Discovered the Wheel Inn by chance as we were driving home from vacation and it was incredible! We ordered grilled cheese sandwiches, which were simple but delicious and really hit the spot. A drive to the middle of nowhere brought us to this breakfast joint. Rustic, but very clean and well kept, the menu was just what we were looking for. We even started with a home made chocolate eclair which was to die for. I opted for the house made corned beef hash (just right, not too salty or greasy) while my wife ordered the sausage gravy and biscuits (massive!) The prices were a bit high, but considering the quality of the food, we didn't mind. We were amused by the locals who seemed to be related to the staff or owners who played with a cat and walked into the stock room. The restaurant is in the middle of nowhere but it's worth the drive (20 miles for us). They have good solid fare such as burgers, chicken & biscuits, veal parmesan, liver with onions & bacon, fried haddock, etc. I've recently had the haddock baked in parmesan cheese and another night had pork chops with mashed potatoes & gravy (yum). My wife goes primarily for the desserts, especially the coconut creme pie. I like the carrot cake with a little whipped cream. Portions are huge so we usually have enough for several nights...The ambience is rustic but nice and clean. They offer delicious food (such as beef from Bridport, Cabot cheese, locally baked rolls) and a zillion varieties of homemade pies and other desserts (ALERT: one dessert serving feeds 2-3. The Wheel Inn offers authentic, homemade New England comfort cuisine. The portions are generous. Our group ordered chicken and biscuits with peas, the hot turkey sandwich, and two wheelburgers. The latter are popular with guests. The meat is locally sourced and you can taste the difference. The hardest part about the restaurant is saving enough room for pie--there's almost a dozen fresh pie choices for dessert. The spot has a wonderful home feel to it and plenty of locals. Worth the drive to the charming small town of Benson if you are visiting Vermont in the summer months. There is a full bar and wide selection of local Vermont beers. read more

We go out of our way to make the trip to Benson specifically to eat at The Wheel Inn. The portions are crazy huge. The food is exceptionally home made. The size of the desserts are out of this world. Two of my friends and I decided to go here for dinner, as I had been here before years ago and I remember it being so delicious. We arrive for our reservation and upon arrival, no one working there was wearing a mask. We were placed at our table and as were sitting there chatting, a cat walks out of the kitchen .. and then proceeds to go outside. This cat is obviously familiar with the outdoors and is allowed in the kitchen where customers food is being made? Our waitress was also so rude. She made us feel rushed to order food, and then she completely forgot about us so we kept asking the other waitress to help us. Aside from the completely disrespectful waitress, the cat coming out of the kitchen into the dining area, the tables not being placed 6 ft apart, and the employees not wearing masks. Great place.... The food is excellent.... They always have at least 10 pies available.... We had the maple walnut pie and the winners circle pie.... The maple walnut was amazing.... It's like a pecan pie but better.... There was a maple sauce poured over it, delish.... The winners circle pie is a toll house pie, also excellent.... Monday is Mexi-Monday's.... I had a chicken chimichanga that was awesome.... They brought out two huge chimichangas, it wouldn't have been offended if there was only one, that's how huge they are.... Never been here before, and I will never come back. The food was alright, for not even receiving what I ordered. Asked for condiments to burger On the side (food allergy but others in party were going to eat it) received them on my burger was told to "take them off myself". Was also missing half the condiments it was "supposed" to come with. Asked if ketchup/mayo came on it. Was told "this isn't McDonald's, we're not going to do it for you". Confirmed that it came with chips and a pickle. Got fries, and was expected to pay up charge for the waitresses mess up. Not to mention that she was extremely rude. Went for breakfast and were the only ones there. The burrito was served with raw onions and peppers, was watery and an overall mess. The omelette was a scrambled egg folded in half with the omelette filling added to the middle rather than making an actual omelette. The orange juice was store bought and hot good. But here's the kicker. The bill was was inflated by 20 percent. Every item was higher than it should have been. We got charged $40 for an omelette, a burrito and three glasses of oj. The price should have been $33 with tax. I would be wary of going here ever again. Had I not been cheated, I would have given a higher score. read more

This is a restaurant in the middle of nowhere. If you don't want to eat here there's a taco stand in the middle of a corn field down the road, but I can't vouch for that place. When you walk in you are greeted with the smell of an old musty house that's never been updated. Leak in the bathroom ceiling in the mens room, but they've got that covered. There's a bucket underneath where the toilet brush goes. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. It didn't suck.....look I don't know what to tell you. What are you going to do? Not eat? Ps. The next place is 40 miles up the road and it's called "the halfway house". Halfway to what I don't know cuz I'm not going there but that's another option for you. read more

The Inn's begging for a handy person's touch, but the staff are friendly and the berry crisp heavenly. For a very modest price, we were served an enormous bowl crowned by thick whipped cream over vanilla ice cream on top of the crisp and all over a luscious combination of summer berries. So grateful we were not asked if we wanted the whipped cream, as conscience would have demanded that we decline. The dish is so deep, it comes with ice cream soda spoons and was good to the last lick. When traveling Rte. 22A up to Burlington, take a left at the sign for Benson and find the Wheel Inn about ten minutes away. read more
