First time trying Big Foot Inn last night (for our anniversary) and all I can say is "WOW! WOW! WOW!" I've seen many great reviews on the place and today's our wedding anniversary, so we drove the 35 minutes from Crystal Lake and boy, it was absolutely worth it! As you drive up, the building is nicely maintained but unassuming. That all changes in a great way once you get inside! Perfection begins as you enter! Big Foot Inn is restauranting the way it ought to be! First, you notice that the place is super clean! The service (our server was Liza) was exquisite and the food was even better! My wife and I both had filet, which were each prepared precisely as ordered. The entrees came with a relish tray, hot rolls, soup, a potato, and vegetable. So much amazing food! My wife had the chicken soup and I had french onion soup (my favorite restaurant soup! So good!) And my wife adored the home-made taste of hers! The owner (I think I heard his name is Dominic) was front of house through most of our visit. He visited every table, making sure every customer's experience was perfect! I went there for the first time last month for the Sunday Brunch. I was less than impressed. The food was strictly average at best. I haven't had anything off of the menu yet so it wouldn't be fair to rate it under a 3 Star. I will order from the menu at my next visit and update my review. We've visited BFI dozens of times over the years. We grew up in the area and the Friday fish fry is best in class. Recently my dad passed away and we had a get together after the funeral there. We asked the owner and his wife for finger food/appetizers and desserts plus an open bar. The foods we requested weren't normal menu items but Dominick came through flawlessly. It was a casual open house type event in the back room and he kept the food coming while constantly checking with me about what we wanted more of. Everything was fabulous. read more

We decided, after 10 years, give the Big Foot Inn after getting the recommendation of a local bar owner, who said the new owners are doing a great job. We were very glad we did. The menu was pretty extensive, but not outrageously so. Being only a few feet, literally, from the Wisconsin border, it does the supper club tradition proud. All entrees include the relish tray, bread, soup or salad-including a nice French onion with PLENTY of Gruyère (or at least Swiss) cheese...at no extra charge. (Are you reading this, Sopra ?). Our group tried the Ribeye, Prime rib, short rib, and the Veal Marsala, and everyone raved about the food. I personally had the star of the show, a 16 oz. Berkshire Pork Chop, which, for a $2.00 upcharge, I had Vesuvius style. This was the best pork dish in the area, which is saying a lot, given that two of the competitors are the chops at Jonathan's in Delavan and the Eisbein mit sauerkraut special at the Heritage House in Harvard. Cocktails were nicely priced and tasty, and our server, Kaylea, was a sweetheart. The only downside was the ambience. The place is very dated. The bar area fit the kitschy, appropriately old fashioned image of the late '60s through mid '70s era. The main dining room had a similar vibe, but was incredibly warm (just that room) and the lights were a bit too bright-even if a number of the bulbs in the chandeliers were burned out in more than a few spots. We were a larger group, so we were seated in the front of the restaurant, just off the main area. My brother mentioned that it look like it was decorated more like a roadside coffee shop in rural Wisconsin. Very light paint on the walls and uneven wainscoting. The lighting in this room was bright enough to perform surgery! Food/drink 4.5 stars, wine selection needs improvement and this would be a 5 Service 4.5 Excellent, some forgotten items required a short wait. Ambience 2.5 a few dimmer switches being used/installed, a warmer paint job, replace missing bulbs, and perhaps the butcher paper tearing station could be partitioned off from the room. We will be back, and recommend this with an alert to not judge the book by its cover. read more

The food is excellent on the Sunday Brunch. The staff makes you feel that you are their main priority. I have taken my Mom there before but this Sunday we were celebrating her Birthday...her 97th Birthday. She was the queen as far as Dominic and his staff was concerned. They sang happy birthday to her with a piece of cake and a lighted candle. Dominic and his wife bought my Mom's dinner. Everyone needs to visit The Bigfoot Inn. My only complaint was that the bar was darkly lit compared to the rest of the restaurant. Other than that the Bartender made an excellent Old Fashioned, tasty and strong! Host was hilarious and very attentive. Waitress did a great job and the food was delicious! And they had the traditional relish tray. Definitely coming back to try the fish fry! read more

There's a burg on the Wisconsin/Illinois border, on US 14, about halfway between Chicago and Janesville, WI , or halfway between Rockford, IL and Milwaukee. Name of the town is Bigfoot. No relation to the legendary monster whom we never see. Blink and you'll miss Bigfoot. There's a cemetery. A used car dealer. A closed manufacturing facility of some sort, and a "Welcome to Illinois" highway sign. The Bigfoot High School is in Walworth, WI, a few miles north. Bigfoot is also home (since the mid 1940s) to the Bigfoot Inn, a survivor of a dying breed of restaurants in the Upper Midwest we call "Supper Clubs," which wikipedia defines as "a dining establishment generally found in the Upper Midwestern states of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Iowa. These establishments typically are located on the edge of town in rural areas." Supper clubs became popular during the 1930s and 1940s, and generally feature "simple" menus with somewhat limited offerings featuring "American" cuisine. Menus include dishes such as prime rib, steaks, chicken, and fish. An all-you-can-eat Friday night fish fry is particularly common at Wisconsin supper clubs. Full meals are quite inclusive, starting with a relish tray, cracker basket or rolls and butters, and entrees generally include soup, salad, starch and vegetable. Some establishments even include dessert. The Bigfoot Inn is no exception to the aforementioned generalities, but their menu is quite extensive, features daily and nightly specials, and offers an AYCE champagne brunch on Sundays. The establishment is open seven days, has a large, full bar, and video gambling machines. Spoiler alert. Was I ever impressed! Our server "the guy from Elkhorn," was informed and attentive without being intrusive. He knew the menu and the area well. He boasted that everything was made from scratch, and after eating (btw, servings are HUGE), I had no reason to doubt his claim. I over ordered, because there were so many good things on the menu. Started with appetizers of saganaki (flambed cheese, a Chicago thing) and perfect onion rings, large cut, nice breading, mildly seasoned, fried perfectly. Along with the appetizers came complimentary crackers, rolls, butter, and cheese spread (another geographical thing). Soup? Yes please, and a tale from the server of when he met the actual "Soup Nazi." Salad, with a wide choice of dressings, and then the entree; they come with vegetables and a choice of many different starches. With my Wienerschnitzel Holstein style, I went with steak fries. Couldn't finish the steak or the even start on the fries, was too full with the prelims. Also at the table, perfectly grilled, inch thick pork chops, a huge spud with all the fixins' brought without asking. $70 for two dinners, two appetizers, an adult beverage, and worth every nickle. Actually, I think the place is under priced, but don't tell them. Will I return? You bet. The bottomless champagne brunch (Sundays only) is around $13! Egad! read more

We found out that Dominick the chef who used to be at Bimbo's was the owner and chef there. The minute we found out which was today we went there and had a delicious delicious dinner. He really outdid himself still a great chef such a great personality. The service was wonderful and the ambience was just great. Can't wait to go back. we also got to sample some tiramisu which we found out was, baked by his wife Mirabelle, who does all the other desserts there and it was the best tiramisu I've ever had. read more

Had dinner there a couple weeks ago on a Saturday. Came in later part of the evening. The owner of Dominic came to our table to explain that he was running low on prime rib. We ordered his last two pieces and then had broiled rib steak. Our food was excellent, cooked to perfection. Abbey our server was excellent. We had Old Fashion's, spot on! We love the supper club vibe and this place has it! Dominic opened just before Covid and survived. That is a testament to itself. Great food, great service, great place! We will be back. The 2022 Thanksgiving Buffet was outstanding. All the foods that you hope would be on a Holiday buffet was ( Turkey, Ham, Roast Beef, Pasta, Shrimp etc). Tied in with their usual Sunday Brunch Buffet offering, three trips to fill your plate weren't enough! Matching the food was the service. Having five hourly Holiday seatings is no minor task to accomplish but they did with flying colors! We had reservations for the 4th seating as was seated promptly. The staff was very friendly and most accommodating, anticipating any needs. Plates cleared promptly and drinks replenished with out asking. Equally important was that we never felt rushed. Went for the fish fry recently and we're disappointed. Expensive at $19.95, for three small pieces of deep fried cod. Sure there was an offer of more, but the over fried fish was not worth the effort. My suggestion is to find another place to enjoy a Friday night fish fry. read more

If you're looking for THE BEST prime rib, this is the place. The meal starts off with spread cheese and a relish tray, then delicious french onion soup and a salad with big chunks of blue cheese. At the beginning it was good, but then it took me more than 20 minutes to find someone to get an Iced Tea refill -- I had to ask the bus boy.
