This is a great place for lunch & coffee in the Saratoga Village! I've been here twice now and enjoyed it each time. The large Latte ($7.35) is perfectly made and is in a gigantic ceramic cup (with great latte art). For lunch I had a Half Greek Salad ($12.50) that was delicious. It was also gigantic! I'm glad that I only ordered a "half" salad. You order and pay at the counter. When your coffee is ready, they will call it out and you bring it to your table. For the food items, they will bring it to your table. There is seating outside (with umbrellas for shade) and seating inside. They have a coffee roasting machine, so it appears that all the coffee beans are processed on premises. read more

Came in here for a midafternoon coffee. On the plus side: there were plenty of options for coffee, food and snacks and room to sit but it was midafternoon on a weekday, so that makes sense. The coffee I had (vanilla honey latte) was woefully light in any coffee flavor. It mostly tasted like sugar milk. The "cinnamon"scone I ordered, turned out to be a cinnamon RAISIN scone. That is an important difference that was not advertised. I am okay with raisins, but would have chosen a different scone had I known that. It was a mediocre scone that I would not order again. As other reviewers have noted, there are no prices on the menu board. It is a guessing game as to the prices and you do get a surprise when things are rung up. I don't like the lack of disclosure. They don't take cash. Now, this is clearly stated on the sign by the counter and I do understand the business reasons for doing this, but I am not fond of limiting customer options to only using cards. The latte was basically milk and the espresso tasted burnt. I had to come back here a couple days later because I desperately needed a restroom. I got a cappuccino and again was expensive and burnt. After a long hike at Sanborn County Park, we stopped for ice cream and coffee as a treat. For a large group, there were plenty of chairs to sit outside. Even though the small sized gelato cup looked small, it was surprisingly heavy and dense. For the large sized cup, they allowed three different flavors. The kids gobbled up the gelato quickly without offering any of the parents a taste. The iced blueberry lavender latte was very refreshing. The flavors were subtle and didn't overwhelm the coffee. It was on the sweet side until the Ivlce started to melt. They had a bowl of doggy treats next to the door, which was very nice if them. There's a parking lot behind the cafe. read more

We've been here on multiple occasions mostly for their carrot cake which is superior imo. Their non-flavoured drinks like mocha, cappuccino are pretty good too but the food can be a hit or miss. We tried their avocado toast on sourdough last time which was good but the Broccoli cheddar quiche was definitely not fresh & just reheated to make it palatable. It's a nice little place that opens up early, where you can work out of for the day, stroll the downtown and have a good evening to end with. That's the perk, otherwise I'd say just stop by for the carrot cake goodness. read more

So the next time I tried the Spicy California Chicken sandwich. It seems like the spice comes from a sauce they pour over the chicken. It was pretty decent, but the overall experience with it was just okay. It was a little messy (with the sauce dripping out as you eat it), but I am okay with this if the sando is really good. read more

We came here on a Saturday for lunch because the line at the bakery we'd come to get pastries from was a bit long and we hadn't had breakfast, and it ended up being a fortunate thing about that line because we've discovered a great spot! My husband ordered a sandwich (probably the BLT, I was too focused on my food to remember, LOL), and I ordered a slice of the tamale pie, which was like if you made a chili into a shepherd's pie and replaced the mashed potatoes with corn bread. I'd never seen this before (maybe I live under a rock? Is this common?), and it was really good! I had it with a mocha, which was also really lovely. My husband enjoyed his sandwich and cappuccino, and then suggested we get a slice of pie given that they had vegan pie slices (I am allergic to eggs, and also very tired of asking about which desserts have egg in them, so this was an amazing find for me). I got the olallieberry pie and he got the New York coffee cake to go with the remainder of his cappuccino, and we very much enjoyed our respective desserts! The cafe itself is pretty cute, and has some nice outdoor and indoor seating (we started outdoors since it's usually quieter outside of most cafes etc., but it ended up being a little too cold and windy that day so we moved inside). They have what looks like roasting equipment and beans on site, and sell their beans, so we will have to look into that in the future as well! The staff was polite and efficient, and there's a single occupancy bathroom in the corner (which I think counts as all gender-friendly). We will almost certainly be back again next time we are in the area, this is a lovely local gem along the main street. read more

After walking around sanborn park we decided to stop for some ice cream and came across big basin cafe. Very welcoming service. Ambiance was casual spacious indoor an outdoor seating, They have pastries, coffee, sandwiches and of course the main reason why we went there was for the gelato and sherbet. We had the mango sherbet its was rich with mango and also had the Tony's I believe it was pistachio and chocolate? Consistently cozy! I'd been to Big Basin Cafe a few times before, and loved the warm, homey atmosphere. On a Saturday afternoon, they were pretty busy, but we were able to order at the counter right away. I got a Blueberry Lavender Latte and Avocado Toast. The Blueberry Lavender Latte was incredible - great flavors, perfect for a rainy day. The Avocado Toast was very average, and came with a mountain of sprouts on top, so I ended up picking some off. It was a decent snack, but not particularly filling. Since we were still hungry, my roommate and I got a Mushroom Quiche and slice of Blueberry Pie to share. The Mushroom Quiche was pretty good (cheesy, nice texture), but the Blueberry Pie was easily the highlight. It wasn't overly sweetened, the blueberry filling was delicious, and it went great with whipped cream. They also had a massive selection of pies, so I would love to try more in the future. Our family has been coming here for over 8 years now. We absolutely love how peaceful the area is. Most downtowns can get pretty busy and parking can get chaotic but not downtown Saratoga. It's always pretty quiet, I never have trouble finding parking on the street or in the back. The coffee/tea we get is always delicious and we love sitting outside every time we come here. While I was waiting for the the "Friends" beer brewery to open, I decided to have brunch here. It was a good choice. They have the usual selection of breakfast sandwiches and egg dishes. We also have a huge selection of home roasted coffee beans. I opted for the breakfast sandwich with bacon and cheese, on an onion bagel. Just what the doctor ordered! My selection was served in just a few minutes, piping hot. There is seating both outside and inside. This Cafe is obviously popular with the locals, and the area can be busy. All of the food is amazing here and I love how big and spacious the place is. There's so much room on their shaded patio, so you can always grab a seat outside whether it's just you and a few, or you're with a big party. Their staff is wonderful and friendly, and they were even nice enough to let my entire group order breakfast when we'd gotten there about 15 mins after breakfast had closed. I've been here by myself and I've had important business meetings at Big Basin Cafe. The workers are nice and the coffee is self serve. I recommend it. The only problem is sometimes people set up shop inside and treat it like an office. One guy had a loud phone sales call for all to hear with his laptop all set up. When our plates came out, I took a bite and realized they had mislabeled the plates and I was eating her broccoli cheddar. But when we swapped plates, my quiche was definitely not pesto potato, it was more like a Greek salad style. When I checked with the staff, they said my slice matched the dish labeled pesto potato. I'm pretty sure the cook mislabeled the dish becuase what I had was definitely not pesto potato. I ate the quiche because I was starving and it was ok. It's good that I don't have any food allergies else that mix up could have been bad. I don't necessarily fault the poor teenagers staffing the place, but the management should be more careful of food operations.
