Pho Huong Vietnamese Restaurant Review I wanted to give Pho Huong a try, and while there were a few positives, the food was just okay for me. The chicken in the pho looked a little questionable, and the noodles tasted slightly undercooked. The broth wasn't bad it was piping hot, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself was clean, and there was decent parking, which was a plus. Overall, I think there's room for improvement with the food, but the service and cleanliness were good.
As expected northern style pho, with enough but subtle flavors for one to enjoy. Came here on a recommendation and it didn't disappoint. Kind of low key place in the area and totally accessible by transit with a little walk. I got the house bowl with rare steak flank. Very beefy and decent amount of noodles. I got the regular bowl and it was a good size for me. If you want something more filling, get the large. Can't really say there was really much service though. Straight-forward of taking your order, then they just send the order to the kitchen. You don't really get staff at your table until you're ready to pay your bill. It is maybe border pricier, with a bowl of pho rounding to about $21-$24 (with tip). Worth it if you haven't tried northern pho.

Pho Huong Viet brings a unique northern style menu to SF. Their beef broth is light and flavorful. We also had the chicken dry noodle, tasty with lots of different textures from the garnishes + chewy texture of the clear noodles. It does get busy here and with a very small staff, it can be a bit of wait for your food. Portions are slightly on the smaller side - order a L for your typical pho serving.
Food was solid, but the service was questionable. Since it was my first time ordering, I made a small mistake when explaining my order and the server responded in a very condescending manner. It definitely made me feel uncomfortable asking questions. The food was solid, the broth was savory, aromatic, and full of flavor, but I don't think I'd consider coming back.
Coming here midweek for a reunion lunch with some neighborhood friends, I felt like I was dining at a new restaurant. One guest arrived early and saved us a table in the front dining room against the right wall. When our party of 5 was complete, we studied the menus. Only one guest had not dined here previously. This was well done and the sweet and sour sauce complemented this well. There was only one open table in the front section and a couple of diners in the rear dining room. The owner took our orders while another gentleman brought our food and cleared our empty plates and bowls. Service was courteous and down home. I only now noticed that it's been four years since my 1st visit. I will have a tough decision on my next visit whether to have the beef or chicken as both were good. That's a good thing.

Before my mom got to eat her pho and she was going through it, there was a meatball already bitten into it The server/owner was terrible and made us wait 30 minutes to order. When told about the meatball he blamed us and said it's just how they cut the ball, when there are clearly teeth marks in it. Do not eat here
Delicious Northern Vietnames restaurant with a tailored menu of 9 items but they all taste amazing. Of course, we recommend getting the pho (which has the disclaimer that bean sprouts and typical herbs won't be provided). It's a rather small restaurant, so you may have to wait a bit, but food is prepared quickly and is full of flavor!
Good pho and homemade soy milk! Broth is flavorful and comforting. Service is pretty quick considering how packed it is. Expect a bit of a wait at peak hours.
Great place for dry style pho. Came here with friends on a Friday evening after work. We were informed that they ran out of chicken, so we substituted our items with beef. The food was all lovely - I had a beef pho with flank and meatballs. The flavor was there and the price was reasonable. My partner had the dry style and it was very flavorful and rich. I'd come back here for a simple bowl of pho.
Dry pho?? Who knew that was even a thing? I didn't--until now. The noodles come in one bowl with sauce and toppings, and the broth is served on the side. One bite in and it just works. The noodles are flavorful and well-seasoned, and the broth is rich and perfect for sipping between bites. The taste is authentic and undeniable. Definitely adding this spot to my list of SF restaurants to come back to. BB

I came specifically for the phở gà trộn and it did not disappoint - it was remarkably close to what I've had in Hanoi, and I absolutely loved the mix of flavors and textures in the "dry" bowl of noodles (it's not in a broth but does have a sauce that you mix in), with the accompanying bowl of broth a nice way to change up each bite. I also ordered the nem (deep fried crab rolls) to pair with my noodles but those were a bit of a letdown as the flavor was a bit one note but it probably didn't help that they arrived at the very end of my meal (and only after I flagged someone down to check on the order). On service, there wasn't really anyone to greet guests on arrival so a group of us were left to simply stand around and wait to eventually get seated. Also to note, the food does take quite a long time to come out so I would recommend knowing what you want ahead of time so you can order as soon as you get seated. All that said, the deliciousness of the phở gà trộn and the appeal of the broader menu make me want to come back to try more items, and I'm hoping the uneven service was just an off day rather than the norm.

Now this is what a comforting bowl of pho should taste like. After trying a few pho spots around San Francisco, Pho Huong Viet easily stands out as one of the better ones. The broth was clean, rich, and full of flavor without being overly salty. Every sip had that slow-simmered taste you're hoping for. The meats tasted fresh, the meatballs had a great texture, and the herbs arrived crisp and vibrant. The chicken pho was equally satisfying with tender, juicy chicken and a comforting broth that didn't need much dressing up. Portions were generous, prices were fair, and the service was quick and friendly. This is the kind of neighborhood pho spot you find yourself wanting to come back to. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in San Francisco. If you're craving a solid, authentic bowl of pho, this place is well worth the stop. read more

Northern style Vietnamese food, so the pho noodles are a bit wider and you don't get the raw Thai basil and bean spouts. Menu wasn't extensive but they do the items they serve real well. The food was delicious. We had the beef pho and pork boon cha (grilled pork and patty) with vermicelli, herbs, and lettuce. Both were flavorful, especially the second dish. Minus a star for the sticky tables and chairs. The restaurant has seen better days in terms of cleanliness. Service was a bit slow also as only one person was taking orders. read more

Highly recommend! I went around 2pm on Sunday and there was a bit of a line but the wait was so worth it. I tried the dry chicken pho (#3). It comes with broth to drink on the side. Everything was very flavorful. Definitely a no frills mom and pop shop. Worth the hype and checking out! read more
I think they are my favorite pho house in SF since I truly love the delicate fragrance broth of a true northern style Pho. The only place that would have fresh julienned ginger for beef pho and keffir lime for chicken pho, added so much aroma and depth to the both. Oh and don't expect hoisin and sriracha here. Nor beansprout or basils. Northern pho does not comes with that. They get pretty busy on the weekend with long line so prepare to wait. Service could be spotty but if you want best food I guess we endured. Food can take a long while to.come.out. Don't expect much for a family own no frill the restaurant except knowing that you are In for a real treat. Very casual vibe borderline hole in the wall but clean. Both chicken and beef pho are so soul warming. Must order the crab roll, and.bun cha...slurp slurp everything up!!! read more

I love this place downnn! This is my go-to pho spot in the city. Service- great. Food- amazing, fast and consistent. We've gotten their chicken pho, and the mixed chicken pho. The mixed chicken/dry noodle blew me away, it was so addicting. I love shallots so all the dried shallots on top made me feel like I was in my own personal heaven. After visiting my first time, I was already craving more. I have since visited a few more time and every time the food quality has been consistently great. I am very particular and picky with my chicken and typically don't order chicken pho because the chicken tends to be pretty dry. Their chicken here is so delectable and tender, doesn't have a weird "chicken" taste, and absorbs the pho broth very nicely. Normally chicken pho is neglected as most people opt for beef, but their chicken pho was absolutely the show stopper. The broth is flavorful and deep and doesn't make you feel heavy- like you've overloaded with salt afterwards. Also the tableside pickled onions and peppers are also delicious in the broth. The service has been great every-time. It's usually just one man (which I believe is the owner?), and he has been lovely and helpful at recommendations. The food runners are also very nice as they've always greeted us with a smile! 10/10 I would give this place a try if you can! (: read more

Came here Christmas Eve. Good amount of people here. 5) Bun Cha is tasty! 1) Pho is definitely northern style. Cuts of meat was good! 4) Bo kho, not again: too plain. Pickled garlic side was delicious. Definitely felt homey here. Ceramic (not plastic) bowls for splitting, no frills dining. You even have a waiter that feels like your pissed off at the world uncle is here with you. Even my mom made a face towards him after an interaction (we are used to Southern Vietnamese food and my mom said something that the waiter corrected on). I came up to confirm the receipt price since I didn't get a paper receipt. Pho Huong Viet is one of the few northern Vietnamese restaurants in San Francisco! We ordered the special beef pho with all the meats and the charming chicken pho all in the medium size. Note this restaurant does not serve hoisin sauce, bean sprouts or herbs (as with southern Vietnamese restaurants). Instead you have pickled garlic in vinegar and the normal fish sauce and sriracha hot sauce. Special beef pho with all the meats 5/5: The beef broth was very flavorful and much more clean tasting (not heavily spiced) as is customary for northern Vietnamese phos. The beef pho came with ginger and cilantro and green onions. We ordered the beef pho with all the meats and they for sure do not skip on the meat portions despite us ordering a medium size! Charming chicken pho 5/5: we got the chicken pho with the default thigh and breast meat but you can always order it with just thigh or just breast. Broth was also very flavorful despite it being so simple. The chicken pho came with cilantro, green onions, and kaffir lime leaves. The kaffir lime leaves were unexpected but were a great addition to the dish. Don't forget to also add their pickled garlic in vinegar to your pho! It elevates the taste of the soup and just makes it taste all the better! Service 4/5: the owner who was also our server wasn't overly welcoming when he seated us. However, you can tell he genuinely wanted us to enjoy our food. Parking 3/5: parking in this area overall is not an easy task. Just order the specialty beef pho. The other items are unnecessary. This is their golden ticket. Choose which proteins you want and sit back and wait. What comes for you is the most incredible northern viet pho I've had in the city. The quality and clearness of the broth is delicious. The thicker rice noodles are cooked perfectly with the right amount of chew. The ginger helps cut through the richness. The cuts of meat are some of the best/highest quality I've tasted in the city. Do not forget to indulge in the garlic vinegar at the side. The pickled garlic adds the right amount of bite for this dish. The owner is ALWAYS working and he's super friendly. read more

One of our staples for Vietnamese food in the Richmond. It's spacious and clean, and our server, an older gentleman whose niece and wife own the restaurant, is always amiable and chatty with us. Pho Huong Viet is also Northern Vietnamese cuisine, just fyi. It's also slightly pricier than most other Viet restaurants, as you'll pay at least $20 per dish including tax and tip. Still, the quality worth the price. I really enjoyed my Hanoi Beef Stew (#4); the broth was rich yet clear, and the beef was tender and savory. I was just in Hanoi myself and can say Pho Huong Viet makes better pho and bun cha. Highly recommend this place. read more

We came to this place randomly. We were looking for pho and the place we normally go to is temporarily closed so we sort of stumbled onto this place accidentally. We should've just walked here from my mom's house but we drove - again, not sure why because parking was difficult - but we did. We found parking, eventually. This place was not too busy, only a few tables were taken so we went in. The menu is very simple, not a ton of dishes which I like because it makes deciding way easier. The pho options are pretty straightforward. You pick the meat or vegetable you want or they have just plain pho. And the pricing is not too expensive and portion is not crazy. We got the regular (small) size and it's the perfect amount. It's flavorful and it's good for cold nights. Since it's a new place I think there were only a few people working. One gentleman was both the host and the waiter (possibly the owner) and there was one other waiter/bus boy on the floor. I imagine there are some chefs in the back but on the floor it's just the 2 guys, so service might be a bit slow - it was fast when we went because again, not that busy. Also because it wasn't busy it was quiet inside. I guess the secret came out because we tried going again a few weeks later and there was a line out the door and like a 2 hour wait. So check it out if you can, go early, and just keep in mind that there are only a few staff members so be patient. read more

Ordered pho ga from them as takeaway, there were multiple strands of chicken feather in my broth lol, ruined my appetite for the rest of the meal. Chicken meat also had a lot of fat in it. read more
Another gem in the Richmond serving phenomenal northern-style pho. The simple, focused menu doesn't overwhelm, and the service is efficient. We tried both the beef and chicken pho,the flavor of each broth was noticeably distinct. Both were incredibly clean, with the chicken broth carrying a subtle hint of lemongrass flavor to it. The condiment selection stood out too, every table had a jar of pickled sliced garlic. The wide noodles were fresh and perfectly soft. The ambiance was calm and inviting. I was still hungry when I left. Their #1 special beef pho, all meats $18.75 (M) felt more like a small. Their broth is clean tasting and is complex. There's no bean sprouts, Thai basil or hoisin sauce as it is northern style pho. This is my first time having julienned fresh ginger in pho. It prolly took them a lot work to slice them like that. While it didn't add anything to the taste of the pho, I can appreciate the effort. Not bad for San Francisco standards. I prefer going to SJ for some really good pho. Service was fine as I didn't have to wait for a table and the food came out quick. Tables were available at 1pm on a Sunday. read more
4 years and countless visits later, this place is still my favorite no frill hole in the wall pho spot. They specialize in Northern Vietnamese Hanoi style pho, so the broths are cleaner, less sweet and more refreshing, than the Saigon style pho where the broth is sweeter and served with bean sprouts, herbs, and hoisin sauce. I love hanoi pho more because of the thicker and softer rice noodles, clean broth, and the addition of ginger. If you are looking for hoisin sauce here, then you are in the wrong place! I always eat the pho with some of their special pickled garlic on the side and a chili in the broth to give it a nice kick. Pro tip: A spoonful of pickled garlic vinegar in the broth makes the broth tastes special every single time. Their mixed chicken dry pho (pho tron) hits every time too. It has thinly slices of lime leaves, roasted peanuts, fried shallots, chicken, pho, mixed in a really delicious sauce. Really good alternative to their beef pho on days when I'm not feeling soup. Their fried crab spring roll is really good too. The flavors are really well balanced and you can taste the crab. Service can be a little slow at times and you are welcomed with a semi-grumpy/tired viet uncle, but once you tasted the food you're guaranteed to leave the restaurant with a happy tummy and a smile. Used to be able to just walk in and always be able to sit down immediately, but now there's always a wait. This place is not so hole in the wall anymore! read more

I'm not in the Richmond much, but when I am, I like to take advantage and try a place that's been on my radar for a while. I've walked by the sign for this pho house several times. OK, maybe staggering from whatever bar tickled my fancy. This time, I was sober as a judge and ready for some late afternoon noodles. Pho sounded good, especially chicken pho. I was glad to see it prominently displayed on the menu. They even offered an all-dark meat option of their self-dubbed Charming Chicken Pho. The $18.75 Medium Thigh Only was their highest priced bowl, but what the hell, I deserved it (photo: https://yelp.to/04f09INQCH). Alas, I was somewhat disappointed. While there was plenty of thigh meat, the flat noodles were softer than I preferred and the broth fell a bit short on flavor and character. There was a large party at the front of the restaurant, so there wasn't much interaction from the manager. Ah well, I might come back some other time. Do you need reservations on sunday?
We accept both walk-ins and reservation. If you will be arriving with a large party, more than 5, it would be best to call in ahead of time in order for us to best serve you.
Do you still have banh cuon? I don't see it on the menu but see some pictures of it
Hi, Bánh Cuốn is not on the menu, however it is a “once in a while chef’s special”. Thank you for your question
Do they use pho noodle?or just the flat rice noodle?
they use flat noodles because they're northern style and have vermicelli noodles but not for pho.
What are your business hours?
for their soft opening times: open on Tuesday- Sunday, 11am -8pm
