Upgrade. Maria's recently changed their pizza. I really liked it before and I really like it now. Definitely better crust now, and the tomato sauce seems to be less sweet and more tomato-y. My wife and I have been getting take out here for years. The food is always on point and the owners and employee's are super friendly. They just recently changed the style of pizza, Greek style to Italian style and its still AMAZING. Also there subs and wraps are by far the best in town. Loved this place everything we have got was excellent.The calzones are better then my Brothers Place which used to be our favorite. Pizza is delicious have had numerous types all were great. I live right around the corner from this place and I refuse to order from here. Maybe I am a pizza snob but the pizza really isn't very good. To be upfront, I have only tried their pizza, and I gave it two chances. The first time I got a slice to go and the only reason I even at the whole thing was because I was so hungry. The second time I ordered an entire pie. It was better than ordering by the slice but I was still pretty disappointed. They also do not have bathrooms for patrons on site. They do have a good deal for $7 large pizza on Wednesdays but I still don't order it. read more

Customer relations at this place is terrible. The owner, in particular, does not care at all about customer satisfaction. Something you don't like? Talk to the owner. I miss Maria's. I lived in the neighborhood for a while and I ordered from them a lot. They make great pizza, subs, and salads. I stopped in the other day and had a chicken Caesar salad and a pizza with a friend. It was just like old days. And if you order a salad for there they serve it up in a nice bowl. Along the lines of what other recent posters have said, this place has gone down hill since new ownership took over. The former owner was a customer service pro, and cared about making people happy with food. The new owner doesn't seem to care for making sure people are happy. My impression is that the new owner cares only about making money with as little effort as possible. The food is pretty much the same as it was before. It really is the execution that has changed. Running a restaurant specializing in take out is pretty simple. The keys to a good experience including using above average-to-better quality ingredients, taking an order correctly and preparing the food as the customer orders it, and timing the execution so that the customer receives an optimal product. Maria's new owner may be using the same quality food and the same recipes as before. However, your experience as a consumer will vary widely as the restaurant is now chronically inconsistent with the rest of their service. read more

I have gone in a bunch of times in the evening in the last few months and I can say that this place has the best food in the area. They have new menu items up which I've made an effort to try when I'm there. The steak tips and calzone are my favorites, and I've also had pizza with a variety of topings. The guy behind the counter is very friendly and he seems to remember customers between visits which is a great personal touch for me. I can't even begin to describe how bad this place has gotten. I've been ordering here FOR YEARS - its the first place I tried out when I moved to Arlington 8 years ago, and I have been a loyal customer since. For the past few months my experience has gotten exponentially worse to the point that I have given up all hope. First, their online system is terrible. I have ordered at least 3 pizzas with incorrect toppings because the online system "moved" my checked box to another column. That solution is simple - just call instead. So, I started going with my low-tech solution in order to get the great food I love. The person answering the phone is clearly not the same. My friendly, happy, accommodating voice has been replaced by a rushed, slightly annoyed one. My delivery guy - who used to be one of my favorite people in the whole world - has been replaced by a driver that looks like I'm asking him to pull out his fingernails to deliver my food. Okay, so service has slipped. It's still a pizza sub shop with food I love, so I'll deal. And then the food changed - pizza that is burnt on the bottom with inedible crust and cut so badly it can't break apart and when it does, one slice is half the pizza and the other is a sliver. My BLT sub came with two slices of bacon, the fries are stale and steak size now instead of shoestring, the steak tip salad is now nothing but lettuce and four/five sad small pieces of burnt meat, and the burger, oh the burger. The signature Maria's burger was delivered to me on UNTOASTED WHITE BREAD. As in sandwich bread. The kind you use for peanut butter not a quarter pounder. It was by far the most disappointing, sad thing I have ever witnessed. I'm sorry to say, that was the last straw and there is no coming back from that. I'm really happy to have Maria's in the neighborhood. They changed their pizza to more of a thin crust with chunky sauce style pie in the fall of 2012, and it's really good. The price is also about 25% less than what I'm used to paying for comparable quality elsewhere. I love Maria's pizza. I find it far better than Sabatino's - I am not a fan of Sabatino's crust, which compared to Maria's is like cardboard. You can't go wrong with Maria's. After an eight hour drive from Toronto we were pretty hungry and willing to try a local pizza joint rather than a chain. Our expectations were not high and unfortunately the pizza did not exceed them. Bland is the best way to describe the pepperoni, cheese, mushroom, olive disc. The owner is very personable and described his plan to go with thin crust in the future over the pan pizza on the current menu. Good thing because the dough was also underwhelming. The toppings were fresh, but extra cheese should mean EXTRA. We had a garden salad that was average, but the Greek dressing was good. This pizza is not good. Growing up in a family who is in the restaurant business I hate giving a place a poor review because it is such a tough business. But this place, to me, has a lot of sizzle with their menu (compared to other local places) but fails to deliver. The crust is simply bready and dry - and that overshadows any sauce or topping you put on. Greek pizza tends to have bigger crust, but this bad greek pizza. The experience with the people who work there has been great, but the pizza just isn't great. I've never tried their subs, etc - which could be great. If you like new york style pizza then avoid this place like the plague. If you like greek pizza then give it a shot and decide for yourself. read more

I really liked marias a lot, was my go to for delivery then they changed their bleu cheese dressing which wasn't for the better...and today I got a steak and cheese sub and it just wasn't good, it arrived about 45 minutes after I ordered it and it was cold, the steak was literally cold and it just wasn't good at all. I usually never review places, but had to after my experience last night. First I would like to point out that the two men working last night were very nice and my food was made quickly. The food at this place however is unacceptable. This place receives many favorable reviews, so I figured that I would try it out, what a mistake. The pizza is ok, but mostly a soupy mess with crispy (kind of deep dish) crust. I also ordered the spaghetti with meatballs, which had very little sauce and the sauce that it did have was watered down from not draining the pasta well and tasted like store bought sauce. I think the meatballs were frozen not fresh. I would assume that most of the food at this place is canned and store bought instead of home made. I am sick of Greek pizza places in this city giving pizza a bad name. I wish there were more Italian pizza places around. Keep on driving past this place and go to Sabotinos, they may be Greek run, but they are great people and their pizza is excellent, with a good cheese to sauce ratio. read more

For the category of food establishment Maria's occupies, it's as good as it gets. I moved to the area five months ago and headed to a place near me in West Medford for pizza---the owner complained in the kitchen---I could hear him---b/c I had ordered only a cheese pizza. So I went hunting for good pizza at a decent price with workers who would treat me well and found Maria's....lucky me. If you want "bistro" pizza in a restaurant atmosphere...head down to Za's or maybe try Good Hearth over by Porter Square, which my wife prefers. But Maria's is a small joint with three tables and a voluminous menu offering calzones, pizzas, salads, and sandwiches of all kinds. The staff is always so friendly and helpful....in person and on the phone when ordering for takeout. And the food is good---it ain't gourmet, but it's solid and decently priced. The guys are so nice, you'll want to tip them well at the counter. For a sandwich, I take the Italian and for pizza I order Maria's Special. read more

Customer Service is awful, i'm not sure if they are under new management, but I ordered the seafood dinner (19.00) 3 shrimps, 3 scallops, and a piece of fish all overcooked, then when you put in your order on the website it says that the salad is standard, you get a second side so I ordered curly fries (no dressing, because i just like plain olive oil and balsamic vinegar). Got my order and there was no salad, so I called them and they said I did not order the salad, i'm like of course I did not order the salad since it is noted on your website that the salad is standard...she was absolutely rude this lady on the phone...They redelivered my salad and the delivery guy started yelling at me in the hallway saying I didn't write that I wanted the salad...pisses me off...its like check your website, it says that the salad is standard and comes with the meal (you can get two sides, but one of those sides is the salad) wtf how can you own a business without knowing what your website says!!!!!!!
