Another 5 star review for this place. We have been here twice in the last month. We stopped by yesterday morning for brunch before heading back out of town. The host greeted us and sat us in the covered patio area, which was perfect. Our server did a wonderful job taking care of us. My wife again ordered the Yard Work which she absolutely loves. My friends convinced me to try this place again due to location being a convenient meeting spot for our group. So, I had a veggie omelet and a side of fresh fruit, and a cranberry juice for about $20. Omelet veggies were varied levels of cooked and raw with some being tender and others being chewy/crisp. Fruit dish was 2/3 acceptable freshness with many blueberries being shriveled/discolored and strawberries and watermelon at the mushy stage. The final negative impression was when our waitress brought our checks and asked that we tip her in cash if possible and not on our credit card slips. Interesting. Well I recently went again and it was only so-so. The ham and cheese omelette had a disgusting amount of ham and only a few shreds of cheese. I usually love the side of greens but this time they were not great. Some brown and wilted pieces and almost no dressing. So I probably won't go back. Sad. read more

My husband and I lucked out and arrived just in time for parking and to be seated without a wait. The entire time we were here there was a wait for a table. BUT the good news is, the wait would have been worth it. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant with bright light and diner like tables throughout. The service was quick and very friendly. I came here for breakfast on 3 of the 4 mornings I was in Louisville for work. That should give you an idea of what I think of the place! Open at 7a in a sleepy neighborhood business district, this is exactly what you need to start your morning right (or to treat your late night hangover the next day). The place is bright, cheery and has some fun artwork to look at. They do not hold back here on all the things that are probably not good for you but make you very happy to be alive: Lard, Salt, Bacon, Gravy, Biscuits, Butter, Hot Sauce. If you can't find something to like here, you are either a severely repressed vegan or dead. I can definitely vouch for their homemade biscuits that have a black pepper kick to them, their homemade green hot sauce, the local andouille sausage (also with more than a kick to it), and their gravies. I have had sausage gravy before and having it here is as good as anywhere. But I had never had "Red Eye" gravy so decided to try it. It is a savory thin sauce made of pork fat drippings, coffee, some vinegar and probably sugar, and lastly some chopped up bacon bits at the bottom. I think I actually saw God when i tried it for the first time. It was a revelatory experience. This was my first trip to Louisville so I don't have a lot of experience with the local breakfast eateries. But I think I hit the jackpot with this place and have no reason to go anywhere else when I am back in town. read more

Had a real good brunch here. Finally was able to grab a table without a wait as it's normally packed on weekends. The good part is they have Yelp Waitlist so you can show up right when you need to be there. The stores nearby are sort of hipster and funky - art supplies, small gifts, consignment stores - so there's a lot to do while waiting. Food options are extensive. We opted for their classic biscuit sandos, which were pretty filling. Kid ordered French Toast, which looked amazing - brioche fried and decked out with fresh hipped cream, fruit, and maple syrup. It was gone quickly as it was pretty tasty. They have bottomless regular coffee which is a nice touch. All in all, it has a very informal vibe that is good for kids and low key groups. Cathead biscuit was fantastic. Chicken was soo perfectly crisp and juicy, gravy meshed well with the biscuits. Server Erin recommended it. She also recommended Biscuit crumble and Screamin Demon. We got the crumble, there were too many tomatoes making it too acidic for my boring palette. We also got the oyster scramble, the meats in which was quite salty for me and I remembered my dislike for pork I discovered when I was 5 years old. The creole omelette was a little salty as well but overall was nice, though a bit expensive. The French toast was tasteless on its own and oily but the syrup wasn't too sweet or artificial tasting, which was nice. Biscuit dipped in blackberry preserves and strawberry jam was fun to try. Bruleed grapefruit was refreshing if you've never tried one before. Hash cake was just like any other. Nice sitting area and they had a good outdoor space available too. They don't add tips to your total so bring some cash. All in all, a nice experience, but stay away from the non-chicken meats if you don't like salty. It will set you back $80 and 8000 calories for the pics attached. We did get someone else's food at first. We thought, so fast, we waited 1 minute! But it wasn't ours, we waited around 20mins. This is the best fried chicken in town. And that's not even what they are doing as their main thing. The biscuits are not like a completely traditional southern biscuit, but that is perfectly fine. The chicken and waffles is legendary and, again, I eat a lot, and I will tell you that this is the best chicken and waffle in town . I do think that they should use real maple syrup but given the scale, they made the best choice. They use our local grits and the food is always perfect. I'm going to circle back here, because I want to make sure you understand: This fried chicken is everything. The oil is always clean, it's always correctly done, it is tender all the way through, and it's crispy all the way around. The breading on it tastes like they do it in the back which I'm pretty sure they do. Nothing about it tastes premade. I'm a local. I come here on days I want to make my whole day better. She jokingly said well I'm sure by now you know what you want it took about 25 minutes to get our food which was huevos ranchero grits and shrimp Po boy. Husband said his meal was delicious, my Po boy on the other hand left a lot to be desired. We stopped in for breakfast with the family on a Sunday morning! Something we recently discovered is BBB doesn't take reservations but you can call ahead. We lucked out and went early enough that we didn't need to call ahead for our party of 6. Be aware, the parking lot of tight right next to the building, I'd suggest parking in the additional parking lot across the street from the alley - tons of spaces and isn't a tight squeeze between the building and cars parked. If you remember Lynn's Paradise Cafe, the building has changed so much since a number of restaurants have occupied the space. It's very airy and bright and has three dining sections: outside, front airy room, and main dining area. The menu has a wide variety of breakfast items including biscuit sandwiches, traditional omelets, pancakes/waffles, skillets and speciality items. We ordered the biscuit sandwich with side of hash brown cake, the Jack Benny (with hollandaise sauce), and two waffles with the fruit on the side. Food came out pretty quick for a semi full restaurant - our server even suggested a homemade hot sauce which I absolutely loved with my biscuit. The service was super fast and very friendly. The food was solid. I liked the Big Bad Cold Brew, which was strong and a generous amount. I got the Yard Work Skillet, and they offered a gluten-free bread option -- I'm pretty sure it was just Udi's, which isn't my favorite, but I appreciated that they had something. We also got a Big Bad Breakfast plate to share, and my boyfriend got the Belgian Waffle. We got all that extra food to bring home for leftovers, and the skillet leftovers didn't travel well but everything else was good reheated. The BB Hot Brown was delectable with biscuits as the base, yummy cheesy sauce, fried egg. Juicy turkey, tomato and Tabasco-rubbed bacon! I mean come on.. a great update to the traditional hot brown! For our larger party of 8 service was efficient. Several people tried the breakfast plate and breakfast skillet with not a morsel of food was left on the plates! We were in town visiting with our pup and were looking for pet friendly restaurants to enjoy. It was down pouring outside when we got there and found out that our pup could dine with us inside. We were so surprised but our pup loved the experience. She sat quietly under the table and just enjoyed the folks saying hi to her and the music and lights. The staff was super friendly, and we got a few different things to try. I got a scrambler where everything was all in one vessel and it was delicious. We strolled into BBB on a Sunday like brave adventurers entering a bustling food kingdom. We were told the wait would be 20 minutes--no problem. We've trained for this. We've waited for concert tickets, Black Friday deals, and the microwave to beep. But then... 20 minutes became 30. 30 became 45. Tables sat empty for long periods of time before people were seated. Meanwhile, the host stand operated at the speed of a sloth on vacation. When we were finally seated, we thought the battle was over. Oh, how naïve we were. Another 45 minutes passed before our food arrived. The food wasn't hot at all. By this point, I half expected to see the chef hand squeezing the OJ. Now, the food took just as long to be served, but our server was a rockstar--friendly, attentive, and clearly doing their best in the Hunger Games of Sunday brunch. I found my health ego being boosted by this after my conscious was guilt tripping me for ordering it. Now time for the mac daddy, the BIG... Naughty... Dirty... Bad to the Bone HOT BROWN. If flavor town were to have a water fountain, it would be bubbling with this recipe all blended into one thick pasty juice. My first time having a hot brown and it was fantastic! I really enjoyed this place! I became acquainted with them at The Gravy Cup biscuits and gravy competition. I was in the area and was very excited to finally be able to give them a try. I ordered the big bad hot brown, number one on their specialties section in the menu. Hot browns always disappoint, I don't know why I keep giving them a chance every time I see them on the menu.
