The moment I walked in and looked at the photos of Armando on the wall I traveled back in time to my youth growing up in Cambridge and playing little league at the sandlot. We would come up after games to have some pizza, and Armando would greet us with a smile and be genuinely happy to see us every time. Today I met Mike, Armando's grandson carrying the torch and keeping the family business going. Mike served two delicious slices of sicilian style pizza to me and shared some amazing stories of Armando and the many people that loved and appreciated him. The atmosphere and the vibe in Armando's is genuine, just as the man himself used to be back in the day. I was craving good pizza and Armando's popped into my head. I have been to Armando's before and I remember it being really good. I ordered a large cheese and a large pepperoni. I arrived in 20 minutes, and it was ready, exactly on time. Staff was nice in our three sentence conversation. Place screamed old school pizza joint. When I opened the box my first thought was, is this Greek pizza, but it isn't. Pizza was cooked well but something about the cheese looked off. The undercarriage was cooked perfect. The pizza just isn't very good. Sauce was on the sweet side, crust had zero flavor, and the cheese added nothing. I was very disappointed and so was my family. So good! And nice people. This is the closest thing I've found to a good NY/NJ pizza place. My favorite by far in Cambridge, much better than Otto's and Joe's and all that in the Square. The grinders are pretty good as well. I like the cheeseburger one--reminds me of being a kid and my dad taking me out for cheap burgers, lol. This is definitely a local spot with the usual types of pizza place items. They have a huge sheet of Sicilian pizza ready on the side and you can add any toppings on it even for just individual slices. The slice were a great size and had a nice crunch on the bottom. They are CASH ONLY so be prepared and if not there's an atm in the restaurant. read more

I should have listened to the people who said don't waste your money. I got a large half cheese half roni pizza and a Greek salad. The dressing was pretty good, but there was too much feta. Not enough tomato and no cucumbers. The crust on the pizza tasted like cardboard and it had no flavor. Below average pizza. read more

Sicilian pizza had raw dough in a big section of the middle. Discourteous service on pick-up. Toppings were nothing special; sauce and cheese also nothing great to speak of. Micheal has taken his dad's pizza shop (Armando) and done it justice. This is the pizza dough I purchase to make pizza at home. The dough is aged and has a taste no other local dough possesses. I'm partial to Armando's Sicilian pizza but round or Sicilian they both are great pies. Cash only but atm on premesis. Family environment and a long term sponsor of local little league. The service was excellent and the restaurant is clean and well kept. I ordered a meatball sub and a calzone. The meatball sub was disappointing. It didn't contain much sauce and I asked for extra cheese but got like 2 slices of cheese added on. My son's calzone was massive but lacked in flavor. read more

Most importantly, salty heaven sauce. Pepperoni and Onion - 4/5. Recommended by the staff. Great balance between caramelized onions and smoky pepperoni. Growing up in New Jersey, my pizza bar is high. This thin crust style pizza blew me away in a way I haven't felt in a long time. The newspaper clippings on the walls tell the story of an Italian immigrant opening up the restaurant in 1971 and keeping it in the family using the same recipe ever since. There's a genuine sense of community represented by the decades of local baseball sponsorship momentos. How this could make anyone's top list for Sicilian pizza is beyond me. I ordered two slices pepperoni and watched him attempt to dress up two cold, congealed slices and pop in the oven. The cheese was gray and the sauce congealed black. I don't even think it's possible to make pizza that day and have it turn into that. One bite and into the trash. Never again. read more

Welp, last night I walked almost 2 miles to eat here and the pizza did not disappoint! Two mile walk and an uber home, that is how good this pizza is! It is a small spot, cash only and they typically don't deliver on weekends (at least every time I have called they weren't accepting orders for delivery) I got a large half eggplant half pepperoni pizza and my husband and I ate the whole thing - no crumb left behind! Typically I am an aggressive carnivore, if a meal comes without meat I immediately walk away (who eats a meal without protein?!). When a friend told me I had to try their eggplant pizza, I was extremely skeptical, but let me tell you I would not come here again without ordering at least a slice of their eggplant pizza - it is the perfect combo of cheesy, crispy and delicious! I decided to try this place after a strong recommendation by some friends at my CrossFit gym. My review is based on the take out experience and food only. I decided to get the Sicilian cheese slice (two slices) with fresh mozzarella cheese, mushroom and basil. It took me about 15 minutes to get there and the pizza was warm and ready. While this is definitely not the Chicago deep dish pizza, it was a very refreshing change to the pizza I generally have in Boston. When I lived in Wisconsin, I was used to having really good Chicago deep dish pizza. I craved and missed it here. The Sicilian style deep dish pizza isn't quite the same but it's definitely more satisfying than the pizza slices I've been having. The fresh mozzarella cheese and the basil have a very unique and rich flavor. I usually always get mushrooms on my pizzas, and it didn't disappoint. The quality of the pizza is good, the ingredients are fresh and the prices are reasonable. Definitely plan on having CASH if you're planning to order from here. read more

I've been traumatized trying to get half-decent pizza in Boston. Reviews of pizza here are so untrustworthy that I'm not convinced anyone living around here even knows what pizza is (sorry to be a jerk, but pizza is near and dear!) Armando's does a solid job. This was my first time eating at Armando's and I was a bit disappointed. I ordered the Baked Ziti which looked so good! When I cut into it, I was so surprised that there was not enough sauce. Armando's is my guilty pleasure. Their Sicilian pizza is so good. Sometimes I wish they put lighter sauce on it but it's still delicious, especially second day.. YUM! Their steak subs are also some of the greatest I have had. The peppers, onions and mushrooms are cooked to perfection and the roll itself is SO SOFT. I'm continuing my multi-post reviews that I call "micro reviews" of one very specific menu item that nearly everybody either loves or has a strong opinion on, that's the classic meatball sub or grinder. In my previous reviews I was focusing just on the "House of Pizza" joints, they are more Greek style, but I couldn't resist trying, devouring (and loving) Armando's meatball sub. It's not Greek, it's Italian, let's get that out of the way. But the meatballs are homemade, and they are sliced !! ... which is very important to me in the overall meatball grinder construction - served up on a really tasty roll - smothered in their amazing pizza sauce. It's everything you want and more for under 10 bucks. I need to re-emphasize that the roll was better than most House of Pizza's rolls, and again - the sliced homemade meatballs made all the difference in the world. A bit messy, and the cheese (which was mozzarella) had a good pull to it but was distributed a bit unevenly, - those are minor minor flaws in the grand scheme of this highly recommended meatball grinder. He corrected me and called it a sub, but I called 'em grinders - and it was delicious. Must try! read more
