Really enjoyed my dinner with my husband at Big Sky. This place delivers high quality at reasonable price point. My husband and I shared several dishes -- mussels, pot roast, soup sampler, beet salad. All were delicious. I loved getting to try three soups with one dish, for me the tomato soup was the best but all three were good. Mussels came in a delicious sauce with bread. Beet salad was the weakest in my opinion. Pot roast was flavorful and tender. Service was a little slow but overall good.

I've been pretty lucky lately, and have been hitting 5 star places, one after another. Big Sky Cafe was one of them. Came here with a group of 8 women before a play at The Rep. Our server asked if we were seeing a play, and when we said yes, she kept us on track, so we weren't late. The food was FABULOUS and the cocktail I got, with the waitress's suggestion, was extremely good. We were seated at a large round table which made conversation easy and enjoyable. It was a lovely meal in a lovely place.

What a pleasant surprise! This spot far exceeded expectations. We decided to go heavy on the appetizers and I'm so glad we did, every single dish was delicious. We came in without big expectations, and it ended up being one of those meals you can't stop talking about on the way home. We'll definitely be back, next time for round two of the appetizer dinner.

Our first time at restaurant. The restaurant is tucked away towards the end of the street. Arrived around 7:45pm on a rainy Thursday evening. Restaurant wasn't crowded so they seated everyone in one section. The restaurant has an eclectic 90's vibe which was cool. We started with soup and we shared the Ozark Forest Mushroom and Asparagus Soup and the Chilled Roast Beet with Black Bean Soups. I enjoyed the flavors of the Ozark soup. It had lemon and arugula. The soup was brothy with a lot of depth. The beet soup surprised me on how great it tasted. The soup was creamy and it had goat cheese crème on top which added to the richness of the soup. Then we shared the Big Sky Cheddar Burger cook medium. The burger came with a brioche bun which was slightly toasted. The burger meat was tender and flavorful. Jim was our server and he did an excellent job and we appreciated his guidance with ordering.

Big Sky is delicious. We've been going here for years, and our family knows the owners. We recently catered their Pot Roast, Cauliflower Au Gratin and a few other sides for a holiday celebration. They were delicious! Highly recommend this place!

Overall, the food was fine but the service seemed disorganized. We had a reservation to sit outside and got seated at a table in the front of the building. Wasn't until later that we realized that we had the only chairs without seat pads. Our server came by to take our order, and at the end to drop off the bill. In between, we ran it of water and I went in to ask for more. Multiple servers walked by and seemed to not notice that we needed anything. After asking at the front, I was told that our server was delayed because of a credit card issue? The food was fine. Not large portions, not anything amazing. For the cost, it was just fine. I asked my wife what she thought and she had the same response. No reason to go back, especially with the way the service was.

It was a Saturday around 11:00ish. Lots of reviews and lots with 3, 4, an 5 stars so was a little weirded out that there were only a few cars in the lot. We decided to go in anyway based on the reviews and thought maybe there was parking g elsewhere we couldn't see Entered and the place was fairly empty. The woman covering the hostess stand asked if we had a reservation. We did not. Strange as there were about 4 tables with diners. I went back later and read through some reviews and others had mentioned this, too. So, dining room was pretty empty and we were seated at a table in the middle of the room that was separated from another seated table by a pole. We were SO uncomfortable! I go to lots of places with community tables and I'm fine with that but when it's expected. This was not a community table and we were so close to the other table it was as if we were dining with them. I don't get this at all. Server was nice, she made recommendations. Food. I got the recommended Big Sky Benedict with potatoes. Potatoes were ok, kind of dry. The Benedict was perplexing. The salmon kind of melted on a biscuit and both were warm, the poached egg on top was ice cold. I was stumped but felt like the egg had to be cold on purpose. I didn't like it. The horseradish hollandaide was good but the cold eggs just put me off. Just an overall strange experience.

The most amazing thing on this menu hands down is the gruyere and spinach grilled cheese and tomato soup - ugh its amazing. Cut into 4 small triangles. Perfect for sharing and they give the perfect amount of soup for dipping! We came for happy hour just in time for it to start (which i recommend because it filled up quick!) I liked the beet pesto dip with crackers as well but honestly i'd rather just get another grilled cheese. Their special $7 happy hour menu was good - some items were listed "$7+1" on the menu which was confusing. Like just say $8 - this is happy hour and i am on my second drink i cant do math right now lol The service was awesome - I ordered a drink that was not my vibe after a few sips and when i told our waitress she brought me a new fall sangria and didnt even charge me for the previous drink! The sangria was delicious btw. Definitely check this place out they have so many amazing options on their menu and their happy hour has great options!

I am surprised I have not been here sooner! I really enjoyed brunch here and I cannot wait to return. My server was absolutely perfect - he was attentive, informative and timely - I was happy to hear about his menu suggestions and definitely took him up on it. I started my meal with a fresh cup of coffee & Chilled Thyme Roasted Beet Soup. To say this soup was nothing short of amazing would be an understatement. I absolutely loved it and - while it is not on the menu currently - I would love to come in and learn how to make it (if they let me :)) it was perfection. My main brunch item was a Cajun Shrimp Benedict on Arepas - first off, it is so hard to find arepas around town, secondly, the Cajun Shrimp sauce for the benedict was so flavorful without being overpowering. I loved the balance of the fresh tomatoes & spinach with the egg, sauce & arepas. 10/10 would return!

It is a Trojan horse for one of the best burgers in St. Louis (my wife says I'm being dramatic for calling it THE best; I say I am not NOT going back for another). We enjoyed everything we order: the pork belly burnt ends and cashew chicken wings, and a coffee & cardamom old fashioned that sounds like a personality disorder but tastes like a vibe, smoky, a touch sweet, and very drinkable year-round. The Sam Elliott burger, BBQ sauce, bacon, crunchy onions, brioche, is named for a man who has never disappointed anyone, and neither does the sandwich. And the meatloaf is NOT your grandma's brick: tender, charred at the edges, laid over silky mashed potatoes with broccolini, perhaps closer to a chop steak than a loaf in the best possible way. Vibe is farm-chic: old church pews, repurposed interior doors, a proper bar up front, plus a patio and rooftop for when the weather cooperates. Fun fact -- it's named after the blue duck Billy Madison paints in elementary school, which is a fantastic piece of trivia and tells you absolutely nothing accurate about the actual restaurant. 4.7 Stars. Picking Nits: the counter-order setup is efficient, but it sets expectations in the wrong direction for the first 90 seconds, you brace for fast-casual and instead get something considerably more ambitious. Food comes out fast once you've ordered, which is great if you're hungry and slightly jarring if you wanted a slow, lingering dinner. And the Billy Madison naming is charming trivia but entirely misleading as a vibe preview, no complaints about the actual restaurant, just the branding expectations it sets. If The Blue Duck were a character: Ron Swanson. Hear me out. If Ron ate here, he'd be suspicious of the entire experience until his first bite of protein -- the counter ordering, the repurposed doors, a burger named after a fellow mustachioed American, all of it registering as potentially too clever. Then the Sam Elliott hits his plate, he takes one bite, and the skepticism dissolves into the quiet respect of a man who has found his people. Looks rustic. Has strong feelings about meat. Secretly sophisticated -- plays saxophone in a jazz club under a fake name, builds his own furniture, would 100% approve of the farm-chic decor once the protein has spoken. Presents as simple. Isn't.

We happened to be seated next to a table from someone I knew, so we didn't have to pretend not to stare at the food they ordered, lol. We just talked about all that we ordered. Their Piccadilly fish looked amazing as did the rib special. I ordered the chicken pot pie, I had been thinking about it, and craving carbs to boot and it didn't disappoint. Karen informed me that it had lima beans and corn, so I wasn't shocked by that. Came in a bowl draped with puff pastry. Pastry was flaky and lightly browned, the base was creamy with lots of chicken chunks, carrots, corn, and lima beans. I haven't had lima beans before and I liked them. I had ordered the soup of the day, Tuscan white bean that sounded great, but I thought it was just ok. Husband ordered the fried chicken with slaw and mashed potatoes. The chicken was HOT! Not only were we not granted an exception on the checks as consolation for not being able to order french fries, there was no indication that this had even occurred to our server. This is precisely the level of temerity we need to inculcate in young women in our society, and I'd encourage her to apply for a job at the women's-only sports bar a few doors down if and when it ever opens. It'd be tragic if she wasn't there if and when I return, but I'd appreciate the fact that she has a greater mission. Hopefully, the deep fryer is working. It being out of commission naturally limited the number of things on the menu we could order. We were only told that we couldn't order anything that required a deep fryer, not given a modified menu or anything. I started going through each item and imagining how it might be prepared, but I couldn't muster the psychological bandwidth to continue. Hit my Cash App if you appreciate the amount of unpaid emotional labor I was compelled to contribute. It occurred to me that I might just get a burger and a side salad, but then I saw that they carry a club sandwich. I love a good club sandwich, and I figured it might make for a light, refreshing alternative, given the weather. There's an option to get a cup of soup for $1.50 extra as a side with your sandwich (no, they didn't offer to eat the charge), and I figured that might go well with my sandwich. I was kicking myself when they brought out someone else's order with the side salad. It looked really good. The Frisco Burger, or whatever they're calling it, looked good too. Meanwhile, the BBQ Beef & Cheddar Soup--the soup du jour (that's French), according to Flo--looked gross, like something your dog might cough up. But damn it was good! It was more beef than anything else. A large bowl of it might actually be too much food. (I'd still eat it, natch.) The overall flavor profile was along the lines of a good french onion soup. It was a reminder that I need to be ordering soup in restaurants more often. I wish the club sandwich was cut into little triangles and fanned out on the plate in some elaborate configuration, like at a place where rich old ladies have lunch, but I guess that wouldn't have been in keeping with the theme. Instead, it was served on the world's thickest Texas toast, with the world's dullest steak knife protruding from its center. This sounds like hyperbole, but I may have honestly been served the equivalent of half a loaf of bread. It was much more bread than I required, but at least it was fresh and delicious, as were all the other ingredients. Turkey used for sandwiches is almost never remarkable, but this was surprisingly great, as good as anything you'd get served as an entree unto itself. Nothing about this place suggests that it would have such good food, but it just goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover. The decor, the overall vibe and the lack of hospitality might not be for everyone, but don't let that deter you.

I've been meaning to eat southwestern-themed breakfast food since I saw the legendary "chorizo and…read moreeggs" scene from the movie Midnight Run. The opportunity finally presented itself when a member of my old man's bicycle group suggested this place for a Friday afternoon lunch. I was more than happy to step away from my responsibilities for an hour or two, and the only thing that would have made it better is if I'd been able to disappoint a group of people standing in line, like at the DMV. I'd been as far south on McCausland as a shopping center near the intersection with Manchester, for a drug test for a job, which I'll have you know I passed with flying colors. Consulting Google Maps on the way to the restaurant, I was surprised to see that it's on (er, kinda on) Southwest Avenue. Does it serve diner fare with a southwestern flair due to its address, or is that a mere matter of coincidence? According to a guy I know, who knows several people who work there (don't be jealous), it's the latter. Certainly, you wouldn't put a restaurant here for the ambience. This looks like the kind of place where you'd ditch a stolen car after using the backseat for a fried chicken dinner that somehow involved ketchup (why?) and an assignation with a lady of the evening. If you live nearby, I guess it's not off the beaten path, but who lives here? The menu is a veritable plethora of riches. You could have breakfast food, or you could have lunch food, even if you couldn't bring yourself to roll out of bed until after 10:30 AM. It's downright anxiety inducing! I toyed with the idea of a torta or a burger, and I also saw that they had milkshakes. I ended up going with breakfast food, because I love breakfast food and I don't get it as often. Specifically, I went with something called the Rocket to Bacon Land. It's a bacon and goat cheese omelet with arugula and caramelized onions, served with home fries and your choice of bread. I could have gone with various kinds of toast or a sopapilla. I went with a biscuit. It was amazing! It looked like something your mom would make with Bisquick when she's feeling especially lazy, but it tasted great. It may have been better than the biscuits at Popeyes--which is pretty much the highest compliment you can pay a food item. The omelet was also pretty good. I appreciated the generous helping of eggs, which must have run them, thanks to a certain individual who shall not be named. It was definitely an egg-forward preparation. The arugula didn't seem to add much, as I suspected, and I don't know that the bacon or onions were present in sufficient quantities as to be truly dominant. The goat cheese was definitely a choice. It was warm and soft (ahem), but not melty the way you'd expect cheese in an omelet to be. I liked it, but I don't know if I liked it as much as a regular ol' Denver omelet. I'm a close-minded individual. I buy vanilla ice cream for the taste. Would I feel the same way, to varying degrees, about everything else on the menu? There's only one way to find out.

Ordered the wings "trashed" it is not on the menu - you need to ask for this. The tangiest, crispiest wings with some heat and parmesan sprinkled on top. Absolutely delicious. We also ordered the burger med well and that was also juicy and full of flavor. Tasted like a homemade burger on the grill. Fries were also battered to perfection. Must try spot!!

We took the first table available, which happened to be in the middle of the entry way. It was a rather odd placement, but it beat having to wait! Our server was prompt and immediately gave us water and menus. Since it was late, I opted for something light and chose the blackened white fish that came with rice pilaf and veggies. Score for being healthy and fitting my macros without having to substitute. My boyfriend got the hot wings and a gyro salad, while his friend got the chicken kebabs and a salad. Their food came first while mine came later. I sampled a piece of the gyro meat and it was quite tasty but had a taco flavor, which I found odd considering we were at a Greek restaurant! My dish was good. It wasn't that blackened but it was still seasoned well and had great flavor. The vegetables were a bit basic and could have used more seasoning. Aside from that, the dish was a hit and our service was great. I'll for sure be back.

I recently stopped by after an appointment in STL. It was right at lunch time and it was also, opening day for the Cardinals. So when I entered, the line to order was already long. To my surprise, the one lady taking orders, moved that line quickly. So I give her major kudos. When it was turn to order, I was ready. I went with a Double and swapped out the American Cheese for Pepper Jack. For my side, I tried their Salt&Pepper Onion Rings. After ordering, I took my number stick and took a seat at the bar. Once seated, the bartender welcomed me and I ordered a draft beer. I barely had completed my Wordle and my burger basket was being slid in front of me. Before taking my first bite, I admired the crisp edges and actually ran my finger around them. My first bite was heaven. It proved to me that all a good smash burger needs is; ketchup, mustard, onion and pickles. The Onion Rings were made in house and the simple seasoning of Salt & Pepper made them a winner. While dining at the bar, I learned a new trick. If you're going to be sitting at the bar to enjoy your smash burger, you can order it from the bartender. That's right, no standing in line to order, you can go straight to the bar. Great staff. They all hustle and provide friendly and professional service.

I wish there was more meat because the patties are smaller but it was so good! We ordered a side of fries and cheese sauce and they were good too. I wanted to try the garlic aoli but thought the burger was enough garlic (I was wrong!! I should have gotten it!) We got the Carmel crunch shake and it was so good too! The restaurant has plenty of room and they have games to play which is fun! The tables are large so plenty of room for eating and games. We enjoyed the tap selection too. This restaurant has it all! We will definitely be back.
