We only discovered Big Mike's after trying the smashburgers at Spread Please in their El Segundo location. Since we were craving Philly cheesesteaks, we were excited to find out they also have a Redondo Beach location. I ordered the regular 6" Philly cheesesteak and customized it with grilled onions, sweet peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. My husband decided to go for the large 12" Hawaiian Philly, which comes with teriyaki sauce, cheese, and pineapple, and he added mushrooms for an extra $0.75. I requested both sandwiches toasted, and they were still delicious even after the 10-minute drive home. The employee who took our order was especially kind and friendly. I really appreciated that he brought the food outside to me while I was waiting instead of making me come back in when it was ready. After reading other reviews, it sounds like I definitely need to try the garlic parmesan fries with my next sandwich order. read more

I did try calling ahead a couple times but there was no answer. When I arrived there was one person eating in the restaurant but no other guest. This is a great spot for philly cheesesteaks. Owners are from Philly and have tons of Philly gear on display at both locations. I like that they have all the variety of cheesesteaks you would expect to find in Philly (traditional, chicken, even pizza steak!) The sandwiches themselves were great and I like how garlicky the garlic fried can be but it's hard to keep well if it's done via delivery. Best to have it piping hot and fresh! The staff is nice and the orders came realtively quick. The prices are very reasonable. I'd want to come back to try the Italian sandwiches and other items they have! Reviewing our cheesesteak lunch today at Big Mikes. Service was quick and easy. We had their cheesesteaks with grilled onions, pickles, sweet pepper, which I couldn't find d any in my sandwich. Plenty of meat on my cheesesteak. I believe it needed to be seasoned a bit with maybe a touch of salt. Roll was disappointing. Too soft to hold the hot meat and cheese, would be better with a cold sub. Not the way I remember it from our last visit. Onion rings were tasty and not greasy. Called an order in over the phone and estimated time order would be ready was 25 minutes. So git there about 5 minutes before and of course it wasn't ready. But that's understandable. A lot of cheesy, cheesy good food :) We almost finished it too leaving just pieces of roll & fry scraps LOL For me the Garlic Cheese Fries were the star of the show, fresh w/ lots of garlic & cheese wiz... YUM!!! Now I prefer cheese wiz for a real Philly Cheesesteak but I ordered wrong (my fault the menu is pretty clear) and got provolone. It was still delicious but next time I will definitely order mine with cheese wiz :) The shop was clean and the staff very friendly. There is plenty of seating inside and even a few tables outside. We love coming in to pick up Philly cheese steaks to go Many of the complaints on Yelp center around the order being made wrong. We haven't encountered this when walking in and placing an order to go. Generally the food takes 5 no more than 10 mins even if there are a few orders ahead of mine As far as food quality is concerned, everything I've had tastes fresh. I have noticed that the garlic fries don't travel home well.. We live less than 8 mins away and they are always soggy by the time we get home, so for best results on fries I'd recommend dining in. For the sandwich, if you order with provolone and like a normal amount of cheese, do yourself a favor and ask for extra cheese on your philly Don't forget to grab a stamp card! What did I try here? A simple Philly Cheesesteak + coke. How did it taste? Ok. It was adequate, and maybe if you've never had a REAL Philly Cheesesteak, it might even be called decent. Full disclosure: I grew up in Philadelphia, so my standards are probably much higher than others in greater-Los-Angeles (I'm grading on a curve). Why wasn't it a REAL Philly Cheesesteak? Big Mike's is clearly not using the same kind of cheese*, nor are they using Amoroso rolls. I can't tell about the meat, because the in-authenticity of the cheese and the roll dominated my one-and-only experience here. Also, the cheese was kind of poured ON TOP of the meat, not mixed-in/blended. Nor did the heat from the meat cause the cheese to melt into it (another bad sign). Service? The sandwich arrived quickly, but my clerk was clearly on autopilot (she wasn't rude, but she wasn't the least bit friendly, either "We want you here, and happy!"). Conclusion? Sorry, Big Mike; no return visits from me (at least not for Cheesesteak sandwiches). REAL Philly Cheesesteaks can be found in LA from (a) a brick-and-mortar store on Pico Blvd (proprieters used to run a Philly Cheesesteak food truck that roamed the Santa Monica/Venice area), and (b) a brick-and-mortar store in Koreatown across the street from the site of what used to be the Ambassador hotel (RFK assassination). I won't explicitly name these places so that nobody can accuse me of being a stealth marketeer. I continue to hope for something like a REAL Philly Cheesesteak (truck or brick-and-mortar) in the South Bay, but it remains elusive as of this writing. * When I ordered, the clerk did NOT ask me what kind of cheese I wanted. We came for lunch and ordered a 6 inch salami sandwich, two 12 inch sandwiches, an Atlantic city and an Italian (which had meat on top that unrolled when I opened my sandwich) , and two bags of chips. The sandwiches were good but seemed on the expensive side to be honest. Service was ok. There are some seats, but we took our order to go and ate at a park. I have to advise people to avoid this shop. I've eaten here many times, but the last few have been disappointing. For the second visit in a row, I watched an employee go from prepping food to handling cash to cleaning tables to prepping food, all without washing hands or wearing gloves. By far the best Philly Cheese Steak outside of Philly/NYC I have had. It was recommended to me by an east coast friend and it didn't disappoint. He was so right!! It's so savory and cheesy. Also the pastrami and Italian remind me of being home in NYC. Sooo good!! The staff is also super helpful with what to try if your new there and also extremely happy/friendly. I work near Big Mike's so I figured I go eat there for lunch. There was one person in line before me. Then it was my turn and I ordered. I turned to find a table and noticed all the tables were dirty and the floor was filthy. I figured maybe the cashier guy was busy so I cleaned my table were I sat. No one else came in for the next 10 to 15 minutes and the cashier guy was just mopping behind his register area in the same spot over and over. He finally came to the front and mopped the front by the fountain machine. It looked like he did even care to be at work today. Never smiled and I could hardly hear him when I ordered. Hey we all have probable's, but if this was my establishment I want employees doing the basic things like good customer service with a smile and to keep the place clean. even after mopping there was a lot of water on the floor by the fountain machines with no signs up. Huge foul! He never once cleaned the eating area. The food is GREAT no doubt about it! But please I recommend keeping the establishment clean. It was disgusting! read more

Big Mikes serves a variety of sandwiches but the Philly Steak sandwich is the way to go. You order at the counter and they bring it to you. I prefer the 12 inch Philly with everything in a meal mode which includes a mountain of fries and a drink. The 12 inch is suitable for two. The restaurant has like 4 tables inside and a few outside. They do a lot of take out orders as well. The walls have photos and artwork for Philly teams and a framed LA Kings Jersey, go Kings. It is cozy and clean. The Philly sandwiches are really delicious.
