Forget the copycats... THIS is the original spot, and now officially my favorite restaurant. My Wife and I used to frequent the Torrance location until I found out this is the original and not affiliated with the other one. After eating here, the difference was obvious. The food is amazing, authentic, and made with quality ingredients. The employees are always friendly, welcoming and helpful. It's been around for a long time, apparently. There are so many Italian items, it's like a little store. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and it was just "fair". My friend ordered the fettuccini alfredo which she said was also "fair". The seating is only outside. The way you order is odd. You order your food in the back, then when it's ready you take it to the front to pay. The salads are off to the side and there are people all over. I grew up eating the original torpedo back in the 80's and use them as a benchmark for a great sub. To date, I haven't found one that stacks up to the torpedo. Drove 45 miles to pick up a torpedo and it was so good. Not many places can keep the quality and taste this consistent. Old school location with street parking and a free parking lot right across the street. Inside you will find dry goods from Italy and the counter towards the back. They have premade torpedoes ready for pickup so no need to wait. Two sizes - get the large one, you'll thank me later! These are premade without condiments but somehow the "dry" sandwiches are so satisfying. Another option to consider if you like hot sandwiches is the meatball sub. Yumm! read more

This local spot is one of my favorites for Italian food in the South Bay! Both times I've been it's been packed so i definitely recommend placing a phone order ahead of time. The parking can be tricky but I've always been able to find a spot. Inside there's a lot going on, they have a small market with Italian products and wines, a deli, prepackaged food fridges, and the actual food counter. The only food item that has disappointed me here is the chinese chicken salad. I found it bland and mostly full of lettuce with little dressing. The chicken parm with red bell peppers, the fettuccine, and the torpedo are all very delicious and must tries. The torpedo may not look very appetizing but it's a staple for a reason! I'm also a fan of the margherita pizza it's covered in tomato's and it gives it so much flavor. The cannolis are a pretty classic dessert too. read more

The good: I tried a cannoli, ready to go torpedo sandwich, Napoleon cake, M&M cookie, chocolate cupcake, two sodas and a cream horn. They have covered outdoor seating. I also got small pasta noodles that were under $3 each. The prices here were fair. There was plenty of street parking that was free. The service was prompt. The cannoli tasted fresh and had a good texture on the outside without being soggy nor too hard. They had ready to grab smaller desserts as well in the open fridge section. They had gelato and freshly made bread. This was a very enjoyable experience. None of the desserts tasted old nor did it have that old oil flavor. I'd definitely come here again. The bad: I would've liked more kick (more acid, onion, a little more flavor) in the torpedo sandwich but overall it was enjoyable and easy to eat. Incredible selection of Italian foods. I ordered the Giulio sandwich which came with mortadella, salami cotto, Italian salami, capicola, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, peperoncini and dressing. Love Giuliano's. Used to work nearby and ate lunch here a lot. Now I drive 30 minutes to pick up family meals for parties and special occasions, and also to load up on bread. BTW, the original on Gardena Blvd is way nicer than the satellite operation on Torrence Blvd. Both make great sandwiches, but the selection of delicacies in Gardena is what keeps me coming back. Shrinkflation is hitting Giuliano's! I've been coming here for over 20 years and have been very happy with their lunch sandwiches... until recently. I bought 6 large torpedos this last Saturday and noticed they felt lighter than before (I buy anywhere from 4 to 6 every week). When I unwrapped them I noticed that the amount of meats was much, much less than before. I had to cut them in half, then use the meats from one half to build up the other half. I am hoping that this was a one-time mistake on the part of the person who made them. I will go back next Saturday as usual and buy a couple just to make sure. I NEVER thought, in the over 30+ years that I've been patronizing this Guliano's, that I would give a less than great review. I didn't want to do it by my heart is outraged. I ordered my sandwich, salad and peppers from some very nice young ladies who were very helpful. Then i got in line for the guy to ring up my order. As he was, there was a very senior black couple at the next register. I saw them earlier when the woman was picking a salad and the man was standing next to me in line to order food. I could tell by the way they were moving so slow that they were up in age. Both were soft spoken. While I was paying for my food I heard the clerk at the next register say to the older man, "I got you, just chill!!!" I had to look at him because his tone was very condescending and rude. Then he had the audacity to peer over to another guy working behind the counter as if he was looking for an approval to which the second guy gave him an 'ataboy' nod. I'm angry with myself for not demanding my money back and telling them both what I thought but I believe this review will make black people watch how they are being served. I'm sad to say that this is my very last time crossing the threshold of this establishment. If Guliano's doesn't want to serve black people then know that you have one less black person (me) to worry about!!!
