I hate this Big Boy. Every time I go here I have a horrible experience. One time, I went there with a friend and it was crazy busy. My friend and I are both waitresses, so we told the server not to worry and to get to us when she could. She thanked us profusely and ran off. We didn't see her again for 15 minutes. From experience, I know it doesn't take that long to catch up and at least get a drink order. Then I asked for cheddar broccoli soup, she came out with cream of ham or something. When I asked what happened, she said they didn't serve cheddar broccoli at that location and so she brought out ham instead. First of all it shouldn't say cheddar broccoli on the menu if they don't have it. Second, she should have known they didn't carry it and told me when I ordered. Instead, she randomly brought out a totally different kind of soup, maybe hoping I wouldn't notice? I did. So I went again and ordered a cheeseburger. They brought it to me with no cheese. I asked if they could put some cheese on it, after ten minutes brought me a slice of cheese on a plate. They could have at least taken the whole plate back and put it under a heat lamp so the cheese could melt onto my burger. I went again and saw that cheddar broccoli soup was still on the menu. I asked if they carried it now, the server said they did. She then brought me the ham soup again. I went again and ordered a four cheese pasta, it was super dry and tasted like it spent fifteen minutes waiting under the heat lamp. I have given this place too many chances. I am done and will never return. read more

Not sure what's with all the bad reviews. I've been here many times and it is by far better than any Big Boy I've ever gone to. The place is clean, the service is good and the food is good. The salad bar is always well stocked and likewise for the breakfast bar. One time we were here around 10:45pm. I just wanted the salad bar and although they were getting ready to close it down the waiter kept it open for me. Service has never been an issue for me when I've been here. And the example I mentioned was just an example of the stellar service. Even just for desert this place is great. Great desert menu. Big Boy is a classic American restaurant, many have closed but this one is still going strong. read more

Today this Big Boy in Newburgh Plaza could just barely make the effort at being friendly. In addition, the powers that be--likely a majority of one--decided to "change up" the fifties/sixties/seventies" music replacing it with what is heard in just about 99.9% of establishments whether they are restaurants or retail stores. Yes...meh, ugh, bleh, and a bunch of other grunts and groans at the tearing down of the tradition that draws us to this particular Big Boy. Listening to the garbled sound of the masses really took away from the experience. read more

I'll say this first - I was not a Big Boy fan before I visited this location. I thought of Big Boy as an over 80 hangout where dinner was at 3pm. That opinion changed when I visited this location. I have been eating fairly regularly at Big Boy restaurants for more than 50 years. I have noticed their service and food quality steadily degrading in the past ten years. Tonight, at the Six Mile and Newburg location in Livonia, Michigan, I experienced some of the rudest and poorest service I have ever experienced at ANY restaurant. It was my birthday today, so my wife wanted to take me out for dinner to a place she knows I enjoy. When we arrived, the restaurant was not very busy. We stood waiting to be seated for five minutes while staffer shuffled around looking either highly annoyed or completely ambivalent. When we were finally seated, my wife and I could both feel that our presence as customers was not appreciated or wanted. Once seated, we sat at our booth for nearly 20 minutes with NO ONE on the staff taking even a moment to offer us water or even acknowledgement that they knew we were waiting to place an order. We saw six staffers wandering about, several of whom walked right by us numerous times without looking at us. It was like we were invisible! Then, the floor manager walked out from the kitchen area and began to complain loudly about how unhappy he is at his job to several patrons nearby. He was clearly upset and angry about something to do with the owner and the way the place makes demands of him. He saw us and made no effort to acknowledge us. As the minutes went by, I began to feel increasingly uneasy. A waiter that I have tipped very well before walked right by us twice and acted like we weren't there. It began to feel surreal. Did no one want our business? After 20 minutes, my wife and I decided to leave the restaurant in disgust. I told the waiter who ignored us that the service was horrible and I would not be returning. After so many years, it is sad to make such a choice, but I can't give business to people who clearly don't want it. The owner of this business should seriously consider retraining his staff so that they know how better to serve paying customers. This evening's experience was a huge disappointment. I do not often review restaurants, but I can only hope the owner reads this and revamps his staff. Tonight was an example of the worst sort of service. read more

I will never come back to this big boys, my server Nancy took over 15 minutes to get my soup from the salad bar that was 2 feet away from me, I had to cancel my order for a shake because my food came out and at that point I didn't want it. When my food did come out the only hot part of my hotcakes was the syrup I put on it. Last but not least the hot fudge sundae is NOT hot. The brownie isnt hot and neither is the fudge. I love big boys just not this one, I will make sure to drive the extra miles to any other location. read more

I hate leaving a negative review because Big Boy was always that place where you could get a great meal. I love their fish and chips and the Slim Jim sandwich. I know it's hard to get things delivered for stores and restaurants, so I can forgive the substitute tartar sauce (they've got great copycat recipes for it on Pinterest). But the fish and chips were horrible. They tasted and smelled like the oil hadn't been changed in months. The waitress took it off my bill, so I took a slim Jim home with me. I don't think they clean the griddle either, because it was just as bad. Unfortunately, I am having problems with the stench in my home now. I threw the slim Jim away and took out the garbage. My kitchen has now been scrubbed with pine sol. I've showered and washed my clothes, but I can still smell it in the kitchen. No doubt they had a hard time financially through 2020, but at least try to keep up the Big Boy standards. Please! (And by the way Big Boy, try real mayonnaise and DILL relish for a reasonable and easy facsimile of your tarter sauce.) The waitstaff we're very good. read more

Super weird waiter. First he pretended to pour water over one of the kids heads. Later he entertained us with some weird facts and antics. Seemed nice but weird to the degree that it just bothered us. He was definitely trying to interact with us in a nice way but it was just awkward. Kids pasta plate was HUGE! SLOW SERVICE! The food there is great, but when my family and I wanted to get a "take out" it took more than 45 min! (It was only an omelet) The employees were saying it was almost done multiple times in the half hour. They showed us the bag for the food and said it was almost done but they didn't put a single thing inside the bag for an hour. We ended up having to leave without the take out. We stopped into Big Boy tonight on a whim. The location near us (8 & Haggerty) has been torn down but the idea of a classic Big Boy hamburger on this cold blustery night sounded good. We got there about 6 and the place was doing serious business. Wait staff were really hustling. Our waitress (I'm probably dating myself with that term but I personally prefer it over 'server' and mean absolutely no disrespect) was named Debra and she couldn't have been nicer. Took our drinks order and promptly returned with our Pepsi's then took our dinner order. The food came out less than ten minutes later - hot, fresh and delicious - a Bug Bit classic hamburger that hit the spot. The restaurant is clean, the atmosphere is a typical family restaurant. The hamburgers were as good as I remember. Even the chocolate fudge ice cream cake was fabulous. You'll get no complaints from us. This isn't eating at the Ritz Carlton. It's eating at a tried and true chain that, in recent years, kind of let me down by resting on their laurels (which is probably why the location near us closed) As we were driving away, we decided we'd return again. The revamped menu looked good with several options that appeared interesting. The food was delicious and we had a very attentive waitress. It was a pleasant experience. Thanks Debra! Was on my way to Laurel Park Shopping Mall and me and my friend decided to stop here to have breakfast. Waitress was nice. Against my better judgement I got my food from the breakfast bar. Remind me never to do that again! Food mediocre - not hot, not cold, not good, not bad. For the price we could've had dinner. I have been to this Big Boy many times and will keep on coming back. Their servers are friendly and excellent. The place is clean and always busy without a long wait. Free newspaper. Their blockbuster breakfast is delicious and a great value. I have also been for dinner. We had the seafood buffet which we felt was over priced for what it was. Their salad bar is good and fresh which is always appreciated. Their desserts are wonderful. I have visited a few other BBs and none can compare to the quality that this BB possesses. Only giving one because I have to give one. Sad what's happened to this place. Picked up my to go order - drive all the way home and opened the bag. Sandwich was totally wrong - and if it were right it would've been disgusting. Overloaded with way too much mustard and ketchup - when there shouldn't have even been either on it. Was supposed to be ultimate honey mustard and bacon grilled chicken sandwich. Received a burger with a grilled chicken breast (red onions, pickles, mustard, ketchup and America cheese). None of that stuff was supposed to be on the sandwich I ordered. I was placed on hold for over 13 minutes, drove back while on hold only to find an empty restaurant. Angry doesn't begin to describe my feelings right now. All this after I repeated my order three times when ordering. Lesson learned? Skip Big Boy. read more

I used to like Big Boys ( in fact I worked at one of their locations in high school). We wanted soup and salad bar, so we decided to go to the only location we know of. We were greeted and seated quickly. The salad bar was nearly devoid of actual salad fixings, although there was a plethora of salad dressing options. I ordered coffee, and my wife ordered iced tea. After a few minutes, our server came by and took our food orders( since we decided salad was out of the question and we were already there and hungry). With my food, I ordered onion rings. The food came out, and fries on my plate instead of rings( there is an upcharge for onion rings). We had to ask for flatware TWICE so we could eat our food( throughout everything I got no spoon for the coffee). I got one refill of coffee, which tasted horribly burnt. There was no bus staff on the floor, and the servers were in slow motion, so everything took far longer than expected. I don't know that we will recommend this location to anyone. read more

DISAPPOINTMENT TO SAY THE LEAST. When I was a kid, my parents used to take me and my siblings to big boys about every week and we'd indulge on dessert. That will always be one of my favorite memories spent with my family, as it is one of the few I can remember so clearly because of the joy it brought me. My older sisters birthday came around and she wanted to go here to celebrate. because the location next to our house closed, we came here. Our waiter was so rude I felt like I was bothering him and the restaurant by being there. He never gave eye contact, was always in a rush to get away from our table. Still can't figure if this was a racially motivated issue or not, but it was disgusting. Our dessert were thrown together and did not even look good to eat, no one on the table finished their dessert/shakes. He also handed the order to a waitress in front of us and told her to tell us something..I don't remember but I think it was about one of the items we ordered being out or that it would be a few mins.. point is he said this right in front of our face..even the waitress looked at him weirdly and agreed when we said the desserts do not look good. Coming from someone who was a waitress for five years, I always put on a smile and respected everyone, no matter how my day was going. read more

I don't know what all the negative reviews here are about. I went here Sunday morning and had a great experience. Ordered the Super Big Boy and fries meal with a Coke and it tasted EXACTLY as I remembered it from 30 years ago in Southern California. The burger was great, the fries were hot and crisp, nothing was over salted. The restaurant itself was immaculate and the restrooms were spotless. My waitress was attentive without being intrusive and friendly. Management greeted me at the door and stopped by my table to check up on me. This is what I sometimes hate about Yelp. I don't know if the scathing reviews on here are from foodies expecting Big Boy to be more than it actually is, hyper critical customers who are never happy, or folks that truly had a bad experience here. I would not hesitate to return to this Big Boy. It brought me back to some pleasant childhood memories. Would love to take my grandkids with me next time. read more

Our waitress Aurora was so sweet and kind. She was very attentive and helped out her co-works with running their food. The food however tasted nasty,the big boys just isn't the same and i think they use different ham on their slim jim. But other than the food Aurora was just perfect. It seems as if she was the only one really working. I heard one of her co-works ask her to take a table even though she only had one or two and Aurora had NO problem picking them up on top of her already five tables. If you go here ask for her!!! I love taking my girlfriend here because it's the last place my wife would look. It's mostly packed with seniors and families in the morning and lunch time. Their milkshakes are amazing. The foods nothing out of the ordinary from a koney and they're more expensive than a Denny's, but its classic American diner food and who doesn't enjoy that time-to-time. I am sad to have to post this review, because my husband and I have been eating here for years, but for the past few months the service and food have been getting worse, and our last visit was the straw that broke the camels back. When we walked in, two girls were standing across from us talking. They looked right at us, and continued with their conversation. Once they were done, one decided to wander over to us to seat us. After being seated and being ignored for a decent amount of time, a waitress came by to say that John would be our waiter and sorry because he thought she had our table. John came over behind a new girl who apparently he was training. This girl couldn't have been more rude. No eye contact, completely monotone and rude in her expression and speech, and John her trainer found nothing wrong with her behavior. We placed our order, and a few minutes later, the rude new waitress came back over and had to get my husbands order a second time. A few minutes later, John came over and asked for my husband order again. My husband and I questioned what the problem was and were told by John "She's new and doesn't know what to listen for" I guess writing down a food item on paper was too complicated for this young lady. We were treated very rudely by John who felt the need to be arguementative. We decided to leave at that point and my husband stopped again to inform John and the Managers he was standing with why. They again did nothing to try to rectify the situation or to keep the customer. They argued again, and my husband overheard them while we were walking out saying "that wasn't your fault". I am paying you to provide me with a meal and good customer service. I am not paying you to be rude to me and serve me a sub par meal. Don't worry guys, we won't be back! read more

New remodel just opened late Sept. inside is very nice, food was good (very high for Big Boy standards). Staff was hard working but disorganized. A lot of wasted effort. The man who appeared to be the manager was running around, bussing tables, seating people, running the cash register, etc. We waited a long time for our food. I am giving this restaurant three stars because the food is not consistent. Every once in awhile I go down memory lane and start to crave a Big Boy burger. Sometimes they come out of the kitchen perfectly, just like I remember them from my youth and other times they come out either soft and mushy tasting or burnt. I always ask for more Big Boy sauce on the side because some of the cooks are very stingy with it and lets face it, it's the sauce that makes the burger! Their onion rings used to be very good but they have changed things up and what they serve now, definitely comes frozen from a bag and I do not recommend them. Breakfast is also just so-so. My scrambled eggs were tough and rubbery and I could not make myself eat them. The waitress noticed this and asked me what was wrong and I told her, but she did not offer to substitute or reduce my bill. This is not an expensive restaurant so I don't expect gourmet food but a little consistency in the kitchen would be greatly appreciated. read more

I'm not sure if they read reviews like this or just fixed things on their own, but we stopped here last week (out of convenience) and a check of the salad bar had really fresh items, all of the pasta dishes looked fresh, and the soups looked great. Hopefully things are changing for the better so I am upgrading to three stars. :) read more
