My highly skilled colleague and home renovator mentioned this place, saying it's very close to the Home Depot on Bannister Road. I'd apparently passed by it repeatedly without even noticing it's there. Not flashy, but anyway, fancy furnishings aren't edible. Great food is! Especially when it's affordable. So yesterday, we went there together and he was right: this is an excellent bakery-cafe. We both had a roast beef sandwich (mine also had some turkey) on the fluffy soft house sandwich roll. Delicious, generous and made perfectly to order with friendly customer service. I'm sure to return here often! It's a cozy space with a few tables, and thankfully we got here before noon, because I'm betting this place fills up around lunchtime. The food and service (and prices) are that good. Oh my GOD I am so glad we stopped by Big Momma's during our visit to KC. There were no other customers at the time of our visit so we received full attention of the employee behind the counter. We were interested in their cinnamon rolls, obviously, which are offered in a few different sizes: mini momma, little momma, and big momma. I cannot for the life of me think of a scenario that would warrant the purchase of any size other than the biggest mother fucking roll they make. Needless to say, we went with a big momma. It was delicately placed in a tin container large enough to house this whale of a cinnamon roll. An icing drizzle is provided to the degree of your specific taste. We had a drive to southwestern MO after our purchase so we weren't able to break into this bad boy until many hours and refrigeration later. I tore off the plastic lid and carefully lifted this mammoth of a cinnamon roll out of its container. The big momma has the approximate diameter of a dinner plate and is comparable to the size of my head. Despite being refrigerated for a period of time, it still maintained fluffiness. The dough part was soft and light and flanked by the PERFECT amount of cinnamon sugar. It was an absolute DREAM. We took down the entire thing in record time. If you have an opportunity to visit, you must. Don't bother fucking around, just get the big momma. read more

Hey There, Another great spot that I've been ROLLIN' with for a long time is being revealed to some and a reminder for others to revisit. I've gone to Big Momma's since it's Crown Center Days. Omg! It was delectable Then and it still is, Now. How refreshing to pop in and have my palate do the 'Happy Dance' once again. They are soft and such a good chewy texture. The worker even asked if I wanted more frosting which who says to no to that?! They sell other baked goods like lemon bars, sweet potato bars, German chocolate cake, carrot cake, turtle brownies, cookies, dinner rolls to name a few. And they even make deli sandwiches too! They have an area with all the sandwich items. I don't know how much each item was but the total was cheap compared to the places I go to in Prairie Village. So I got a cinnamon roll, turtle brownie, bread pudding, and a dinner roll and it was $11 total. Like what?!?! Cause my favorite place in Prairie Village to get ONE CAKE SLICE is like $7-8 just for comparison. They also have catering options if anyone is needing lunch ideas. On my way to work one morning I really wanted breakfast, but really didn't want fastfood. I had heard from some coworkers about how great the lunch was at Big Momma's KC so I thought their breakfast must be good as well. Upon arriving and opening the door the smell of fresh baked bread and goodies hits. Immediately my mouth starts to watering and my eyes look for the source. I find the case with all the sticky pecan buns, different sized cinnamon rolls (some the size of a child head!), and other goodies. Naturally I want to try it all, but I knew that would be too much food so I had to make a decision. I look up to the menu and see they have breakfast sandwiches, so I decide to have that. I place my order with a very nice gentleman who goes to the back to make my sandwich. I decided on sausage egg and cheese sandwich. I pay for my food and head to work. I've never walked so fast to my desk before...I could not wait to try this delicious smelling sandwich (thankfully the office is two minutes down the road). The sandwich is large and very filling (half way through I started to get really full). The star of this sandwich is the bun. It's so soft and airy, almost like it's not there. I know the buns there though because it tastes so delicious! It's so delicious that I forget to take a picture...guess I have to go back . I highly suggest stopping by and grabbing some breakfast.
