We all ordered the lunch special bento which came with pick 3 items for $18 which included miso soup, rice, tea and salad. What a deal and how nice that it is available on the weekends too. Everything was yummy! The teriyaki sauce could be a little more rich. Gyoza came out hot with a nice crust. CA had beautiful creamy avocados to go with the crab and rice. There is only residential parking on the street. I'm guessing most of their clientele is the hospital across the street, residents and the underground muni half a block away. Great place for Happy Hour or early dinner with great food at great prices. We ordered mostly from the happy hour menu and the portion sizes were not skimpy. Favorites were the 21 pc Omakase $30, a combination of fish sashimi, the shrimp tempura - a delicious combo of veggies and shrimp $12, the chicken karage $6 was delicious with about 5-6 pcs and the rolls were only $6 and the salmon skin and tempura were really good. A large sake was only $6 during happy hour. Staff were quick and efficient. As we were literally in and out within an hour. Happened to stumble upon this amazing sushi spot in the Forest Hill / Laguna Honda area--and we're so glad we did! The menu has a great variety, and the Happy Hour selections are fantastic. Everything we ordered was prepared perfectly, and the fish was incredibly fresh. One standout item that you don't see very often is their CORN TEMPURA --it was absolutely delicious! My daughter and I seriously can't stop thinking about it. All in all, this has officially become our favorite sushi spot in the city. DEAL! In a halfhearted attempt to save a little cash LOL, we ordered the following from their Happy Hour Menu: Mixed Sashimi (11 pieces for $17) - well, the pieces aren't huge, but they were fresh. Salmon, Tuna and Albacore. It doesn't come with any kind of rice, so I ordered a bowl of $3 sushi rice on the side. Overall 4/5 - definitely fresh and on point, but I just wish the pieces were a tad bigger. The Albacore was a bit too cold in temperature. Then again, $17 isn't a bad deal as it was. I suppose my expectations were a tad high here. Agedashi Tofu - Totally on point, super hot and perfectly prepared. (4.8/5) Chicken Yakitori - ok.. not really dry, but the teri sauce kind of overwhelmed it. (3.7/5) California Roll - simple, on point, good ingredients, supple rice at proper temperature. Well executed. (4.7/5) My partner in crime ordered the Chasu Ramen. While the slices of Chasu were wafer thin, the Chasu was very flavorful and not too fatty. The broth was simple and not complex nor overly fatty. Just a decent simple bowl this is. The egg yolk was a little more cooked than we liked, and only a tiny bit runny. Overall, the quality of the fish is fairly good, and they offer a rotating menu of specials plus a surprisingly expansive happy hour that's an especially great deal on weekends. One nitpick on the sashimi platter is that some pieces feel a bit small, almost like a single normal slice has been cut into two, so it can come across as a little skimpy. The place is very small and tables can be hard to get in and out. I had to squeeze through awkwardly. I ordered the regular chirashi, toro heaven roll, spicy bazaar roll, and spider. The food took quite some time to come out because they do DoorDash as well. Everything was decently sized and all the rolls were very tasty. The chirashi had nice sized pieces of fish. The rice lacked vinegar and seasoning. It was more plain rice and some of the chirashi rice had ponzu leak down. The spider had a very nice crab flavor since the crab was meaty which I appreciated. They have a variety of items to choose from which is nice especially if not everyone in your party eats sushi or you want to mix it up. Yoji Sushi House is a spot I can see myself coming back to often when I want good sushi without spending a fortune. The quality of the fish really stands out. The hamachi hand roll was flavorful, though one piece was a touch tougher, while the double toro was the highlight of the night, super fresh and absolutely delicious. I also tried the bento box, which was an excellent value. The tempura was on the heavier side, more of a hearty fry than the light and airy style some places do, but still satisfying. This is a local secret gem steps from Forest Hill Station. Service is always friendly and helpful with explanations of the food and no judgment or attitude. Food is yummy, well prepared and fresh. Restaurant is clean (they just got new wood tables) amply lit but still has a cool vibe to it. Parking is easy and free if you go across the street on Laguna Honda Blvd. near either St John's or True Light Church. They have a nice happy hour too. I've been to Yoji twice for happy hour and each time the food has been really good. The Mixed Sashimi came with bluefin tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and albacore...total of 11 pieces for $17. The sashimi tasted great both times! The fish in the mixed sashimi can vary depending on their daily fish selection so it might not be the same each time. The Agedashi Tofu was delicious and we enjoyed all of the rolls we ordered - the sake avocado roll, California roll, tempura shrimp roll, and their veggie roll - the Garden roll. The rolls were not large or elaborate, but not bad for their happy hour price of $5. I tried the Black Truffle Edamame, which was good, but the black truffle flavor was very mild. Yoji Sushi is a small restaurant, with small tables (not good for big groups), across from Laguna Honda. It's a great sushi restaurant for the locals in the area. My group of 4 got here at 4pm on a Saturday and was seated right away. We ordered the 21 piece sashimi, 4 rolls and the karaage chicken. The sashimi was very fresh; it is a super good deal. All of the rolls were delicious, I liked the salmon skin one, it's different than what you would typically find at a sushi restaurant. The size of the rolls were pretty large too, which was unexpected for happy hour. The karaage chicken was tender and juicy but I wish the outside coating was a bit more crunchy! This place has been around for a few years. Keep your eyes peeled when you drive by, or you might miss it! It's right next to a French restaurant that is also really good. It's in a perfect location for getting off of a street car at Forest Hill station and walking up the hill for dinner. Parking is also surprisingly easy in the area and I was able to get a spot about 50 feet away from the front door. The sushi, while not a huge selection, is very good. They regularly have Uni, which is one of my favorites. They're O-Toro is excellent. For dessert try the homemade tiramisu, it's surprisingly good. The prices are about what you would expect for a small sushi restaurant in San Francisco. They do have a happy hour from 4 PM to 6 PM that you can get sushi specials and sake for less expensive. I have been here multiple times throughout the years and the service is always been really good. My server tonight was very attentive and knowledgeable about the sushi. Relatively easy street parking in the adjacent neighborhood. There is a parking lot at the end of the street but I'm not sure if diners can park there. We were seated right away in the smallish restaurant which was very cozy and inviting. We went specifically to try the happy hour menu since we have early dinner anyway. It definitely was a great choice. The Happy hour menu has many high value quality choices. I would like to give a shout out to the chef for their 21 piece sashimi special. So Good!! THREE SOME - (Tuna, yellowtail, eel, cucumber, avocado, wasabi, tobiko, and soy glaze). We ordered a Three Some but didn't know it was 5 pieces for $16?! That's over $3 per piece?? It should say how many pieces, if it's less than a typical special roll which usually consists of 8 pieces. It had a little too much sauce that we couldn't taste much. It's not like the fish in the roll are that expensive and would justify the price. 2/5 DOUBLE TORO ROLL - (Salmon belly, avocado, & mango, topped with fatty tuna and kizami wasabi). This roll was ok. The mango gave it some tartness and crunch. But I can't say it wowed me either. 3/5 TONKATSU RAMEN - (Soft boiled egg, spinach, bamboo shoots, nori, onion crunch and scallions). Tonkatsu ramen was decent. I liked that you get a whole soft-boiled egg, though it's missing the flavors when it's seasoned. I make my own at home and it makes it taste so much better! Though it was a nice touch to have the orange yolk which is like the eggs in Japan. The noodle texture could be chewier, but it wasn't soggy which is a plus. This bowl saved me from starving. 4/5 I can't say we'll be back since this place is not an area we frequent. The food never disappoints and the staff always gives us a warm welcome and are friendly and helpful. Randomly decided to go out for dinner on a Thursday night. Found Yoji on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Parked in the neighborhood and walked over. The restaurant was fairly empty and was seated right away. Restaurant has an odd feel for a Japanese restaurant though. Fake brick walls with random cafe decor. Haha Sometimes I'm hesitant about getting rolls because they all seem to taste the same after awhile (mayo, unagi sauce, tempura bits etc). Having said that, we ordered a bunch of rolls and everything tasted great. Fish was fresh and the rolls were a good size. O-toro was buttery, Saba had the salty sea taste that i like, and the 2 rolls (volcano and cache creek) we got were quite good. We'll definitely be back, maybe for happy hour next time. read more
