This truck has somewhat restricted hours. I've been patronizing them for years but it's hard to connect often enough to review every dish they offer, and their menu is fluid. Currently, I like their slaw, with its creamy dressing, about the best of the eight bbq trucks I monitor, although one other (High On The Hog) has a liquidy sweet and sour dressing which is unique and intriguing. I've been making inquiries at my Q joints and it's looking like all start with canned beans, but Big D's are seasoned with spices which I cannot identify and I like them the best of all my bbq venues. Big D, BG's, High On The Hog and Cindy Lou's are the only suppliers that make homemade bbq sauce, as far as I can tell. I would suggest that customers ask to have the sauce in a tub, so they can make their own judgement. The meat servings have been extraordinarily generous. I got three meat portions out of my last $5 plate. Value is there. Especially now, with the quarantine bollixing up supply chains, I definitely recommend consulting Big D's Facebook page before setting forth to do business. Or call. At the time of this review they were not delivering. A restaurant that's only open 1 or 2 days a week should offer more than "just breakfast ". And that was just reheated leftovers at best. The smoker was not on at all, at any time! NOT RECOMMENDED!!!! read more

Love the food! Tried 2 daily specials: Malibu Chicken Sandwich and Steak and Mushroom Sandwich. Side was the Mac n Cheese. The chicken was tender and full of delicious smokey flavor - very generous serving too! The steak and mushroom was superb! Very lean, tender and flavorful - and also a very generous serving. Was a 2 star but Owners Attitude drove it to a 1. We looked on yelp and online nothing he states below was ever found to be true. Hopefully he updates the menu so people dont wate time going. Decided to give this BBQ a try. To start with I have had BBQ all over the USA. Texas to Alaska and everywhere in between. Personally i Usually smoke my own in a Texas fasion. Started off bad big item here is the TaterPig a Large Baked Potato with butter sour cream cheese and a meat of choice. No baked potatoes but they got some left over mashed. No Thxs not even close. Biggest seller and you have none. Since waiting 15 minutes every group of people have asked for the TaterPig. Current group is on their 3rd choice of food with all we are out but.... The smoker is not running its lunch so more than likely the food is going to be lefovers. Personally I would have at least had the smoker going. Otherwise its not freshly made. So Far feeling like I should have skipped it. No drinks of any kind goto the liquor store for something to drink. Interesting not the first time. Got food its steamed reheated food. The togo box is full of steam and water. Completely bland meat. No rub no anything to make it stand out. Smells smoked but not taste it. I can see it being reheated Costco food from a couple blocks away. Strange BBQ Sauce. Most places would call it a relish or chutney. No liquids in this one. read more

I ordered the tacodillos, brisket, pulled pork, mac and cheese, and potato salad. Wife ate all the tacodillos and I didnt get to try them. She said they were delicious. Brisket was very good, nice smokey flavor, i ordered the last of it today. Pulled pork was pretty good also. Something I really liked about this place is the flavor on the meats, very good smoke and seasonings. The sides left a bit to be desired but I really didnt come for the sides I guess. I am pretty critical on bbq places though since I do bbq competitions. As of right now in the mid Willamette valley this place is the best. I like it more than ALL of the places in Salem. This is the barbecue you need. It's like being in the South only without the bugs and humidity. Come here. If you don't, then your tastebuds will have missed out on an experience akin to discovering that you have a missing Van Gogh in your garage, only the BBQ equivalent. This is a food truck in the parking lot behind a building. If you come during the summer, the proprietor's young son has built a fort next to the food truck. He'll ask you about whether not you have children and will come talk to you. He's a delight. If you have kids, bring them along. I'm sure he'll appreciate the playmate. The portions are enormous. Pulled off in Albany without a clue where to go. All the restaurant places seemed pretty packed. I found this BBQ spot on yelp and it was the best. Big stuffed pulled pork sandwiches. Real pork chunks in the BBQ beans and really good mac 'n' cheese. I'm a very picky eater so this is a good find for my trips on I-5. I don't normally enjoy barbeque food because I'm really not a fan of barbeque sauce, so I was a little hesitant about trying it when my friend found it on yelp. But I'm SO glad I did! It was absolutely delicious! It ended up being $5 Monday when we went and I got the pulled pork Mac and cheese and the pulled pork nachos. They were both really good but especially the macaroni! Again, I seem to miss what Oregonian's taste on what good food is. My husband and I were being lazy and decided to try it after all the great reviews. I was going to get the cheese steak but went with the 8 ounce rib eye with mashed potatoes and buttered corn. My husband went with hamburger with pulled pork. His was a good size burger and I enjoyed the bite I got but my rib eye was a waste of $15.50. The smoke flavoring was on point but needed a little more seasoning but that's my personal preference. What got me was I asked for med rare and I got very well done shriveled little slice of sad meat. Looks like it was forgotten about when it was being seared on one side then quickly seared on the other, resulting in this slice to be over cooked. The mashed potatoes taste like it's half real and half instant mixed with drippings and the buttered corn was flavorless, tough, and probably previously frozen with just butter with no salt. I was disappointed to spend that much on an ok meal that I just picked at while being left hungry and will probably feed to my son later while my husband for only $9 got a good burger. We also tried the smoked mac and cheese and it was bloated noodles with grainy milk bits. The noodles must of not been properly drained before being made because it was a ball of mushy flavorless noodles that even my husband who likes kraft ended up throwing it away after one bit. I would give more like a 2 1/2 star because the burger was on point. My husband says smoked meat is good but it needs to be properly seasoned and he's an Oregonian that used to have bland taste buds too. read more

Wife had the PP sandwich and loved it. I prefer it a little less wet, but it was good. I had the ribs. Pretty good, but it had a bit of a strong smoke aftertaste. I chose the beans which were good. They even had real pulled pork in them. Potato salad was tasty. Better than any other restaurant I've had. The real gem was the tacodillas. Sauce on them was great. Stopped and got brunch. Got the pit steak omelette . Potato's were just that no seasoning not even any texture. Same with the eggs and the peppers and the steaks and the steak was tuff. Could hardly cut it with a knife. We also got the pit Benedict that was better but still pretty disappointing. The gravy was decent but the biscuits felt store bought and the Sauce was just bland. First and only time I've been and sadly it was bad enough that I wouldn't be willing to say maybe they are having a off day. Becuase everthkng was just so bland. When Big D says "full rack" o ribs... he means it!!! 2 full containers of meat! We rode by w friends last summer-- the guys were hungry, so we turned around and ordered up. It was good. Which is why when we drove by 15 minutes ago, we turned around again. Hubby LOVES BBQ. Well, come to find out, this is a new guy and a new truck. So, we ordered the full rack (all sides are homemade) with potato salad (very fresh-- very dilly) and BBQ beans. I'm not a fan of the beans-- generally too sweet for me, but my honey love 'em, so we ordered up. The beans are SAVORY and so packed full of meat, I thought it was actually chili (which I love)-- so WIN-WIN!! The beans are very very very good// YUM!!! Lastly, because I don't always want to share ribs with my hubby, I ordered one of the specials: The Tater Piglet! A baked tater w a heaping helping of pulled pork, a smattering of BBQ sauce (NOT BLAND, TOMATO SAUCEY OR CLOYINGLY SWEET, but a hint of sweet w nice, easy flavors-- my hubby asked for more) and a dollop of sour cream for $5!!!!! I was in Albany for the first time from LA. I yelped good BBQ and this place was in the top 5. I decided on this place and was not disappointed. There was 5 of us so we got a wide variety of food and we all shared. Slaw, potatoe salad, ribs, brisket on eggs Benedict, and the piggy breakfast burrito. They were all delicious! The first 3 items are the usual things on a BBQ menu but we're cooked to perfection. The Benedict and burrito was more of what I would call a fusion style. I like how they incorporated their BBQ in regular breakfast food plates. The Benedict was served on a biscuit layered with brisket poached eggs and their own country gravy. Their Sunday brunch is delicious as well! I had the breakfast burrito today and it was unbelievable. Super nice couple serving up very tasty food. Their bbq sause is more of a favorful spicy tangy citricy experiance then just a plain old whiskey/honey/and some kind of chili or jalapeno mix. It compliments the flavor of the meat and is very tasty just on its own. My 2yo loves to dip his nugets in it. 5$ mondays are a must and get the mac and cheese. They use to serve a tri tip sandwich but i think they dont anymore, shame. But they still offer a tritip steak. read more

Son took me here for Father's Day. Well, the day after so we could miss the crowd. Really, really, really good BBQ. We each had a kind of burger I guess. 1/2 lb burger with another 1/2 lb of pulled pork on top. The pork was great but the beef was overcooked. It probably doesn't enough fat in it . Sure, lean beef sounds good. But you need some fat in there to keep you ground beef from fusing into a mass of indigestible beef. So, put some fat into the mix and don't cook it too long.
