BEWARE! They have majorly shady business practices. Read the other reviews about this. I'm not the only one to sound the alarm. The elder man who owns the restaurant is the only person who handles the payments and it's only done via his mobile payment device. On multiple occasions, I've seen him add on $1 or $2 to every check. So when you pay on his mobile device, it only says the total amount. He REFUSES to give you an itemized receipt (no wonder why). On two occasions when I asked him for a receipt, he scoffed off and walked away immediately after I paid with Apple Pay. Another time, when I was waiting for a table and someone ordered takeout, I saw him add $1 to their bill as well. When that person asked why he added $1, he scoffed and walked away again. While a dollar isn't much, he does this for EVERY bill, so you can imagine it adds up. That's why I refuse to eat here anymore - after four chances. While the food is good, the man is not an ethical business owner and he is very rude to customers. Please read the other reviews and you'll see it as well. I love this place downnn! This is my go-to pho spot in the city. Service- great. Food- amazing, fast and consistent. We've gotten their chicken pho, and the mixed chicken pho. The mixed chicken/dry noodle blew me away, it was so addicting. I love shallots so all the dried shallots on top made me feel like I was in my own personal heaven. After visiting my first time, I was already craving more. I have since visited a few more time and every time the food quality has been consistently great. I am very particular and picky with my chicken and typically don't order chicken pho because the chicken tends to be pretty dry. Their chicken here is so delectable and tender, doesn't have a weird "chicken" taste, and absorbs the pho broth very nicely. Normally chicken pho is neglected as most people opt for beef, but their chicken pho was absolutely the show stopper. The broth is flavorful and deep and doesn't make you feel heavy- like you've overloaded with salt afterwards. Also the tableside pickled onions and peppers are also delicious in the broth. Dry pho?? Who knew that was even a thing? I didn't--until now. The noodles come in one bowl with sauce and toppings, and the broth is served on the side. One bite in and it just works. IF YOU HAVE KIDS! Had to do my 1st yelp due to this. Came in to this place without really reading the yelp reviews. Walked in, waited to be seated for about 10 minutes without any acknowledgement from the owner/waiter. No one else was waiting to be seated besides us. He kept walking back and forth and still no acknowledgement at all. When I was about to leave he finally acknowledged us and sat us down without saying anything. Waited a bit to get our orders in. He was instantly rude asking us what we wanted to order. As we were waiting for our food I was reading a yelp review of this restaurant where a lady stated she came in with her young child and husband and he immediately told her there's no high chairs for her kid. As soon as I read that, a family of 3 came in with a baby stroller and he told them there was no table available and pretty much told them to leave. He didn't even tell them they could wait to get a table in a bit at all. It seems like he does not like babies, toddlers or young kids, he immediately dismissed them. He is very rude. Environment inside is so weird, so quiet, where everyone feels like you can't have a conversation in a normal tone because you'll get in trouble. Like if you were in school and you'll get caught by your teacher and get detention. He never came to check on us at all until it was time to pay. Be aware if you have kids most likely he'll dismiss you. The pho that we got was actually good enough but the customer service ruined the whole experience in this restaurant. Pho Huong Viet is a great find if you're looking for more authentic Northern Vietnamese dishes in San Francisco, especially specialties from Hanoi that you don't often see on local menus like phở gà trộn and bún chả. I came specifically for the phở gà trộn and it did not disappoint - it was remarkably close to what I've had in Hanoi, and I absolutely loved the mix of flavors and textures in the "dry" bowl of noodles (it's not in a broth but does have a sauce that you mix in), with the accompanying bowl of broth a nice way to change up each bite. I also ordered the nem (deep fried crab rolls) to pair with my noodles but those were a bit of a letdown as the flavor was a bit one note but it probably didn't help that they arrived at the very end of my meal (and only after I flagged someone down to check on the order). On service, there wasn't really anyone to greet guests on arrival so a group of us were left to simply stand around and wait to eventually get seated. Also to note, the food does take quite a long time to come out so I would recommend knowing what you want ahead of time so you can order as soon as you get seated. All that said, the deliciousness of the phở gà trộn and the appeal of the broader menu make me want to come back to try more items, and I'm hoping the uneven service was just an off day rather than the norm. read more

Instead you have pickled garlic in vinegar and the normal fish sauce and sriracha hot sauce. Special beef pho with all the meats 5/5: The beef broth was very flavorful and much more clean tasting (not heavily spiced) as is customary for northern Vietnamese phos. The beef pho came with ginger and cilantro and green onions. We ordered the beef pho with all the meats and they for sure do not skip on the meat portions despite us ordering a medium size! Charming chicken pho 5/5: we got the chicken pho with the default thigh and breast meat but you can always order it with just thigh or just breast. Broth was also very flavorful despite it being so simple. The chicken pho came with cilantro, green onions, and kaffir lime leaves. The kaffir lime leaves were unexpected but were a great addition to the dish. Don't forget to also add their pickled garlic in vinegar to your pho! This older man walks around very ambitious with his little credit card terminal ready to charge anyone who is anyone. He gives no receipt. He is the owner and the waiter. But he does not give any service and just expects tip. All he does is walk around and collect money & does the very minimum. I've given this place multiple chances over the years, but unfortunately each experience has been uncomfortable in one way or another. The first time was around 2022. My family and I arrived about 30 minutes before closing, and the owner told us he would still serve us. After seating us, though, he immediately pressured us to order quickly and told us we had to eat fast because they were closing. I was with my elderly relatives too so just turn us away? If that was the case, it would've been better to simply not seat us. Don't be greedy just bc you want a few bucks. Another time, my husband called to order Hanoi-style pho to go, and the owner responded with unnecessary attitude, saying that's the only kind they serve. LOL, ok. The interaction felt rude for no reason. Most recently, we came on Mother's Day. The dishwasher/staff member was also unfriendly. The bun cha was decent according to my mom, and my husband said the beef stew noodle dish was okay, but my pho lacked flavor entirely. I wasn't expecting it to compare to pho in Vietnam or even San Jose, but it tasted very bland so I didn't finish it. The service from the owner continues to be the biggest issue. We came to this place randomly. We were looking for pho and the place we normally go to is temporarily closed so we sort of stumbled onto this place accidentally. We should've just walked here from my mom's house but we drove - again, not sure why because parking was difficult - but we did. We found parking, eventually. I love hanoi pho more because of the thicker and softer rice noodles, clean broth, and the addition of ginger. If you are looking for hoisin sauce here, then you are in the wrong place! I always eat the pho with some of their special pickled garlic on the side and a chili in the broth to give it a nice kick. Pro tip: A spoonful of pickled garlic vinegar in the broth makes the broth tastes special every single time. Their mixed chicken dry pho (pho tron) hits every time too. It has thinly slices of lime leaves, roasted peanuts, fried shallots, chicken, pho, mixed in a really delicious sauce. Really good alternative to their beef pho on days when I'm not feeling soup. The Charming Chicken Pho keeps me coming back! I love the broth, meat, and toppings. They add lime leaves which I've never had with a chicken pho. It ready added fragrance to the already rich broth. The crab imperial rolls were delicious and crispy. The Thai tea was also yummy. All of their food is northern Vietnamese style, so some regularly expected pho toppings like bean sprouts and hoisin sauce weren't available. The waiter seated us and took our order promptly. We waited a bit for the bill before flagging him down, and then he gave it to us on the spot. For addition service like water refills you are better off flagging someone down and asking. I love the ambiance of the restaurant. A lot of natural night pours in from their sun roof and window toward the street. The dining room feels homey yet orderly. Nothing hits like a hot bowl of soup on a cold, raining day. Visited for a hot bowl of pho but ended up ordering the Glassy Mixed Chicken Mein, which comes with chicken, bean sprouts, fried shallots, cilantro, peanuts and a side of broth. Since the dish is served dry, the noodles remained al dente texture. The meat was tender, and I love the crispy shallots bits. The flavor was great. A splash of the garlic vinegar, unique to Northern Style - Hanoi, Vietnam, brought it to another level. Finishing it all off with a bowl of broth was perfect. The crab spring rolls were really tasty too. The skin was thin and crispy and packed with flavor. No greasy aftertaste. Definitely recommended when dining with a friend. This is a casual dining spot. Large interior with plenty of seating on a Wednesday night dinner. We were served and saw only one waitstaff, but service was efficient and the food arrived quickly. If you're in the area, this place is definitely worth a visit! Just be aware that parking can be a challenge. read more

The restaurant was busy, which is usually a good sign. However, I was surprised by what happened when we sat down. The restaurant emphasizes that they serve "authentic pho," but we found it odd that they have zero vegetables on the menu--none in the pho and no vegetable side dishes, salads, or other vegetable options available. When we asked, "Do you have any vegetables?" the response was an immediate and blunt "No." The employee wasn't rude, but he clearly seemed accustomed to being asked that question. Since we were looking for a meal that included at least some vegetables, we decided to leave without ordering. While the restaurant may appeal to others, I can't recommend it based on our experience. read more

The food was amazing but the waiter was very rude. The woman who welcomed us was so nice. We drove an hour to try this restaurant and he rushed us to order and demanded we not order any more. He did not check on us throughout our meal. He then showed up to provide our check and when we shared that we loved one of the dishes and wanted to order another to go, he rolled his eyes, shook his head and seemed offended that he had to return with an updated bill. Due to this, we will not be returning due to the abundant of amazing restaurants available in the city. read more
