Popped into Benny's last minute on Christmas Day to rent snowboarding gear. Service was excellent, employees were so kind and seemed happy to be there despite the fact that it was a holiday. They got us in and out quickly but really took the time to ask questions and make sure we were comfortable in our gear. We'll be back and we'll definitely be telling all our friends about big Bennys ! read more

My friends and I stopped by this local mom and pop shop to rent out our gear for a day filled with snowboarding activities at Mt. High. Pricing was extremely reasonable and I was glad to have stumbled upon this place. I agree 100% with all of the good reviews you see here about this place. We decided to go the rental route and came out feeling good about the little money we did spend. I believe we paid around $20 for our boards/boots and binding. We were in and out of this place within 10 minutes. Staff here were extremely helpful towards us first time visitors. They even have a few cute photo ops outside of their store. I've rented skis and boards from Benny's for the last few years, and have always appreciated the service and value. I first came after renting from another shop in town, and feeling that the tech that adjusted my bindings at that other shop didn't really know what they were doing. I've always felt well-taken care of at Benny's, particularly this season, when I went in to buy rental-return skis and boots: Jimmy, particularly, went out of his way to help. I also recently bought new goggles here, and am very happy with them. With reasonable prices and excellent service, there's no reason to go anywhere else. read more

Great place, super affordable and excellent selection of boards/skis, amazing staff. We've been coming here for years. All our boards are from Bennys. ALSO just got super disrespected here today so that's crazy! SUMMARY: got free rental credits from one owner, tried redeeming it a few days later. Other owner said no, then had a MAJOR crash out. Started yelling and handing me more money. "Free? You want free? All free! Take all free!" Honestly kinda traumatizing lol but the story is kinda funny. STORY: This year we r buying our brother a board and he's testing em out. On Wednesday night as we are returning the rental board, my ethnic mother tells me to go and ask if we can have two days of rental credit to a new board. I think it's an outrageous demand, but look. I'm scared of my mom and I'm scared of asking for things. We still got a two hour drive back home, so I suck it up and go in. Benny, who probably see that im clearly sh!tt!ng my pants, gives us one free rental for the next day to apply to a new board purchase, and sign a note for us. It honestly made our entire night. The next day we come back, hand the note to the front, and the other co-owner appears out of nowhere. Dude is TRIGGERED. He very, very loudly says that he's not going to apply the credit cause Benny's too nice. They're losing money. And then... he just keeps ranting. I get it, but don't involve me in your business woes. (Btw, highly suggest registering an LLC instead of a partnership if yall haven't done so) Little embarrassing because now he's shouting at me across the store and everyone's quiet. He's asking why I would ask for free things. Like a beggar? I suppose. I can't shift the blame or explain. I stand there and take it and everyone's watching. After the bout of public shaming, I realize we need to get waivers for skis. No credit is chill. I go to the front desk to pay for the rental. Before I could say anything, he... storms to the desk, opens the cash register, and tosses 30 more dollars at me. I start laughing cause lowkey I thought he was kidding, but no, he was not. First of all, cash controls are completely messed here. Y'all should get an annual audit. Second of all, extremely uncalled for, insanely degrading, and super unprofessional. I'm holding my credit card, slack-jawed upon realizing he was being fr, as he's going on and on about how I have the audacity to ask for free things. That's a fat crash out if I've ever seen one. Or a midlife crisis, idk. Short people often have a sort of unbridled, internalized anger. That's the tricky thing. When you are physically compressed, so are your emotions. Go hit the slopes and let some stress out. Speaking of stress, guess who's stressed out? Me! I look at the very angry man in front of me. He's pacing. He's like, "yeah, yeah, if u want free things so bad you can have everything free", and my mom is stoked, cause he's handing us free money, but I am horrified. I love this business. We've been coming here forever. I don't gaf about the deals, whatever, we can pay. But dude isn't hearing me. Dude won't take the money back. He's being passive aggressive, but mostly aggressive. Mostly disrespectful. So, like the lame conflict-avoidant person I am, I shed a few tears. I actually cannot believe someone GAVE ME MONEY and I CRIED. I have no balls. I know. Except I do! I call him back, sniffling, and is like "dude, you're being a dick and way overreacting. " and he's pulling the classic male manipulator statement. "Look, I apologize, even though I don't know what I'm apologizing for." I wish I could have responded better, but I couldn't, cause I was so mad I went nonverbal. Look. My mother will bargain at a THRIFT. It's a cultural thing. Do I hate it? Sure. I run a tattoo studio too. People will ask for discounts on my already cheapest price. Everyone has different financial situations. I work with them, or I say no. But what's important is professionalism: to not take it personally. So here's a lesson on business. First, register an LLC. Second, work out your decisions with your business partner. Third, get some internal cash controls. Fourth, when someone asks to redeem credit, make sure to not yell across the store, proceed to have an aneurysm, hand out more money, etc. Not every question about discounts is a personal attack to the shop. We really value the work you guys do, and it's clear y'all run it with a passion. I apologize if ethnic thriftiness frightens a certain someone. Anyways, I refuse to ever step foot again in a place whose service made me cry! Thank you Bennys and all the other staff for the wonderful service over the past years. My brother had previously recommended Big Benny's as his go to for rentals so it was an obvious choice for us when we went up this year. The staff were amazing, right when we walked in we were helped and able to get boards and snow shoes very easily. They even threw in the pants in for some of us when we realized we forgot to add those to our order! The prices here were so affordable, honestly for the price you are paying it feels like you are robbing them, I 100% will be returning and renting from here again! read more

** SKIP THE LINE AND RENT HERE ** Seriously, Big Benny's can make your life easy. It is on your way up to Mountain High, and they have one of the best prices in town. Stop here and rent for ski, snowboard, snowpants, or whatever you need. The staff are friendly and they work fast, and most importantly, you save a ton of time and money by renting here. If you don't already know, MH charges up to $35 for a snowboard package and the wait is forever long. I have my own gear, but I always recommend Big Benny's to all my friends. read more

Cheap and quality is very good. We used the snowboard combo with helmet rental and we paid 38 bucks for all day. They do waxing and equipment rentals too very quick and all staff are kind and knowledgeable. Highly recommended. They have parking you do not need to park on the street. The staff did a great job social distancing everyone. We waited outside and filled out a form with our names and sizes and provided our License with payment card. At first, we were serviced outside but my friend asked if she could inside since she didn't want to try on snow pants outside and wet her socks and for us to try on our boots. The staff member let us in where others were doing the same at a distance from each other. We were idly waiting for awhile until we came back outside to ask the staff that helped us what happens next. He said we wait for our names to get called, I wish he explained this to us before just leaving us there since we kept going in line only to take up space from others when we could've waited on the side. Eventually, we were serviced. It was really fast and quick. It was really busy so we didn't have much time to ask questions since after your board, they go for the next name on the papers. Overall, the board and boots held up great! We stayed dried and warm. Prices were $25 for binding, boots and snowboard. Boots were $10 and Pants were $7. You can purchase snow gloves for $16. I would recommend Benny's on your way up to Mountain High! read more

Super friendly, local, couple bucks cheaper paying with cash, had the small board and boots to fit my little guy (almost 2y.o). They're right down the hill from mt. High, they close 30 minutes after the mtn. So with it being about 4 minutes from the west parking lot, it's perfect. They had some really cool merch as well (shirts, hoodies etc.). I'll be hitting them up for my little guys board rental until he's big enough to buy one that'll last a few seasons. So hit them up on the way to the hill if you need any gear read more

Great place to rent boards while visiting Mountain High. We submitted our rental online the night before which expedited the process. While I was being fitted for boots, another person was sizing my board and bindings. Returning was a breeze, and they allowed me to shred the page with my ID and card numbers which was reassuring. They have a speedy process, good selection of brand name products, and affordable pricing making it worth the extra stop before hitting the slopes. The process for a weekday was fine. Employees were fairly nice. They definitely put the scare into you about damage and theft... I attribute that to the LA clientele that Mtn High attracts. The snowboard equipment and rental are all good for a kid, didn't rent adult equipment. Now, the reason for the 3 star is their training or lack of. I watched 1 "ski tech" setup a binding for a customer. He had no idea what he was doing. I haven't twisted a binding in 15yrs, but it hasn't really changed much. He had no idea how to center the boot or set the forward pressure. I never saw him set the DIN for the skier's height, weight, sole length, and type (unless he did it when I wasn't looking). The other ski tech, kind of, helped him setup the binding, but it should have been inspected by a certified ski tech before going out the door. Makes me wonder if the bindings are ever professionally tested as required, at lease once a year. I wouldn't trust my knees to this ski tech. Hopefully, they can fully certify their staff to protect the renter. read more

Outstanding place to rent for mountain high! This should be the only place to rent from. My girlfriend and I have our own gear now but before that we rented here. We came on the day after Christmas and the wait was insane. Got there at 830 and we had to wait 1.5 hrs before we were out. They were super friendly and pretty efficient and had great equipment. However, it might be faster to go directly to the resort and rent there, to avoid the morning traffic and 2 hr long shuttles into mountain high. We started at bennys at 830 and didn't start in the snow until 1245. I would definitely come here, just not during the holidays. We preordered everything online, which I think might be necessary, as well getting there early, since I think they ran out by 10 am. read more

Chill spot for renting boards however their equipment is rather archaic, def needs an upgrade. People are friendly and prices reasonable. Only tough thing is they want you to return the board 30 mins after mountain closes, makes it a race to their shop, not cool. read more

My family and I discovered Benny's in March 2021, when we brought our 8 year old to Mountain High for skiing. We initially did the daily rentals, but when we realized my son had taken a shine to the whole skiing business, we asked if we could keep the gear till the end of the ski season. Trevor (managers son) went out of his way to accommodate us, so chilled out and accommodating - it's rare to find such fab customer service. We're now back for the winter season and had the pleasure of meeting Benny, the owner of the business. He too went out of his way to help us with my son's rentals for the season. Would 100% recommend you visit here before heading to Mountain High - you'll never get such a friendly vibe anywhere else if you're renting/buying ski/snowboard stuff. If you're boarding/skiing at Mt. High, Big Benny's would be the place to rent your gear. The prices are really reasonable, including the boots/board/bindings package that is overall cheaper than renting from the main resort itself. Open early and closed late, the location is easy to spot and though parking can be tricky, it's feasible. Even later in the day during semi-busy peak season, they'll most likely be able to accommodate your needs; we got in after lunch and they were not worried about serving us. All of the equipment was in good shape with the exception of the snow pants I rented which didn't quite seem water-proof (though I attribute that to the better clothes given out earlier than our visit). Requesting, signing, paying, and returning was a seamless process. We'd definitely come back to rent from the super friendly staff at Benny's! read more

Just rented from here today I have to corroborate all the great reviews about the staff. Just really nice people and great service. From check in to check out and returns just smiling service throughout (can't see the smiles due to the masks but their eyes were smiling for sure). On return the guy actually went out to my car to help me bring all the equipment in. He didn't have to do that but it was very appreciated. Also great covid precautions. Fun side facts there's some random weights in the rental area so I asked about them. Apparently the staff works out with the weights when things are slow. Haha cool stuff. They even do snow pants and jacket rentals which is a great spot for first timers not willing to invest in the whole outfit. Rentals don't include helmet. Helmet is $11 to rent. And goggles you have to purchase. It wasn't crowded when we went and we went on a busy day on January 2nd. It's a small shop and everyone is super friendly and helpful with finding you the right gear. They are all about safety as well. They accept card now and they do $100 deposit. They also offer $1 insurance for your gear just incase it gets stolen/breaks. This is pretty good as well instead of paying the full price that goes up to $300. They give you a pink slip as receipt after you pay. KEEP THESE! If you return with 5, your rental is FREE! If your friends are not coming back you can take their pink slip. It doesn't have to be in your name. When we finally got to the mountain there's this huge line for rentals and they are pricier too. This place came in clutch. I highly suggest going here!

We were greeted multiple times stepping into the store and asked if we needed any help. We just came here for a snow jacket to prepare for real cold. The inside has cool decorations, snowboard brands etc kind of like a little wooden fort. Theres even a laddered second floor where they sell 2nd hand items. The store is divided into sections for board care/rentals, they have curtained fitting space and a toilet. They even have helmets and ski shoes. The prices here for snow jackets/gear (have pants too) are definitely cheaper than other name brand outdoor places and good quality (150-200), even cheaper than some outlets (but im not too well versed in brand comparisons so dont quote me if you are seasoned). I I think accessories might be cheaper at outlets?, but its more convenient to get everything in one place. They have toe warmers and google covers. They even have the board conditions for different mountains written on a white board as if you were up there in a resort. It would be great if they had a diagram for beginners of what clothing items/essentials to get including accessories and thermal layers as the store overall is very approachable to a southern californian newbie. The only thing is that it is a bit hole in the wall, parking is a bit confusing as you do look like you're pulling up to an inn. But there is a parking lot and we seemed okay parking there for our time here. Had a good time here, would recommend it to anyone looking to get into winter sports.

I hit a bit of misfortune with my boot, the boa lacing system actually broke while I was on the mountain. I fell a lot (likely attributed to inexperience) and actually fell while boarding the ski lift and the boa broke right off. When I went back to the store, the employees were very gracious and gave me a rain check for the next time I visit. They informed me that it's relatively rare for these to break and I believe it. I still had a great time. It was unlucky, but I'm excited for next time. I spent ~$35 for the boots and board and I was at Snow Valley all day.

One of the most-used lifts on the west side wasn't working, which caused a lot of congestion. Traffic getting into the resort was rough, and the transport buses from the east to west parking lots weren't operating. There was no announcement about this, so my friends ended up walking from east to west parking, which was frustrating. On top of that, we experienced a fireplace being out of gas. They eventually got it lit, but by that time it was late, really cold, and we were about to head out because our lift tickets had expired. Overall, the resort has potential, but I felt unprepared for the crowd and the logistics were poorly communicated. Hopefully, they can improve operations and better handle busy days in the future.

Currently here with a group to rent skis and snowboards. This place has been here for over 17 years. Good: The place is on the way to Mountain High and easy to find. This is a one stop place for rentals. Awesome customer service. Very friendly. Minimal paperwork. Cost of $23 for snowboard package and $15 for ski package. Mountain high rentals for snowboard package is $35 and ski package is $30. They have additional equipments (jackets, gloves, pants, goggles, wrist guard). Ok: You could tell that the equipments are fully used and worn, but nothing that would hinder a person's experience. MT High has new equipments. The place is small and compact. Bad: No restrooms. Overall, this is the place to rent snowboards and skis. read more

Another great experience! These guys know how to hustle. I walked in and it was hella busy, yet I never felt like I was being neglected. I was greeted. Shared easy-going and great conversation with several employees. Paid super low prices and actually walked out the door with really nice equipment. Much better then what I expected out of a rental. Definitely made me feel better about the rest of the day. This is not my first review, and I can say with the utmost confidence that I will be back to Big Benny's and I will be writing another 5 star review in the near future. The rentals are cheap for a reason!!!!! There was a lot of people when I came in so I can tell they were rushed. They toook my boots for 5 seconds and put them on a ride board. As I went doen the first slope I immediately felt something was wrong. The boots were very worn out, from 1-2 seasons ago!! Half of the time the binding didnt even want to come off my feer and I had to sit for 5 mins and play with them to come off. The bindings were cheap and plastic and the board was way too small for the boots!! My toes were sticking out of the board and it did effect my performance through the WHOLE DAY. Dont ruin your day of shredding by coming here!! read more

Went to mtn high over the winter break with my wife to teach her how to snowboard. We stopped at a cool rental shop on the way called Big Benny's to get my wife a board, boots and some pants. The owner was SUPER cool. He hooked my wife with a cute pink Burton board that she loved right away. he also gave me some great pointers on who to clear and stomp jumps. Wow, a much better experience than renting from Mt. High. Benny's offers better rates than any other shop in Wrightwood and the staff is way laid back. My girlfriend needed to rent some boots and he helped her out right away and hooked it up real cheap. They've got plenty of boards and boots to rent. Rent here and no where else. we recently tried renting our equipment from this new place located on a narrow road in a very cramped building. its operated by couple of rude punks who have no idea what customer service is all about...it was a good lesson for us as we now appreciate the place we always rented from more as they are very established and professional. read more

So I've been going to this place for my Honda quad for years. Before, I have to say that the…read moreservice they did was great and was affordable. Fast forward to 2 years, I couldn't ride my quad due to illness and and it sat for 2 years. I tried to start it and it would fire up but won't stay on. So I decided that since Rams Motorsports worked on my quads maintenance before I stored it I would bring it back to them. Once it was there a few days later I received a phone call from Allan, a long time worker there for years. He gave a me price of $600!!!! I was floored and asked him what was wrong with it. He mentioned that the carburetor had to cleaned and gas had to be drained. I couldn't afford that price so I had asked him if I could take the quad back. He said it would cost me $200 to get it back for the diagnosis work. I figured I would call another Motorsports. I was told that the diagnosis would only cost me $95. So I called Allan back and told him I other Motorsports charges $95 and I told I can give them $100. He finally agreed to release the quad to me for $100 for the just the diagnosis. When I brought it to the other Motorsports they mentioned that Rams Motorsports didn't even take the carburetor apart or did anything at all. In fact, after they worked on my quad come to find out that the gas was still good and it wasn't the carburetor at all. It was only the battery that needed to be replaced. I want everyone to know that I was loyal to Rams Motorsports until this experience. In fact, I wanted to buy more things to purchase for my quad. Well, they won't get anything from me now. They lost my loyalty and my business. To everyone that comes here or think of coming here... Please ask questions and get another opinion from another Motorsports.
