I went to this optometry shop to get glasses (no exam). They have a big selection of nicer-branded eyewear. This place is on McLaughlin and Story so it is understandable that every frame is locked down and that you need someone standing with you during your entire selection process to open up the racks for you. It took one week for the glasses to be made (not sure why it took so long?) and when I picked them up the guy spent a good 20 minutes with me measuring my head and heating up the plastic frames to make them fit perfectly. Never have I ever experienced service like that. So in summation, I will be back for my next VSP-sponsored frames. read more

I would like to call it as an EXPERIENCE rather than REVIEW. I went to this place by believing/trusting the rating in yelp! I was given a pair of glasses and tehy are extremely uncomfortable with lots and lots of blurry vision when compared to my old spectacles. After few days, So, i went again to this place for a re-examination. When I called they asked me to come in for eye examination all the way from a very far distance. So, i was like okay...mistakes happen..and i was hoping tehey will correct the glasses by doing re-exam. BUT, When i went there, I was surprised with the doctors words. He said he wont do any re-exam and started blaming my old spectacles and old prescription, with which I was comfortable since 2 years !!!!!! I am not going to accept this. Because my old prescription was perfect for me. Not only old one, all the previous eye optometrys that I went so far in different places, were good and till now i dint faced any problem and I never had to call tjem again for re-exam at all. So, literally, its like, eye doctor was arguing/keep on justifying what he did was true and he was NOT ready to accept that glasses were given wrong!! I felt like, if he do re-examination, he dont want to disprove himself and I felt very bad, there I felt like, doctor tried to protect their reputation in the cost of my eyes!! Whatever, but I am the one who have to wear those glasses and I was keep on telling that "i am uncomfortable with these glasses, they are blurry, please do re-exam!" But still doctor was only giving explanations and I felt he was only trying to explain me his experience there. And finally, he said, then the problem is with your eyes not my diagnosis!!! I was shocked with this comment. He redirected me to a different doctor. I still went home with lots of consfusion hoping that may be my eyes still needs some time to set with new glasses but, end of the day, the reason they called me in is for Re-exam and they sent back me without any exam. Thats literally disgusting and I cant take it because, i came from a very far distance by using public transportation that literally costed me a lot to and fro (uber) and when I come there, i felt like there is no respect given to my words and ny discomfort of glasses!! So, I thought of giving 4-5 days try...keeping in mind that, may be new glasses would need some time to fit, but still after 1 week the same discomfort continued and I again called them for a solution. Then they said they will refund my money and they asked me to take exam somewhere else. So, out of all this experience, my 2 weeks time was wasted. Here out of all the odds, one good thing that I would like to appreciate from them is they finally refunded my money back and gave my liberty to check with another eye doctor. read more

Large selection. Friendly staff. Expert personal care and attention. When I stepped into the office, I was amazed at the large selection and friendly staff. I have been in search for new frames for a long time but being picky, undecisive was not on my side. Stepping in trang helped me find a pair of glasses I love. Being from southern California, I didn't bring my prescription for my eyes . I was happy that dr Huynh was able to examined my eyes. You could really tell he loved being an optometrist because he was extremely patient and explained the whole process. Dr. Hunyh did a thorough eye exam for me and my husband. He patiently explained what our eye insurance covered and answered all our questions. Mr. Vinh, in the front office was friendly and helpful. He helped pick a frame for me and prescription sun glasses for my husband. For my husband's nike sun glasses, we had to only pay a little over the frame allowance allowed by insurance. Oh man, this will be my go-to place for my eyes from now on! I've been planning to get some new eyeglasses ever since I got a new job... kinda awhile ago. ahahah with great vision insurance. And my current glasses frame are old.. breaking and chipping, pulling onto my hair :(..... They accept VSP, for those of you who are covered under VSP :) It was very simple, they'll just look you up by your name and last 4 digits of SSN, and then your benefit details will come up. When I walked in, I was a bit clueless since I had no appointment set up, but the workers here were SO friendly, SO helpful, and SO knowledgeable. They sure do know what the heck they're talking about! They were very welcoming and accommodating, and helped me pick out frames that would match my face... this took quite a while but they were so wonderful about it and didn't mind the time. They understand that once you pick a frame, you'll be wearing these glasses for quite some time.. so take your time to find "the one". They'll gladly help you with it! I also had my eye exam that same day-- I just wanted to get everything over with. I came with my uber-talkative, million-question boyfriend, and the DR. & Staff were actually pretty engaging with me and my boyfriend throughout the whole exam & experience here. I used to go to kaiser for my eye exam. That was five years ago. Omg I realized how bad they where when I had to come back about five times for my contacts fitting. And even then my contacts didn't fit right. I realized how worst kaiser was when I was introduced to Dr. Huynh from my best friend. Dr. Huynh is so thorough with our exam, my dayghter and I. I had a lot of questions and he was patient to answer them in simple understanding terms. His contacts fitting for me was one shot deal and perfect fit. He is always available for his patients needs. My penny pinching ways have caught up to me... I failed my DMV eye exam and needed new glasses ASAP. Whats a gal to do? I googled "san jose 1 hour glasses".. Voila!! Yelp had a list. BH Eye was super nice on the phone. Set the appointment for that very morning. I was greeted by two lovely ladies with smiles. They were helpful, fun to chat with and knowledgeable. While waiting for the Doctor, we selected a few frames and had some laughs about life. The Doctor mirrored everything I had experiance to that point. Nice, easy to talk to, understanding and the most critical factor in my eye care, "Detailed". He made me the BEST GLASSES I have ever worn in the 20 years of getting prescription glasses. To be up front, my sister is Dr. Huynh's friend so I decided to try his office out based on her recommendation. In short, Dr. Huynh was very gentle and patient with my daughters (5 and 2 Y.O.) for their exams. His staff is knowledgeable and even found me a nice pair or Rx sunglasses this year and one for my wife last year without the pushiness like every other optometrists. I found this optometry through yelp and I must say this was a really lucky find! Yesterday was the second time I came in for an exam to renew my prescription for glasses/contacts. I called for an appointment yesterday morning and they took me in the same day @ 5:30PM. I'm still under my dad's insurance - definitely have to take advantage of that before I'm on my own. My exam was completed around 6PM (closing time). But one of the ladies in the front was kind enough to stay even after closing to help me choose my frames. I must have tried on 20 of them. They told me it would take 7-10 business days to get my glasses and I just got a call that it's ready for pick up. Glasses within 1 day!? Aaaamazing. Love this place! read more

Yet again, another Thank-You to my Yelpers for posting about BH Eye Care. I was in search of a new Optometrist, since I've been going to the same one for the past 20 years, and he hasn't updated any of this toys during that whole time. I was looking for a Vietnamese doctor, since they seem to have the best deals and selection for designer frames. I went with BH since they were right off the freeway, and had a perfect 5 star record on Yelp. I came in after work around 4:30pm. Dr. Huynh was EXTREMELY patient with me, and I actually did not leave until 6:30pm. He cares so much for his patients, he doesn't mind giving up his time to educate you on eye care, and getting you fitted for the contact lense and glasses that are perfect for you. Vinh was also very patient in helping me select my glasses. I literally tried on 75% of the frames in the store, and without blinking an eye or pushing me into purchasing something I didn't like, Vinh assisted me one by one with each frame, even giving me time to take pictures in between with my iphone so I could send them to my husband. I would recommend my friends and family to all go to BH. :) I can't wait to go back this weekend with my husband, so he can help me pick a frame finally. So I lost my glasses on a Saturday, and then began getting worried on Sunday when practically every optometry place was closed. Then I found BH Eye Care Optometry on Yelp and was excited just to find something that was open. The place was great. The people were friendly and patient. The appointment itself was not short. However, because they have a lab on site I was able to leave that appointment with a new pair of glasses! I didn't have to wait a week for glasses. I also decided to get contacts for the first time. I am currently covered under insurance and have a regular optometrist I go to regularly. However, the eye glass selection there is limited and a bit pricier. So, I had a few optometry stores to visit and view the selection and pricing. Last week, I went to BH Eye Care to browse through their selection of glasses. The lady that helped us was very knowledgeable and helpful. I must have tried on about 30 - 40 pairs of glasses, and the lady was very patient with me. She was also very attentive in the styles I was looking for and provided different suggestions for the different brands they carried. I liked that she didn't push for the more expensive frames, rather what worked best for my face. The store was fairly busy as it was a Saturday, but she had her full attention on me. As I still wanted to see if there were other frames I wanted, I told her that I wanted to browse some more frames before making a decision. She proceeded to place the frame on hold for me and mentioned that the pricing would be similar at all optometry stores. I ended up visiting one more store. The service was not great at this other store and the prices were marked up significantly. Needless to say, I returned to BH Eye Care the next day to place my order. I was told that the glasses would take 1 - 2 weeks, but was given a call in 2 days to let me know they were ready to be picked up. I picked up my glasses the following Saturday, and my boyfriend ended up looking at some frames for himself. Again, we were given great service by the same lady. She even went to the extent of looking online to see if there were other colors or sizes that would fit my boyfriend's face shape better. Dr. Huynh and his staff are the epitome of awesome. They are the best. Absolute amazing awesomesauce best. First, Dr. Huynh was very thorough during my eye examination and contact lens fitting. He explained, in detail, about my eye health, and he ensured that I understood what was going on. He answered all of my questions, and yes, I had a lot! He was very patient, friendly, and very nice throughout the exam. Best optometrist I've ever met. My insurance covered either glasses or contacts, so I wasn't sure which to go with. Vinh was helpful in explaining my coverage, and I didn't feel pressured to choose one over the other. Vinh took his time to explain my options, and I really appreciated that. I chose contacts, and Dr. Huynh and staff ensured I was comfortable with the contacts. I came back 3 times because several contact brands ended up drying my eyes, and my job depended on my vision. I forgot the optometrists' name (shame on me/there's only one there), but he's a nice guy, and actually explains the procedures, why he orders what he did, and explains what he is doing as he is doing it. The front desk staff are all incredibly sweet. Really nice people. And the bathroom and office in general are all CLEAN. Seriously, go here for your eye care. He's thorough. Hands down--best eye doctor around town. Dr. Huyen is a very humble caring individual who is knowledgeable, thorough, and easy to talk to. He has many eye equipment to better treat and diagnosis his patients. I love the fact that he'll show you his findings or what he see and explain in detail. He has a great collection of comfortable eyewear selection as well as cosmetically preferable collection for all ages! And seriously, he has the sweetest and knowledgeable staff! Very efficient from the time we call to make our appointments to following up calls & texts about our eyeglasses status & pick up. Once we arrived to pick up our glasses, they made sure all adjustments are made comfortable to our fitting before dispensing it. In addition, if u have future frame issues that need adjustments--they will do it at no charge! My mom have been going here for years and occasion she will need to tighten some screws on her eyeglasses and she was always welcome and very please when she leaves. No fuss, hassle or days of waiting for a urgent check-up. I had irritated my eye and wanted to go in same-day. The shop/optomestrist is in the middle of little vietnam, east side SJ, and quite the niche area. Considering I was half blind, I was able to reach this place just fine--although, I came across some language barriers with strangers to find this place while visually impaired. Dr. Huynh prescribed me and gave me a couple sample eye drops for the more expensive solution. One of his receptionists isn't english speaking which gives me a -.5 but besides that, I was well taken care of! Great guy, attentive, educative, super nice and a little soft spoken. I went a few days ago to get my annual eye exam and this is by far the BEST exam I have ever had. Dr. Huynh is super nice and he explained everything to me. He spent a total of an hour doing my exam. Usually, I'll go to Wal-Mart or Costco to get my exams. It takes about 15-20 minutes at those places and they charge a ridiculous amount for that small amount of time. My first impression of the place was a really good one. The place is pretty big and clean. I didn't realize he was playing receptionist while his staff was at lunch until he mentioned it. But right away, he already made me feel welcomed. They have a large selection of glasses, but most of them are labels (Fendi, Vogue, Nike). If I'm correct, they're actually having a sale on most of the frames (20%-30% off). I'm usually a glasses person, but wanted contacts this year to enable me to do things like snowboard AND see at the same time. Because my prescription wasn't that strong, he recommended that I use contacts only part-time and my glasses only when I'm driving. He also told me that I probably didn't need transition lenses and instead to get anti-glare. I was just so impressed with the whole experience that I'm going to do everything he said. He was very patient, answered all my questions, and didn't leave anything out that I didn't ask about. I'd definitely recommend this place to a friend. read more

Dr. Ban is awesome! He was super helpful, honest, and funny. I asked him questions about authenticity in the frames, different types of lenses, and polarized sunglasses. he did not hesitate with his answer. I think he truly loves what he does and it shows in the way he works. He left a corporate type setting to have his own office so he didn't have to deal with all the political bs. good for you! I will definitely be back. Although my prescription glasses and sunglasses set me back a bit, they were great prices especially with my VSP insurance. Not sure why anyone would give this place a bad review! I've experienced nothing but great customer service from them. It was time for me to finally get an eye exam after several years and my friend actually recommended BH Eye Care Optometry to me. I was even more excited to find out that they accepted my insurance, so it was less of a hassle. I called on a Tuesday to make an appointment for the following day and they were able to fit me in the following afternoon. My eye exam and consultation took about 30-45 minutes, it went by fairly quick. The optometrist was very knowledgeable and informed me what he was going to do before he even looked at my eyes. I picked out the frames I wanted while I was waiting for the doctor and after my exam was done, it did not take long for the office staff to place my order. They said that my glasses would be ready in about 5-7 days, but it actually only took about 4 days and they gave me a call to pick them up. After I picked up my glasses, they sized it and made sure that everything was to my satisfaction before leaving. The office staff and optometrist are all so helpful! I will be recommending this place to my family and friends in the near future. read more

fortunately my ensuing exam was by far the best one i've ever had. i am a naturally inquisitive person and it was my good luck that Dr. Huynh was really patient and interested in answering my questions. my previous experience has been that most of the time optometrists rapidly go through the minimum exam points and present the prescription and move on....which might be ok for customers who are in a hurry and basically only want a new prescription... but there's a lot that an optometrist can do and see. for example, a retina exam is important, but to see the entire inside of an eyeball requires the doctor to physically move to various positions to the left, right, above, below... which is something i can't remember previous optometrists doing very thoroughly, but Dr. Huynh was right on point with this. the actual lens testing: which is better 1 or 2? which is better 3 or 4? which is better 5 or 6? and so on ... can get pretty intense.... if you ask he can slow down, and he can change the screen from a row of letters to one letter. also, when he said his father is my age that gave me a reference point to inquire beyond the standard answer ("Everyone's eyes are different.") to ask him to compare certain evaluations about my eyes with similar evaluations of his father's eyes so the comparison provided more detail to me. Thus i suggest that for people who want a thorough exam and who might want to discuss anything about their vision beyond just getting a prescription, Dr. Huynh would be a good optometrist read more

My mom has cancer which has begun to affect her vision. We made an appointment, but when we arrived we had to wait almost 20 minutes while they spoke with someone who had just walked off the street. After a hard sales pitch about their many designer glasses, we selected a pair and went on our way. When we went back to pick up the glasses they were the wrong frames and did not fit. All we got was a quick adjustment and a goodbye. We're out $500 and stuck with a pair of useless glasses.
