I will be honest. My wife and I came here because we were meeting up someone for a Facebook marketplace goods exchange. I had never seen this area before even though I have been around this place many times. My wife and I were still a little hungry so we decided to walk in and we were very surprised to see the high-quality of the items that were in the store. The store is bright and visible at every corner and quite welcoming. The staff was friendly and warm. My wife found a few items that she had not seen anywhere else in a long time and she picked up a few... Probably more than we expected to walk out of the store with Our time there was quick and easy and we appreciated how the store was clean, and easy to get around. A wonderful local town market for those basic grocery shopping needs. The meat shop has some great cuts for the grill. Big Al's doesn't have everything, but they have enough. The staff are very friendly & helpful. If you need a big grocery shopping trip, Costco is just down the road. read more

The deli is a Joke, this is the second time they've messed up a simple order. I asked for just a plain turkey sandwich and ended up with a ham sandwich with everything on it. When confronted about their wrong-doings they said " My bad" and didn't remake it just sent me away. While the store itself is great, stay away from the deli. read more

I love Big Al's. Loved when I was just a customer and love it even more now that I am an employee. Their sandwiches while some consider them pricy....they are delicious and I'd rather pay 8...9bucks for a big Al's sandwiche than subway! Super convenient and their selection of literally everything from beers and alcohol to fruits and vegetables are extensive. I normally love shopping here at this little town market. But recently a few times I've been in it has been distressing. I have noticed that the quality of the food has not decreased but the quality of service has. I believe her name was Jenny, a woman with dark hair in a bun. I overheard her speaking rudely to a customer that was trying to be friendly! And then even with me, she kept the same attitude. I have now been in another time and I had the same experience. Fantastic small town market. This place has everything you need, including beautifully displayed, fresh produce, meat counter with amazing steaks and deli sandwiches, hard to find caffeine-free diet, Pepsi and much more. The staff is very friendly and you can tell everyone is very proud to work in this amazing market. We drive in from Lincoln bypassing our Walmart, raley's Safeway and sprouts. None of which can compare to this gem. The prices are very reasonable and they have very good sale prices. We just paid $11 a. Pound for huge T-Bones with large fillets. They weighed a pound and a half each and grilled up amazingly. The drive has proved to be more than worth it to us, it is now our main go-to for grocery shopping. read more

I've shopped here for many years and am a huge fan of the deli department. Traditionally our shopping experience at Big Al's Market has always been great. Friendly service and wonderful, fresh food. No complaints. Unfortunately, that was not the case on our last and final shopping experience. My husband and I visited your deli several weekends ago and received incredibly rude service from a short (in stature), blonde-haired female cashier wearing black rimmed glasses upon entering and exiting your store. We do not wear masks in any establishment, under any circumstance for reasons that do not need to be discussed here. With that stated, upon entering your store, this cashier loudly demanded we put masks on immediately. She hastily provided us with masks which she handed to us with her dirty, un-sanitized hands. We put them on, but noticed several other patrons not wearing them in your store (5 to be exact), so we slide our masks down under our chins feeling rather irritated by the big hullabaloo she had made at our entrance. Mind you, not a single other Big Al employee felt the need to ardently police the masking of patrons around the store. She was the only one. Once we ordered and obtained our sandwiches from your pleasant deli staff, we went through this same cashiers line and in a rude and condescending tone she stated, "Yunno, you actually have to WEAR the masks properly to be in here. It's our policy." My husband politely proceeded to ask her why so many other patrons were in the store without a mask and were not being harassed? She snarkley stated, "If they're in here without a mask it's because I didn't see them enter the store without one!" What she didn't realize is that just moments before we'd entered her line, we watched her make direct eye contact, wave, and say hello to a woman entering the store who was NOT WEARING A MASK and that same cashier did NOT say a word to her about your mask policy!!! Pure hypocrisy! After that we realized there was no reasoning with her. I calmly told her, "I'm sorry that you feel this way. We will never shop at this store again." She didn't respond or offer any sort of apology. And it's because of her rude attitude and lack of apology that you've now lost two loyal patrons, and I've spread the word to several of our friends in the area. Regardless of your policy on masks, the pandemic, or your and/or your employee's political values, customer service in your store should ALWAYS COME FIRST! I'm saddened to have to write such a negative review on what I thought was such a wonderful, community driven market. Please consider educating your staff on proper etiquette and customer service. A great neighborhood market with an amazing meat counter/deli. The staff is always professional and courteous. The fruits and vegetables are always fresh and a great selection. They have a solid selection of goods, especially if you consider the size of the store and they do a great job of keeping most staple products stocked. The reason for 4/5 star rating is: 1. The store is due for a remodel/refresh and 2. The prices can be a little higher than expected (BUT the conveniency factor more than makes up for that). They also support the local community which is always a plus. read more

Terrible customer service here. Every time I go I'm never greeted with a "welcome in" or anything. When I'm waiting in line at the register, the cashier is always chatting with a coworker holding up the line forever. After I finish paying I always say "thank you. Pretty pricey but convenient for when I'm out of something and don't want to drive 30 minutes to Lincoln. Unfortunately, not somewhere I can shop for all of my groceries but they do have a surprisingly large amount of vegan options; plant milk, vegan butter, a couple frozen food options, Amy's soups and even the Immaculate cinnamon rolls. Ok there are very few items in the frozen food section that are even usable for someone who makes healthy food selections. We make most of our food from scratch, however once in a while we grab a plain cheese Red Barron Pizza. Well, we certainly can't do that at Big Al's anymore. All pizzas are a choice of PIG, PIG or PIG otherwise known as sausage, pepperoni and the all new BACON! Who would choose those artery clogging heart-attack on a plate options??? Well cheese isn't super healthy either so I guess it's a sign... nothing left to eat at Big Al's but overpriced fruits and veggies. We'll shop elsewhere! read more

I've shopped at Big Al's occasionally because it is convenient for a few items, and you like to support the community businesses when you can. Unfortunately they have several young women cashiering at Big Al's that are just terrible. They are rude, slow, and hold up check-out because they are socializing with their friends. Sometimes the line is long and three of them will be standing at one check out as if no one is in the store. I've overheard customers say something to them and they immediately get an attitude. At their prices and with the very limited selections they carry, they should be providing good customer service at least. Who needs it when there are better stores. I am here in a very small town called Wheatland visiting my dad for a few days (I am from San Jose) .... my dad didn't have nay breakfast stuff for me to cook so his wife took me to the local market! Can I just say HOW CUTE is this store????? Since I am from a larger city and I don't see very many small nice and friendly markets that are at "regular price".... this small FULLY stocked market is just the cutest thing you have ever seen. The town looks like its straight from the movies.... everyone saying hi! This market is very clean... everyone had a smile on their face.... the young kids were very clean cut looking with clean aprons on stocking the shelves... I only went in for a few breakfast items, but I passed the meat department and it all looked very nice. They have pretty much all you need from bread and eggs... to produce and meats! This is a great little local stop if you live near or if the commisary at Beale is closed or on your way to Camp Farwest Lake and need some last minute food items. Granted the selections are not what you would find in a over done big city grocery that is trying to look like an intellectuals' coffee and wi-fi hang out spot; Al's is the place to find food that goes on your table and have the satisfaction about doing it. The contacts I have had with the employees have all been pleasant and am always checked out quickly. The selections at the meaty counter are always fresh and top quality. I live in rocklin but frequent wheatland often because my mom lives there. If I were just rating the meat department I would give 5 stars for sure! You can order sub sandwiches that are AMAZING and only about $6..however the store is extremely expensive and the staff isn't the most amazing as far as customer service goes so 3 stars it is. read more

Surprisingly well stocked grocery store considering how small it is. Beer selection is very impressive. They carry some higher end specialty grocery items which impressed me tremendously. Meat counter reminds of the local grocery stores of yesterday, where one could pick the exact steak one wanted and the ground beef is paddled out when the customer asks for it. Customer service is great. Friendly faces at every turn. Produce is artfully displayed with care. Prices are high, but you will not pay any more than you would at some of the bigger chains. There are some local products being sold, which I love. If you want discount goods, go to that kind of retailer. But if you want high quality goods from the local retailer, Big Al's is the place! read more

OK, yes many of the things "cost more" but let's be honest it's super convenient and I've found the prices pretty similar to safeway or Raley's.... plus it saves me a 15-20 minute drive to save maybe a few dollars... not worth my time... plus with the sales big al's has some pretty good deals which can make it cheaper than the other grocery stores read more

For being in a very small town Big Al's Market does offer quite a variety. Don't let the outside fool you. I love their fresh produce and their meat/deli section.
