This place is such a reliable, responsible, skillful hidden gem. I have a pair of beautiful sandals from PRADA. PRADA doesn't make this anymore and one of a kind. Maybe 10 years old or more. I don't remember when I got this. The insole had been seriously wearing out and very dirty as it was grayish silver satin silk insole. But it was not easy to say good bye. I brought them to Tony and he showed me possible materials to fix it. I picked one suede gray material. Oh my. He did beautifully restore my sandals. This job was not easy. This sandals front part I needed to fix was that the previous silk materials were rolled in between the insole (you can see as a design) and outsole. So, you need to disassemble the sole. Amazing Amazing amazing job. I will come back with my another chanel black silk bow sandals which are also wearing out in the insole. I paid $45 for this amazingly beautiful job for insoles, materials and changed the heel protector x both shoes. If in manhattan where I live, the heel protector change can be already $20. He charges me $80.00 and only repairs the heel of the dress shoes and said that's what I asked for.. who just gets a heel repaired? Brought my boots to this place after a hole let rain water in and he "fixed" the heels. I had to bring them back a few weeks later because that didn't fix the problem. He DENIED ever having fixed the boots in the first place and refused to make it right. So I had to bring them to another place and pay again to fix what he didn't fix in the first place. I ended up leaving because he seemed overwhelmed with it being the end of the day and spoke to me like I was his child and not a customer. I took my bag and walked out. When you bring in a pair of shoes for repair and they come back in worse condition than when you brought them in you should definitely go somewhere else. The person behind the counter barely spoke English and the owner was incredibly rude when I explained to him that my soles were cracked and he said I brought them in that way. I would not recommend Big Apple Shoe Repair. I brought in 2 expensive leather bags and was told to come back in 2 weeks. I went back several times, owner of the store kept putting me off and telling me to come back because the leather he had ordered to fix the bag was not in, another time, not the leather he wanted etc.... After several attempts, and a very busy life, working full time, finding parking on Mama'k Ave on a Saturday, some time went by. I went back again a few months later and he could not find the bags and YELLED at me telling me I waited too long and he was not responsible. Terrible way to run a business and I am out two very expensive bags! I wish I had the time to take him to small claims court. Never Never again! read more
