You get a smaller entree that's just the right size, plus a side salad and a drink--all for a great price! Located inside Windward Mall, there's plenty of free parking, making it an easy stop for lunch or dinner. The service was prompt and friendly, and if you enjoy people-watching, you'll have a front-row seat as shoppers walk by. We love the food here, but we especially enjoy being taken care of by Kristen! Our usual get down is to have lunch/dinner/linner before catching a flick. My fave items are kalbi and kim chee fried rice...not only delicious, portions are huge, will last me for days. Hubs likes to get a cheeseburger (Jack & cheddar as recommended by Kristen...should call it the Kristenburger). BCD also serves as a collection point in times of disaster. read more

Fantastic service and food today! If you are like me and stayed away for a year because the food and service went consistently downhill. Please consider giving them a second chance. The coconut pancake filled the entire plate. The regular fried rice and poached eggs cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed the crispy bacon. Shae was so friendly, efficient and kept our coffee filled. It was such a pleasure having her as our server! It's a Saturday today. The restaurant is completely full for breakfast. Big City Diner on a Saturday night. It's been awhile since we ate here. After watching a movie at Regal Windward Stadium, we walked around and decided on BCD for dinner. I had eaten popcorn at the movie, so I wasn't too hungry. We shared a plate of meatloaf and a side of French fries. The meatloaf was tender and delicious! It was covered in sautéed mushrooms and the brown gravy tasted homemade and flavorful. 5/5 stars I even dipped a few fries in the gravy. The fries weren't served hot, so the gravy helped. 3/5 stars There were three servers that I observed tonight. Quite a few patrons. Service was with a smile but slow going. Our server was very nice and she did her best to take our order and refill our drinks. 4/5 stars. Hint: Order the gravy on the side! Great tip to dip your order of fries! Bathrooms are available within the restaurant. Clean and well maintained. Cool ambiance with lots of large television screens to watch sports while you dine in. The food was pretty good and consistent compared to the other locations. My Big Bruddah Loco Moco was pretty tasty and delicious. But when our entrees came to us, it wasn't hot but warm. It was like the food was sitting for a while before they could come to us. We noticed that the service was a little slow and the kitchen undermanned. Our entrees took about 40-45 minutes to come out to us. The service was okay. They didn't have more than half the restaurant filled but they took 15 minutes to seat us at our table. The ambiance was pretty good. The floor and restaurant was dirty and loitered. They need more staffing to correct the few problems they're having currently. read more

After hiking we dropped in for lunch at this location in the Windward Mall. Server was pleasant and took our orders, kept our coffee and water full. I was a bit disappointed with the size of my chicken breast and it was overcooked. That being said the Guava BBQ sauce was tasty. This meals was for Kapuna, although I wouldn't say the price reflected that. Two of our party had hamburgers and fries, they both enjoyed their meal. I tasted the burger and seemed very oily. Other party member had chili with brown rice, I tried it and was tasty. Sadly I would have preferred her meal. I gave them 4 star because three out of four like their meal and service was good. 02/10/26 First time at this location, usually go to the Pearlridge BCD but was meeting up with a friend for lunch. They are located right next to the main food court on the first floor, makai side. We got here about 11:45AM & the place wasn't busy. There were a few tables occupied, maybe 5 tables. We were greeted by a friendly young man who seated us right away at a booth. The waitress appeared in a few seconds for drink orders as we perused the menu. She was also warm and welcoming. One thing with BCD, they do offer a lot of local dishes. My friend decided on the chili nachos and I went with the mushroom burger. The food prices run a little high. Both our dishes were $19.99 each. The chili nachos was huge, served on a big plate and more than enough for 2 people. There was a generous amount of chili, cheese, and toppings on a base of multi-colored tortilla chips. My friend said it was good & ended up only eating half, taking the rest home. My mushroom burger was ono and huge as well. They did not skimp on the mushrooms, nicely sauteed in garlic. The whole burger was covered in it. The hamburger patty was pretty thick, 10 oz and came with lettuce, tomatoes, & onions. A good portion of french fries came with the meal. I had selected the standard, skin-on fries cut thick, served hot & not soggy or wilted. I ended up eating just half my burger also as it was quite filling. It did take awhile before we got our food, about 15 minutes so don't expect fast food. But when the food did arrive, it was nice and hot. Our favorite Big City Diner location is the one inside Windward Mall in Kaneohe. We've known the owner Lane Muraoka before he opened his first location in Kaimuki. He also provided food donations to all my movie productions. So many restaurants turned me away but not him. His generosity and support will never be forgotten. Now the ono food. We usually start with appetizers fried calamari and fresh poke. My wife loves all their sandwiches. I tend to order the same thing every time. Mamasan's meatloaf with rice sprinkled with furikake. On occasion I get the hamburger steak. Everything on their menu is delicious. read more

Big City Diner in Windward Mall has been around for a while now and is a gathering place for us Kupuna since it opened. Great place for breakfast, with staples like corned, beef, and hash, and there pancakes. The corn beef is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. I order it with breakfast potatoes which are perfectly cooked. Crispy and tender with bell peppers and caramelized onions make it the perfect pairing with the corned beef. Also, they serve really good coffee for a diner, it's not some pot that's been sitting on the warmer for hours. Service is always impeccable. People are so nice here. The service was very bad today when we went for lunch. The waitress was very rude to my friend said I. We sat down waiting to be served, while waiting for a waitress, I got up and went to get a menu, a waitress told me in a rude way that we were supposed to wait for the hostess to bring us the menu, so we ordered and waited 45 minutes still no food but drinks and salad. In the mean time two tables next us received their food before us. So we waited a little longer when no food or explanation why our food never arrived, we got up and left. Went to Big City Diner for breakfast with my family. Usually I get the kalbi with fried rice and eggs, but this time I decided to try something different. Got the eggs Benedict with fried rice and fruits. I'd say it's an above average eggs benedict. The egg yolks had a runny consistency and the english muffin was crispy. And the fried rice was amazingly good per usual. Probs would stick to my original breakfast order next time though. Not cuz the eggs Benedict was not to my liking by any means but rather, just how good the kalbi with friend rice and eggs are. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it lol. Loved the service. Apparently the staff knows my grandma already so it's nice to see my grandma happy when a familiar face to her is our server for the meal. As far as ambiance, it really does give that diner vibe. I know a lot of people are concerned about excessive noise and such but out of all the restaurants I ate at, all the times I've eaten here, i could easily conversate with the people i was dining with. We ventured out of our area on Veterans Day and made our trek to Windward Mall. I told my husband I should've brought my coupon for Big City Diner. Just saying that made him interested in eating there. But I was like, "umm the coupon is at home." But he already had his mind set. The Big City Diner that was closest to us (Kaimuki) closed so the next closest was Windward Mall. It was my first time eating there. They took us in very quickly and they had a lot of seating areas. My daughter is like me and loves loco moco. Loco moco is my go to when I go to Big City Diner. I wasn't sure if they had kids meals with loco moco and then we looked at the menu, and it was on there. Last time we came the kids menu didn't have many options. She was so happy so could have the loco moco. My husband got the burger and I got the loco moco. There are two kinds, I got the smaller portion one. My daughter loved her loco moco but it was too much for her so she saved half of it. I also really liked mine but saved some so I could have loco moco for lunch the next day. My husband ate all of his burger. Just one thing about the loco moco though, it came with those caramelized onions, but I thought it also came with mushrooms too. It's been a while. I love coming to big city diner but it's getting pricey to eat here for 2 people. Food is pretty good whatever you order. My daughter always likes the burgers here and the appetizers. My go to is the Kalbi plate when I can afford it. Loco Moco is good too. The noodles are good with veggies. Whatever you get is good and plenty. Service is fair and usually they're good about refills and checking up on you. The inside is nice. Definitely gotta try the food here. I would come back again. read more

The staff are always nice and we enjoy the food but one star taken off because it always takes SOoo Looong! Restaurant on mid week lunch is about half full but we had to wait over 30min for our food. It has been the same for the past few years. 30min and once almost an hour. 2 kupuna 3 adults and 1 very impatient 3 year old was almost a disaster. But I definitely enjoyed the food and portions were great. It was moderately busy but we didn't mind the wait too much. Came in early in the morning on a very rainy Saturday morning. I was early so I waited outside enjoying the sound of rain. Right before it opened, people started lining up behind me. It was clear there are a lot of regulars here! Shae is absolutely delightful! She greeted everyone warmly and it was clear that the regulars adored her. I ordered my usual, the tofu omelette and coffee. (I appreciate the healthy option. I admit I slathered the two pats of butter on my toast -- because life is about balance.) Morgan delivered my food in no time, and politely told me to enjoy my meal. And as usual, there was enough for leftovers!! In the last several months, I've dined here several times with a friend, but today I was solo. I had the chance to observe the warmth and home-town feel -- people on different tables talking story and joking with each other and laughter permeating the air. Review: Disappointing Service - A "20-Minute" Wait and Broken Promises I am usually pretty patient, but my experience here was incredibly frustrating. I placed a takeout order in person and was told it would be 15 to 20 minutes. I ended up waiting for over an hour. The Experience Dishonest Timelines: Being told "just a few more minutes" multiple times while watching others get served is a major respect-of-time issue. Lack of Leadership: When I asked to speak to management, the General Manager wasn't even in the store to address the chaos. Shoutout to Chris: I want to clarify that the lead server, Chris, was GREAT. He was professional, sympathetic, and went out of his way to facilitate a follow-up by asking the GM to call me. The "Resolution" That Never Happened The GM did eventually call me and offered to "make it right," but claimed they needed to clear the solution with the store owner first. A couple of months ago with my husband craving for good nachos, went here and they couldn't serve it because they didn't have any chips! Duh! Ordered the portobello mushroom sandwich which previously was always great. This time it was a total fail. Then yesterday ordered takeout kim chee fried rice with 2 eggs. It's difficult to write a review for a restaurant you've only been to once and never plan to return to. I was actually killing time while my fur-baby had some dental work done and since I went to the new Target Store this was in the same parking lot and a short walk to the front door. I was surprised the place was nearly empty at 11:30 in the afternoon but my second choice was Ruby Tuesday......funny at noon the bar with a dozen barstools and three flat screen TVs filled up but an hour later it was completely empty again. Any way, after looking at that menu three times I figured I couldn't go wrong with the Cold Tofu and the Fish and fries. Big sigh. I'm not sure what was going on with the tofu, maybe a day (or two) older than it should have been and it was cut in tiny cubes, toddler size, making it not only unpalatable but even harder to eat. There was a ginger jelly served with it that was less gingery and too sweet. The fish was obviously frozen pollack, breaded, over fried but almost undercooked inside but hey I did love those fries and the tarter sauce did a fantastic job of masking the faults of the fish. Would I repeat...no. I was still feeling unsatisfied with my lunch and asked my delightfully attentive server what the dessert choices were...her highly recommended warm brownie with vanilla ice cream was the star of this meal. As you can see in the attached picture it was probably enough for two however one of those white mounds was whipped cream so I didn't feel guilty eating the entire serving.. The warm brownie was filled with little chocolate chips and warmed just enough to cause the ice cream to start to melt. The entire bowl was drizzled with dark chocolate. IF I ever returned to a Big City Diner I would order this dessert only.....it was really good. read more

A favorite spot we go to once a month for a guys night out to catch up & enjoy the days we were in high school many years ago. We enjoy the service & always request Christie as she provides our group with prompt & friendly service. Their whole staff is friendly & provide excellent service. We order the same dishes every time & the kitchen is always so consistent in preparing them. The bar mixes our beverages consistently & beers are always cold.We come also because you can converse easily & not have to talk over each other. We've been using this space for our monthly networking events (9-20 guests) for over three years, and every single time has been five-star worthy. Sunday ... late lunch. 445 pm met some family over here for talk story over late lunch. its quiet and lots of space so great for talking story/catching up. we ordered da kalbi fries to start. ono sweet savory kalbi slices, kalbi sauce/ mayo, kim chee bits, on french fries with garnish. we like it. loco moco had nice gravy and onions over rice, hamburger was good. easy over eggs. kids had a loco moco and guava chicken. i had the bbq chicken salad. i like it. fried onion bits, tortilla slices, corn, chicken with a mayo guava dressing, avocado and fresh lettuce. sometimes comes with tomatoe wedges but not this time. was ono and refreshing. also accidentally dropped my 1/2 filled water cup when my daughter turned. the local waitress was so nice about it and she so good fun. read more

I've always had a good experience at other Big City Diners. Not so at the Windward Mall location. Dinner early on a Saturday night, restaurant only a quarter full when we arrived. Waiter promptly took our order, but after that it was just waiting. And more waiting. It took 40 minutes for our food to come out. Nothing wrong with the food once we got it, but that is just way too long to wait for diner food, especially when the place wasn't busy. I won't be going back to this one. read more
