I went to the Dublin Big 5 yesterday and today and probably had the greatest retail experience ever. Yesterday, I visited the Dublin Big 5 with the intent to buy some ammo for a weekend get together with the boys. When I walked in, I was greeted immediately and then I proceeded to walk over to the firearms section. Haylee was the person who helped me pick out my ammo and I was impressed of her knowledge of the variety of ammo. Anyway, when it came to running my background check, I ended up being rejected. This is the first time that it's ever happened to me so Haylee was kind enough to walk me through that process and gave me the necessary paperwork to get it fixed. With the help of her resources and expertise, I was able to sort it out the next morning (today.) Now that I had the background check situated, I made it back to Big 5 in hopes that I get approved and actually buy ammo. When I arrive, Haylee was already at that counter and was ready to help. She remembered my situation and the ammo that I was interested in which I thought was impressive. When my background cleared, she was very cheerful. With her help, I was able to buy my ammo. Overall, I think that her customer service is the gold standard on how to treat customers. This encounter has made this specific Big 5 my official go-to place for all of my sporting goods needs. read more

I stopped by this store last night. I wanted to purchased a wrist watch that was on sale for eTeam members. I forgot my coupon, so the sales associate Montrell told me if I return the item in 24 hrs, I could get a price adjustment. So today, I went back to the store. I also wanted to look at some full-zip sweatshirts, unfortunately they were low on small sizes. Chris asked if I needed help and he mentioned a shipment would be coming in later this week. I also asked him about basketballs since I know nothing. He explained the various types and brands. With his help, I purchased my very first basketball, the Spalding TF. I liked the tacky feel of the surface. At the counter, Jenny helped me. She's helped me before and she made things very simple. She made the price adjustment and applied it to the basketball. Quick and easy. I've shopped at this store for many years. The employees are always friendly, the sales associates always greet me when I enter the store, and they always ask if I need help with anything. Had a good experience. As many mentioned this is the cheaper version of REI. They have less options and maybe not as many name brands or unique companies but for your basic needs they have everything. Came in for some winter gear - they had plenty of options for men, women, and children. Grabbed some very well priced snow gloves and socks. The customer service was very friendly and the store was clean - no issues. read more

I always have had difficulty buying shoes, due to a congenital birth defect. My feet have been painful my entire life and I hate shoe shopping. My experience with Damon at Big 5 was amazing. He was knowledgeable and so patient with me after trying on (probably) 8 pairs. He recommended the perfect sneakers that weren't so painful, and I bought 2 pairs! He is a treasure and should be commended on his customer service skills. What a wonderful human and tremendous employee. Give that man a raise! read more

I like to alternate between this store and REI. Today I came in to look at some hiking shoes. I had the Good Fortune of being helped by Wayne. It turns out he's really an encyclopedia of knowledge about local Trails. He was extremely helpful and we had a good time chatting about the various trails and sharing information. I was confused about one brand of running shoe shoes and he got me straightened out. Big 5 tends to carry some of the less expensive brands. If you can get something on sale, which is often, it can really be a fantastic deal. Keep in mind however they don't carry a lot of the more expensive brands such as Merrell or Vasque. However, if you're okay with one of these lesser brands it's a great deal. Big 5 always has a ton of shoes that are discarded heavily. They use distorted as a draw to get customers in the store. Honestly, a lot of them are not very high quality, but it's still fun to look. The company also sends out frequent coupons in the mail. They often have one that saves you $10 if you buy $30 worth of worth of merchandise. It is a heck of a deal! read more

Came in yesterday September 12 on my lunch as I had just started a new job and purchased some very expensive work boots somewhere else and they were hurting my feet on first time wearing them, young guy understood the mission and made some suggestions and I ended buying his recommendation as they were exactly what I was after, also some jerky and drinks as lunch time was almost over! Best customer service I have experienced in years... anywhere... My Mom and I went into the Dublin Big Five today looking for low backed camping type chairs to attend a lawn concert without having to sit on the ground. The sales assistant Justin was so friendly and helpful. He pulled out and set up multiple chairs for us to try out. He was so patient and kind. When I couldn't get back up out of one chair he even gave me hand to stand back up and was so sweet about it. In the end we found chairs that worked for us thanks to Justin's patience. This was really a pleasant and successful shopping experience of a kind that I didn't know could be had anymore. If more stores had employees like Justin I bet more people would go back to brick and mortar stores. read more

This location is smaller than some of the other Big 5 locations I've visited, but on the bright side, its small selection makes it easier to find what you're looking for. Problem is, when I look for a particular shoe I saw in the weekly ad, it never seems to look the same in person. The color is off or the bottom of the shoe feels/looks like foam. They don't keep a lot of each shoe size in stock, so often I find that I have to buy the ones on display if I want the shoes. The staff is helpful and nice, but often there is only one person helping a bunch of people, so you'll have to wait your turn. It's located on the corner - brick type of building, semi hidden by trees. There's a small parking lot right outside, and if you're in need of groceries, you can just head across the street to Safeway! read more

My son and I were just at this Big 5 hoping to buy some ammo for range shooting. Even though we did not purchase what we wanted to buy, we ended up staying perusing for over an hour. The salesmen who assisted us in learning more about pellet guns and boxing equipments were so helpful, professional and patient. They were not aggressively trying to sell things to us, but instead, were all kind and helpful in educating us. Excellent customer service! read more

Similar to the last review..one guy who may have been the manager was super grumpy. My kid was looking at an item that was already open (open box). When he put it back in it original condition, we were followed around the store and got told on even though it wasn't his fault. Felt a bit harassed. I was on the way to my father's birthday and my mother said I should get him an ab roller. Not knowing what this was really I just called this Big 5 and they had them - they were super nice over the phone. It's a medium size lot and easy parking. Walking in the store seems packed to the brim with sports stuff. Immediately we were greeted and asked if we needed help. He led us to the ab lounger and explained the two different kinds and was honest - telling us we didn't need the more expensive one really unless it was for looks or just a little fine tuning. It was nice to have an honest salesmen. The cashier was silly and teased us. Friendly and quick. We left laughing and in a good mood. Great customer service and had exactly what we were looking for at similiar prices. read more

I pretty rarely go into Big 5, but I've now gone a couple times and think it warrants me at least giving it a review. Of the times that I've gone in, service is always helpful and fast. Not always the best selection, but I kinda know that going in. I guess pretty good service for what is highly likely minimum wage stuff. read more

Big 5 is a great when you're in a pinch to pick up something sports related but dont want to spend the time driving to Sports Chalet or REI. I really feel that this Big 5 is TOO CLUTTERED!!! There is just too much crap everywhere. If they reduced their inventory by 10-15% there might be enough space to walk around with out being afraid of knocking stuff over. For the most part Big 5 has a wide selection of products and good customer service but again...to much stuff everywhere and its not organized very well. read more

Not the biggest or best of the Big 5s, but you can usually find a good deal on things here. I've bought a couple of good camping knives here, although I haven't really used them ($11.99 - 19.99 when on sale). Addidas, Nike, and Diadora soccer shin-guards. Wilson and E-Force Racquetball gear. You might have to look for customer service sometimes, but I find what I need and leave. read more

HORRIFIC both the store and the corporate office. I have had a rain check for items for a year... one of the employees kept telling me to try back another time... They never got the item in and when i called Customer service and asked about price matching... the item i wanted was 55.00, they offered basically the same thing from the same company and want to charge me 105.00... when I asked that the call be escalated.. I started out this morning by putting on my sandals when I happened to also plant my big tush onto my purse as I lost my balance, fell backwards, which happened to crush my previous pair of cheap sunglasses I had originally purchased from Lucky's Supermarkets for $15-$20, in half. lol To avoid incompetent cashiers at Lucky's, I found Big 5 Sporting Goods in Dublin. I had pulled up their online website before leaving my place, which one of their Ads featured some of their sunglasses being on sale. I visited Big 5 Sporting Goods earlier today for the very first time and I must say, the customer service I received was excellent and friendly. This Big 5 Sporting Goods had more products in their store versus the Big 5 Sporting Goods out in Sunnyvale. As a child, I remember my dad taking us to Big 5 Sporting Goods ALL the time although totally different location/city. I walked into Big 5's and right away, I found 2 racks of various shapes/colored sunglasses on the other side of the cash register. As I browsed around, one of the older guys with glasses came by to see if I needed any help from him today? I said, "No. I'm just here to browse around some sunglasses and buy a pair today." hehe At the cashier, there was an older guy returning a medium sized box, which was fine. It's pretty normal that one would have to stand in line and wait for a bit until your turn comes along. Overall, I will return to Big 5 Sporting Goods if I ever need another pair of sunglasses. I shelled out an extra $10 comparing to what I paid for at Lucky's, but I have no complaints after all, I did receive an excellent customer service today!! read more

Extra star for a friendly greeting coming in by the cashier but after that, it was a trip through a tired store that needs to be put out of it's misery by Sports Authority. I went in to look for shoes. I stood in the shoe department for quite a few minutes. I heard voices behind a door that said "employees only" so I knocked. A guy came out and said another guy would help me. He came to the door, I held up a shoe and said "I'd like this in (my size) but if you don't have it I'll take any other New Balance in that size." I said this because they had very few NB styles and my size is weird so I didn't expect a lot of options. I'm sure the guy feels he handled the situation perfectly by not getting me what I asked for and being condescending. I'm sure if I hadn't been standing there waiting and someone would have been there to help me sooner, it would have gone differently but he stepped into the batters box with two strikes on him. Last night I drove all the way here from raleys in Pleasanton, and I thought they would be open, as yelp advertises that they are open until 10PM. Well I wasted gas coming here. Get your signs right online and don't waste people's time. One of the guy's inside the store could care less about me, but the other guy was cool and answered my question. There aren't too many sporting goods stores in Dublin. This is a problem because it makes the prices of things go up. I'm sure this is not true, but I'll choose to believe this. I bought a roller hockey puck. It was $8 or something. Seems too expensive to me, but I had no other choice, but to buy it. The selection is pretty good. And for all my brothers and sisters who love guns, they have guns. The next best thing about this place, it's next to the 680 south on ramp. read more

This store seems perfectly fine, and not any better than that. For a sporting good store it has adequate selection, but is on the small side. However, there is a nice sized parking lot outside and the store isn't too busy. After walking around the store I decided to get some new sunglasses since my previous ones broke. In order to get any help they needed to call someone over for optical. If you only want the super cheap glasses that are outside of the case this won't matter. read more

I give this store a 1 star rating because of the employee, Alex. He is absolutely rude and unprofessional. I'm not sure what his title is to be quite frank, but he claims himself to be the Store Manager. If true, Big 5 as a company, has a huge issue. He needs to be trained on customer service and product knowledge and what systems he has available to him. I was looking for a product that this store did not have. So I went to another store, and they were able to look in the system where it was carried, called that store and placed a hold for me to pick up. Alex could have, should have done exactly the same! Not only did he not do that, he is very dismissive. Is it laziness? Even so, he seems to care little about helping you out. read more
