    Menu - March 2026

Went here for lunch on a weekend. Ordered a bento box of Saba Shioyaki and Sashimi while wife had a Curry Tonkatsu Rice Bowl. Good food, nice friendly service, pleasant environment, and plenty of metered parking on busy Clement.

We got two lunch specials (Chicken Katsu and Beef Teriyaki), both with California Rolls and Gyoza. For $18, this cannot be beat. We ordered for pickup so I can't speak much for the ambiance of the restaurant but the people on the phone were very helpful!

Note to self - Have my sushi and appetizers (that I order for my lunch) come the same time as everyone else's entrees. So we can all eat at the same time. Quality/Quantity - If you are following, the last time we tried to eat here, my guest refused to walk the last two blocks so we ended up eating at one of my daughter's favorite restaurants. The good news is that my guest was able to make the walk today! Bento box day today. We got the chicken and salmon bento boxes; $15 each. I got the Alaska and Jakes roll and my guest helped me eat some of my rolls as well. I forced myself to NOT order the chicken wings as I am still trying to eat healthier. Day two - This is becoming my guest's favorite Japanese restaurant. Today we got the following: Beef Ramen - They were out of ramen, so udon was substituted. All of which was still good. Salmon Bento Box with Sashimi $18 - My new guest is a big eater. As usual, of decent quantity. See how thick and fresh the sashimi is; see picture. Salmon Bento Box $15 - My regular guest's favorite. And her usual order. Chicken Katsu $15 - My daughter's order. The katsu was fried perfectly. Today I got the following, which I shared with everyone - Chicken wings, and my usual Alaska Roll, and a Giant Roll. Amazingly we ALL finished our meals both days?!?! As light eaters, were we that hungry...? Or was it the quantity...? Do the pictures dictate a decent quantity? Anyway, the food was good. Ambiance - Small local business. Plenty of sushi bar, table, and booth seating. Cool decor throughout. Two clean unisex bathrooms. Metered street parking, but not a problem today as we walked. Open 7 days a week from 11:30am to 5pm, 9pm, or 10pm. Service - Welcoming, as usual. Service was slower than usual, but our meal was all made to order, so it was very fresh. Price - $53 + tip. Day 2 = $61 + tip Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since November of 2022; we are still regular customers.

Maybe it was an off day or we ordered wrong because I didn't enjoy my food here. Usually bento boxes are safe bets when trying a (new to us) spot, but I didn't really like it here. The tonkatsu in my bento had a weird taste. I ended up not eating and later grabbed food from elsewhere, but my hubby ate his food and didn't feel bad, so I guess it's ok. I like my hot tea. Located on Clement and 22nd Ave.

A huge hunk of blue fin collar meat!

A little bird whispered in my ear "will you join me in making Women's History Month extra special?" Absolutely! I would be honored to. I have 3 favorite restaurants that come instantly to mind. The first is Big Fish House. The second is Shanghai House and the third is Capital. I'll start with Big Fish House on Clement Street. Big Fish House is owned by Julie. We discovered her restaurant a few years ago. The restaurant was referred to me by another woman (Lily my foodie connection!). It's Friday and our date night. The menu was wonderful. We ordered appetizers, sushi and entrees. Julie didn't know us yet, but came to our table to welcome us. She's so sweet and friendly. She honored Happy Hour sake even after the hour. Ooooooooooh, we likey. Two points for Julie! Then she asked if we ever had blue fin kama. So, if you don't know anything about the blue fin tuna, it's HUGE. Like 500-600 lbs huge. So, you can imagine how big the kama (fish collar) is. She says she only gets 2 collars on the weekends, so we said "go for it." We waited for it to be broiled and as it was placed in front of us...OMG! A massive collar came to the table. We were full, but the collar was prepared PERFECTLY and outrageously delicious. It was steamy hot, tender, meaty and had a nice crust on it. While eating the collar, we were digging for meat. And I mean, digging like for gold. There were so many crevices and caves with hunks and chunks of meat. This sucker is huge. It was the highlight of our dinner and this is the main reason why we return to Julie's Big Fish House when we crave blue fin Kama. There is nothing like it. Remember now, Julie only has 2 pieces on the weekends so it's first come, first serve.

Beef teriyaki is very tough. It gives the appearance of an old meat. Disappointing that it was a waste. The tempura was soaking in oil. I ate the shrimp and veggie inside and left the heavily oil dripping on the batter.

We've gotten food from Big Fish House and it's been pretty good. Most of the time we're ordering food to go and have yet to do a sit down in the restaurant. On our recent visit, we had the chicken katsu which comes with sauce on the side and a small salad. Portions are decent. And the food was pretty good. We would come back again to try their other dishes

    LA roll
    Samantha C.

Came here late night and tried a bunch of their specialty rolls: 49ers roll (4/5) -- the salmon was served room temperature which I found concerning since I am used to restaurants serving fish on the colder side LA roll (2/5) -- the inside is supposed to be shrimp tempura, but as I was eating pieces, I noticed the tempura was mostly batter and barely any shrimp. It made for this dry center along with dry rice Rainbow roll (4/5) -- good, but I have had better Spider roll (3/5) -- felt like the crab was overfried or the oil needed to be changed and it needed seasoning Overall, mediocre sushi with warm, attentive service. Not sure if I'd come back here.

Pretty good sushi. Third fav in the neighborhood, except for the nigiri (that is one of the best). Dishes (ranked by best): 1) 8 pc Nigiri lunch special ($20): this was delicious, a must get! 2) Double Toro Sushi Roll ($22): can't go wrong with a toro sushi roll 3) Rainbow Roll: solid, good roll 4) Crazy Sushi: just ok 5) Chicken Wings lunch special ($10): would skip, lacked flavor and wasn't fully cooked Logistics: -accepts cards -street parking only -plenty of indoor seating

This cute little restaurant was a wonderful stop on our way out to the coast. The sushi was fresh and tasty, best sushi I've had in SF so far. Wait staff was friendly and service was prompt. If you're in Japantown and thinking of eating there, don't. Grab a bus over to Big Fish House instead. Better food and more affordable too!

Cheap eats but you really do get what you pay for. I paid extra for the "real crab" and it was so awful that not only did it have shells in it, but it was super fishy and not fresh. The owner gave me like 10% off the rolls which is hilarious because that's less than the price of the upcharge for the horrible crab. I kept spitting everything out. Not fresh fish either. I would skip this place for anything raw. The noodle soup lunch was worth it though for under $15 with a decent amount of beef and noodles.

Overall? Finding good quality fish at a reasonable price in a busy city feels like a unicorn hunt these days. But Big Fish House? Total gem. It's budget-friendly without cutting corners on quality. Their happy hour menu is a steal, $10 nigiri? Yes, please. The service was quick, attentive, and on point, and I loved the included hot tea with the meal, a nice touch that's becoming rare. It's an absolutely legit hole in the wall spot, and would definitely recommend checking it out Parking? Street, wasn't difficult to find for us

    Diego B.

Nice and spacious location. Cute ambiance, good service and food. And did I mention they have amazing lunch specials? Definitely drop by and give it a try! So far I have tried a good portion of their dishes and have not been disappointed! Even during lunch it doesn't get too busy, that's one of the benefits of being off the beaten path. It's also decently reasonable (for SF standards) to find parking around here after 1pm.

We came for a late lunch on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy. You can make a reservation through Yelp, but it wasn't necessary when we went. We tried the Omakase ($42), the Chirashi ($23), and the Chicken Teriyaki bento plus salmon skin roll ($18). The Omakase was delicious and looked beautiful! It included salmon belly, bluefin tuna, shimo aji, and other daily specials. It did not include uni. I really enjoyed the Omakase. The Chirashi included salmon, hamachi, tuna, and albacore over a bed of rice. The fish was fresh and delicious, especially the salmon. I tried a piece of the salmon skin roll and really liked that as well. I didn't try the chicken teriyaki, but heard it was good. The lunch specials came with miso soup, salad, and rice, which was nice. The service was really good. Our waitress brought drinks and refilled regularly. Though can be problematic if you also order a big sushi platter. Regardless, crisped up nicely with tender meat underneath. The generous amount of spicy mayo was a great pairing. Lovers Boat: Definitely meant for two people, so a decent deal for all the food. Lots of variety with rolls, nigiri and sashimi. Though the nigiri might cause some lovers quarrel because for many fish types there's only one nigiri. Thankfully I'm pretty skilled at cutting nigiri in half with just chopsticks, so avoided any conflict! The nigiri was my favorite, with nicely little accents to up the game of the fish. The sashimi was nice too, but it's really just about the plain fish quality being the star. Also, the wasabi on the boat seemed fresher than the paste on the side, so go with that. Wasn't a huge fan of the rolls though. The California roll was the fake crab stuff; some places use canned snow crab to give you real crab but not get too pricey. The spicy tuna tasted a bit fishy, compared to the high end tuna pieces in the sashimi and nigiri. So if you have to sacrifice some sushi to stomach space, save the the rolls for last.

This was my first time visiting Ramen Kameko on Clement Street. The promotion was $5 Special Ramen (To Go Only) with a choice of Tonkotsu or Shoyu Ramen. I like ramen, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to try the restaurant. They were already sold out of the Tonkotsu Ramen, so I ordered the Shoyu Ramen, a soy sauce-based broth topped with one piece of chashu, negi, and kikurage. By the time I ate it, the broth was only lukewarm. I also waited almost 30 minutes just to get the $5 Shoyu Ramen. Had I known it was only a mini-sized portion, I probably would not have waited in line for it. The chashu was okay, but the portion size seemed more like a snack size than a full bowl of ramen. For $5, it felt more like a sample portion. It was almost like eating a mini kids' meal version of ramen. There were only two people handling the promotion. It appeared the chef was preparing the ramen assembly-line style, scooping the soy sauce base into the container and adding hot water before serving. Overall, there wasn't anything particularly special about the promotion other than watching the chef prepare a large number of ramen orders. The $5 price was reasonable, but it felt more like a tasting portion than a full ramen experience.
