My second visit here and still love their food and service. There were only two of us this time and we ordered one bowl of 5 spice chicken pho and an order of Imperial rolls. The servings were generous and we had more than enough to eat with leftovers for another meal. The pho came with a side of basil, bean sprouts, and lemon although they're not pictured. To escape the heat of South Bay we drove up to SF for the day. We originally wanted to hit up an uber popular place down the street but saw the hideously long line. The Meats were in decent condition and tasted good but the broth was lackluster. Definitely needed a lot of doctoring and even then something was missing a little bit. Not disappointed though, just not my preference. * Garlic Noodles - The quantity for a side of Garlic Noodles was pretty generous. Taste wise (according to my girlfriend) they were good but not anything of note / exceptional * Fresh Rolls - I actually liked these a good amount. They were extremely light and refreshing. This may not be for you if you are looking for a heavier appetizer (my girlfriend didn't care for these as much) All in all, Perilla serves some decent Vietnamese food but I think there are some better options, especially for Pho, in the area. We walked in to Perilla on a Saturday during lunch, and were seated right away. I came in already knowing I wanted the Five Spice Chicken with garlic noodles and imperial rolls (#27) since it seemed like the most popular dish. My boyfriend got the Charbroiled beef with garlic noodles and imperial rolls (#24) with an extra order of beef. Our meal was super filling and balanced! They don't skimp out on either the noodles or the protein (definitely could have done without the extra beef we ordered). The chicken was juicy but the skin stayed crispy. The charbroiled beef had the smallest hint of sweetness for me. The noodles had a nice chew to them, and were dry but in the best way possible. A lot of garlic noodles tend to be too oily and leave an unpleasant lingering mouthfeel, but that wasn't the case here. The noodles could have used more garlic for my preference, but I think it was well balanced with the flavorful protein and fish sauce. The imperial rolls were okay and a nice crunchy side. I wouldn't get them as a separate appetizer, but only $1 more to add to your dish is unbeatable. The spring rolls had too much vermicelli for my preference; the ratio just seemed off. The beef was pretty good, no comments. The pork had great flavor in the marinade, but I do wish that it had more of a smoky char flavor. The chicken though, was absolutely the star; I don't normally order chicken at restaurants, but it was super flavorful and crispy and easily the best dish of the day. The garlic noodles were really great, very flavorful as well; however, it was a little dry, and given the ratio of noodles to protein, it was very hard to eat all of the noodles. A gem in Inner Sunset! Walked in on a cold Monday evening and was craving something brothy and hearty. I was debating between the beef combo pho and curry chicken vermicelli, but our waiter recommended the satay beef pho--and safe to say, it was delicious and hit the spot! We originally wanted to swap out the imperial rolls (fried ground pork rolls) with shrimp rolls, but we weren't able to. Regardless, the imperial rolls were delicious, crispy, and filled to the brim with the meat filling. Perilla is now one of my go-to spots for Vietnamese food.
