The Big Boy from my home town closed and my friends and I decided to eat at this location while we were in the area.........for old time's sake. I wish we hadn't. I was all excited to get a Slim Jim, something I always got when I ate out with my grandma. I was surprised to find out that they now have 3 different kinds of Slims. I got the Italian with fries. The sandwich was supposed to come with red onion on it. It was beautiful in the picture. The sandwich I got was pretty sad as it only had two tiny pieces of onion. One on each half. See the picture. I asked for more and received them...........but I was pretty disgusted that I even had to ask. The fries were super dry so I swapped them out for hashbrowns. We were in on Saturday May 16, 2026 at 10:30am. The restaurant was NOT busy, after we were seated Stacey our wait staff came right over to take our drink order. She brought that then took our meal order, it was just 2 of us and so simple coffee with cream and I had Mt. Dew and we both ordered the breakfast bar!! Here's where it went down hill Stacey brought 2 coffee's no cream 10 minutes later finally got her back to our table to fix the mix up, to find the food on the bar was cold and dried out!!! We never seen Stacey again at our table the rest of the time we were there!!! She walked by a million times but NEVER stopped to ask if we wanted refills on our drinks, NEVER asked how the food was NOTHING!!! a wait staff in training (with another staff) brought more coffee while they were by our table then cleared the plates that Stacey couldn't do as she was walking past a million times!!! The Big Boy in Cadillac is really convenient for breakfast if you are staying at The Hampton Inn or The Holiday Inn - both of which are just up the road, less than a mile or so. I had an omelette with mushrooms, broccoli, bell pepper, onions, sausage, and cheese, plus a side of bacon and a cup of coffee. Service was friendly. It took a while for our food to come out, but they were pretty busy and they got slammed all at once I guess. My one wish was that they offered the option for spinach in their omelettes - which they do not. The Omelette was pretty tasty - although I added black pepper and hot sauce to it to make it better (they offer Frank's Hot sauce) Coffee was pretty decent for restaurant coffee. read more

When I give a 4 star for Big Boy, it's still a Big Boy. Needs some critical updates for starters. We walked up and down Mitchell Street stopping at what appeared like really great places to eat lunch. We were so hungry. Unfortunately, the places we popped into were overwhelmed and the staff was stretched to their limits. So we remembered seeing Big Boy and said "why not"? Glad I did. We ordered a Big Boy and a Slim Jim. Fries were meh. But the sandwiches were some of the best I never expected! When it's been a long, long time, your memory is usually much better than the food. The biscuits weren't the best, but I wasn't putting jelly on them! A mess of biscuit under a pile of gravy is fine. The home style fries were good. Scrambled eggs were typical powder style. Just as expected. And fine. Yes the store is dated. The entire area is dated! That's part of the charm. The seats are cracked or ripped. That happens with vinyl. It doesn't stretch well & these springy seats force the issue. You aren't at the Ritz Carlton! It's good food, good price, good folks. We stopped in for our monthly dinner out. Only a few cars in parking lot. We were seated right away our dinner order taken and served right away our order was taken. We didn't wait long for our meal but then everything went down hill. My husbands Big Boy burger was way over Salted or seasoned not sure just what it was. I ordered the Slim Jim and the tomato was hard and yellow in center had to remove it from my sandwich I also ordered a side of Cole slaw and it was the worse slaw I ever had I took two small bites. Went for dinner last night to have the seafood buffet. It was very good a lot of options. The only problem was it stated they had lake perch and it was walleye. Even after we stated to the waitress the problem she went and checked with manager, and came back and told us that on the box it stated perch. I'm an out-of-towner, but I know my Big Boy restaurant. It's a staple food back in Cincinnati. So when I saw there was a BigBoy off the exit on my way to the UP, I had to make my bf pull over. I was extremely disappointed in my chili. I don't know if they have a different supplier up here in MI, but all I can use to describe it is "goopy". Instead of meat and beans in that delicious chili sauce, it tasted like they dumped a can of bland Hormel into my container. Yuck. My bf said his turkey club was fine. But that's it, just fine. I hate to be "one of those people", but yeah, the service here is pretty much terrible. It seems most of the waitresses in there are on something during their shift and can't properly focus. My boyfriend and I started to come here last summer of 2018, and the service was decent up until the past 2-3 visits, each time we go in it gets worse. Last night we went for dinner, and it wasn't busy. At all. Took a server forever to get to our table, which I could handle. That was whatever. We ordered our food, got our appetizer, and then when we finished eating our appetizer we waited probably about 45-50 minutes for the rest our food to come out. It never came out. The server walked by our table one time, after we'd been waiting for over 20 minutes, and frantically said "it will be out soon, I don't know what's taking them so long!" The table that ordered after us got their food before us. The server never came to our table again, and we waited another 25 minutes after that until I finally suggested we just leave. The servers (and the manager) were all back there talking and rolling silverware. Not checking tickets. We didn't leave a tip. After we said we wanted the bill for our appetizer since we never received the rest of our food, the server begins apologizing and saying that our ticket got lost. I didn't buy it. More like you don't know how to do your job. I was a server for many years. You have to keep track of your orders and your tickets and actually take pride in your job. Went here recently late at night after a long day with my wife. We thought it would be a nice place to have a nice quiet dinner with good food. Well, we were wrong. We got seated, and eventually got our drinks after several minutes. The biggest problem here was the staff. They seemed like out of control teenagers, and literally, the giggling and all. Got my salad since I ordered a steak dinner. There was large white pieces that were starting to brown on it, and picked around it. While waiting for our food, the couple behind us was told they were out of soup, and the cook would not make more for them. Our food came, and it really did look good. I ordered loaded mashed potatoes, and they forgot some of the toppings, and the bacon was barely cut up. The only good thing about our trip was the steak. I commend the cook on it, it truly was great. During our meal, i sat my empty glass on the outer edge of the table for the waitress to notice. Needless to say, it took about 10 minutes. (No, they were not busy, there was about 6 couples total in the restaurant.) On it went, and then we waited for the bill, which went on for another 10 minutes. We tried giving signs, stacking our plates near the edge of the table, looking around for her and trying to get eye contact, and still nothing. Needless to say, I don't think i will be coming back to this particular Big Boy. Others are really good, this one is not. I do commend the cook, which is the only reason I would even give it a single star. Management needs to reel in some of the waitresses from being loud, and literally yelling to each other across the room. read more
