Really cute diner with equally cute decor. Great food and service. Good value as well. The burgers look great and next time I'm in town I'll get one. For now I'll report on the meals we had. Short stack (sorry mom, these were great and better than yours). My hash and sunny side up egg with rye toast and home fried potatoes were really tasty too. It's not a place I would "recommend" unless you were looking for anyplace to eat breakfast in Granville. It's not "the best place". It's the only place. Otherwise Granvillians eat at Dunkin' Donuts or McDonald's. Both have long lines, sometimes stretching out to the street. But if you want to sit, Pine Grove is your place. A seemingly modest spot (excuse the workaday exterior) serving up classic diner fare. I stumbled upon this place last weekend driving south and was absolutely knocked out by the quality. Homemade corned beef hash cooked exactly as I asked (well done), 2 fried eggs over ez and rye toast. Simple and outstanding. Very good service and pricing. The Pine Grove is my usual stop on Sunday morning. They are always busy! The business has taken great precautions to keep us safe during these Covid times, with barriers between the tables. This place has not lost it's charm. But the place has new owners and they are not as warm as the previous! One of the waitresses is still there and she is great! The big bear is still big and filling! The coffee is still pretty good. I think the hotdog joint next door maybe taking a huge chunk of the regular patrons from here. I hope the new owners read this and start becoming more personable with the customers. These small establishments will not thrive without that personal touch. The owners daughter was there and she needs to not be onsite she has a horrible attitude and is lazy. read more

Been dining here for 30+ years on my vacations "back home" from Atlanta, GA. Mostly breakfast... and I cannot remember ever having a sub-par experience. Big Bear will leave you holding your belly on the way out the door.... Momma Bear is perfect unless you're starving, or your "eyes are bigger than your belly". Love the family atmosphere, and their genuine interest in "how's your mom and dad doing?" And they serve REAL maple syrup... unheard of down here in the South. Great "specials". Costs half of what restaurants charge in the Big City! Great food, great value, great service, great atmosphere. read more

Went to this place during breakfast hour. No customers but my boyfriend and I, so I figured a great welcoming and not much of wait for food. Unfortunately, it wasn't so. We did get greeted, but after we waited a moment while the waited was taking to a off duty Co worker or friend, took our order and again, after getting our drinks went back to chit chatting with her friend. It was a bit awkward and I didn't feel comfortable as I would hope. When food came out, it was warm, but the eggs weren't seasoned at all. Plain, but edible. I absolutely love this little spot. Super friendly service and old timey atmosphere. The wooden interior is super cute and they have little trinkets everywhere. I always make it a habit to stop through this breakfast place when in town. The menu it's super big but they have everything I could want. Large portions and a full cup of coffee. Their omelets are the bees knees. My only complaint is that the coffee is weak sometimes. read more

The best place to eat breakfast or lunch in Granville is without a doubt the Pine Grove. The Kruegers who own it are some of the nicest people in you'll ever meet. The food is good, the service quick, and the prices low. A winning combination every time. It has a lot of local color for sure, but they sell coffee cups and t-shirts and the like for tourists and it definitely appeals to the Adirondack-leaf-peeper-skier-touristy crowd. They also operate a motel and I would imagine that a lot of the tourists do the lodge and lunch routine. The only negative in my opinion is that they don't serve dinner. It sucks when the best restaurant in town is closed by 2 in the afternoon. Five stars all the way!!!!! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I ordered breakfast this morning to go. I live about 3 minutes from here so it should've been fine when I got home. There was 3 of us that ordered. We got 2 big bear specials, a bagel with cream cheese and a waffle with strawberries, 3 orders of hash, and an extra order of home fries. We did not receive our coffees for the big bear specials. We didn't get our extra home fries. We didn't get our sausage with our big bear specials. We didn't have all of our hash either. We had called to ask about the hash (as that was the first thing we noticed at the time) and the woman told us all 3 orders were in one to go box. I'm not even kidding you, that was NOT 3 orders worth of hash. Our pancakes for the big bear special were also mixed in with our over easy eggs and uncooked and unseasoned home fries. The to go boxes also suck. They were all soggy and folding in on themselves. And our food was absolutely FREEZING cold. It's like they had made it and let it sit. And to top it all off, it was $50!!!! $50 for cold, soggy food and we didn't get our whole order!! It sucks because pine grove used to be my favorite place to go to. The woman that waited on me was also rude. I didn't catch her name, unfortunately. Also no one was wearing a mask. NYS mandate is to wear a mask. I know some people will call me a "snowflake" but people need to do their part to put this all to an end. read more

You won't find any gourmet items on the main menu - stick the basic fare - and you'll love it. If you go a few times, you'll be treated like a regular which means being welcomed by your first name. Another fun little fact-- You'll share the diner with dairy farmers, artists, local business owners, entrepreneurs, towns people, and local contractors. It's fun to be around this nice mix of people. On weekends this will include family's from the NYC Tri-state and Boston area traveling through the area for a weekend in the country. read more

Perfect breakfast and lunch place. Today i had a cheeseburger and coffee. The burger was cooked perfectly and the bun was toasty.. Both were great. I can't say I'm impressed. The service is very slow, and the Sysco truck outside says it all. You ask for hash towns and if you get five on your plate that's a lot. The pancakes are nothing but a cakey hot mess. I live I lets but the canned mushrooms and coldness to theirs is disgusting. My husband ordered eggs and they were raw.. Just a horrible experience. Family run, warm and friendly place to go. Great for breakfast and lunch. Closes promptly at 2 pm. Sunday breakfast all day (til 2). Great portions and reasonable prices. To me, family tradition has held thru ownerships of both the Kruegers and now the Brills. . . all long-time area residents and wonderful, caring and hard-working folks but in no way the yokels the summer seasonal city people expect to take advantage of.
