Great food, great service and great atmosphere. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody that's looking for a really good breakfast.

We stopped by early for breakfast, only one person was working. She was the waitress & cook, my toast was really burnt I was never asked if I wanted a refill on my coffee. I did notice they sell homemade pies to go as well sweatshirts. read more

Save yourself the time and skip this place. There is so much wrong here, on so many levels. I have never encountered a more inept, poorly trained, and insufferable group of restaurant staff. There is a reason few succeed in the restaurant business. It is hard work if you do it well. The food was inedible. I ordered an omelet with home fries and toast. What arrived at the table did not resemble any omelet I have ever encountered. It was an clearly cooked at a temperature so high the outside turned into a burnt rubbery shell while the inside was an undercooked gelatinous mess. I cut into the omelet and it began to leak strange malodorous juices that quickly soaked into the home fries rendering even those inedible. The toast was so dry it seemed to have been cooked, reheated, and then buttered. Strange. Perhaps the real issue is that nobody in this establishment cares, about anything, ever? The food tasted of hopelessness and the bitterness of unfulfilled dreams. Dirty tables, dirty, floors, just gritty, and not in the cool greasy spoon with quality food kind of way. Horrible service. Lazy group of women who are on phones, gossiping and eating constantly next to our food. Prices are way expensive for what the kids get for a meal. I had to give up half my meal so they could get full. Hamburgers taste like frozen patties. Not homemade. Known for their pies? Yuck. They were fake. Not from scratch. I know a good pie. Stay away. My husband got the Michigan dog with the home made fries and I had the chicken pot pie with biscuits. Both were excellent and the biscuits were flaky and totally enjoyable. Also had the lemon meringue pie which is homemade and it was an amazing way to end. The waitress was on point and friendly and made sure everyone was taking care of. read more

I used to love this place as a kid. However their food and service has gone downhill since. The card machine didn't wanna work with my debit card and took forever for it to actually work. The food isn't very good quality anymore and isn't that great. The wait staff aren't very friendly either they're actually kinda rude. I have never given a review on here and generally give restaurants the benefit of the doubt on things, but this was some of the worst service I've ever encountered. There was one waitress and one cook. Okay, small town roadside diner, I can understand that. There were 3 other tables with customers and we had to wait to receive menus, again not a big deal. We were ready to order when she returned to take our drink orders. She said no, she'd get the drinks first. Then took another table's order before us. They were waiting longer, so alright, that can slide too. Our food took a while to arrive given only one cook. Portions were good sized for the price, however the omelette I had was quite greasy and overcooked. The edges were crispy. The home fries were pretty good, I won't be completely negative. We finished our meals and waited for the bill. Unfortunately the two employees were no where to be seen. We decided to wait by the register. Our waitress returned from the back EATING AN ICE CREAM CONE. The cook was outside taking a SMOKE BREAK. They left the dining room empty to take breaks at the same time? C'mon. Two other patrons were waiting to pay behind us as well. Unprofessional disappointing service. I normally tip at least 20% and more for exceptional service. This was one of only 2-3 times I tipped less than that. read more

A pleasant and welcomed surprise as my boyfriend and I were traveling to Vermont from New Jersey. We had some trouble finding a spot for lunch as we passed through Whitehall, NY. I saw this on Yelp (barely able to -- cell reception is almost nonexistent in this area) and passed it on Rt. 4. It's a quaint little place and not the coziest but the food was great, and that's all that matters, right? I ordered a grilled cheese which was delicious and came with potato chips and pickle slices. BF ordered the hamburger/macaroni soup and a BLT and we were both really happy with the food. There's not much to do in the area but it'a definitely a great place to stop along your travels! read more

I found this wonderful little diner while working in Hulletts Landing. I was providing catering to a film crew of 70 and with no time to make breakfast I had the great pleasure of teaming up with Buffy and the gals at Big Apple. More than a handful of times these ladies woke up early to make breakfast sandwiches, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and homefries for us. The sandwiches were always made with the freshest rolls and the eggs were fluffy and delightful. Thank you so much because you kept every belly full and happy for our long work days! Every now and then you're driving along and have a hunger building inside of you and decide to pop into whatever type of establishment that comes along. Well, thats what occurred when I came across this joint and I've been to enough roadside diners to know that you have an idea of what you're getting into, but really have no idea. Bellied up to a counter seat and studied the daily specials. Not an easy decision when there were about a dozen items on the list...kinda makes you wonder. Looked at the guy sitting a couple stools over and asked if that was the chicken...he nodded and a couple minutes later replied "it's dry"....cross that off. I ended up going with the pork roast, mashed potatos, green beans, and cup of homemade hamburg macaroni soup. Soup was good...not $3 good...but probably should've spent the extra 50 cents and upgraded to the bowl. Main meal was decent, nothing to write home about but the serving size was definitely filling and was surprised by finding two large slices of texas toast accompanying the green beans. Definitely a nice touch. The one thing that threw me off was the waitress/cook asked if I wanted gravy on the roast. Of course I do...who doesn't? If I would've opted out of the gravy, the meal would've been pretty bland and I don't really want to think about it. Anywho, all in all it was a decent joint. Not going to tell anyone to go out of their way for this experience, but it served it's purpose for the evening, which was to ease the hunger inside. read more

Stopped here for lunch with 3 other family members that had all been here before. I had the turkey club which was pretty good and came with a large portion of fresh cut fries. Service was prompt and very friendly. Cost for the four of us was $47 so not too bad for lunch. As for the place itself, it's a roadside dinner in a rural location so no big expectations there, but it's not a dive by any means. Overall, not bad at all and worth the stop if you find yourself in the area or passing by. read more

What a trick to pull on hungry travelers. The place, from the outside, looks so cozy and inviting, it just looks like the folks are going to be so kind and the food-to die for. Nope. Wrong. I rolled in here with two others, a couple of Saturdays ago, it was about 9am-9:30, on our way to fish Lake Champlain, anyway...the place was not very busy, just a few other tables were occupied, the restaurant appeared that they were over-staffed, plenty of people congregating behind the counter. We were seated immediately, our waitress was very curt, just fast, unkind, made us feel like we were intruding on something. I don't recall her name, but she was a Caucasian woman 40's, dull blonde hair, not tall-she didn't offer breakfast specials, we discovered the specials board, AFTER we ordered. One guy ordered French toast, his was fine, just bland, no huge expectations for French toast, he was lucky to get his one coffee refill eventually, that's all he said. Now, myself, and the other guy, we each ordered a "Breakfast wrap" or "Breakfast burrito" right from the menu. Keep in mind, it's $10 and something for this burrito, it's advertised as being delicious and stuffed with bacon and sour cream and salsa and eggs and whatever else. Man! these were HORRIBLE, yes the tortilla wraps (generic-awful!) were indeed HUGE, the wrap itself-not the contents. I unfolded mine and looked at the paltry amount of food inside, and how it looked-YUCK! Forget about it, hardly any bacon, I'm talking, I was lucky to find like a few rubbery bacon "bits" it was almost all onions and salsa believe it or not. Oh, the fresh sour cream, that came in a little tiny dixie cup on the side, and it was just smelling nasty and it was so watery. I folded this horrible looking concoction back up after adding some salt & pepper and I took a few bites from one half, that was enough. I tapped out. I wasn't in the mood for a gigantic flour wrap, a mouth full of onions, and watery sour cream. My traveling partner, he felt the same, he ate a bit less of it than I did, and his gut ached for a good while, not to be crass, but we had to make a stop at the very first accommodations. OH?! The home fries that came with these burritos? No flavor, they weren't home fries, they were frozen potato squares with ZERO seasoning, just bland, dull. No taste. My dog would hate them. What happened to the real home fries? There was nothing homie about this place. I hated it with a red hot passion. I hated paying for it. I hated tipping. The next time I'll either go to McDonalds or I'll see if there's a nice diner in Fair Haven, this was a putrid meal and a putrid experience. Cold, inattentive waitress and a horrendous couple of meals. Nice Job guys, you too, Chef! I wonder what the cook's story is? You hand out swill? Trash bag experience. I'm not happy. Stopped here with my husband while on our way to the Great Escape. The food was delicious, nicely cooked, and pretty satisfying while maintaining a nice price. I'm not sure how anyone could give this a 5 - star review. The food was absolutely disgusting. I got the hot meatloaf sandwich - not very good meatloaf with canned/jarred gravy on white bread, canned green beans, and frozen french fries. The rest of my family's food was similar quality. I ordered their homemade apple pie - fully expecting it to be mediocre at best - and it was inedible. I am far from a food snob but I took two bites and was done. And to top it all off, our waitress was rude and very snotty. I left crying it was so bad. We drove this route on way up from NJ. So crowded in Queensboro thought we would find something. We decided to drive through to Burlington and just be cautious. Then saw Willie's smoker and we're thrilled we stopped. On way back home we missed Willie's bbq cause he was not ready with food by 12:30 when we were traveling thru town. We went out of our way to take this route for Willie's bbq. So, we all had to use restroom and gave in thinking how bad could it be. We had a momentary lapse in judgement and should have walked out as soon as we saw how filthy this place was. Someone else mentioned they were nasty and miserable staff too. Snotty. I think they react that way because they have people come through and use the restroom and leave. As you should because if you eat here you are putting your life at risk. Lucky my husband and son did not get sick. Filthy and more filthy. Come on how hard is it to clean a plastic table cloth. Encrusted pie gelatin on the sides of the table. No self respecting person would live like this let alone serve food from an establishment like this. My husband ate his meal bbq chicken special, canned peas mush - he admitted inedible - fake canned gravy on mashed potatoes. I literally was crying and laughing with the windows down half the way home. I was so upset I even went in there. Nothing and I mean nothing was fresh. Maybe they could make a grilled cheese sandwich descent but are you sure they didn't drop the cheese on the filthy counter top. When we got home to NJ I made everyone take showers and brush their teeth. I will not kiss my husband for a week since he ate that crap. Absolutely putrid place. My son says he would eat the beef barley soup again before going to the McDonald's down the road and I am over reacting. I admit I may have watched too many of Robert Irvine's shows and all I could think about was some of the grossest things I have seen on his shows. But, If the tables and floors are that filthy then what is the kitchen like. Who knows Willie's bbq is just a stand with picnic tables outside. But it appeared clean.
