait, so I decided to do a little shoppiing as I waited. I bought a opair of shoes and just as I was finished, I was informed that my table was ready. Timing! I started off with a drink that I forget the name of, but it was a gin based drink with grapefruit liquor. The drink was sparking with these little stars that disentigrated within a few minutes. The tasting of the drink was really good and thats coming from someone who doesn't usually drink gin. For an appetizer I ordered the potstickers which were so darn tasty. They came presented in a circular box that presented perfection. The dipping sauce was a tangy soy sauce with a hint of spice. I was trying to savor them, but I ate them really quick. For my entree, I ordered the daily special which was halibut covered in a lemon burr blanc sitting on a bed of fresh vegetables. The taste of the fish was fresh and cooked to perfection. The sauce wasn't overwhelming which allowed you to actually taste the fish. The restaurant isn't your normal spot as I would say I wasn underdressed when I visited. The service was on point as the server knew exactly to ask if I needed anything and brought the items quickly. It is quite pricey, but its an experience I say is worth it. I give my experience a 8.5/10.

Came to celebrate my bachelorette before the big day with some afternoon tea - first and foremost, the service! So nice and they even gave us a free dessert to congratulate us. Each tier had a selection of sandwiches, scones and desserts with a hot pot of tea. Not the tastiest items - sandwiches could've had been fresher, scones softer but it's more for the vibes as they are immaculate. dishes and teapots are so cute, the view of Central Park is one of a kind.

Are there vegan options for the afternoon tea?

No, they literally only know how to serve egg. It's barely vegetarian. I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND this place. You can see my full review for why.

Can you order both at afternoon tea, the regular lunch menu and the tea menu?

My cocktail had passion fruit, so of course I asked my usual question: "But is it real passion fruit?" He just nodded in agreement and that told me everything I needed to know. That drink was legit and had nice strength. The food was great too. Monkey Bar became one of my favorite Midtown restaurants because its modern history ran almost…read moreperfectly alongside my years in New York. I arrived in 2008 with very little, and when Graydon Carter revived the restaurant in 2009, I was beginning a rise of my own, first at a large global bank and then, to my astonishment, at one of the city's most powerful investment firms. The suits were daily, the walls were gold, and the pressure was so consuming that even success could feel like a form of attrition. After a few years, I moved to a smaller firm with Southern roots, where the culture was more humane, the work gave me greater autonomy, and I produced some of the strongest results of my career, even within an industry still governed by fear, greed, and status. Inside, the red booths, low lighting, generous spacing, and hand-painted monkey murals made lunch feel ceremonial without becoming stiff. The room was timeless and handsome, with polished service, quality food, and the subtle assurance of a place where you could be proud to bring someone important. I especially remember sitting in one of those booths with 2 mentors, each only a few years older than I was and therefore close enough in vintage to feel relatable, trustworthy, and genuinely within reach. One had entered my life after I left the larger firm and helped me understand an earlier chapter that had also ended abruptly and, at the time, felt deeply unfair; the other had guided me through the smaller firm where I finally found a more sustainable way to work. Over that long lunch, I introduced them, we discussed several promising ideas, and for a moment my career seemed to have reached the point where relationships, experience, and opportunity were finally converging. One of those ideas consumed an extraordinary amount of my time and energy, and I believed it might become the foundation of my next chapter. Instead, the arrangement eventually turned on me, the role I thought I had earned never materialized, and the business itself sputtered. My professional life, financial footing, and pride all collapsed just as COVID was beginning. Then Monkey Bar closed in 2020, which made the ending feel almost unnervingly complete: the restaurant, the city, and the version of myself built around New York finance all went dark at once. For years, I experienced that ending as devastating and unfair; now I can see it as wisdom delivered through an unnecessarily rough process. The restaurant's later revival by a Chicago hospitality group feels fitting because it still honors tradition and ceremony while allowing the old forms to evolve into something healthier, looser, and more current. I have not been back since that lunch, but the idea of returning feels less like reclaiming an old life than dipping a toe into a world I no longer need to inhabit. Even now, I remember Monkey Bar as a great Midtown lunch in a handsome room, surrounded by the residue of old ambitions and the gratitude of having survived them. The cocktails were sharp, the service was polished, and the dining room carried that glamorous old New York energy without feeling trapped by it. I remain deeply fond of the place, partly for what it was and partly for what it witnessed. Some restaurants become attached to a chapter of your life, and Monkey Bar holds mine with unusual grace.

It featured a crispy, sugar-glazed exterior and a soft, chewy interior, topped with truffle cheese and served with a truffle butter dip; the pairing was superb, and it tasted great both on its own and with the dip. For the main course, I ordered the miso-glazed black cod. The flavor was flawless, and while the portion was small (which was acceptable), the pool of broth accompanying it was completely unnecessary; it was inedibly salty, so what was the point of serving it? After finishing the fish, I was left with a plate full of broth, rendering the plate unusable. Plus, it was overpriced; for this dish, you're better off going to Strip House Strip House remains the undisputed king of this dish in New York. A friend ordered the chicken parmesan. It was just average. Another friend ordered the short rib stroganoff. The flavor was decent, but it was far too rich and heavy. As someone whose palate is split 50/50 between Western and Chinese cuisine, I could manage only five bites at most. If you have a palate that prefers 100% Chinese food, proceed with caution on this dish. Friends ordered sides of mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. These are dishes originally meant for low-income Americans to fill up on cheaply; there's no limit to how good they can be, but also no floor to how bad they can get. Both were on par with the average quality found in upscale restaurants. Honestly, these are two dishes I would never order myself. To sum up: the atmosphere was great. It's also hard to get a reservation; the place was packed when we had lunch at 2 PM. Aside from that monkey bread, I didn't feel like anything else justified the price or offered something you couldn't find elsewhere. I don't quite get the hype. Perhaps I just didn't order the right dishes; maybe next time I'll try the burger and the steak.

We were already inside MOMA and entered via the inside entrance with a guard and a huge door. Since we arrived at 5pm when they opened we were led to a seated waiting area and provided cold water (a 100F day) and a smaller drink menu. Within a few minutes the main dining room was ready for us and we were led to a three quarter moon seat with a table facing the MOMA outdoor sculpture garden. This room was glorious with its high ceiling and cobalt blue paint and an impressive massive floral arrangements. There were plenty of museum visitors still outside wandering about in the sculpture garden. Each and every staff were wonderful in their friendly welcoming stance and conversations. Having perused their voluminous wine selection online ahead of time (an excellent thing to do ahead of time to avoid last minute decisions) we placed our wine order with the sommelier. Then there was the choice between the two menus, one obviously more expansive in offerings and the price. Since NYC was experiencing our extreme heatwave we opted for the smaller menu, which was totally sufficient and very filling. Most of the time, restaurant tasting menus have words and phrases that "sound" so inviting but wind up being a huge disappointment. However, words here really don't do justice as a description. The menu seemed simple and basic enough: "radish, shiso* crispy ham and cheese; hiramasa and garden peas; sea bass, crab and squash blossom; halibut, tomatoes, sweet corn broth or chicken and red wine braised celeriac; berries and cacao -- Impressions Menu -- 'a glimpse, capturing a moment' $175 (discovery 115 * reserve 295)". Prior to ordering we were informed that both of us had to order the same menu but that we had the option to sub and add on from the expansive menu--which we did with the eggs on eggs on eggs dish, as well as my choice of the lamb. Their signature dish--Eggs on eggs on eggs: a must have to add on this special course with caviar ($50/order). The dish is small, precious and very rich and was positively impressionable. That's the dish I go away with thinking about the restaurant. It came with a stick of toasted brioche to sop up the runny yolk and the caviar (which was neither fishy or salty). I would note the dish was served with caviar spoon. Staff knew enough that after we started eating this they brought an extra set of two more buttered toast sticks. Paired with our all Pinot champagne it was a magical combo. This is the kind of patron mind reading that differentiated a Michelin star restaurant. As the executive chef described the dish: "At the bottom of the bowl is a fried egg sauce, and is broken with a dill oil; second egg is a poached egg yolk (poached in a saline solution just so they are warmed through...we want the yolk to spill through the sauce...). We finish this dish with pickled shallots and more fresh dill for acidity and freshness, and drop a huge spoonful of caviar on top." The amuse was a great way to start especially with the pairing of our champagne. In lieu of the halibut in the Impressions menu I added the lamb from the other menu. Although it was only one piece in the rack of lamb it was terrific with the crunchy maitake mushroom and tasty sauce. The sommelier was excellent and professional without being pretentious -- as well as every single staff that greeted us and served us along the way. THIS Is what one should expect from a two star Michelin restaurant. I tasted the halibut from my wife and it seemed to be slightly under seasoned, though it had a decent sear. Service was perfection. They did not disappoint and I will be back!

Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, I was lead to this great spot for a late dinner and cocktails on a Friday night. The hostess was really friendly and quicky sat us at a two seater near the bar, which we appreciated. The ambiance was light and friendly and they even had a DJ playing all the good jams! I think I danced a bit, (definitely liquid courage). The DJ read the room and created a fun ambiance. The waitress came over a few minutes later and quickly took our drink and meal order. We ordered the Tuna Crispy Rice ( Yum), Guinness Wager Sliders (Nom Nom), Korean Chicken Boas (My Favorite!) and Carnitas Tacos.....I'm embarrassed to admit that we cleaned our plates like a couple of savages. Bartley Dunnes is a great choice to come solo, meet up with friends or come as a group of no more than 4, unless you make a reservation. They have a second floor that I unfortunately didn't get a chance to check out, so I can't write about that. However, I did see people coming and going straight up. I'll be back!

They have a great happy hour running from open until 8 PM, including $6 beers and $8 cocktails, which is a great deal for the area. ordered the Bartleys Spritz (Aperol Spritz) and a Tequila Mule. We sat at the bar, which runs about half the length of the space, and there were also plenty of tables throughout. The back section of the bar feels a bit separated from the main entrance area. There are some TVs throughout, and everything inside seemed fairly new and well maintained. It was not very crowded on a Tuesday early evening, so service was quick and the staff was very friendly. We did not order food this time, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled great. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot for happy hour drinks in the MoMA/Midtown West area.
