Had our second visit within a months span. The first visit our food tasted great but as kitchen employees ourselves, we could tell our plates had been under a hot lamp for a while. To the point where the hanger steak I ordered developed that glazed like look. We returned last night with some family from out of town hoping to show them a good place to eat. We arrived at 6pm We were seated as a party of 7 by 620 due to a canceled reservation. The problems started with our drinks. We ordered three sprite. All three came back without a LICK of syrup in them. No big deal that happens right. So after waiting about 25 minutes after getting our drinks we are finally blessed with presence from wait staff, who took BOTH OUR ENTREE AND APP ORDERS. The apps were great although we waited WAY TOO LONG. When the waiter arrived he stated the "kitchen was backed up". We were sat at 620 and was not severed our entrees until 813! The wait makes since as it was evident the host was not seating sections right. And wait staff were putting in 5 tickets at a time. But the wait can only be justified if the food is good and the service is on point. My brother who I was treating while home from out of state ordered the bone in ribeye which retails at $56. Not only did we wait forever for our food, when it arrived it was not prepared. He ordered a MEDIUM COOK. THE WAITER CONFIRMED "SO WARM PINK CENTER". This steak was brought out seared only. You could see the white fat striation on the meat still and the center WAS BARLEY WARM TO TOUCH. As it's such an expensive cut and amazing steak we asked it be sent back and PREPARED PROPERLY. At this point the waiter states "I'll have him throw it back on the grill for a few minutes." I told him it would need far longer to go from RAW to medium. About 4 minutes later he brings this steak out. It's been microwaved, something obvious by the shrinkage of the steak and the greying of the sear. Then had to gull to PUSH THE BONE UP TO THE STEAK TO HIDE THE STILL RAW MEAT. We got it back and it was still RAW. Through all of this the waiter was doing nothing to accommodate us. WE had to tell him to take it off the bill and all he did was offer us a shitty "wagyu" burger. My brother took him on the offer because at this point we're 2hrs in and he's starving. The burger was sent out UNDERCOOKED. HE ORDERED WELL AND GOT MEDIUM. The lettuce was BROWN and they BURNT THE BUN. I can't help but think this was done solely out of retaliation for sending back the chefs TERRIBLE WORK. I've attached photos. Food quality / price (value) rating 8.5. The atmosphere is contemporary open concept broken up by half walls. They have a good sized bar. I had the Prime Rib, which was served with plain mashed potatoes for a side. No bread or salad, or mixed vegetables, not even a little bit of parsley for color. The wife had the Halibut special, which was very good and presented nicely. They had some interesting desserts, and we split a NY style cheesecake, with a maple-pecan drizzle. There Beef dinners, however they season them is just perfection, we have been going to SouthSide for years now and they never disappoint ... the service is amazing, the food fabulous and the DESSERTS are out of this world ESPECIALLY there eclairs ... we have celebrated pretty much all our special occasions this last one being our 1st date 45yrs ago ... Thank you to Jenah, we love our table that's tucked into the corner with the front windows to people watch ... the restaurant is very comfortable and relaxing ... everyone has enough space to enjoy without having to be on top of one another ... I wish yelp had a five star plus rating because the team at Southside deserves a 10 out of five stars. I'm not going to say we dine here frequently but we do visit at least every month or so and have been doing so since we returned to Vermont years ago. Every visit has almost always been perfect and when anything is lacking it is immediately corrected to perfection. We visited tonight and while our experiences have always been amazing tonight was exceptional. Our server was the perfect level of attentive but not invasive and the food tonight was second to none. The chef executed a Pittsburgh Blue Wagyu Ribeye with a level of perfection that beats out a number of Michelin-starred locations I've eaten at! Don't even get me started about the amazing steak house cream filled eclairs! We look forward to our return soon for another amazing experience! That said the bar has now been raised in terms of our future expectations but I'm honestly not sure there is a level beyond the perfection we experienced tonight. Stopped by with my wife while on a weekend getaway. We had no reservation so sat at the bar to avoid a wait for a table. We enjoyed cocktails and some food. The service was top notch. Really nice restaurant for a special night out. Hours were short on Sunday 5pm-8pm and we arrived at 5pm and the restaurant filled up rather quickly. We started with an order if bread which was delicious and warm with a great crust. Then ordered some drinks, my girl really liked her lemon drop martinis. The Arancini app from the specials menu was ok but id probably try something different next visit. The tomato bisque soup was good but the french onion soup was better. Visually and taste-wise. My girl is picky with her seafood and opted for the crabcake dinner apprehensively and she said that the crab cakes may be the best she's ever had, and she lives on the seacoast!! Thank you. I enjoyed the pork chop dinner with spatzle and pickled cabbage. Overall it was a nice spot for a nice candlelit dinner on a special night. read more

Great atmosphere for cozy, relaxed dining experience. The clam chowder was rich and delicious, the top sprinkled with crispy bacon. The blackened swordfish was amazing, flaky and not dry at all. Roasted red potatoes were perfectly seasoned and delicious! My son raved about the truffle fries, they were "out of this world!" Our waitress was very attentive, friendly and professional. However If you have a gift card for Southside steakhouse they will only honor a small portion of what you think may be on the card. Southside is such a local gem! This is our second time visiting the area from NY & we had to make a stop here for my birthday dinner. To start off we got the bacon wrapped scallops and Caesar salad with anchovies. The bacon wrapped scallops are delicious and are in a syrupy drizzle. The Cesar salad is fresh and crisp and tastes like a regular Cesar salad. Our server Debbie never made us feel rushed because we got there at almost closing & were nervous about getting our order in before 9pm, but she ensured we wouldn't have an issue. For drinks my partner did the mule & I started with a Sangria. Later one I had a Pomegranate Cosmo, & Espresso Martini with dessert. The drinks were strong and the flavors were aromatic. For entrees, I got the NY Sirloin, which was perfectly cooked medium rare, and my partner got the Prime Hanger with truffle fries instead of the mashed potatoes. We both got surf and turf, shrimp & lobster. The lobster tail was the most tender I've ever had! We enjoyed our entrees and moved onto Creme Brûlée for dessert. The creme brûlée was good but I wish it was a bit creamier. Ambience was great, there are so many different sections some with small groups, families, etc. Traditional steakhouse lighting but bright enough to see and read the menus. This was my second time dining at southside steakhouse and it was just as good as the last. My boyfriend and I sat in the bar area and I must say the seats for the high tables were super comfy. Our waiter Brian was super attentive and such a nice guy throughout the entire meal. We grabbed a margarita and his usual captain and coke to start and they were strong which I loved obviously. The price matched the pour so something to keep in mind. We also ordered a dozen oysters which did not disappoint. I loved them! My filet was cooked to perfection and super tender with the bernaise adding an extra delicious touch to the meat. My whipped truffle mashed potatoes really sealed the deal for that entire round. The crème brûlée was probably one of my favorites to date. Super creamy and smooth once you broke through that layer of sugar. We absolutely can't wait to come back to try more of what southside has to offer. read more

I'm from Chicago and I eat steaks and red meat fairly often... This place is great. It's like an old school steakhouse in such a random location. We were visiting Killington for vacation and looking for better than pub food and found Southside Steakhouse reviews and decided to give it a shot. We had the French Onion Soup and salads for appetizers and they were really good. We then both decided on the wagyu burgers. They were very basic and came with no condiments. To be fair, the waiter asked if we wanted any after the food came. The burgers were outstanding. Perfectly prepared to our specs and the exterior had a nice crust and great flavor. I would have added butter to the bun and/or a little aioli or mayo, yet we added a little catsup and it was great. Fries were great. Service was great. Dessert we had the giant slice of chocolate cake and the skillet cookie. The cake was better and overall the desserts were just ok. But did I mention the wagyu burger was great?! A solid steakhouse that I overall enjoyed and had a great time at. I just think there were some things that could have been a bit smoother. We were excited to eat steak after a few days hiking on the Long Trail and made a seamless reservation at Southside. Our waitress was also absolutely pleasant and would be a huge reason why we would return. The food was great, overall, however they were out of several items. I understand that a lot of restaurants are offering a limited menu due to Covid but even so, they were still out of several of the available menu items, including the mozzarella fritti (how are you out of cheese?), the dry aged ribeye, scallops, and the ingredients for the mint julep (which is bourbon, simple syrup and mint). Again, our waitress was very sweet and would offer a suggestion after apologizing for not having what we wanted and we still left plenty full. The Delmonico steak was indeed a good replacement for the bone-in ribeye and was cooked perfectly and paired nicely with the mac and cheese and asparagus. We also ordered the Brussel sprouts which came out underdone. But the chef and waitress agreed they were so and were generous enough to remove the item from our bill. I'm chalking this up to an off night. I would absolutely return here the next time i'm in Rut vegas. read more

We went to this restaurant for a family gathering as a party of 7. The salads and soups took about 30 minutes to be served. Dinner: 5 Meals came out together followed by 1 several minutes later followed by the last meal about 20 minutes later after every one else was finished. The prime rib was unseasoned and cold. Probably the best restaurant in Rutland. Great service, gets really busy, no reservations unless you have eight or more people. Only open from 5-9pm. We arrive 5:30pm and it got packed within half an hour. Food takes a while since they're busy. Food was all amazing. Standard for the food seems very high. Oysters are as expected, salads are great portions to be shared with flavors all working together. French onion soup is as expected and very salty and rich in cheese. Mussels were good, nicely cooked with a tangy sauce great for bread dipping. Steaks took a while but when they came, roast prime rib was amazing and tender. Ribeye was a bit overdone, but good classic flavor, but a bit tough and chewy. Hanger was small portion, good price, and amazing caramelized onions. Fantastic meal and experience, and much cheaper than prices I'm used to in New York City. tl;dr get the roast prime rib if you're sick of chewy steaks, hanger if you're not sharing for that caramelized flavor, and wedge salad as a starter, and maybe the mussels to share. Going downhill fast. I went to this restaurant about eight times. I've had some good meals there but ironically not steak. The three times that I have ordered an extremely pricey steak it has come out not per order. Completely overcooked and charred. I do not like the taste of char first of all and when I order a medium rare steak in a steakhouse that I pay $60+ for I expect a chef to know how to cook it. Slim pickings in Rutland Vermont and this was normally my go to. It's time for a change. If you're a steakhouse and you're charging what this restaurant charges for a good cut of meat your chef should know how to cook it. I'm not an à la carte kind of person. I like to at least have a side salad or a vegetable offered with my meal. South side does not offer this, not even house bread. I can get three times the meal in an equivalently nice atmosphere elsewhere. I wouldn't say I wouldn't go back but I won't be going back anytime soon or nearly as often. I have to say I was very disappointed in the Mother's Day buffet. Last year we went it was spectacular. We had an antipasto salad, shrimp cocktail, and the quality food was really good. This year there was nothing on the salad bar except marinated mushrooms and cherry tomatoes with mozzarella. They gave us a loaded potato soup, which is really cheap to make instead of a seafood bisque. The beef instead of it being like prime rib, was a small round, kind of like eye round the pasta station was very basic and I didn't like the sauce. In the chaffing dishes were chicken Small Fish fillet that was stuffed which seem like it had only breadcrumbs in it no crab meat. The string beans somewhat cooked and some look like they were over cooked or mixed together. The best thing on the buffet was the mashed potatoes, Lots of desserts, which were good. Table bread was offered but we noticed there was a cost associated with it--a first for us--so we politely declined. One of us ordered a glass of soda that arrived more than half filled with ice. That's generally a good thing, but upon learning that it cost $3 and it didn't include refills (we found out that they started charging to refill fountain drinks on 7/1/22), paying that price for 6oz of soda seemed pretty ridiculous. Went for burger night with husband and daughter. Service was excellent. Atmosphere was really nice and cozy. Beautiful after their renovation. Got the mozzarella appetizer and it was really good. Sauce was a bit spicy, really good. You get 3 triangles per order. Hubby and I got burgers. They were ok. Cook was good, toppings were hood and fresh. Bun was a little stale. They came with truffle fries. They were ok but it would have been better with well executed regular fries. Our daughter got a garden salad with grilled chicken. She liked it. Date night at Southside, half price wine on Mondays. We had the wedge and hangar steak, both were delicious. Definitely would recommend.

Great service and beautiful setting . Tables are well apart and you don't feel like sitting on top of your neighbors.
