First time trying this place and I was curious based on all the hype. If you like your BBQ drowned in sauce then you will like it. I don't, so can't say I'll be going back. Had their pork belly burnt ends, it was grease and sauce, combined with cubes of fat and cubes of rock hard cubes of pork. Had their baked beans as a side, again drowned in a sauce that was no good. I tried this place because of all the hype. Unfortunately I was disappointed. For the amount you pay the portion size is very underwhelming. And I had asked for 2 separate orders and it was thrown into one. The brisket was very good, along with their mustard sauce. The coleslaw had too many seeds and there wasn't much flavor. The cornbread wasn't awful. Twice fried potato portions also very small. Almost 50.00 in food for two people and we weren't even beginning to feel full. Glad I got to try it. Big Rigs is the best food restaurant in Monroeville hands down. Monroeville has not had a small family business like this and they have been nothing but a hit since they opened around the community. Went there because another "best of Pittsburgh" kind of place was closed. (I have since been to that other place--it is not, but that's another matter.) Big Rig's is the best BBQ I have eaten outside of Kansas City and Savannah. Everything we had was excellent. The ribs were not so sloppy that they slid off the bone but it took just the lightest of bites to get the meat off, and the rub gave them a deep flavor that made sauce optional. The sauce was very good, but the ribs didn't need it. Great smoky, savory, sweet levels of flavor. Another surprise star of the meal was the brisket grilled cheese sandwich--great crisp on the grilled bread, plenty of cheese, and then the flavor of the brisket. Not fatty but succulent, deeply savory. My wife, who kept saying she was full, kept nibbling at it anyway because she couldn't stop. And the sides are not throwaway either. The brisket Mac and cheese was so good we got a large order to go. (Brisket is the name of the game here.) The pulled pork was excellent as well, with a slaw that was very well balanced and not just a savage hit of vinegar (as is too often the case). AND they have a kids menu. So many BBQ places don't, and it is much appreciated. But the kid also tried the BBQ items and next time will be ordering from the main menu. Street corn was great, the cornbread was really good, soft almost like a spoon bread. We will be coming back. Often. I have noticed other reviews mention the prices, and yes, they are a little high (though no more than what I am seeing at a lot of BBQ joints around here)--but the portions are very good and the quality is just unbeatable. read more

Last day in town, stumbled upon this place, nothing special on the outside, low key location but out of curiosity we stepped inside to check the menu & we were blown away by the authentic setup. Turned out to be the most delicious bbq main stays that we've ever eaten stretching from NY to LA. The food was phenomenal, ribs seasoned & cooked to perfection, as well as the tender & delicious brisket, the best we've EVER eaten, sides exceptional nothing but good things to say. Including generous portions & decent prices. Cheerily welcomed by AJ who politely answered questions & assisted us. Accolades to the pit masters/chefs Eric & Ryan for the tender seasoned ribs, flavorful brisket & sides one better than the next. My only regret is not being able to go back the following day (closed on Mondays) to take out food to bring back home (NJ). Owner is in the midst of expanding & I only hope that one day they'll setup in my neck of the woods. Mouth is watering revisiting our meal! read more

Decent BBQ is hard to find in the Pittsburgh area, so imagine my delight when I found out this place opened practically right in my backyard! I've stopped by 4 times since it opened, and the food is delicious. The baby back ribs are well done, the pulled pork is so moist it almost doesn't need sauce, and the cornbread is so buttery and cheesy, I can't get enough of it. I usually don't like spicy but I saw someone get the Nashville chicken sandwich and it looked so good I got one. It had quite a kick but I wasn't uncomfortable. In fact I can't wait to have another one! Mac n cheese is a little too "loose" for my liking, I prefer an oven baked mac n cheese,but their mac n cheese is so flavorful, I learned not to mind the "looseness" of it. Reason for the 4 stars, is 1) Location. This isn't Big Rig's fault obv, it's just the parking lot is kinda annoying to get in and out of. 2) There's some pricing discrepancies. Now hopefully they have since worked this out, but the menu on the wall said one price but my receipt said different. In my case it was a dollar more than what the wall menu said but I just hope they worked that kink out. read more

This was tasty ~ I had the 1/4lb Brisket & 1/4lb Original Kielbasa both were cut to order and were still moist. Good bark on the Brisket. The House Sauce was good, the Carolina sauce was not as mustardy as I expected. The potato salad and corn bread were both fantastic. With tip $30 ~ Good Value. Finally got in!!! Had only heard great things about Big Rigs BBQ, but both times I tried to get in they were sold out. Now I know why. Generally BBQ is a hit or miss for me. Saying this is the former is an understatement. My cousin and I came from a fun show at the Pittsburgh Public - see that review next. Called ahead to make sure Big Rigs wasn't sold out. They weren't. We both picked the brisket grilled cheese, but with different sides, slaw and mac and cheese. The sandwiches were the stuff of dreams. Enough brisket with cheese and a decadent tomato jam. Big enough to share, but we happily brought back leftovers. Mac and cheese simple but homemade. Enjoyed the well seasoned vinegar-based coleslaw. We also tried the cornbread...they should call it crack cornbread. Heaven. Already planning next visit and deciding what to try. Amazing! We followed chef Eric and Josh from Cenacolo, which we adore. Just walked in to order take out and no staff member even acknowledged that I was standing there. So I waited until they appeared to turn towards me but still didn't say anything. So a white man walks in behind and I wait 10 more seconds and decide to walk out. As soon as I turned my back they white male customer walk two steps to the counter where I was standing and they asked immediately could they help him. I don't know what else to call it but straight racists. I've spent money here in the past. I'll never go there again. Can't wait until Mission BBQ puts them out of business. read more

This place smells like heaven as soon as you walk through the door. I watched them carving meat as we waited to order and you can tell every piece is juicy and full of flavor. (Not meat related but their Mac n cheese is to die for!) Not only is the food good but you can tell they care about their customers. We used Big Rig's BBQ to cater a party for about 50 people this past weekend, and we could not have been happier with the service and food. They went above and beyond to set up a special arrangement to have the food delivered to us about half an hour away from the restaurant. They not only delivered the food, but set up the chaffing dishes and sterno cans and took away the extra packaging we didn't need. Josh - the manager - was communicative through the whole process and made sure that everything arrived exactly as we discussed. Our guests were really impressed with the taste of the food as well. I was so wowed by this place. I got the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich and it's better than Chick Fil A, Popeyes, you name it. Their slaw is vinegar-based and very tasty too. Big Rig's guys and girls did it again!!! We just enjoyed a double order (6 per order and Wednesday's only) of their delicious smoked wings for the Steeler game vs the Dirty Birds, thankfully the wings were much better than the game. We enjoyed the 2nd half again today for lunch and they held over well. These are whole wings smoked beautifully with a great sweet-heat dry rub and bark on them. Super tender and juicy and absolutely delicious. I love and hate that this place is literally through our backyard but self control is important to have. For anyone looking for a different wing experience other than the same old fried and sauced ones check out Big Rig's (Wedneday's Only) for some amazing smoked wings. P.S. Some of the absolutely best BBQ and brisket you will ever have outside of Texas as well. Sides....The bomb...Nanner Pudding....Oh My!! Monroeville. You hear those words and you think, "Do we really have to go out there?" As the Golden Mile has become the aluminum mile, filled with cheap and boring fast food and chain restaurants, our two big boys over at Big Rig's provide a necessary detour. The menu is filled with typical Southern delights, and while it is pricey indeed, you receive a huge return in investment from the portions you get. I ordered the burnt ends, cornbread and brisket for takeout. The food was hot and ready when I arrived. The pick-up experience was ok. The cornbread was tasty. It was sweet, which I tend to find at BBQ places. A little on the dry side, but still good. The brisket was also good and tender. I didn't use sauce, but the brisket tasted good on its own. The burnt ends are where I had my issue. They are supposed to be cooked hard (burnt) rendering the fat down completely. These were very fatty and just killed with BBQ. It was not pleasant. The BBQ sauce wasn't good either. I might go back for brisket. read more
