Gaslight Diner is an undiscovered gem off the beaten path. Why go to Cracker Barrel or Waffle House when there is the Gaslight Diner?! We came here mid-morning on a Monday and there were only a few customers. We were served by the best server, Beth. She was cordial and knew the menu inside and out was unafraid to make recommendations, perhaps steering you away from some of the menu items. The highlight of my visit was the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Absolutely and totally the best Grilled Cheese Sandwich I've ever had the pleasure to eat. Made with Texas toast, the sandwich was grilled perfectly and delicious. Gaslight needs to market their Grilled Cheese Sandwich recipe. It's really that good! JP ordered a Mushroom Burger. He declared it the best mushroom burger ever! Excellent meat! Our friend ordered the Avocado Omelet. She found it to be very good, though perhaps the avocado could have been a bit fresher. Gaslight has desserts. Based on our server's recommendation, I purchased a chocolate and peanut butter square. It was absolutely delicious. This is definitely now our go-to breakfast/brunch spot in the J-Town/Fern Creek area. read more

On the plus side the service was very good and very attentive. We both ordered the Pick 2 lunch special. My half sandwich was fine but the vegetable soup was meh to be honest. My wife was less impressed with her food and had initially thought of ordering something else. Perhaps we should try breakfast if we were to go back there. It's street parking only but we were able to get a spot nearby. Watterson Trail can be busy so be careful getting in and out. read more

Gaslight Diner knocked it out the park on all phases. Food + service + wait time + overall impressions. I have passed this place a million times and finally tried it. Encouraged by the positive reviews, it lived up to the expectations. All the food was hot, terrific, and nothing disappointed at all. Friendly laid back kind of place that is spaced out really well. All the customers were relaxed and chill. My food was ready when I got there. As far as parking in front of restaurants may be tricky since traffic can build up at the stop light, but I solved that by parking just a few buildings down from it. It made for a nice walk and easy exit. You betcha I will return and explore more of their menu. read more

I had such a nice solo lunch here! As soon as I walked in, I was loving the vibe. Very vapor-wave with a rocking 80's soundtrack! I was greeted and sat immediately by the very sweet staff. It took me a minute to order because I was going back and forth between breakfast or lunch. But ultimately, I chose a cup of the veggie soup and a grilled cheese. The food took a minute to come out but I totally didn't mind! It was a fun environment and I was enjoying my book, (coincidentally, about the start of MTV which happened to perfectly fit the theme of the diner LOL!) The soup was chock full of veggies and steaming hot and the grilled cheese was perfectly buttery and melty. I know it's a simple meal, but I just adore a diner that can get simple right! We had never been here but decided to place a to go order to try it out, I typically don't like to leave negative reviews but I feel this place has such potential so I hope the criticism is taken well and helps improve things. The good: order was correct and just what we asked for, was ready quickly. The bad: your menu needs descriptions, if you are looking online it doesn't say anywhere if your sandwiches or entrees come with sides or not. The switch to the toast app to order online is so inaccessible that I decided to call instead. For example, there are multiple free kids meals on the toast site which I'm sure is incorrect, and the salads are completely nonexistent minus the side salads so you can't even order a salad online. It's a jumbled mess. The dressing for the salad we ordered was not in the bag. The pretzels were burnt. Like hard as a rock burnt. There's NO way that wasn't noticed before being boxed up. The onion rings...also burnt, coconut shrimp wasn't burnt but had zero flavor. The sandwiches were good, fries were just ok but nothing to rave about. All in all, needs work. read more

Met a friend for lunch here recently and it started out well. Sat quickly, got drinks quickly, ordered the tater tots appetizer with beer cheese dip and they came out looking good but were still frozen on the inside. I called the server over and he took care of it pretty quickly and they took the appetizer off the bill which was very nice. I ordered the mushroom Swiss burger with onion rings and my friend ordered the fish sandwich with french fries. Both meals were adequate, but not knocked our socks off. We did have to keep hunting down our server a few times and it was a mildly busy Saturday so the routine should've been flowing a little better. I didn't hate this place but I think I expected more from it and I'm not sure I'll be back. read more

I was quite pleased to discover this large downtown diner during the breakfast hour this morning. A friend of mine doing business nearby joined me shortly thereafter. My/our server Aaron immediately greeted me in a sincere and friendly way. I initially was going to just check out the menu but after such a warm welcome decided to have coffee and food. When I commented to Aaron that the coffee was very good, he said that it was ground fresh there. He was a great server throughout our visit. The inside was very nice and fun with blue holiday lights strung high, a long bar, and plenty of places for seating. The menu was extensive and not too expensive with lunch and dinner served all day and healthy options. My friend and I split the grilled chicken breast sandwich on a brioche bun and upgraded the side from French fries to hush puppies. I have had better for both, but I certainly do recommend this establishment and would be glad to return. Oh, we also liked the music. Classic rock was played and the volume was not overbearing. read more

Even though we live in J-Town, we hadn't been to Gaslight Diner since it opened a few years ago. We drive by it all the time, often with a mention of "we should try that place sometime". On a recent Sunday we decided to try Gaslight Diner for lunch (late brekkie). I walked away with a two-word impression: Not Impressed. We entered around 11:15 am and the restaurant was, generously speaking, half full. We walked in the back door and a server (whose name we later found out by accident) was Mason. (He never did introduce himself.) We sat at the first four-top inside the door, directly in front of the bar. After a little bit of confusion one of the other servers told Mason that our table was his. We sat down and he went (presumably) to take care of other existing tables. He came back quite a bit later to give us our menus and to take our drink orders...then he went somewhere else again. We perused the menu while trying to decide what we wanted and we had plenty of time. I'm guessing it was over ten minutes before he returned to take our orders. I ordered the Tex Mex omelet with rye toast, wifey ordered the breakfast plate (also with rye toast). "Ok, I'll get this keyed in and you food should be out before long". Over 10 minutes later Mason stopped by to tell us that "the kitchen is kind of backed up, you food will be out in 15 to 20 minutes". We nearly got up to leave with that piece of news, but we hadn't been here before and wanted to give it a fair shake. We're already over 20 minutes into this visit with nothing to show for it aside from two glasses of iced tea. I have a hard time buying into the "kitchen is kind of backed up" notion, given the restaurant wasn't near half capacity and as we sat waiting there were more people that left than there were that entered since we sat down. Just about 15 minutes later our food arrived. My wife's hash browns weren't hot. They weren't even warm. Apparently the eggs and the bacon were good, but that plate went back. Hot food Hot is the name of the game, not Hot food Room Temperature. About five minutes later her plate came back out, this time with hot hash browns. My omelet wasn't as hot as it should have been, but you could tell that the heat lamp that I'm guessing it sat under at least warmed it above room temperature. I didn't want to send it back. We were too far into it at this time. Incidentally, if you opt for the Tex Mex Omelet, be warned: It's very light on the ham. Light, as in 5 or 6 little chunks. Plenty of Jalapeños (not a complaint), but if you're looking for a decent amount of ham, this isn't it. The rye toast that we both ordered apparently had been near a toaster at some point, but it was, in no fashion, freshly toasted. It wasn't even the slightest bit warm. The butter we spread on it looked up at us as if to say "Are you for real? This isn't even warm enough to melt me!"....and it didn't. At all. Oh...and butter. We had to ask for butter. The toast arrived room temperature, without butter. As I mentioned, our server kept going into some kind of dead space because he'd go away for a length of time and then come back. Overhearing a couple of the other servers, apparently he had some family members in another part of the restaurant dining at the same time we were, which explains his frequent absences. With that knowledge to explain why he wasn't around much, it rather made us feel, for a large part of this visit, like an afterthought. He was pleasant and helpful, but being attentive wasn't a big selling point. The majority of the staff was busy hustling and taking care of other customers, cleaning and stocking. The place was generally clean, but the floors were oddly sticky when you walked on them. Yes, we waited a few years to visit the Gaslight Diner. Based on this visit, I don't know that we're compelled to visit again. On our way out my wife made an observation. She said "I can tell you weren't impressed because you didn't take a picture of your food". That says a lot. read more

I'm learning I enjoy lunch options here more so than the breakfast. Gaslight Diner wowed us today with their BLT, bologna sandwich, chicken sandwich, rueben sandwich and biscuits and gravy. The fries are good but don't blink on the upgrade to a side salad or onion rings. If you're looking for summer cocktails they have you covered too. Our server was friendly and attentive. We waited a bit for our order but I believe we walked in when the crowd was larger. Their new patio tables were full! We sat inside and there's plenty of seating there as well, including bar seating. The space is a casual diner, just as it's named. Parking is available on the street and typically not as an issue to find. read more

I ordered coffee (which was damned decent I gotta say) and The Veg: seasoned home fries topped with 2 eggs (I chose over easy) and mushrooms, onions, baby spinach, tomatoes, peppers, cheddar cheese. Said it came with avocado but I never got it. They were setting up for some kind of festival or street fair the day I went but I would like to go again when things are more normalized. read more

We've wanted to try Gaslight Diner for so long as J-Town residents but haven't had the timing work out for us until recently. We decided to give it a try for a brunch date! The dining room area is very cool and looks almost like an old retail store. (It may have been at one point.) Very spacious and open. It is a bit dark in spots though. Our server got with us quickly and she was very friendly. We got our soft drinks quickly while we were able to look at the menu. We decided on two breakfast bowls that sounded good and we also ordered a pancake and a homemade biscuit to taste them. Presentation of the food was very nice. The pancake was not super flavorful but the syrup saved it. The biscuit was absolutely great and our bowls were good. I did have to add salt to my Country Bowl as the Gravy didn't really give me that kick of flavor that I'd expect. My wife had the Farmhouse bowl and she really enjoyed it. I may do that one next time. Overall good experience and we'll be back for sure to try the lunch items! read more

We waited an Hour for for our meals to arrive and the food was not hot but lukewarm. Had the Hot brown and it was deli turkey sliced very thin. The sauce was ok and the bacon was burnt. Went for our Sunday after church brunch date. Food was very good. I chose a breakfast bowl, hubby had an omelet. Coffee was smooth & hot! Service was wonderful. Christy our server was so kind and helpful. We told her this was our 1st time visiting. She made a delicious ample sized mimosa, will try the pineapple version she recommended next time, maybe cranberry the next! Ambiance was family happy & still decorated for Christmas, as was the downtown J-town store front. So cute. Yes there are TV's, but not needed at that time of the day. The only positive thing to say about my experience yesterday was that we were seated quickly by the host and he was friendly. The coffee was not good. Service was slow. The food had no taste and my hash browns weren't cooked all the way it was cold. Sausage in the fiesta bowl was overcooked and brittle. The pancakes was the best thing of what we ordered but the syrup came in packets which I'm not a fan of. read more

This is truly a rare, neighborhood diner. You feel it when you walk in the door? Every customer we passed, getting to our table, looked up and said hello. The friendly staff is right there to welcome you and help with your table. Breakfast is served all day. Lunch specials are from 11 AM until 3 PM. Lots of choices, a few appetizers, several salads, lots of sandwiches, burgers, chicken fingers, etc. I also noticed a hot brown on the menu, and the waiter mentioned two desserts they also serve. My husband opted for breakfast. He said it was perfectly cooked and hot, and he especially liked the bacon that seemed to have a maple flavor. The two of us got the fish sandwich with home fries. The fish fit the brioche bun, however, it was a little bit too much crust for me... had great flavor, but I usually prefer a thicker piece of fish. The home fries were outstanding, well done and delicious. We will definitely be returning, have always looked for a nice little diner in our Jeffersontown neighborhood and this absolutely fills the spot. We have another new deli that just opened... People rave about it, but it has absolutely zero accessibility for handicap scooters or walkers. They suggest we go next-door to the brewing house and they can bring us our food, but high top tables and that atmosphere doesn't really appeal to us. Would love to see more dinner type offerings on the menu at Gaslight, but quality comes first and I understand you may not want to spread yourself so thin. But great job...service was superb. I was excited to finally try this place and unfortunately did not have the best experience. We were in that area for the farmers market and decided to walk over to the diner for lunch. When we walked inside we were told we would have about a 15 minute wait, even though there were LOTS of empty tables. After waiting around 20ish minutes we were seated. We then sat there for another 10 minutes before someone came over to us. Our server was actually the bartender who admitted that he doesn't normally serve. There were 4 employees total. One who was up front seating people along with cleaning tables, 2 were serving, and then 1 more who was just kinda there, not sure what she was doing. My food was okay, nothing to highlight. I sis feel bad for our server because it's not his fault he was serving instead of doing his normal bartending job. I hope that they were just having an off day and it's not normally like that. read more

Our large party of 9 was accommodated very well by our server. All of us had different requests but she made sure to cater to all of them and facilitated a great time there! I am not a big gravy fan but for some reason, it was calling my name so I had to get Biscuits and Gravy! For $5 more you get a plate of bacon, eggs and hash browns. Such a deal!! I've been wanting to try this place since it opened, and today I did! I've heard such good things so I was excited coming in. The place is much bigger than it looks from the outside. First of all, the service is so kind. You can tell they truly care about their customers. The French toast is amazing! It's perfect. The biscuits and gravy is good, maybe a bit shy on the gravy but it's tasty. The bacon is super good as well, it's cooked perfectly. The coffee is okay. The hash browns are an acquired taste. I will definitely be back though and would love to try the place out for breakfast again or lunch next time! read more

First impressions were not good. Seemed pretty gross in general. My shews stuck as I walked and several tables had no one sitting at them but were still dirty. The host seemed like a teen with a summer job who did not give AF. He wiped off a table and immediately sat us at it before going back to the host station and getting on his phone. We never got any refills on our drink and only saw the waitress when she took our order, delivered the food, and delivered the check. The prices were pretty good and the food was decent. I got a double cheeseburger and besides it being one of the greasiest burgers I've ever eaten it was pretty tasty! The sauce was a good addition. The fries were super mid. Our food was cold, it took 30 minutes for all our food to come out (after the normal 20-30 minutes after ordering) because several items were forgotten or made incorrectly (One sandwich didn't have the correct side, the other sandwich didn't have any sauce, my eggs were made incorrectly, my grits and toast were not brought out). I had to ask 5 separate times in the span of that 30 minutes for a coffee refill. To top it all off our waitress loudly kept blaming the kitchen, as a former server no. You look at the window before bringing the food out to see if something is correct, and if it isn't you let the kitchen staff know. Sometimes things slip through, but with the amount that did, that's not fully on the kitchen. Besides that, don't bring that to your guests. read more
