I can't say anything bad about this place. I LOOOOOVE this place and the idea of rolling spring rolls together with family and friends. I don't have to clean up or cook all those yummy proteins to go in our spring rolls + you get to eat them super fresh! This is a small quaint place. Be sure to make a reservation before you go. We waited about 1 1/2 hours, and the service is a bit slow. They are not in a rush to clean up tables so they could seat the next guests. It's more like a we'll seat them when we seat them. No sense of urgency. The food is really good and fresh, but beware that their most popular items do contain peanuts inside of them. The river prawns were a bit overrated in my opinion. This restaurant is a fun place to go with friends and make your own spring rolls at the table. The portions were pretty large and every table gets a giant plate of vegetables and plenty of rice paper for the rolls. The meats had really good flavor. My favorites were the shrimp (had a nice charred/grilled flavor), along with the pork sausage (sweet and tender). However my friends and I agreed that the food was rather oily so it didn't make us feel great after eating. It can get crowded inside as well. Service was very slow and it took us a long time to get seated and also get our food. Given the slow service and very oily meats, I probably would not come back. It has been a MINUTE since I've been back at Anh Hong, but as always, it did not disappoint! We used to go back in the day when they were still in the TL doing the seven courses of beef. They don't do that anymore, but they still have the same stuff you just have to order à la carte. The restaurant isn't huge, but they're definitely giving more upscale vibes, and I highly recommended making a reservation because they definitely get busy. You end up with a lot of food on the table so it's nice that the tables are huge! We ordered a bunch of things, including their beef carpaccio, beef wrap, grilled pork, and imperial roll dishes, but I think what stood out the most were the prawns! Ambiance: We got here right as they opened and are we glad we did. There's a maybe 10 small tables and 2 large tables, but they had several large party reservations, so it's good to make reservations if you can. It wasn't super loud in there, the lighting is bright. My only complaint is the bathroom is very slick. Be careful when going in there. Service: We got seated pretty quickly, they took our order quickly without feeling rushed. We had a few questions about some pictures we saw online that looked good. Our waitress was very friendly and the food came out really quickly. The only issue is that a two top table is far too small for the amount of plates needed. Everything came out in different courses, so it manageable. They were also good about refilling water - something I love about a restaurant. (I get very thirsty.) Food: Every table has a basket of rice paper and a small plate on top of a big plate. They also bring out a big plate of veggies after you order and a bowl of warm water to make your rolls. My friend and I ate the whole thing, shell and all. The underlying sauce was also thick and perfect for dipping the shrimp and the noodle squares. We're probably going to go back this week for this dish. We had it a few hours ago and we're still thinking about it and texting each other about it. It's really very good. Lastly, we got the nem nuong (we were going to get the rack of lamb, but I said we should get something we don't normally get). These pork sausages were so juicy and it came with a fried, rolled wonton wrapper?? (I don't know what it's made of!) We wrapped these in the rice paper with all the side veggies and I wrapped the whole rice paper with the lettuce. I was not very good at wrapping these and definitely need more practice. I love that you can roll and customize your own spring rolls, it's so fun! You can order any filling - grilled pork, nem, fishcake with sugarcane, lamb, beef, gigantic prawns. I also really love the crispy rice topped with a fried egg. They have a great list of drinks, both alcoholic and nonalcoholic. They also partner with their next door neighbors to provide specialty cocktails and mocktails. The service is fast and friendly - Harry is the best!! They are super attentive to your needs and take care of everything... it really feels like eating with your aunties and uncles who want to keep feeding you more and more food The restaurant is beautiful and nicely spaced out for small and large groups. Our group of 6 came for dinner to celebrate a birthday - I called earlier in the week to put in a reservation for 8pm. We found street parking around the block, and checked in with the workers at 8pm; we didn't end up getting seated until around 8:30pm though - I think there was a party that was taking longer than expected before us. I've been wanting to come to Anh Hong for a while now, because as much as I love spring roll night at home, there are only so many fillings you can prepare yourself at home. We started with the beef carpaccio, which wasn't anything too notable, but a nice light appetizer to start, and then ordered 4 different proteins - the nem nuong (which came with rice netting and crispy rolled rice paper), bo nuong la lot (the wrapped beef sausage), the tom nuong banh hoi (grilled shrimps with rice noodle squares), and the cha gio saigon (egg rolls with rice noodle squares) - everything was delicious, but we all loved the grilled shrimp, and I was really surprised by how tender the wrapped beef was! THe amount of veggies, herbs, and rice paper were VERY generous, and definitely enough for everyone to make as many spring rolls as they'd like! It was also super affordable, I think less than $30 a person, and we were stuffed by the end. Came here on a weekday night and was seated immediately. I liked the dimmer light aesthetics of the place, which included many cork decorations and vibrant paintings on the wall. I wanted to try their Nem Nuong, but the table next to me ordered the last few. When they handed us our waters, my water cup was dirty and had black specks, and so I had to ask for a new one. We ordered their Bo Nuong La Lot and Thit Banh Hoi. Both dishes were delicious and flavorful! The Bo Nuong La Lot, or grilled beef wrapped in leaves had a nice smoky aroma and went well with a dipping sauce. The new space is beautiful, nicely sized, and a great place for bigger group dinners. The service is also wonderful: very quick and accommodating of your needs. You honestly cannot go wrong with the menu; everything is absolutely delicious. The real stars for me are the fresh vegetables that come with the dishes. They are so incredibly crisp and they offer unlimited refills! The fresh, crispy veggies pair so perfectly with their juicy meat dishes and make for such a clean and refreshing meal. We used to go to the restaurant in the tenderloin, but since Covid, things happened, and now Ánh Hồng has moved to a better area of town, on Clement and 36th avenue, in front of Andronico's supermarket. The restaurant is very nicely decorated. We began with cha gio, the Vietnamese egg rolls, and they are very well done here, deep fried in rice paper and not lumpia wrap. Then we had the beef carpaccio, tender sliced of beef well seasoned. Then came the bò nhúng dấm, a shabu shabu type of raw slices of beef to be dipped in a pot of vinegar then wrapped in rice paper with lettuce and herbs, a do it yourself type of roll. Then we had a ground beef type of meatballs, and then some grilled beef wrapped in lá lốt leaves ( very similar to grapes leaves ), beef wrapped in beef fat and beef grilled with onions. We also had beef and shrimp skewers. The meal is wrapped up with a beef porridge, very light. We will come back next time to try the shrimp wrapped sugar cane, and my favorite, those big grilled prawns !!! We totally enjoyed the authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Was looking for someone where with bò lá lốt -- seasoned ground beef wrapped in betel leaf, and was very excited to find it! This is essentially a Vietnamese 7 courses of beef spot (bò 7 món) x DIY "spring roll" spot where you order from a menu of various meats that come with a side plate of fresh herbs, along with basically unlimited rice paper, nước mắm (fish sauce) and mắm nêm (fermented anchovy sauce ) as well. You do roll everything yourself, so it is also a fun opportunity to try your hand at making a pretty roll -- Easier said than done. We ordered bò lá lốt, as well as the nem nướng. As a Brodard loyalist and lover of nem nướng, I was very excited to see this on the menu as an option. Overall, I thought their nem nướng was well seasoned, and I appreciated the fried crunchy egg roll wrapper, which is quintessential for a good nem nướng roll. I wish I had tasted more of the grilled, smoky flavor that makes nem nướng so yummy. As well, what makes Brodard (and nem nướng in Nha Trang) so special is the orange sauce -- tương chấm nem nướng -- special for this dish; unfortunately, that was not available with the nem nướng here, and so dipping in fish sauce was quite underwhelming for me. The bò lá lốt was great though -- It is nice to see this dish get served and get a taste of home, as it's something I usually can only get at home from family meals. The meat was well seasoned, fried appropriately, and the betel leaf added the perfect unique fragrance that makes this dish so unique. I also appreciated that the rolls were served with bánh hỏi rather than bún, since detangling all that can be annoying sometimes. The interior design was interesting -- Restaurant was quite clean, modern, though confusing if this was a french vs british va italian ? vibe they were going for.. perhaps pan-European? Wish they offered cá nướng, but I see they have another location that may have that, so will likely pay that a visit. I love a spot that can accommodate a big party. I called 3 weeks in advance and was able to modify and update the time and party size with a ease. We ordered: -egg rolls -carpaccio (raw beef) -rack of lamb -nem nuong -Banh xeo (Vietnamese crepes) -porridge -chao Tom banh hoi (shrimp wrapped around a sugar cane) - don't forget the suck on the sugar cane! -all 3 different types of beef wraps/rolls Everything can be paired with your preference of veggies, noodle squares, and can be wrapped as a spring roll with choice of fish sauce and shrimp paste. We had tons of orders and everyone left stuffed! Even my friend who ate said he was stuffed before he came could not stop eating and trying everything. Def a great place to eat at; however, probably would skip the porridge for next time. Parking can at times be challenging but not as challenging as some other neighborhoods. I was so excited to check out this place. The entire experience (not considering the taste of the food) was so unappetizing. Date of visit: Thursday, May 28, 2026 - The air was so heavy when you walk in. It felt like the floors were mopped with dirty water. That coupled with the general heat of the room made it suffocating. - But the floors and rubber mats were annoyingly sticky. We were waiting by the front door for a few minutes for a table and I debated bailing on the meal. I didn't want to take any more steps on the intensely sticky floors. - Was seated at a two-top by the front window. Immediately noticed the window ledge is covered in rings of some liquid. The staff apologized multiple times how the table will be too small to fit our food (ordered two plates of meat) and kept telling us to offload the water carafe and sauce dispensers onto the window ledge. AH - so that's what those substances are.... - That was so off-putting, I can go on an entire rant about this. 1. If you know your tables are too small for your service, why use that table and why sit me there... 2. Why are you all acting like putting my sauce and water containers on the dirty, un-sanitized window ledge is acceptable 3. You can't even wipe down this window ledge between parties? - The plates and water glasses that were already staged on the table had crusted dried substances on it. I could not trust the quality of the water so decided not to drink any of it. - Food was very tasty, as expected. One issue was the cucumbers were SO bitter. I overheard another guest telling the staff the cucumbers were very bitter today, and it seemed like no one cared. I get that cucumber skin can vary in the bitterness - they could have taken this feedback and know to shave off more of the skin than typical to remove the bitterness. Overall, extremely disappointed by the entire experience. I am also very confused why no one seems to address these issues? I kept hearing about Anh Hong on social media and decided to give it a try (even though I'm often disappointed by influencer recs lol), and I'm happy to say that this was soooo good!! My friends and I came on a weekday around 645pm and we got seated immediately. The restaurant was about half full but there were always new parties coming in. The appetizer list is small and nothing really caught our eye, so we ordered from the main course list only. They also gave us two enormous plates of veggies and herbs to wrap in the spring rolls, and each table came prepared with a bowl of rice paper. - Grilled beef with lemongrass and onion: this was so flavorful! The beef was so tender and easy to bite into, even with the strands of onion wrapped inside, and the lemongrass flavor was there but not overpowering. - Vietnamese grilled pork skewers: I was first introduced to nem nuong many years ago at brodard's, but I feel like you don't see it at a lot of SF viet restaurants, so I was super excited to have it here. It was soooo good, the perfect balance of savory and sweet, and not too salty. - Half rack of lamb: I've never had lamb at a viet restaurant so was curious how it would taste, and I was pleasantly surprised! The meat was tender and not gamey. I probably would order other meats next time though, since this came with the bone in and couldn't be wrapped in a spring roll. - Do chua (pickled radish and carrot): I have to give a shoutout to the do chua on the veggie plate bc this is one of my favorite sides and it was sooo fresh and crunchy and pickled perfectly with a balanced sweet and vinegary flavor. The food is a little on the pricier side but still within reason, and it's great for those of us who don't want to prepare all the protein to wrap spring rolls at home. One thing to note is that the server didn't ask if we needed instructions for wrapping the spring rolls, and just dropped off bowls of hot water along with the meat. We knew what we were doing so it was fine, but it might be helpful to ask customers if they're familiar with the dish. Anh Hong is an amazing addition to the Richmond area and SF food scene in general! We definitely need more DIY Vietnamese spring roll restaurants around the SF Bay Area. The restaurant isn't massive, but it's quite comfortable. Be prepared for a wait if you're coming here during peak hours. Once you're seated, you'll see that the spring roll wrappers and all the veggies are laid out for you. All you need to do is order whatever appetizers and proteins you want to put in your spring rolls. Then, once you order, it's totally up to you to wrap your own rolls! Food quality is great. My first time at Anh Hong was yearsssss ago when they were located at the Tenderloin. Fast forward to now, this new location is a lot safer, quieter, and the food is still good. If you haven't had 7 course beef, you deserve 7 fingers in the face; one hand slap and two fingers up the nostrils. Boo-yah. I made reservations for a Friday and was seated at a large table. This location is a lot smaller but I'm ok with that, more intimate that way, giggity giggity. Came at around 7:30 pm on a Saturday and someone from our party made a reservation for our table of 5. The restaurant is very clean and modern, with lots of dark wood bearings. Their menu mainly focused on the different meats you could order and they provided you with all the ingredients you need to make spring rolls. Beef Salad - It was very refreshing and light with a lot of vegetables. Came with shrimp chips that you could add the salad on top of or you could eat it on its own. Egg Rolls - This was one of my favorites from the night. It was crispy and packed with flavor from the meat and seasonings inside. A little more heavy so it went nicely with all the other fresh ingredients I added into my spring roll. Shrimp Rolls on Sugarcane - Super soft and the being wrapped around the sugarcane added a mild sweetness to it. Grilled Beef with Lemongrass and Onion - A little more tough to bite through than the others but it had a nice smoky flavor to it. The lemongrass came through and the onion was a good crunchy element in it. We also ordered meat that wasn't listed on the menu and it came with a mini soup hot pot that we had to cook it in. The meat had nice marbling and it was so soft and tender, melted in my mouth. All the ingredients they provided were so fresh and more than enough for everyone. A super fun place to go with friends or a bigger group if you want to make some spring rolls together! read more
