Vangles has a big following. I could tell there were many regulars eating dinner there. But IMO the food is good not great. Nothing noteworthy. We had arancini and lasagna. The people were all nice and they have a great big bar. Perhaps we will give it another try although for the price there are many more places we need to try. read more

This place was on my list to try for a while and after finally going I can say I really like it and would like to go back to try more menu items. The calamari was very good and I tried a piece of the burger and I can both see why people think it's good but also why some may not care for it because it was a bit heavy on the truffle flavor for me but well seasoned. The chicken parm didn't have red sauce but was good. The burger arrived cold, the fries were decent. The filet steak frites is so so salty! The fries that came with that were thick cut fries and mushy, so ask for those well done. The French dip was good, the fries with those were also thick and needed to be cooked more. Went here last minute for a nice dinner for my wife's birthday. Got a reservation for 5:30pm and arrived. Brussel Sprout app was delicious and the burger was great. I wish they would have served regular fries instead of "truffle" fries as they had too much truffle oil and I would have enjoyed them more without. They also offered my wife a dessert for her birthday and that was a nice touch as well. It would be nice if they had a wine option that was cheaper than $14 a glass, but the wine was decent. Vangel's has made a name for itself in Warson Woods. My favorite go to is the meatloaf! I think they only have it on the weekends but man oh man is it good. The serving is almost the size of a brick, but the flavor is out of sight. The mashed potatoes are fantastic and the vegetables served with it are also awesome. I don't have any complaint other than sometimes we'll head up on a whim and not be able to get a table! When you visit Vangel's, it is truly a great experience. We have dined twice in the past few weeks and each time was filled with great food, great drinks, and great service. The owner stopped by for a quick hello each time checking in. I love his take on so many Gitto family favorites, that Louie makes his own. It's easy to feel at home at this restaurant, from the friendly and helpful staff, to the ambiance, and cozy booths. Started with drinks - two espresso martinis (best one in all of STL!), an old fashioned, and dirty martinis. Throughout dinner, we also enjoyed Chianti, a Manhattan, and the coffee old fashioned which was out of this world. Love that the drinks are not just made, they're celebrated, as is each food dish! Forgot to take pics of appetizers but we enjoyed the arancini and good bread. Delish! I love their Manhattans. A nice cocktail to start things off. They have my favorite Caesar salad in St. Louis because you can taste the dressing, but not see it. The food was delicious but there were some odd practices such as paying for bread and butter and wine on tap. We need to go back as I have been told some changes have been made. I grew up down the street from this location and I have to say that Vangels is probably my favorite! It's an elevated vibe and more of an experience, so I definitely dig the vibe. I met two friends here and we were seated in a booth. Our server was quite helpful and attentive, super appreciated. I ordered a glass of wine and it was delicious, I believe it was Sauvignon Blanc (it's been a couple weeks). They do have a house wine for both red and white which is significantly cheaper than the rest of their wine options. I had a hard time choosing because everything sounded so good. My friend had been here a couple of times and loved the burger, so we decided to split. She got the burger and I ordered the person pasta. It comes with a side of a house or Caesar salad. I went with the house which was a red onion, artichokes, parm, and a red wine vinaigrette. It was good and fresh! The burger was amazing- smash burger style with white American cheese and served with truffle fries. Definitely an immediate yes. I'm also unsure what kind of bun it was on but it had a bit of sweetness which made it sooo good. The pesto pasta was cooked good and made with fresh ingredients. I ordered the pasta special which was veal cannelloni and my lord it was so good. I wish it was on their regular menu. The cannelloni noodles were the perfect texture, and the veal filling was perfection. My brother ordered the Salmon piccata, which he orders each time he goes, so you know it's got to be good. What a great new addition to the area! This corner restaurant seems very unassuming from the front, but there is a lot to offer inside its doors! I feel like it snuck into the area with not a ton of fanfare, but it has been packed in the parking lot ever since. I have gone a couple of times: once for drinks, with girlfriends, a couple of times for happy hour, and you have some snacks as well. it is high quality bar food with a emphasis on the Italian, I feel. We have driven by this restaurant so many times over the years and finally made reservations for a little dinner date. Although it's quite dark in the bar/dining area, there are little lamps in each table that provide enough light to read the menu. We were a little early, but they were a little slower (Tuesday eve) that we could be seated right away. They have the main dining area closed. I want disappointment was they were out of amaretto and I had seen a photo on Yelp of a very yummy amaretto sour. I was looking forward to it, but our meal made up for that! Smashburger was excellent! My husband got the lasagna and it was definitely top-notch! we were requested bread and we could get free rolls or pay for bread service with olive oil and Parmesan.
