Amazing subs! Great service! This is a classic pizza spot in Manistee! You really can't leave Manistee without trying this place! They have a huge team prepping food, taking orders and serving. The restaurant is always super warm inside so be warned! But there is lots of seating booth style, table style and a couple of picnic tables outside. They also have a bench for you outside if your waiting for an order. Parking is snug but not difficult as it's onsite. They are very busy, always! They always have great specials that vary on the day - you can find them up on the whiteboard before you order. This is a an order and pay first place, then you sit! They call out your name and bring you your order. You can purchase fountain drinks or bottled drinks! The subs are packed full of toppings and are delicious! Breadsticks are pretty big too! We always get the cheese sauce! Our favorite things are the Chicago style pizzas, Stromboli (an absolute must), and the subs. Although the pizza is great we feel it's way to greasy for us and can't really eat more than a bite or two of it. Overall this is a great local spot, with a ton of great food options that is always busy! You can really tell they support their community and patrons too by allowing them to advertise their business upon entering! My kids also love playing the arcade games and toy prize machines. Prices are reasonable and similar to other pizza places.

This place is a nice local dive. The service was quick, the staff was professional, and the prices were fair. We dined in, but I have to admit that the location could use a bit of cleaning. The restaurant was petty busy as we arrived at lunchtime, but they were moving at a quick pace. I ordered the BBQ chicken pizza, and it was delicious. The ingredients were fresh, and my pizza was made to order. The portion sizes are quite large, so bring your appetite. I would return to this location for a quick lunch. Everyone else in my crew had the Stromboli, and that seems to be their signature dish, and everyone seemed to be very satisfied with their order. The previous pictures from other reviews are representative of the Stromboli. I had a pizza and it was very good.

Going to see if my boss will let me work remote so I can move up here and eat Big Al's everyday. Have been here for a week and have had: 2 steak subs (both fantastic - get the horseradish sauce), cheesy breadsticks, pizza, and the Giant Stromboli. The bread for the grinders and Stromboli is basically their pizza dough, which is great. And the staff was super friendly.

Big Al's Pizza was recommended to me and my friends as the place that locals crave, so we stopped in on a rainy evening while camping at Orchard Beach State Park for some dinner. Luckily we were able to dine in because it was either that or eating in the car, safe from the rain! My friend told us to get the stromboli so of course we ordered that with some sauce on the side. We also ended up getting cheese bread and a huge pizza with sausage, bacon, and green peppers. Surprise surprise, it was a ton of food. The stromboli was definitely a 10/10 winner, with nicely toasted crust and packed with fillings. The sauce wasn't too sweet and was great for dipping. The cheese bread was covered in a thick layer of melted cheese - so delicious! If you don't like cheese, definitely don't even think about these. Finally, the pizza was good, but man the bottom crust was super soggy. The toppings were ample and deliciously fresh, but maybe a little over topped for the poor thin crust. It just couldn't stand up to the mountain of toppings. We had to eat the pizza with a plastic knife and fork. We would definitely go back to Big Al's for another stromboli! Maybe fewer toppings on the pizza next time.

While it was very American style pizza it wasn't greasy, the service was fast and it wasn't terribly dirty. The environment would be as expected

I did take out. The pizza was overly priced and the pizza bland and greasy. Go to Mancino's when crazing pizza in Manistee.

Some of the best Chicago style pizza I've ever had. It's a dive and not fancy at all but food is excellent.

Her warmth and friendliness was matched by the staff who made our dining experience so comfortable. We were promptly seated and received outstanding service. Portions were large and meals come with bread and a house antipasto salad. Our meals were exceptional. My wife had Chicken Saltimbocca and I tried Linguine with Salmon. Chicken was flavorful; salmon was perfect; the pasta was 4 star. The food was so good that we even ventured into a dessert (rare for us). We tried a lemon cake with glaze and VERY fresh strawberries; it was wonderful. A small restaurant that is a gem and well worth it. An outstanding dining experience. Exceptional food; the service and atmosphere were amazing.

(Rest of the party was long done by the time we got meals). Asked for the manager but our server (Liz?) said she was the manager and tried to fix it by cooking the steaks more - kinda was uncool to sit while everyone else ate while 2 of our party were waiting. Food : steaks (see above), pesto pasta was good. Heirloom tomato salad was very good but star was tomatoes themselves and presentation was odd with dollop of dressing on each tomato - needed some acidity in the dressing. Chicken saltimbocca was OK but very sweet. Nearby places were closed so we ordered dessert. Tiramisu wasn't very good and peach cake was dry but probably also tainted by the experience. They comped the dessert after we ordered. Bill was over $300 for a crappy experience. Wouldn't recommend. We were here 15 years ago and it was really good and we were looking forward to returning - we live 1600 miles away so it kinda was a big deal to return here over La Becasse. Oh well.

While looking for TJs in the downtown Manistee area, I commented how cool the historic exterior of the corner building was. Much to my pleasure, it turned out to be where we were heading. Walking up, several stories of crisp bricks greet you from the clean, quaint street. Walking in, you're hit with the casual, historic feel of an old building, with good smells wafting out of the back. The service was fast and friendly - we were seated within a minute, despite a pretty busy late lunch crowd. Our waitress checked on us multiple times through the meal, without being intrusive. A+ for this! We ordered chicken alfredo and the smoked Mac and cheese. Both came out of the over piping hot and fresh, loaded with cheese and sauce, and garnished with some fresh toasted baguette slices. The mac was topped with real bacon bits - none of the fake grocery store stuff. Portions were just right - I definitely could have eaten more, but I'm glad it wasn't there for me to gorge. It had the standard toppings--avocado, corn, black bean, tomato, tortilla chips. But the cheese was melted on top, like a kind of crunchy/chewey plate--it really looked like it was topped with a mini pizza. Not sure that enhanced the salad, but overall it was fine. Instead of dressing, it came with tubs of sour cream and salsa to mix in. I do that at home sometimes, so can't complain. The lettuce was fresh and crispy. Decent beer selection, including a quite a few bottled ones, which I hadn't noticed until after I ordered my pint of Two Hearted. Be sure to ask for a bottle menu. I sat at the bar and the server regularly looked in on me. Wasn't too noisy, in spite of the tight space that was full when I stopped in on a Sunday night. Nice little spot to check out in Manistee.

The restaurant itself had a beautiful, rustic and romantic atmosphere, and the hostess was lovely about accommodating our request for a quieter table. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill once our waitress began taking our order. She initially gave us great wine recommendations and was pleasant while explaining the specials. However, when I decided to order the white pizza instead of the trout because I wanted something lighter, her attitude completely changed. She became noticeably aggressive and dismissive, which made us feel as though we were being judged for choosing a less expensive item from the menu. The service continued to be disappointing. I had to ask for the complimentary bread, and I waited nearly 30 minutes for the second half of my wine. When we asked about it, we were abruptly told that the bar was busy. Her tone throughout the rest of the meal was extremely inconsistent, including literally yelling across the table, "How's the food?" It was so unexpected that my husband and I almost had to laugh. Unfortunately, the food itself didn't make up for the experience. The appetizers were decent, but our mains--the ravioli and white pizza--were very average and lacked flavor. We've been to many fine-dining and Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, and we understand that service can occasionally have an off night. What was disappointing here was feeling judged based on what we chose to order. Customers should feel comfortable ordering anything from a restaurant's own menu without being treated differently because of the price. The restaurant itself has a beautiful atmosphere and a lot of potential, but given our overall experience, we unfortunately won't be returning or recommending it to family and friends.
