Warning: per a Big A subs employee, if you order through Grubhub, your order may get lost. We ordered through Grubhub and waited for the delivery window to elapse. Since our food hadn't arrived, we called. The employee who answered asked us several time what we had ordered, admitted that sometimes Gurbhub orders "don't come through." After being asked for a third time what we had ordered, my husband said to her "maybe you should write it down, we've told you twice already." At that point she told us not to be rude, that she was "trying to be nice." At that point she abruptly said "your order is cancelled" and hung up on us. If you must order from them, call them directly if you want to make sure you'll get to eat. read more

Had a turkey sub yesterday and I wasn't impressed. The meat was so salty -beyond the normal limits of deli meat sodium. The bread was so-so but I wasn't expecting the sesame seeds and they made an unpleasant addition to the taste. I ordered a large expecting to squeeze lunch and dinner out of it but a large was suitable for a large lunch only. Not bad but not great. read more

Just moved to a new apartment and this place is now within walking distance. EXCELLENT Italian subs, meatballs are homemade, and the chicken bomb is delicious. Cozy little place with table seating. You order at one part of the counter and pay at another, would be a little less confusing to new customers if they hung signs above the ordering and paying sections. The customer service can be challenging sometimes, the last time my husband was in there the girl ringing him up was hysterically crying at the register. Just a tiny bit awkward.... Honesty there steak tips salad used to be great. It's been awhile since I've ordered from the big A and I decided to call up and order my favorite. What an absolute disgrace. This is by far the BEST sub place in the Boston area. There steak and cheese is to die for. It is not chunky and fatty like the other sub shops. They finely chop it up. The place also doesn't have your typically "take out" feel (and smell). There are chairs to sit. Parking can be sometimes challenging but the prices and the quality of the food make up for it. read more

Having a horrible experience with The Big A. It has been 90 minutes and counting since I placed my order through Grubhub. I received 2 confirmations of my order and that my food would be delivered by 9.20pm. I called the store at 9.40pm and was told by a male worker my order was on it's way. At 9.57pm I called again and was informed by a female worker that if they are busy, they don't touch their grub hub orders until all other orders are taken care of so don't worry, the food shouldn't be cold. She also said if it doesn't come within the next 10 minutes I could call back and talk to the owner. No apologies. It's 10.08pm and still no food. Time to call the owner. Called back and got the same female worker who said she didn't see my order. Then came back and said it was with a delivery driver and got offended when asked if the food would be cold. When asked if they would compensate for the inconvenience she said we could cancel the order. read more

This place is okay. The last time I went I asked for a tiny bit of hots on my Italian sub and the lady ladled like 6 huge spoonfuls. It's not a bad place to get a sandwich but there are better places around. Though I'd definitely go here before I went to DiPietros; the sandwiches here are definitely better than those served across the street. The Italian Sub, Chicken Parm, and Sausage and Meatball sub were all pretty good each time I've gotten them. The steak and cheese was pretty good, too. Not sure why I don't go here more. read more

Great sub shop with mediocre pizza. The pizza just can't compare to the great locations in the neighborhood but if you're out for a sub you can't do any better. I've always enjoyed my sandwiches from there and so have everyone I've known who has eaten there. The atmosphere really makes you want to take your sub to go, but the food is solid. read more

I usually get food from this sub shop only because it's close by and decent price, but today was a Hugh disappointment. I order a cheese burger dinner at 12:30 noon and it was 2:30 yet I still never received my food. I gave them a call and the front desk said sorry they are on the way. I have grown up on this food. The Chicken Parms Sub is One the best things on the menu. Overall All the subs good. The pizza not so much.

My boyfriend and I really love the food here. There isn't anything bad. The salads are out of this world and are huge portions. The subs are delicious and the onion rings will have you eating more than you probably should. The place itself is clean and there is parking on the street outside. The trouble is, they can be very busy and it impacts the quality of service you get. Whenever we call and place an order, the woman answering the phone is so short and rude. While most Bostonians are straight shooters and "get to the point" kind of people, the staff takes it to a new level. You call and the first thing said is "Pick up or delivery," no "Hi, this is Big A" or something similar. Often it's "Hold" and then click... you wait for a minute or two. Other times you can hear them having on conversation with someone else for a good 20 seconds before they address you on the phone. Once you place the order they say "Okay, bye." Sometimes they don't even say bye and just hang up. There is no mention of how much the total is, how long it'll take before you pick up (if you come before 25 minutes be prepared to wait), or asking if you are going to pay with card (in the event you're getting delivery). I can't even count how many times I've had to call back to give them my card information because I wasn't asked. Overall the food is delicious, delivery is fine, place is clean. But, the woman who answers the phone could be a little more polite and less rushed. read more

We have been ordering from here for a long time and it seems that every single time we do something is wrong. They either send the wrong food, forget food, or don't make the orders correct. I call to rectify the issues here and there. This past week was the final straw. I was working and ordered a pizza for my kids at home, surprise surprise they can't even get a pizza correct. The entire pizza is burnt. So after having 6 missed calls from the driver because God forbid they just ring a doorbell I call and finally ask to speak to a manager. Coming from someone who works in hospitality, I have no idea how this man keeps a business open nevermind employees. I was expressing my concern on how it is appropriate to send out a burnt pizza, for him to tell me it was only the cheese that was burnt??? So you as the owner knew a pizza was burnt but sent it out anyways. I told him I was just notifying him of the issue and ordering my kids their pizza from somewhere else. Low and behold 30 mins later my phone is ringing nonstop from the same delivery driver phone number. He has now been sitting outside of my house (which I am not at) for a while with a replacement pizza no one asked for??? Absolutely done with this place. I rather go to il signo or cold cut factory. Those two shops are the best sub spots in the area. There meats were pre sliced. Quality of meats were sort market quality. Bread looked like it came from a plastic bag not fresh like from a bakery. Ingredients were fresh though but that's it. There's no difference between these subs and subway. Mediocre subs. I would not return I rather go to the other two places I mentioned for a real sub. read more

I really enjoy the chicken fingers at Big A. I love them a great deal, in fact. I typically order delivery from Big A once every two weeks. They are usually quite slow, and by the time the food arrives, everything is cold. But, when it is good, it is great! However, my experience with them today has made me never want to order from them again. -We placed our order at around 11:05 -We called to check on our order at noon- we were told that delivery man had left "a long time ago". -Called again at 12:15- I work at a school so my lunch time is limited at best! -Delivery arrived at 12:28ish, but did not come to the door, so we had to run out looking for him! The food was completely cold and soggy by the time it arrived. I understand they had to travel 5 minutes to find a very well-known location in the town, but come on......about an hour and a half for a few orders of chicken fingers and cheeseburger plates?! Don't go here. Grew up here and came all the time. Now on TWO separate occasions I saw the cashier ladies TAKE FOOD FROM CUSTOMERS PLATES!! One woman with dark hair and glasses who had NO GLOVES on was constantly picking from the sub station (while making someone's cold sub) and eating fries from customers to-go boxes!! And the older woman with blonde hair who's been there for a while likes to stick her stained gloves in peoples food to eat and handling money in between touching more food. My bf had to wipe his credit card with a napkin because she's cross contaminating so badly. Absolutely unacceptable. Changing and WEARING your gloves is common sense. I was craving for a turkey sub and buffalo chicken wings and thought I give this a try. The sub was good and it hit the spot. The buffalo wings on the other hand was a little salty. Me and my mom went in and ordered two salads which is perfect because after what I saw I do not want a sub from there. The girl who I assume answers the phones and helps making food (not the one that made our salads). All while making a sub (she had gloves on) she answered the phone twice & proceeded to put her hair up in a pony tail and then continued to make the sub (all with the same gloves on). I've been coming here for over 20 years. For the most part as sub shops go, it is OK. The level of service has dropped a bit over the years. Its hit or miss if you're going to get decent service or not. I will say they do better with the on line ordering service. It's not perfect, but it's far from bad.
